Did someone try to unlock LTE bands? - Redmi Note 2 General

"The Helio X10 will be the first chip, which support all bands wordwide"
I really need band 20 for EU LTE but I need to wait for my Redmi Note 2 prime. So did someone try to unlock more bands?

How do u know it is support all bands?
[I saw at enginering mode, band 20 currently not support

I think he wanted to quote it from some sites.
Many Blogs/Shops have that sentence included, they have to do some advertisement.
But as far as I know some reviews also claimed Band 20 (which is very important in Germany) is not supported.

MediaTek sad "Our new chip will be the first, which support LTE worldwide, over 47 bands".
It support all bands but Xiaomi just buy 3 bands.
We need a tutorial, how to unlock other bands.

I think we are kind of far off for a tutorial. From what I've gathered, there are very limited phones with this chip in them at this time, which means we have very little developer support.
Hopefully there are some people reading these forums more advanced than I, but from what I've gathered we wish we had some sort of diagnostic tool like the Qualcomm Diagnostic Tools, but it doesn't appear that MediaTek has something like this. (That has been released anyways)
If the chip supports all bands, then one would think that bands could be restricted at the Baseband. The Baseband gets commands from RIL and Vendor RIL Drivers (That should be located in some of the system driver folders. I have one of the RIL files pulled to my PC, but haven't had time to try and check it out. I'm guessing because its been compiled, it probably wont have anything that is readable or makes any sense to me. Would be pretty sweet if it was as simple as hexediting some flags to turn bands on.
Also, I'm sure the baseband is compiled, and protected, so I'm not sure how easy it is to pull from a rom, or from a phone for that matter... and then once its pulled, if anything will be easy to read for clues reguarding Radio Interface, or Modem Bands...
Anyone available to lend me some knowledge on the subject? I would love a little primer or some reading information to help with this quest.
Thanks!

still waiting....

^ waiting will get you (us) nowhere. Looking through those files, it seems that the file where the bands are defined is this. It's non-trivial to "enable" them, though, seems like you have to know exactly which hex codes do what to set the radio up correctly.

That's a find there...

Hmmm... Maybe Elephone can help us? This company got phones with MediaTek SoC and more LTE bands?

My Note2 is on the way. One of the first thing I will try will be using other phone's rils with similar soc (like the mx5 that support B20). The files are in /system/etc/firmware. If we are lucky, this will be enough. Otherwise it will be a long hacking road.

First of all, make a backup of your IMEI and NVRAM.
Second, I'm attaching the firmware files of MX5. I'm not sure about which one should be replaced on Note2, but my guess would be one of the modem...img files.
So, make a backup of your firmware files, and try to replace them (you need root, and r/w mounted system, then adb from pc, or es file explorer from the phone itself can do the job), and reboot.
See if it makes any difference in available bands. Oh and don't forget to make the new files have the exact permissions as the old one had.

I think you might be in the wrong forum here. It appears that your phone has dual-core 1.5Ghz processor (but Samsung doesn't say which one), and that's something your phone shares with SGN I717. If I'm right here there's not a single Rom or kernel here that you can flash without running into pretty serious problems.
Anyone got the root?
I also got the N7005 from Hong Kong. Anyone knows how to get the phone rooted or install CWM?

I think one of these people needs to:
Install Android System Info
Tap the System tab
Expand the CPU row
Tell us what the "Hardware:" field says
For example, N7000 units report "Hardware: SMDK4210"
Well... surprise.. the Hardware: GT-N7005...

That's odd, on every other device that field reports a general board type and not specific model number - for example SMDK4210 for I9100/I777/N7000 (and probably the Tab 7 Plus and 7.7), and SMDK4X12 for I9300/N80xx/I9305/Note2 variants.
There...
Kind Sirs out there, would this help in any way? Not too much info can be found of this variant.. Would this be the international version for the Note LTE

CPU Implementer of 0x51 = Qualcomm. See "Known ARM Manufacturer Codes" at http://code.google.com/p/android-analyzer/wiki/CPUPlugin
Your device, despite having a model number far closer to GT-N7000, is more similar to the SGH-I717.
Really appreciate your help and explanation. I find it strange that I cant find much info on this variant on the internet..

Dont think we'll see it anytime soon. Most of the devs working on it are GSM users so they dont give a care about ud CDMA uers. Isnt at&t gsm anyway?
Anything in the USA is CDMA, and outside of the US is GSM.
Adding CDMA isn't something one of our developers could do. It would require canonical to partner with an in US cellular company i.e. Sprint, Att, Verizon, etc...
So just wait until they have a hardware vendor preparing to sell the real handset.
CDMA will come into the picture with time.

Not true, T-mobile and AT&T are both GSM.
And ofono supports cdma now, its a matter of getting it to recognize the device.

I am looking to upgrade my phone on Verizon. But want to make sure that the one I get will be easily able to be unlocked and run Ubuntu Touch.
So in short, though Ubuntu Touch may not be ported to it yet. What is the best bet for a MODERN phone, that is well made enough to last 2 to 3 years (there are still some Nokia N900s out there going strong, so don't tell me its not possible) to upgrade to that is the most hackable? I've considered the Sam G Note 2, because of the really large screen. But don't know how "Hackable" it is in comparison to other devices.
Not the Nexus, very capable phone but won't be able to fully use desktop mode with full power. I would prefer 4G, since Verizon has stated that they will drop all other radio support in the next 2 to 3 years and only use 4G for voice and data.
Thank you and God Bless you guys and the work you do here!!

I'm sorry I didn't state it fully. I am looking for the most HACKABLE device that way it will be the most likely device to LATER receive a port for Ubuntu Touch. Not that it currently has Ubuntu Touch.
I backed the Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding campaign and was willing to wait a almost a full year before receiving what I paid for. I would be more than willing to wait for a port for the same software but different device. And would donate to the person or persons that did the most work.
Pretty much has to be Quad Core of some kind, as much Ram as possible. And ability to use an SD card so storage space won't be an issue. And again, it HAS to be high quality enough to last atleast 2 to 3 year. My Moto Droid 2 has gone through 3 warranty replacements in the past 2 years. I refuse to deal with that level of incompetent hardware development. If an N900 can last almost 5 years and still go strong using various different Linux Operating systems with more capabilities than the original. Then Modern Android Manufacturers have no excuse.
Sorry for the rant, if you didn't catch that, I'm a little bit peeved at hardware companies lately.

I've been trying to do that, because I love most of what Ubuntu Touch has shown so far. But now the left half of the touch screen on my Droid 2 Global has now stopped working. The screen still works and displays things fine. But it won't recognize any touches. It has a slide out keyboard, which helps alot cause I can use the arrow keys to do most things and still type. And I use Button Savior since this has capacitive buttons along the bottom, the left 2 buttons (Menu and Home) also no longer work. Oh and the 3.5 mm Headphone jack hasn't worked in months. And I've only had this warranty replacement for about 1 year. I would like to wait until official devices are released. But my current device is metaphorically falling to pieces.
Now you see why I am so upset with hardware manufacturers?

Oh, that's really a problem. If you don't need a high-end device asap I'd recommend you a really cheap Android device (you can keep it as a second fall-back phone). I have a Galaxy Gio as my second phone and I'd recommend that for you. It costs 40€ on ebay (I don't what it costs in your country) and has really good build quality and an active community for custom roms (you can install real stable and fast Android 4.2 on it). But it has no CDMA support.
I can't recommend you any current phone because nobody knows how they'll be working with Ubuntu Touch. Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S4...

[MOD] request: Screen-Off Memo feature port to Note 4?

I would easily donate 50 Euros to dev who will port it across, maybe more depending on quality of the port.
This would not be an easy port, to be honest.
From the video's I've seen the offscreen write feature bypasses the lock without giving the user access to the system. My best guess is that it's integrated into the lock sceens on the N5. We'd have to download them and try.

I have been checking the codes.
Pls note that there is a separate AirCommandService.apk file in the system/app folder in Note5. This Service is the one that possibly scans the intents when the S Pen is removed and triggers the "BlackMemo" I can find the codes for it as shown in the attachment below.
There would be lot of work to be done as there are codes for the airbutton in the framework.jar files and a few other files and the settings part of spen also needs to be ported as there are codes to check if it is enabled in settings and comparision with Note 4 files show that they are quite different. May be best is to wait for the 5.1.1 release for Note 4 and then try porting this.

I guess the 64 Bit/32 Bit would be in the Libs/Kernel. If any apks explicitly reference these 64 bit libs then, yes there might be an issue porting them. But I am not too sure if any of these core spen applications reference the 64 bit libs or not.

From your screenshot, I think we can assume that blackmemo is an app, but its an app that is integrated into the core spen feature. I agree with you that nearly the entire spen framework would have to be ported. Depending on the lib requirements, this may or may not be possible.

The below are the intents that the AirCommandService.apk will register and here you can see that the intent for Black_Memo is getting registered to be received. ("com.sec.android.intent.action.BLACK_MEMO")
private void registerBroadcastReceiver()
{
IntentFilter localIntentFilter = new IntentFilter();
localIntentFilter.addAction("android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON");
localIntentFilter.addAction("android.intent.action.SCREEN_OFF");
localIntentFilter.addAction("android.intent.action.CLOSE_SYSTEM_DIALOGS");
localIntentFilter.addAction("android.intent.action.USER_PRESENT");
localIntentFilter.addAction("android.intent.action.DREAMING_STARTED");
localIntentFilter.addAction("com.sec.android.automotive.drivelink.carmodechanged");
localIntentFilter.addAction("com.sec.android.intent.action.BLACK_MEMO");
localIntentFilter.setPriority(999);
this.mContext.registerReceiver(this.mBroadCastReceiver, localIntentFilter);
}
So if we even get this service file functional on note 4 , we can perhaps trigger and test the intent using terminal command (am start -a "intent details")
Let us hope some one cracks this soon

At the moment the app doesn't work with the stock 5.1.1 rom. Someone people have gotten it to work on 5.0.1 builds by editing their build.prop. It also doesn't work if you have a security lock.

The exynos variant of the note 4 has 64-bit capabilities, whereas the snapdragon variant doesn't. So it won' be difficult to port screen off memo and scroll capture to the exynos variant. Scroll capture feature contains 64-bit libs, but not sure about the screenoff memo feature.

Is there a method to use jio sim in zenfone 5 3G??

There is a trick to use jio 4g in 3g MTK and Qualcomm devices, but i am having a hard time to find a solution for zenfone 5 which is powered by an Intel chipset....Please help
Get a device changer app( an app that let other apps think you're using some other phone) and do the necessary steps like installing all jio apps and getting the code
Still the answer would be NO because Jio is 4G LTE only network, it doesn't support HSPA or HSUPA or GSM.

Strange... Jio states that their network is 4G only. If anyhow this is possible, it is only possible through enabling 4G via software only when it is restricted. Just like Nokia did on their Lumia phones, their phones had 4G in hardware but they didn't enabled it but a few months later Nokia issued an update which enabled that.

Yes it is: *#*#4636#*#* Dial this and you can access the hidden menu without root and you can even set LTE network mode but unfortunately it doesn't work. There may be solution for MTK devices but this is Intel device so don't expect that because Asus doesn't provide a **** in open source.

Another query bro! My phone is losing Baseband time to time. Every time I fix it, on 3rd or 4th reboot it's dead again. Then after some more reboots it comes back automatically. Should I get the Baseband Chip replaced?

After a little research:
"You need to find chipset of android device. Your android smartphone must have run mediatek or qualcomm snapdragon chipset."
Basically you need a phone with LTE on hardware, even if it doesnt have the 4G LTE antenna as it still has 4G support if you "mod" hardware or find how to enable it (remember nexus 4?) tho thats not the case on the zenfone first gen series, unless yours come with snapdragon.
So please understand IT IS IMPOSSIBLE END OF STORY STOP DEBATING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERES NO HOW TO DO IT.
good options it to learn from mistakes and use only devices with snapdragon for now on, i kept my zf5 but upgraded to oneplus

Never. The real problem is that when the SIM gets inserted, it loses Baseband (the way I described), else not. I'm using the phone without SIM since last week, no re-boot and no baseband lost issue, so probably it's something related to hardware.
I research on Google and find something like editing build.prob to enable selecting LTE on engineering mood network settings but I don't try it is there anyone try to edit build.prob

But it's possible for 3g phones running on MTK and Qualcomm chipsets to get jio signal by making a few changes in engineering mode..

If your hardware doesnot support LTE bands then there is no way to use it . it doesn't matter what changes you do in software .
Nothing for now.
So yeah, you're doomed.

ZTE Axon 7s (A2018) rom/recovery development?

Hey Axon users and devs!
I recently received a ZTE Axon 7s(A2018) from my uncle that works for ZTE. It's a different device than what I thought, I like it! I've been looking near and far for development for this device. It's turns out to be none since the security features of this device is crazy. What I'm trying to get at is...
Would anybody be willing to develop a rom and custom recovery for this device if I supplied the files and charitability?
Have a crack at it and if you need any assistance I am there. I am crazy busy at the moment and don't have time to do so.
Thank you
Kountry
hi,
there is no development for this phone.
it was released in june 2017 only in china, there are no international/us variants available. the phone doesn't have all related LTE bands.
no one need it, no one buy it.

It works perfectly on T-Mobile and At&T LTE. I'm using it right now on band 12 on T-Mobile. I also get band 2 and 4 in some areas too. So yes it has potential and it's faster than my ZTE Axon 7 Enhanced Edition. I get 176,462 on Antutu benchmark.

nice
what is the advantage of the antutu points? nothing
however, there is no development and there will be no development
Basically, it's a Chinese only model and very rare outside China. There's no demand for it and no non Chinese ROM. I don't think there would even be sources to make it from.
Pity, because it's a better device.
Did you found any method to install twrp and magisk?
