Hey guys,
Does anyone know if the twist gesture to launch the camera app will work on a different camera app such as the stock google one or another one off the Play Store?

No. Though someone made a tasker profile for the 13 X that allowed you to use any app. If I remember right you needed to completely remove the moto cam.

Am I Crazy ?

When i first got my Nexus 7 it had an icon for the Camera and when it updated to 4.2.1 it disappeared .......so this is a dumb question
where is it and how do i use my camera ? or i can only use it on apps that need the camera?
download nexus 7 camera launcher from market. works perfect.
i don't know why they removed it in the update.

First question, are you crazy? Probably, yes...
As for the camera issue, they probably removed it because you don't use it to take pictures and it would likely only be used with apps like Skype or whatever. However, as the other guy said, the Nexus 7 camera app from the play store works perfectly. I think there is also a 4.2 camera app APK floating around these forums somewhere too.
*puts down random dismembered limb*
Nope you are just as sane as the rest of us.
So wait, people really take pictures with this thing? Isn't that like, very awkward? Pressing a button on a screen that isn't even facing you and all..
Thanks found it works great ! you guys rock

Moto X Camera Quality Improved!!! No Root Needed

I installed the Slimbean 4.3 Camera apk from another device and the camera quality has improved significantly!!! The only bugs are that panorama and video recording do not work..

Do you have any pictures of both cameras side to side?
Not yet

I have the Google Camera 2.3.017.apk installed on my X and everything works splendid. I actually prefer it to the (confusing) stock camera app.
might want to change your title of the post to include the word camera.
Whether this app works on moto g

I'm curious. How is the stock camera confusing? I found it to be one of the simplest interfaces ever.

That's exactly what I was wondering.
There's no difference in picture quality either!

I agree the moto x camera app is the best interface I've used. Google camera is too hard to switch modes and has needless letterboxing.

Guess i should have been specific. It's the "carousel" settings thing i just find off-putting, that's all. I just prefer the Google camera version.

Very good idea....it really should say "CAMERA quality improved". Simply edit your first post, and click "GO ADVANCED". Then you can rename the thread.
Are you able to assign the "shake to start" gesture to opening a new camera app?
You can if your phone is rooted and Xposed is installed. There is a module called twisty switch that allows you to launch other apps with the wrist twist, instead of the stock camera app.

Probably should mention that the app A: Uses only 6MP of the 12 the X is capable of. And B: Duplicates the official Gallery app.
Didn't saw a real image improvement....

Gallery App?

Why the opo not have a gallery app only google photos?

I find that not having an installed a nice thing. You can use any one of your own liking from playstore.
I use 'QuickPic Gallery' very nice app.
Ok thanks and other question i want to have a separate wallpaper for lockscreen how i do it? I have a xposed mod and it's not working

I disable google photo and now my phone is running QuickPic which you can find it on play store
I'm actually using cm gallery app and it's working like a charm

Cameras - working ports and 3rd party recommendations

I'm just making this thread because I am just not too thrilled with Google's camera. I'm hoping together we can figure out which camera ports out there work well for the 6P - and I'm hoping for some 3rd party camera recommendations as well.
Remember not to link paid apps here - just name them if they're paid
I'll start...
I tried the Moto X Camera shared by @not-i. I thought it was pretty responsive. The UI seemed a bit tricky when trying to use the "Control Focus & Exposure" feature.
Any other cameras you guys care to mention? Maybe I'll throw them in the OP. Let's see if this goes anywhere
The HTC camera port is not too bad but i wish it had Manual Mode.
This may sound crazy but I'd kill to have a port of the Samsung camera...
Be nice to have the Color OS Camera Ported

I like ProShot as a paid app. Wasn't excited about the Moto X camera cuz it didn't do HDR. I'd LOVE the moto x camera with HDR. I still use the stock camera app day to day because even ProShot shows too much graininess in dark shots.
Any suggestions for good night camera or action camera
Snap camera HDR. Also has a second api. Lots of options.
There's a trial option so you can check it out, can alter the icon within the app.
Edit: scratch that, just installed it and it doesn't work wtf? Gutted.
I'm using the HTC camera as my daily.

Actually snap camera HDR does work. I had flashed the wrong g apps.
I am using a paid app called Camera FV-5.

double tap power button doesn't show proshot as one of the camera app

Is this same for everyone? Is there a way to add proshot as camera app for power button double tap?
Why should it?
It's programmed to open the built in camera app.

I suppose it's programmed to open camera app not just built in. I see camera fv5, open camera and focal listed just not proshot. I'm using Benzo ROM end don't even have built in camera app cause I don't use Gapps.

I don't remember specifics but I had searched a month ago for a solution to this and the developer haf said he couldn't get it working for some reason. He referenced a change in Marshmallow but people called him saying other 3rd party cameras did indeed work. He said he was working on it. Sorry not much help.

Ah OK, thanks. At least now I know it's not just on my phone.
Just updated to latest and now it works, I guess issue was fixed in version 3.5

Hi! I'm the developer of ProShot. Yep it was fixed in v3.5, that bug was a nightmare to track down
