Lost Radio chip set - Android Head-Units

I just upgraded my Eonon VW Android head unit to KitKat, everything went smooth other than now I have no radio. Went to factory settings and have only 2 chip sets and have tried them both, still nothing. I am not very good (new) to Android. Is there anything I can install to get back the other radio chip sets ? I use the radio a lot and really don't want to tether to use an app every time and use my data to just listen to local radio (Cubs, Bears, etc.)

I can't find previous version mine was MTCB-KLD-v2.20

Try an earlier one than you have now. Perhaps 2.55.

I give up, I have tried everything from new firmware, 5 or more different mcu and nothing changes. At this point I would rather just go with a car stereo from a car stereo manufacturer , seems kind of silly to have to jump through a bunch of hoops to be able to get in your car turn your radio on and get local am/fm stations instead of connecting to internet to play radio from app and still not get local NFL, MLB because they don't allow streaming

Hidden radio update in last htc hotfix.

Hi don't know if you have all heard but just seen this at Modaco.
"Just spotted an interesting piece of news thanks to the folks over at PocketNow. Yesterdays announcement regarding HTC's latest update for the HD2, which fixed an issue with showing/hiding SIM contacts, turns out to have more behind it.
According to PocketNow, after applying the update, it looks like the Radio on the HD2 has been upgraded to 2.06.51.07. I have not applied the update on my HD2 yet, but ill get around to it this weekend to see what it offers. It will take a couple of days to see if there is any change in Phone, Data, WiFi, GPS or Battery life."
Am I right in thinking that this will reset the device? as in Hard reset?
Would a restore work after the event?

Hotfixes do not require a hard reset - just a soft one.
In actual fact, hotfixes must be reapplied after a hard reset, unless of course you've just flashed a ROM that includes said hotfixes.
No it doesnt hard reset the phone. Not tried it yet since the update didnt bother me, but i might to see what happens.
It must be a ROM modification because it needs RUU, which most updates dont.
Just tried.... on o2 HD2
Got this...
I have just looked and it is a ruu.exe rather than cab so that will explain why the radio is getting updated.
Only full rom updates will wipe your HD2 so this should be fine as it is only doing radio and few other bits.
Cheers
Dean
Can confirm that it is an radio update, it not hidden becuse it says Radio on rom version when you install.

Yes it's because it's a o2 phone rather than sim free unlocked.
There is a hard spl out now which if flash that on your hd2 then you will be able to flash any rom and radio updates from any source including cooked roms.

I think thats a generic RUU message, when I flashed the radio on my Diamond I saw that message even though it didn't.
Still, never hurts to backup!

On a whim, I would say improved signal and reduced power consumption - but time will tell how effective it is.
Earpiece sound quality is much much better...thnx god for that.

Issues with nexus 6p and optus (australia)

Hi
Got a Nexus 6p from google. I have flashed Purenexus and ElementX kernel onto it.
Work well except, I am on optus and in some areas ( Central Station, Burwood station, some places around CBD), I loose connectivity.
So typically I lose data access - so games stop etc etc. I have data show up when its Rx/Tx. so I can see. still says I have 5 bars but no data
Usually the only way to fix this is to goto airplane mode and then come back out.
This is a real pain. I don't remember having this problem on telstra.
So I thought maybe I don't have the right modem firmware (what am i supposed to call it ?).
How can I check what version i have
And can any one recommend a newer / better / latest one that should work with optus ???

Question is there a newer radio.
I find my data drops when I receive a call .. don't think that did that before

Cell sig problem

I have a 64gig 6P on T-Mobile. I don’t know when the issue started, I use the phone as part of the digits program, but the cell signal is constantly dropping. It rotates through LTE, 3G, H then drops and starts over again in a few min. My S7 sitting next to it stays on LTE with no issue.
I thought it was a digits program beta issue so swapped sim cards. Did not help
I was on the android beta program, so took the device off and did a full reset with no additional apps installed. Did not help.
I did a search on the forum and the only advise I can find is to flash an older radio, but I haven’t read anywhere that this helped.
Has anyone found a way to fix this?
Phone is currently stock, non rooted, on 7.1.1 with march update and warranty just expired...
Thanks

Baseband version 03.81 came with 7.1.2 and is available in the forums. 03.79 was intended for Verizon devices, but I used it on AT&T until 03.81 came out. Have you tried a different APN or modifying your APN. T-Mo has many. I would also try using a different carrier SIM, preferrably a non-MVNO. I've seen a lot of T-Mo users complaining on XDA of constant signal drops, cycling and having to reboot the phone to get it to reconnect to LTE. I hear you with the S7 comparison, but I'm still suggesting you try a different carrier SIM to rule out a hardware issue, which it could be.

Both a new radio and bootloader came with the new 7.1.2 image, but it is also available in General. There is a dedicated thread there. If you don't intend on updating to 7.1.2, I'd suggest you download both the baseband (03.81) and bootloader (03.67) and fastboot flash them. If you don't like it, you just flash back.

Huawei is going to repair or replace it under warranty. I'll post on if this fixed the issue in a week or two.

No, but it only takes a minute to try it out. If it doesn't work for you, just flash back to the radio that matches your bootloader. Like many have said the answer is not going to be a different radio.

MCU Type/Manufacturer Identification

I checked the faq's and etc. but I can't find anything along the lines of what I have. I recently purchased a car radio that is advertised to be a Tocado TH-8021 (ebay link below) and I am trying to see if there are any upgrades or modifications that can be done to this unit.
Specifically I am trying to see if there is a way to upgrade this unit to Android 6.0 and enable the RDS function. Currently the device is Android 5.1.1 and RDS is not working, but I have sent a few messages to the seller
asking them to provide the files or website support links with said files... Haven't gotten anything back from the seller as of yet, though the did offer to send a manual via email. I am not sure what they plan on sending but the manual I got for it is not very helpful due to software/app differences.
The MCU version that is listed is: 2017-03-07 17:51:57 XYB_(NOR)__90_C9R76_V1.0_CAN(all)
Images of the about screen and the Build.prop are below.
The Ebay link for the radio is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Android-6-0...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Side note - If anyone has bought something like this and has had wifi/bluetooth issues (bluetooth issue example - my Galaxy s8+ and the radio couldn't see each other) check the wifi antenna wire inside the unit. Mine had detached off the solder point somehow before they shipped it. After soldering it back on Wifi and Bluetooth work much better. Hate to blow my warranty out of the water, but it's not really worth the cost/time/trouble to send it back for something I can easily fix myself. I didn't get a pic of it earlier due to time constraints... Plus I have pulled the unit in and out of the car so many times already I don't want to mess with removing again now that it is working much better.
It's not a bad radio and compared to the slim version I had purchased previously this one works and sounds pretty good. Biggest bonuses are I can use the radio/BT Music and GPS navigation at the same time... Other unit couldn't handle music and GPS at the same time without having app crashes and etc. Rear camera is pretty slick too, will come in handy with my job since I do a lot of driving.

Check it as joying released Android 6 for that unit.

Enviado desde mi D6603 mediante Tapatalk
I did myself but I'm not really sure where to proceed with this. The info is helpful no doubt about it. It looks by appearance I can download the zip file and use the update image and not the MCU files.
But my unit isn't rooted and i am not sure how (which root tool/method) to root it. I want to try and at least get a full backup that i can use to restore if things dont work.
I am still looking into it.. but work and other misc. events have been taking up a lot of my time.
Well i went ahead and flash the Joying July update. Everything went well. All seems to function but there's one problem: Now there is an overlay over the status bar that says "UI and MCU do not match (JY)". Uh, no idea what to do now lol

Just a small update...
I was able to root the unit using the joying intel sofia root method discussed on the forum. The link in particular I used for a guide and downloads is
Code:
https://hvdwolf.github.io/Joying-RootAssistant/rooting.html
So now it's on to trying to find a way to make a backup of the unit for those just in case scenarios.. I am gonna look up twrp for joying intel units and see how to check that out... Though given I do not know if that will work or not with my unit (and since I do know how too backup or reflash the original recovery) I am gonna do some reading on that. Any pointers that can be offered on backing up the original recovery partition for re-flashing would be most appreciated
Another thing I found is related to Android 5.1.1 and the MCU not matching overlay. This was one solution posted on the link below. I suggest using adblockers and etc, while navigating that site on my phone I had some rather unwanted ads appearing. Using firefox, pihole and adblock plus I didn't have any problems simply viewing the page using the google translate link below.
Code:
https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&sp=nmt4&u=http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D738689%26st%3D520&usg=ALkJrhh25IH8VrcKhLyOoyv2Kfjc-tRzpw#entry55987030
Actions: in system \ app there is a file (PCBA-1-C6-MainServer-V1.0.apk, SYU-1-Cx-MainServer-V1.0.apk) it should be replaced with a file from its firmware, rename, set permissions and reboot.

I am not sure how exactly this works or if it even does. Maybe someone else has experience/info on this? If someone manages to make this work please post how you did and where you got the files from. Can imagine this would be useful info for others (and myself).
**update - i also got the RDS to work by using a shortcut manager and searching for radio config options. There was no direct option or code entry to access the radio config menu.
App i used was called "shortcut master (lite)"
I haven’t tried this yet, but I definitely will this weekend. Thanks.

Well tried applying the joying 6.0 update (no mcu update) and it failed. Kept telling me i needed to update the ota and app packages at the same time, no idea why it kept throwing that error.
I had all the files on the sd card. The only thing i did was extract the 5009_20 zip file onto the card (used the same name for the folder as the zip file minis the .zip part). I deleted the mcu folder from the sd card cuz i wasnt updating the mcu at all.
Still no luck. The only problem i have now is an exploded ui.. tried changed dpi settings but no luck, ui still extends past the screen. I tried to reset the unit but that didnt work, and I'm out of ideas on how to fix it. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas that would be great. The ui seems to be to large even at the boot animation.. normally the android logo with the planet is about center.. right now its off towards the side.
If i cant fix it then I'm gonna have to pull the radio and put in my non-android one... at least until i can get a joying model.

Thats what i thought, but since the update never worked i wasn't sure. I'm gonna try applying the other resolution rom and see if that helps.
Wish there was a way to fix that ota update and app package update at the same time error.
**update - using the 800x480 update file I was able to restore the resolution to where it needs to be. Of course the update never applied due to the ota update and package update at same time error. I lost my stock launcher from all of this, though I am not really to worried about it since I use car launcher pro.
Scott, you wouldn’t happen to have managed to make a back up of your unit, would you? Now I am going to try and flash just the MCU files to see if I can see what’s going on with the overlay. I’m stumped.

No I am afraid I do not, wish I could make a backup. I don't have twrp or any form of custom recovery with backup ability. As of yet I have not found one one (or a way to install one) that will work.
I don't have a backup of my current recovery partition in case something goes wrong. I did get the device rooted and so far the root has held through out all of this
*note - I did try to use the joying root tools app (mentioned previously in this thread) to install the patched bluetooth apk. At first it seemed to work, but now I get "bluetooth sharing has stopped working" if I try to do anything bluetooth to phone related. Seems bluetooth on the radio crashes and restarts, but it will not let me use my phone via bluetooth. I have no way to fix that, so for now I have used package disabler to turn off bluetooth sharing.
It’s very frustrating how fragmented the manufacturers are for these devices. There’s so much possibility with them, but slim to no support.
I would like to get a hold of my original, factory update. No luck so far. I will keep you updated.
As for the Bluetooth, I had a similar issue. I ended up reflashing the stock ROM, minus the MCU files, just to save myself the headache.

I have no way to reflash the stock rom. Partly because the seller is extremely unhelpful, mostly because I have no idea who actually made the unit. I have my doubts that it is the Tocado model it's advertised to be on Ebay due to the missing SD card slot on the bottom left. That being said, I have no idea how to identify the maker/model of this unit. Unless there is some way I am not aware of to pull that info from the unit itself, or if there is some way to visually inspect the components inside to determine the maker/model.
Maybe it's wishful thinking that there would be some form of model number stamped on it somewhere.. Maybe someone has suggestions on how to visually inspect (or pull the info from) the device's components to determine maker/model?
I believe you can wireless ADB to back up the unit.

Well, I may have SOMETHING to get me started with the screen overlay. Attached is a screenshot from 4pda.ru. I think this may give me somewhere to start.

This can be firmware. Have you tried Factory Reset?

What does the reseller suggest when asked for an update.
