Amiduos and root - Android Software Development

For those who are looking for a good emulator for their PC and genymotion/andy doesn't quite cut it for you, check out Amiduos from http://amiduos.com/ I am working on some tutorials on how to root/debloat/xposed the emulator, I have them posted up on my blog: http://talesfromtheandroid.blogspot.com/2015/09/amiduos.html I am almost finished with the 2.0 part, but it is not hard to manually root.
Happy rooting!

Amazing! Great job, and thanks a lot for this. I was using bluestacks, but ya, that's a piece of crap compared to this. Amiduos is a lot faster. Everything went well following the instructions on your blog for the 2.0 version. I only have one problem, and I know that it's because snapchat is the most piece of crap app ever created in the existence of mankind. Seriously, I have never seen a more problematic app across so many devices. Anyway, ya, it crashes on Amiduos 2.0 .. It seems like it does the exact same thing as what happens on my old-school Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi (GT-P7510). You can install it and open it to the login/signup screen just fine, but once you login and it attempts to go the main snapchat UI (where it shows the camera open), it crashes to home screen. I can understand it happening on the Tab 10.1 because it's such an old tablet with old architecture, and I've actually confirmed that it is just the Tab's capabilities itself because I've confirmed with a few other users with the exact same Tab that they have the same issue with snapchat, but you would think it would work fine with Amiduos. This doesn't happen on bluestacks, but my issues with bluestacks were a whole other deal. First off, it's slow compared to Amiduos, but aside from that, I was able to root and get Xposed installed on the latest version. Snapchat actually opens and runs fine on it, but when attempting to use snapprefs (xposed module), it basically doesn't work. It's strange because it was actually working on the first try on the 0.8.11.3116 version of Bluestacks, but snapchat had an issue where if I logged out and then tried logging back in, it gave me some BS login error, and I had to essentially just create a new account. I ended up screwing a few things up in my attempt to solve the issue by clearing data and cache on a number of apps including the xposed framework, and ya, I basically had to reinstall bluestacks, root, install xposed, etc. At that point it wasn't working anymore lol. Snapchat will just crash when attempting to share a photo into snapprefs (that's how you get a photo from gallery into the snapchat editing UI), or it would just show a black screen in the snapchat UI. I'm not sure if I want to try genymotion/andy for my snapchat/snapprefs needs. I might just have to use my old-school jailbroken iPhone 4 to run a tweak that basically does the same thing as snapprefs. The only reason I liked snapprefs better (when it was working on bluestacks) is because it didn't affect the quality of videos that I shared from gallery to send through snapchat. Phantom for snapchat (jailbroken iPhone tweak) seems to do that. Would you happen to know what the issue might be, and how to get snapchat working on Amiduos?

Force Close on every app

Every time I try to use the keyboard it force closes the running app.
For example I open gmail, I click on reply and it force closes. (because it automatically wants to pop up the keyboard) same goes for chatting in Trillian and every other app that uses the keyboard.
By default I use Swiftkey X Tablet, I turned that off and it still forced closed, I uninstalled every keyboard (except the default Samsung one) with no luck or whatsoever.
I tried googling but I couldn't find anything related, is there a quick fix or am I bound to flash a new ROM on it?
I am using stock ROM on the GT-P3110 with the android version 4.0.3.
Cheers.
Ditched stock for CM9, everything works again.
I still wonder where the problem was though.
The keyboard closing everything problem happened to me when the clipboard became corrupt. I have a post elsewhere on this board that describes how I fixed it. Search is down or I'd find it and link to it. The basic idea is to nuke the contents of /data/clipboard. You lose your "pinned" clipboard items but you can then get things to quit closing.
I am thinking about going to CM9 but wonder if you lose anything other than the dumb Sammy apps? For example, the IR blaster (which I don't really use anyway) or anything like that.
Update: Ok Google knows all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655619
Brilliant, if it happens again I will use that. Still an annoying bug.
Also would you need root to nuke the contents of that directory?
I have the European version of the Tab 2 7" so I don't have an IR blaster, but I suppose you could just extract the .apk (it could be included in the ROM I have no idea.)
Everything feels a lot smoother on CM9 to be honest.
Thanks for your help!
I don't know, but I bet you need root. Then again, the clipboard must be writable so maybe not. I had thought I would not root this device right away but 5 minutes after I booted it, I realized I needed root for Titanium Backup and that was that.
I recall copying a 5k line javascript. Odd bug. Though I suppose going into Recovery mode and then wipe data would also do the trick if you indeed do need root access.

Working android build.

Hi all. Your android solution may be here. I have installed most of the recent android builds available. The below build from konstakang has worked and for me has a good functionality and minimal crashes so far.
http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/CM14.1/
I have tried the more recent Oreo 15.1 build but this one has a better display performance. There is a bug with not being able to change the wallpaper but will check with konstakang how to get working.
I tried the build before looking into over clocking but a revisit greatly improved performance and less lag by editing config.txt. Accessed config.txt from a root search via Nautilus after flashing the downloaded image via etcher. Only added
force_turbo=1 #Voids Warranty!
boot_delay=1 #helps to avoid sdcard corruption when force_turbo is enabled.
I didn’t go any further with over clocking as this seems to make the difference. Not seen the CPU temp more than 70c yet. Check out the below link.
https://haydenjames.io/raspberry-pi-3-overclock/
Finally to get things up and running no need for the play store at all so I wouldn’t even bother. It only causes major crashes and Aptoide is sufficient. I have root access from the settings menu and have downloaded quick root reboot. Chrome and Showbox along with mx player. All working. CPUx gives stats such as core temp. Will be able to get terminal access also from app download. The media apps do seem to shutdown occasionally but i hope a wifi dongle upgrade add-on will sort this out.
http://en.aptoide.com
Hope this helps someone and let me know if have the same or different luck. Big up to the developers and website authors!
I tried the 8-10-17 build, and I could any apps I installed would crash immediately. I could not get the resolution to fit my TV screen either after changing resolutions in the boot config. Have you ran into any issues like this?
I had problems with older builds from the same source and others. Even paid for one from Exton but he's a rip off merchant. Try this one that I had in the op.
http://konstakang.com/devices/rpi3/CM14.1/
Read the FAQ about root access and download quick reboot from Aptoide.
As I said it works reasonably well. Try the over clocking and apps from Aptoide. Also reboot a couple times I've read makes a difference with things crashing. If you find an app continuously crashes then uninstall and try different one.
My TV displays fine. 49inch 4k. I guess if yours doesn't from first boot then could Google for the correct config.txt script. This newer build seems to detect the TV resolution but don't quote me on that.
I wouldn't go for the newer konstakang Oreo build as was laggy but of course give it a go if you like. Konstakang builds seem to be the best on the net so far and I've tried loads since the new year. See what the next one is like as well as he's pretty up on current development.
is this a stretch img?
Not sure what you mean by stretch?
I'm guessing this is also for the RPi 3B+?
This was done on the pi3b. I don't know if it's works on the newest model.
Stops bootlogo n shuts down

OpenKirin AOSP for Honor 8 on Mate 9

I've been running OldDroid's OpenKirin for Honor 8 on my US (C567) Mate 9 for a few days and I'm very happy with it. It fixed the main bugs I've experienced with EMUI 8 since the Oreo upgrade. Those bugs include widgets not updating after a half hour even when exempted from battery optimization, some apps not working (e.g. US Topo, a GPS hiking app, that was battery-optimized to stop even when exempted from battery optimization), and EMUI's favoring its own launcher over third party launchers like Nova, sometimes to the point of crashing. Then there were irritants like apps that I don't use that couldn't be removed, EMUI lockscreen wallpaper whose magazine no longer updates. If I wanted to be tightly controlled, I'd buy an iphone.
So with Wirmpolter's patient help, I took the plunge and installed AOSP, specifically OldDroid's OpenKirin for the Honor 8. This is a treble-based OS, with some specialization for the Kirin processor. I've written an installation guide aimed at a relatively inexperienced installer:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76231795&postcount=23
All of my major and minor frustrations with EMUI have been resolved. All my apps work. All the hardware works (although I have to turn off the equalizer to get music to play through the headphones). The camera and video work great. Battery life is good. You can install without replacing the stock recovery, which is good because if you don't touch the stock recovery, it is pretty much always possible to unbrick your phone.
If you are eyeing a new phone or thinking about rolling back to Nougat because of your dissatisfaction with Oreo/EMUI 8 on the Mate 9, then I'd suggest trying OpenKirin. It worked for me.
Hi! Does the headphone jack work with 3rd party music players and video players like say VLC? I have a lot of music on my SD so will the app be able to read it? Also, compared to stock EMUI how would you rate battery life?
Thanks, looking forward to this.
Although, not willing to be a guinea pig at the moment. Hoping some others will try this out and give some feedback. Definitely, need a fully functioning camera, including video.

VLC works with headphones -- I use VLC, though my main music player is Music Folder Player Full, which also works with headphones. (If you carry a lot of music organized into folders, check it out.) Neither app can see the SD card, so you would have to move music to the main storage with the Files program in order to access it with VLC. I carry about 10GB of music, so I copy all of it onto main storage. Again, to make the headphones work, I use Simple Tiny Equalizer to turn off the equalizer. You can do this in app, too.
I'm finding battery life about the same, possibly a bit worse. I used to end a day with about 30% remaining, and now I end it with 20%. Small sample. I might be using it more intensely, though, or EMUI's aggressive battery management that disables widgets and apps may have saved some battery.
As an aside, VLC can see my local network, like a Windows PC. I can play music and videos at home from my NAS. I didn't know Android could do this.

My willingness to be a guinea pig was very much influenced by (1) having a pretty great backup phone (ZTE Axon), which I set up first and used during the process and (2) the time I was spending looking at new phone announcements and reviews, gearing up to ditch my phone. But I like the Mate 9 -- fast, big battery, big screen, fantastic camera, headphone jack -- and I don't really want to start carrying a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle around. There was nothing wrong with the phone except EMUI 8.

The Mate 9 is the best phone I have owned so far and I am considering the Mate 10. I hate the pro version, don't like those long skinny screens.
EMUI 8 is okay (I don't access settings often and I don't have any issues using Nova Launcher), but I would like to get rid of some of the locked in software (Duo, Facebook App Manager, Email, Gboard, Google, Google Play Movies/Music, Hi Care, HiSuite, Huawei Home, Huawei Mobile, Music, Notepad - a lot can be disabled but why not just allow deletion?) and I would really like to use OpenGapps Pico. But I really need to access my ExtSd from PowerAmp and Moon+Reader, so that is the real deal breaker.
Are you able to use OpenGapps? Does the vanilla Oreo come with Google's bloatware too?

I'm with you on the long, skinny screens. I carry my phone in my shirt pocket most of the time, and it just barely has its center of gravity below the top edge of my pocket. Any taller and it will fall out even more frequently.
EMUI occasionally asked to replace Nova, and would crash if I added a EMUI widget to the homescreen. I hadn't realized how many apps couldn't be removed. For me, Facebook App manager is especially awful as I'm not on FB and FB track non-users, e.g. through the Like button on third party websites.
Not all the Gapps were embedded but some were. I think I had to add Gmail but Play, Google (search app), Chrome etc were present. It appears I can't uninstall the Google search app. (Of course, with the phone rooted, I can.) OpenKirin is not a vanilla AOSP in that way.
Did you try/can you try viper4android? ive been trying to get it working on emui8 and have had no luck.

The reviews are too negative, especially claiming popups, for me to try this. I'm not saying that the reviews are accurate as they often are not. But I've had to hard reset sometimes to remove a pernicious app, and this one isn't worth the risk. Sorry.
A cleaner version of android is more likely to run any app that didn't come from the phone manufacturer.

Ya, I remember having an issues with one or two widgets, but then I decided I didn't want all that stuff and just made three widgets using KWGT widget maker and I haven't had any issues since, except occasionally the music pause/start doesn't respond.
I was able to remove many apps, but those I listed, and most of those can be disabled. Still, would rather have a clean ROM.
Some of these app issues are Google changes. I used to use ROM Toolbox Pro to remove apps but Google made them remove the feature. I think Google is trying to force more apps like Chrome and Search on us. I don't use the Gmail app, instead I use AquaMail which is a superior interface and I have 7 email accounts that it manages.
Did you try installing OpenGapps? I did on the Huawei Oreo and it installs but then the phone boot loops. I used the pico version which has the bare minimum Gapps. Don't know if the issue is the way Huawei made the ROM or if this is a Google change.
Anyway, the biggest issue is the limited support for the external SD card. Maybe a future update will resolve that issue.
I'll definitely update when OldDroid does, at least fairly quickly, and report if the next version improves the SD card. I'm doing all right with it just as a source of backup files.
I found another advantage of OpenKirin. I didn't get google maps directions over bluetooth in car (an Audi) since updating to Oreo/EMUI 8. I'm not sure why. I tried deleting and re-adding the connection, which didn't fix it, and music and telephone calls played fine over bluetooth, so it wasn't the bluetooth connection. Now bluetooth directions work perfectly, as well as music and calls (which did before).
I took the plunge and flashed OpenKirin - it's decent, limited bloat, but I just can't live with the external SD card access problem. Hopefully, OpenKirin developers will work on it.

How's the performance? I tried Phh-Treble, RROS and Lineage OS, this last two are for the Honor View 10, all of them work, can read external SDCard but all of them have performance issues, when you are heavy using the phone, switching from app to app, copypasting things, taking photos, etc., the phones lost all kinds of smoothness that seems to have when you just flash it.

Sorry, I can't answer your question. I have too much on my external SD to live without it. 300 ebooks 2000 mp3s 400 videos several hundred images
Camera app can't see the storage
Root explorer can't see the storage
PowerAmp can
QuickPik can't
Moon+Reader cant
VLC can't
So after fiddling with it for a while I went back to MHA-L29 8.0.0.368
I haven't noticed any performance issues after about a week of uptime. I don't game, though, so may not stress the system like some do.

Yeah I know that bug, experienced it in Phh-Treble, hopefully is easy to fix and it was fixed on Phh-Treble, so it'll be soo fixed on this OpenKirik AOSP, what matters most to me is performance

I guess it deservers a try-
I finally took the dive and installed this on my primary device last night.
Ran into one issue: apparently, Huawei pulled the unlock request page offline. All of the available links to it that I could find went to a 404 page. (DC Unlocker to the rescue, I guess.)
In any case:
No issues with headphones. A few minor graphical glitches with the volume control panel and similar things but that's about it.
Magisk gets Google Pay and other SafetyNet demanding apps working, AdGuard doesn't mysteriously stop running because of overly aggressive memory management, dual SIM functionality seems fine.
45 minutes SOT, 92% remaining. No performance issues of note, aside from the minor graphical glitches feels smoother than EMUI did.
Update: I found something that gets rid of the graphical glitches, which (so far) seems to have a negligible effect on performance. Turn on GPU rendering profiling to be output to adb, all of the weird scrolling and clipping glitches go away...

I have a "Profile GPU rendering" under developer options, defaulted to Off, with two other options: On screen as bars, and "In adb shell dumpsys gfxinfo". Is the latter what you mean by output to adb, or am I missing something? I hadn't noticed glitches, other than occasionally missing half of the first line of text in some reading apps. With the in adb setting, I was unable to replicate that glitch, but it doesn't happen often, so could be unrelated.
When I choose "In adb shell dumpsys gfxinfo" and then restart, it returns to off.

The latter is what I meant. The glitches I keep seeing are:
1) The volume panel, when it's opening and closing, seems to lose it's edges. As soon as the animation is complete, of course, it returns to normal.
2) In Chrome, at least, when scrolling through a select box, the edges of it seem to stick (top and sides).
I've seen a few others, mostly in the same vein. It usually looks to be as though a scrollable view isn't clipped correctly by the underlying driver, and turning on profiling causes it to render strictly.
I'm not surprised that it turns itself off at reboot, I haven't rebooted this since I got everything installed on it.

I replicated 1) and that your fix works. I had noticed some scrolling artifacts in Firefox, but don't seem to be able to replicate them at the moment. But then, I notice scrolling artifacts on laptops, too. I'll leave it set to adb.

Stock camera modification

Question guys. Possibly brought up months ago, idr. Im on CPT right now.
Thats Coronavirus People Time
Not....not the other one.
Anyway back when, i remember adjusting some build.props in busybox to where stock camera utilised all 3 rear lenses simultaneously. It looked great. This was regular photo mode and whatever reason cleared up that red/dark tint plenty people had with ultra wide nightscape in particular. I got ahold of a more recent kali linux for personal reasons unrelated but it came with apktool. Curious if anyone has experience with this at all as im not the biggest gcam fan (it is what it is, chill) for a couple reasons but the biggest being long exposure. For example stock camera at 30 seconds will collect light and data before the shutter click whereas gcam does the shutter click first, followed by collection. So unless i got starcam mod (that worked) my night sky photos would be entirely too dark. No i dont want to excessively up the iso and wait forever for processing. A nice 30 seconds and 320 with farthest focus works awesome on stock followed by minimal lightroom adjustments. Point is i DO want to use either superwide or the combo that i mentioned earlier in pro mode. Inb4 search forums, i honestly dont have the time so if already mentioned in a way, a link would be appreciated. Any other advice with anything else like buildprops or what latest apk is that works with this device would be awesome. If anyone has modded a newer UI to work for this, id like to know as well if possible. Thanks frens
If you are unable to simply google what you are looking for, & you know what terms to use since you seem like a photographer:
Then you'll have to probably make this. I hate the stock camera apps and all the google play store stuff too.
I just wish we could have a Canon quality camera on a phone and PC webcam.
Is it really that hard ???
Good luck. I hope you get into programming and I get to use your camera app!
Im not, just been a while since messing with anything. Had bookmarks etc from hours and hours of searching where to find the files to edit (using the phone, rooted magisk) various strings and found some stuff thatd work some that wouldnt and crash the app but its like
All im saying is for example with gcam (and others)
You can have exposure time of 60 seconds where op stock is limited to 30. So its not a hardware thing rooted or not. Definitely software. Apkstudio is basically above but gui. I know some people find things easier unix/linux related (like android) to do from linux in the first place instead of cross platform. Some things are just easier. Wasnt really sure how active anyone is on this device anymore. An easier goal would really just be getting the newer UI, pre android 11 betas, to work but idk nothing about that either. And if i did this shutdown stuff past 6 months really got everything throwed off.

Scrolling Lags on M31 UI/UX?

Been waiting for a new update ever since I noticed a significant lag in Google Pay mini game (which is not important but easier for me to narrow down the issue) and some other sites that use newer and weird UX I'm not sure if I'm right. It basically lags the f out and scrolls 2fps during that. another example is YONO SBI banking app. it's the same. slow and stuttery all over the place. so I'm using the lite version. also check Steam Points shop if you know what it is. so the GPU acceleration is bad?
UPDATE! I've found the problem. It's Android system webview v87. The factory version seems fine but I had to factory reset the whole phone. Even if I uninstalled the updates it didn't work previously but now it does. It's weird. just install webview 81.0.4044.138
