Not blocked at all. But, I only tested it for a minute or two (just to see it if works). I also used a Zenfone 2 as a hotspot on T-Mobile a few weeks ago. I used it for a few hours without any problem.

Appears to be blocked for Straight Talk (AT&T).

Hotspot is NOT blocked for me using Harbor Mobile, a T-Mobile reseller/MVNO.

On Tmobile, works fine

works fine for me...was streaming monday night football on slingbox to phone and had my other phone connected watchin live tv from att app.....damnn

Wifi tethering and T Mobile txt message about upsell to mobile hotspot plan.

I'm currently using the stock rom with root GS 2 w/2.3.6 . The only thing I did is remove most of the bloat ware and uninstall the wifi tethering manager app that blocks the use of it without a hot spot data plan. I was using my wifi hotspot and all the suddenly got a txt message about upsell to hot spot plan if not my tethering will be block. As anybody experience this. I came from a Vibrant and never got this txt message. Only once did I go over the 5gb data cap with a G2 a while back. I'm under the old unlimited data plan ( 5gb soft cap). With the Vibrant I was using a Team Whiskey rom not the stock rom. Do you think it could be the stock rom or just tmobile being more smart about detecting this now.

I've never had this problem, I also have the 5gb plan. When I have used the tether and hotspot its been on a custom rom. I don't think the rom matters though.

Been using a custom ROM from day one incl. freezing/uninstalling the bloatware [presumably] associated w/tethering and used to get the same msgs. but didn't see them for a couple weeks. Just this morning got a new upsell msg., so they may have figured out a way around.
I'm only tethering to check work e-mail and that's through VPN, so that may have something to do with it.
I tether everyday, never had this txt message.with stock rooted or custom
From a glaxay better than yours.
I got this message once or twice on my vibrant. I was using my tether a lot and for heavy tasks though.
dont use internet explorer, use firefox. i found out they can detected if you use Internet explorer
Thanks seems to be IE and T Mobile doing a better job at catching it.

I hope Tmo doesn't find a day to block it. I have no ethical qualms tethering without a plan. Tmo has no business telling me through what medium and velocity I go through my 5gb every month.

I use stock rom and I tether my phone to my galay tab and I never received any text msg from Tmobile. My phone is rooted and I have deleted tether management app. Also I use Open Garden Wifi tether app from market. From what I understand, it enables the build in tether but without sending a msg to Tmobile.
All you smart people, please correct me if I am wrong.
I have been using Open Garden WIFI Tether for almost a week without any problems. I just leave it open while driving. My son access it with his IPod Touch and my daughter with rooted NOOK Tablet. So far so good.
Tmo rep here. The tethering plan has always been $15 but Tmo has never really enforced it. They have recently started preventing tethering from working on devices but it is still pretty hit or miss. On my coworker's stock Amaze she is getting blocked even on the employee data plan but on my GS2 I have never been restricted but I've always been rooted.
Starting on the 25th of this month, they will be adding free tethering to 5GB data plans so if you do a a 5 gig plan, just have Tmo update the data feature and you should have no problem tethering. If you are just on a 2GB plan, you should be fine if you are rooted.

God damn, you guys are lucky.
We all know AT&T has some epic systems setup to prevent tethering, at least for the iPhones.
Thank god I haven't been caught yet. ^^

Just called in (had to call in and ask for cancellations to even speak to anyone) the idiot I spoke to never heard of this promotion. Never had a tethering problem until yesterday when I tried it after reading this thread. I never had a problem with my N1 or Sensation. I really hate having to talk to people at Tmo. 90% of the time they are so stupid I'm ready to cancel my contract. I guess I will root and axe the wifi mgmt app and see if it works. If I have to call those idiots again I may be moving to Sprint.
From the wording of the TMO News document picture
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/01/t-mobile-launching-new-hush-hush-promotional-plans-on-january-25th/
it looks like you have to be upgrading to 5gb or 10gb to get this. The person I spoke to today said they always charge for tethering. Just like the dozen people I spoke with 6 months ago told me they always charge for wifi calling and there was no $20 5gb preferred plan. Not sure if dealing with these people is worth the money saved. smh
i juts called to ask about a thing on my bill and they offered me the upgrade to the 5gb for an extra 10 dollars per month, i dont really tether and im always either at my home wifi or my work's wifi, but im reeeally starting to think about sprint here, the problem is i travel overseas and i need a gsm phone.
if not ill switch to simple mobile, a friend has it and he has had no problems so far with it with international calling and 4g for 60 bucks i can be happy with that price, i would have to ask about the quality of the service though and get the unlock code for my phone first.

tmobile catches everyone, eventually. you need to pay for the service. it works on lte, tethering, its included in my service though.
T-mobile blocked me after 500mb used by tethering.
I purchased FoxFi and it works great, no issues so far, and i have used about 30gb this month of streaming netflix
Better paying 8$ or 7$ than paying a monthly 10$ fee

N6 T-mobile Great on Verizon

Hey guys, to all who are wondering... T-Mobile stores do have some stock of the blue Nexus 6 32gb today, didn't have an issue getting mine. I do have an account with a single line on T-Mobile that I do not use, so I used that account and paid for device in full ($650). Out of the box, it works great on Verizon. Voice quality is much better than Droid Turbo and iPhone 6+. Data speeds are strong (75mbps down & 30up) on LTE.
All I had to do to activate on Verizon was either let device self activate with Verizon SIM that takes about 5 minutes, or by going into Settings - More - Cellular and toggling Global mode.
The reason I made this thread is incase somebody who is like me and got tired of waiting for Google and Moto to have stock and wanted to purchase it via T-Mobile and use on another carrier. My friend works in a retail store and he said that even if you do not have an account with them, you can still buy you at full cost.
Does that mean its sim unlock?

if this works i think i will ask one of my boys who has t mobile to get me a phone out right.. i want the 64gb version tho..
My question is. Will Verizon whitelist the numbers from tmobile later down the line doh and block it from working on their towers. ?

Why would you do that? I have it set to LTE and it seems to keep onto an LTE signal longer compared to "Global" mode, which I would use if I was traveling overseas and inserted a local SIM into my device.
But wouldn't it lose signal if you leave lte coverage and drop to 3g? Since Verizon is CDMA.

I have a t-mobile nexus 6 with a Verizon SIM. Hotspot works on Verizon if you switch the cellular mode to LTE. It didn't work for me when in global mode which was the default out if the box.

God I love you right now lol, I am sick of the play store **** so I am probably just going to buy mine on prepaid online tommorow and have it shipped.

Who is your MVNO?

Not on one of the big 4 here in the USA with your Angler? Since the Nexus 6p is mostly not carrier subsidized, I'm thinking this is a good place to find out what MVNO's people are using to save money.... If so for you, please tell us who your with, what plan your on with them, and why your with them!! And anything else you care to share both good and bad...
In the last year I have been on the following MVNO's...
Ting - Sprint
Ting - T-Mobile
Straight talk - T-Mobile
Straight talk - Verizon
Straight talk - AT&T
Google Project Fi
Cricket - AT&T
Page Plus - Verizon
Verizon Prepaid
AT&T Gophone
And have signed up for Harbor Mobile AT&T and Red Pocket Mobile Verizon. Haven't received the Sim's yet for the last 2.. Let me know if you have questions on any of these. Will be happy to report my results
In addition to that, I was in contract with the real big red dollar sucking Verizon and also was on the real big Orange AT&T on a company business plan.

Been using Straight Talk AT&T for about 3 years now.
Reasonable price ($45), 5GB of 4G data, and a strong AT&T network keeps me with them.
I switched from Sprint post-paid on December 2013 back when I bought my Nexus 5 and decided to go with Simplemobile to pay half of what I was paying with Sprint. It all went well up until 5 months in when all of a sudden I lost data connection for the better part of a month, as usual with MVNO's the customer service is flaky so I couldn't find out what was wrong.
I then switched to t-mo $30 plan but the whole 100 minutes per month had me cutting people's conversations short or forcing them to use wifi calling apps. It became too much of a hassle so I decided to go with Straighttalk using t-mobile's service. I used them for a whole year without any issues, however I kept looking for cheaper service and that's when I discovered Cricket. For $35 a month (taxes and fees included) I get everything I need and since I don't use much data, 2.5GB a month is more than enough for me.
Once this month is up I'm going to try project Fi, since I use less than 1GB of mobile data I would probably end up paying less than with Cricket.

Yup, Customer service is the number 1 complaint with MVNO's.. If you live where Sprint and T-mobile have good coverage and you aren't a heavy data user then Fi is an excellent choice!! I currently have it on one of my phones and really like it except that where I live both Sprint and T-mobile have less than ideal coverage. Also, FI has excellent customer service!

Same here.. I've been using way more than 23gb though and have never been throttled... My data speed is faster than my wifi so I'm always using my mobile data
So can any one please confirm that with the Nexus 6P on Metro PCS... Does WiFi calling and VoLTE both work OK?
Im on MetroPCS I can confirm Wifi Calling works great although you have to delete all the apns then change the APN on GPRS to MetroPCS from fast.tmobile... To fast.metropcs... VoLte is enabled too not sure how to test it though. Also visual voicemail might work also in stock dialer but Im on PureNexus rom can anyone confirm it works? I flashed Google Fi Dialer.

Cool! Post some screen shots of your APN settings please!! One way to test to VoLTE is check and see if you have mobile data while on a phone call. What about roaming to AT&T where T-Mobile has no coverage? Any luck there? T-Mobile had finally turned up LTE in my area and I'm considering using them in my back up phone. I have FI now, but to expensive if you use lots of data and FI has no mobile data while on the phone.
Visual Voicemail works in the stock dialer also

Unlocked S10+ on Verizon

Anybody have a S10 series on Verizon answer a couple questions for me?
I would like to confirm if or not bot Mobile Hotspot and MMS message work properly.
and any other quirks and besides the benefits of no belote ware, I'm planning on getting a S20+ but the Verizon version is $300 more than unlocked and I don't need or want Wi-Fi calling.
Thanks in advance
I have the unlocked s10+ G975U1 with Verizon and Mobile Hotspot works fine and MMS works perfectly. For my hotspot i use an app called NetShare (paid) for hotspot, but as i am on the $70 unlimited LTE (prepaid) this is the deprioritized plan meaning if there is congestion Verizon will slow down your data speed.
Only drawback of using International unlocked phone on US carriers is the phone don't support all LTE bands so you might be missing one or two and the data speeds might not be as fast
LTE+ 4bars of signal - Download 43Mbps and Upload 18.6mbps I'm 2 miles away from the tower then on other times i get 70Mbps download and 30mbps upload. The power of (deprioritized plan) lol

yes there is a mobile hotspot pulldown button but there is a set amount of hotspot GB i can't remember if it's around 10GB or so with that app i can bypass it and use my unlimited data as hotspot
