Pop noise when receiving a Notification - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my moto x Pure a few days ago and i noticed when i receive a text message i get this pop noise after the notification sound stops playing. I went in the settings to change the notification sound and as im switching between them they all have a pop noise always after there done playing or sometimes before playing. If i try to change the ring tone it doesn't happen, they start and end fine with no pop noise. I remember having a similuar issue with my nexus 4 and to remedy the situation i would disable touch sounds and vibration but it doesnt seem to help with this phone.
Someone on reddit said he had the same issue. Anyone else experience this ?

Yep. Happens on my too. It's the speaker going online and standby. Happens on all phones, but in Moto X Pure is loud and noticeable. Cheap speaker? Don't know. Also on my, when playing the tone "Zeta" I get bad speaker crackling noise. Specially when volume is high.

i adjusted the bass in the audio equalizer and it seems to help with ring tones like the zeta, at least i think it did.
I dont get the pop noise when i play a youtube video or listen to google music, so its weird to me.

Thank you for posting this. Now I know I'm not the only one with the problem. I was worrying I'd have to do an RMA, but maybe this'll be fixable with a software update.

Didn't even notice the crackling until I specifically listened for it. Now I can't unhear it. Ughh! This is going to drive me nuts. Similar issue with my N6. Playing music or videos there is no problem. Just notifications and ringtones.

I don't want to highjack the thread, so we should probably move here to discuss crackling: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/bad-speaker-crackling-t3200536

Pretty sure they are. I have both though. I notice the pop very easily at night. I have a few apps set to priority, so they'll ring even when I'm sleeping. Last night I got a couple notifications and definitely heard an audible pop about a second after the tone stopped playing. It seems like it happens when power is being cut to the speaker.
My Nexus 6 had similar QC issues. The phone stopped detecting SIM cards about a month after I bought it. Moto sent me a replacement which I sold because it was NIB. Beginning to worry that Lenovo is cheaping out a bit too much on their flagships.

I don't have my phone in hand yet so...has anyone tried some third party ringtones or notifications? The reason I ask is because I imagine it's possible that the default recorded sounds may have some type of silent space after the "music" or the sound stops causing this. Maybe somebody can try a few home made ones to see if it still happens.

Yes i tried third party notification sounds. Same thing happens

Anyone else affected by this bug

Getting the pop noise as well. It's very noticeable. I'll hold off for awhile and see what Moto does about the issue.

I've got it as described above. Sounds like power coming on and then cutting off. Reminds me of powering on and off an old boombox from the 80's.

I have no POP noise at all. As I said before I think it has to do with the earliest batches that were delivered. Even though I ordered on the second day of pre-order I received mine several days after many others. Maybe I got mine from a second, or later batch?? No speaker distortion either even at full volume!

Decided to return it and get another one. Maybe I just got one of the bad batches. I also had a small scratch on it right out of the box. Would've ignored the scratch if everything else was good... but I can't unhear the speaker crackles and pop.

waiting now for return authorization for this problem, which is a little hairy because I'm not the original owner. I do have the receipt though--shouldn't the warranty transfer?

That pop noise very noticable when using viber...
Also try to press keyboard keys and put the speaker closer to the ear... Its like speakers are turn on/off ...

yeah, it's the amplifier shutting off. happens on crappy laptop soundcards too usually. pretty much all of them have it.

background hiss

On my hd2, if i have my headphones in and i am using the keyboard, which has the clicking sound on, whenever i press any button theres a hiss that comes on.
also, if i am playing music and i pause it, i can hear a hiss in my headphones. Does anyone else's hd2 have the same problem?

It sounds like your headphones might be extremely sensitive, or there's an abnormal amount of EMI in your phone. What headphones are you using? Also, are you running the SRSWow app? Or maybe the HTC Audio Booster?
I'm using Monster Jamz. they work perfectly with other devices.
but its not just the headphones
whenever a sound plays on my speaker, it'll play and then for another second there will be hissing.
i am using audio booster, but it has been hissing before then :/

Are you running a custom/upgrade ROM? If so, did you hard-reset immediaetly after flashing to it?
Nope. Im on the stock Rom.
i tried playing around with the text message tone, and it is really apparent in the MSNMSNGER tone. right after the tone there is ilke 2 seconds where the speaker is definitely on and is hissing

So you're on the original stock rom and never upgraded to the newer one, right?
Did this just start happening out of the blue, or was it always there? I still think it's related to too much EMI (electromagnetic interference) from the your phone somewhere...I've cranked my volume all the way up, and I can't recreate the issue. Since it happens on the speaker and headphones both, it's most likely an internal hardware issue.
I got this phone like 2 days ago and its been there out of the box. To recreate i put the speaker right up to my hear and make any noice (ie. like the click of the keyboard) and afterwears i hear a hissing noise for 2 seconds then it shuts off.
I talked to a t mobile rep and he said for me to wait the 14 days until buyers remorse is over, then they can use the warranty to ship my new phone. thanks for trying to help

Yep, that's the point it was sounding like you were at then, needing to just get a new one...I'm pretty sure you won't see the issue in the replacement (shouldn't, anway)

Don't wait. Ask for the replacement now.
I would, but the thing is, i bought it on the phone. so i would have to ship it back. then would have to reorder it. that would take about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and i cannot go without a phone for that long :/.

Xperia Play loud speaker problem!

Hey guys.
Is anyone having a problem with the loud speaker sound?
My volume is only half way and there's a tingy/ crackle sound coming from speakers.
It seems like at certain notes or frequencies I hear it but it happens most of the time and it's very annoying.
Everything sounds terrible from my notification sound to even playing games.
I sent my phone in for an issue not long ago and it took 2weeks to get a replacement. Don't really want to send it off for another 2 weeks but I can't live with this sound!
Thanks.
Sounds like you partially blew a speaker.
Quit playing your music so loud? =)

i never play my music or turn up my sound to max.
im really careful with my phone! didn't even take off the plastic screen for 2weeks until my screen protector and hard case came.
loll.
if it is partially blown is this covered under warranty?
thanks.
Never turned it up, eh? Take the back cover off and see if there's loose debris where the speakers are that could cause rattling. Also try playing a song or something to see if both or one of the speakers is doing it. If one or both is in fact blown it should be covered.
Something like this just happened to me this morning.
When ever I raise the volume and right before I hear the "beep" sound this crackle sound comes. I turned my phone off and on and it was good.

Buzzing/distortion sound with earphones

Just got my Oneplus Two yesterday and I'm really exciting over the phone.
Applied the tempered glass screen protector and started using the phone.
Some minor annoyance like echo-ing when using speaker mode which I'm fine with it since it can be fixed later on via a software patch.
But after some more playing, to my dismay, it seems like I might have a faulty set. (I don't see anyone complaining about it)
For me, when I plug in my JHAudio earphones and the phone is doing absolutely nothing, it is silent, as it should be. As soon as I swipe the phone, or there is any activity on the screen, there is this buzzing noise that is present until the activity stops. For example, when I swipe the phone, as the display is transitioning, there is this noise, after the transition has stopped, it returns back being relatively silent.
This is especially prominent when I'm opening a game with no background music. I can ear the buzzing / distortion-like sound present. Even when there is sound, I can still hear the buzzing. It seems like there is some interference present on.
Anyone else having similar issues?
I have experienced a similar issue when plugging the phone into my aux port in my car. I would get a really loud distorted audio sound when using Google play music the first couple of times I plugged in my phone, but I haven't experienced any distortions since. I have a feeling this is related to my other speaker phone problem.
Whenever I activate speaker phone during voice calls, I hear heavy distortion.

What did you do to get rid of it? The noise sounds like it is interference occurring.
I'm starting to regret getting the OP2. Should have waited longer and got the 5x or 6p
NFC was nearly a deal breaker and this. This "noise" .
The worse part is that I bought the set via a local distributor using the invite (it seems like there is some cooperation between oneplus and Lazada) so there is no "Order No." in my oneplus account and I can't create a ticket for it. Don't even know how to RMA it.
Also noticing this - it seems bizarre, but yes, something like opening the drawer or swiping across homescreens causes a tiny short static/interference noise when using headphones. Given the reports of OP customer service, I will probably put up with it rather than send the thing back, but doesn't mean a fix wouldn't be great if anyone finds one
Bumping this thread since it's completely related to my issue.
When nothing is moving on the screen, there is no buzzing/distortion/static noticable but the moment I touch my screen (or put my phone in or out of sleep mode) I hear this noise.
Keep in mind that it's not really loud so I only hear it when I am using my phone when it's completely quiet. (It's extremely annoying when watching the news or a movie at night).
EDIT: just decided that i'm returning the phone. Even after the invitation system you get a faulty phone. I really liked the phone but this experience just put me over the edge.
With my Oneplus X I have the same issue. It is highly annoying and I just submitted a ticket on this issue.
I was wondering if every phone has this problem (and that most people don't pay attention to it) or whether it is only in a subset of phones. If that's the case I might consider to RMA it.
Are there other people WITHOUT this problem?

Hi!
Did you figure out how to get rid of the static noise? I got it too and have tried everything to get rid of it but nothing worked

i had that problem too, if you go to sound and notification and then click other sounds, you can disable all these things like dial pad tones, touch sounds, etc, after i disabled those i didnt hear the static noise when moving around the home screen or then opening apps, however, i still hear the static noise when im watching a youtube video at a low volume at night or then listening to music, i havent figured out how to get rid of that problem
This is just an idea: did anybody try this with earbuds lacking a microphone (or buttons).
I tried some large high fidelity headphones and I did not hear anything, while I do hear it with my earbuds. This difference could be due to impedance differences, but it might also be the microphone which is attached to my earbuds.

Headphone pop at high volumes

Does anyone else have an issue with the audio cutting out when the volume is up high when using headphones? For example, during a phone call, if things get loud, the audio will start popping.
Something's telling me that I may have to RMA, but other than that, I have no other issues. Screen is perfect and I don't want to lose that.
I have the same issue

I have the same issue, I purchased my Nexus 6P yesterday and this exact issues is being experienced. I can only have the audio up 3/4 before the earbuds headphpnes start to pop and cut out. I have tested this on myltiple earbuds headphones and the same issue occurs every time. Any one have any ideas before I take it back under warranty.

Slight click when speaker turns on?

Has anyone noticed when you launch an app, and the speaker starts, it makes a little click sound? Is this normal? Is it just the speaker turning on? I'm a bit paranoid now since I first thought the speaker was bad, but then compared it to my G3, and now really like it better, but I do notice the ever so slight "click/pop" right before sound starts to come through the speaker. It even kind of does it when the sound stops, and the speaker turns off, but it's much less turning off than when it starts.
Nobody who viewed this thread has a G4 Play that can say yes or no? Can someone please check their phone before I return mine as defective. Just listen close to the speaker, and open an app that plays sound (IE: games), or open YouTube, and start a video. Does the speaker make a slight click sound right before any other sound? Like the speaker is turning on before playing the sound/music/audio? I would hate to return the phone, get a new one, and find out the new one does the same thing as it is normal for all G4 Play phones.
Thanks to all who help test their own for me. Great community this is.
Yes, mine does a faint click as well.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, it's not really noticeable unless it's really quiet, or the phone is up close to my face. I have kind of bad OCD, and when I first heard it, it bothered me, but now I don't really notice at all. I guess it's just the way the speaker works.
It's normal, it needs to wake up the driver so it probably catches some noise from one of the electronic components related.
Said click can also be heard on Bluetooth. If I have my Moto Surround connected and no music playing, I'll hear a hiss every so often while browsing Twitter. Probably a software-side effect (like the aforementioned driver suspicion).
Nope.
