How to turn off screen when sleeping? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It shows the time and keeps flashing. I experimented by not letting the sensor see me or daylight... How do I turn this off?

In Moto Assist you can configure to keep the screen dark during certain hours.

Momentary black screen

Anyone had this one? Since 4.2, the screen momentarily goes black, with a similar transition to hitting the task manage soft key, but transiting to the left in landscape, then flicks back to normal use. Happens in apps...screws up some games, puts others into pause mode as if a task has been switched. Thought it might have had something to do with auto rotation going a bit bonkers, but not sure....
Not heard any reports...have looked through the forum, couldn't find anything.
Weird...it just did it then....but the keyboard stayed on screen, xda disappeared to the left...
Any thoughts and thanks in advance

Thank God! Thought it was just me!

Ok..just happened again while in portrait mode. Definitely saw it flick to landscape. Rotation is locked btw.
Hmmmmm.....

It happened to me three times last night after update to 4.2 :crying:
Ok...so, while sitting in a tedious meeting, Nexus in landscape, propped up with its folding case the screened flipped upside down and stayed upside down. 3 times. My ipad using colleague giggled.
Any way to recalibrate the tilt sensor? Or any other suggestions?
It's not the end of the world but...there must be a patch solution or other? Before 4.1 I used the auto rotate app, I forget its correct name...
Thoughts?

I used logcat to monitor the Nexus 7 until the random rotation happened. After looking at the log I realized that it was always the same process being activated and that process was nVision.
Since nVision always rotates into landscape mode I was suspicious that perhaps when it tried to update itself in the background it was changing the screen orientation. I disabled notifications and then uninstalled the app and the problem has completely gone away. I have had no random rotations at all in the last 24 hours.

Thanks very much. Ill give it a try and report back

Okie doke.
For the record.... 48 hours and no random flips to landscape and back. I'd be willing to be a substantial amount of money this was the culprit. However, whether this is a 4.2 issue per se vs. Bad behavior in nVision is an open Question.

Ok. Disabling nvision notifications still flips out. Will uninstall later.
Thanks again

Uninstall it. I still think it checks in and screws your screen, whether it shows you the notification or not.

Uninstalled...all good so far. Woooooo!
Cheers!

[WTF?] Install button not active

Ok, after having a blown speaker issue with my Nexus 7 3G, here's another one: I'm trying to install a apk and the install button cannot be pressed! WTF? Never seen this issue before?
Installing third party apps is enabled, and this seemed to work some while ago. I'm not sure WTF is happening.
Running stock 4.2.1 rooted.
Attached a screen shot where button is inactive :

Why won't the LED work when the screen is on? Is there an option I'm missing?

Because there is no need for, you see the notification in the status bar anyway and maybe in a widget. Notification lights only work with screen off afaik.

There is a need for led on with screen on.
1 If your using expanded desktop
2 If you use daydream you'll be able to see if you got a message
Some custom ROMs have that feature for led on with screen on

#1. Get a ROM with Halo such as Paranoid Android or Carbon (with the proper unofficial nightly build)

Google should not. Its pointless for the everyday user to have a LED going while screen is on. Everyday user means, everyday user.... not someone who hacks their phone.

Theres other ROMs out there with Halo that isn't Paranoid Android. Carbon Rom being one of them doesn't have all the DPI change and all that.
Maybe people should stop daydreaming about LED while screen is on lol sorry, was a minor joke.
Try out Carbon though, it has Halo [you have to flash the right build] and appears the same as CM/AOKP/etc.

Motorola X screen not turning on.

So I accidentally dropped my moto x and now the screen isn't turning on. There's no physical damage to the screen itself of the phone except pressing the button to turn it on doesn't turn on the display. I can still get phone calls and I've tried to reset it but nothing seems to work. What could happen to it to make it so the display doesn't turn on? Is it frozen or unresponsive or could the connection internally to the display be broken? I'm not sure what to do here. I won the phone through an online contest and sold my old phone so it's my only option and I don't know if there's a warranty on the thing. Any help would be awesome.

I also wanted to mention that it is a 100% stock Verizon wireless developer edition running 4.4.2

Your second theory is the correct assumption.
There is a warranty on your device. But since you're not the "original" owner, not sure how far Motorola will help you. But you can give it a shot and see how far it goes.
This seems to be far better suited in the Q/A section.
Kenichi
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Should I just call Motorola directly?

if you dropped it, there is no warranty coverage. However, Motorola has helped other people out with cracked screens so it is worth a try.

up to now... I don't think it is visible AFAIK.
And if you try to google out there, there is/are app(s) which manipulate this function, by keep screen on, and make the color of the screen turn black (as if it is off). And it is working only with OLED display.
I never use/try it, because I don't really like the idea with my N3, whereby I have the s-view attached already.
