Upping the Battery - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got it in my mind, because the X Style/Pure is thicker than the X Play, what would be the possibility of swapping an X Style battery for the X Play's. I know I would like an additional 630mAH of battery. Waiting for those first teardown videos to show off the battery compatibility.

I just watched a battery replacement video for the Moto X 2014, and I've gotta say, the procedure looks pretty easy as far as non-replaceable battery smartphones go. I don't know if there will be room to accommodate the battery from the play, but either way it will be nice to have the option to replace the stock battery months down the line when it doesn't hold a charge as well.

Moto X Play & Moto X Style Announced - Extremely Disappointed!!

http://www.redmondpie.com/moto-x-style-moto-x-play-announced-specs-release-date-price/
I think it's officially time for me to move onto something else after my Moto X 2nd Gen!
Here's what completely puts me off upgrading to the Moto X Play (Style is completely out of the question!!!):
-SIZE!!!
-Heavier
-Thicker
-No 802.11ac WiFi
-Almost same type of processor!
-No 4k video recording
-Same single speaker design instead of dual speakers
-No OIS (this should be standard by now for a 2015 flagship!!!)
Are any of you guys enticed by this crap?? Seems like selling their soul to the devil (Lenovo) has made them completely lose it!
Apparently the Moto X Style has an LCD display?????? I take it no Moto Display on this version then??
Extremely disappointed in Motorola but those of you that used to whinge about having a micro SD slot will be over the moon lol.
This is what is called a flounce?

I'm assuming you aren't in the US, since that phone won't even be available to us. I'll see what the next nexus phones are like, but chances are it will come down to the camera for me this time around

I was surprised that they didn't talk about software improvements... I was hoping Motorola would add more assist/voice features
But price is a huge positive....
I think I'll keep hold of my X 2014 for another year and go for the iPhone 7 next year.
I'll really miss Tasker and Moto Voice though

Yeah, I am totaly disappointed too. I will keep my moto x too and will now try to root it.
Moto Display in a LCD is a big challange.
The moto x is always not the flagship model of the motorola.
The Droid Turbo did!
But the next version of Droid has not even announced yet

The X Play version isn't their flagship anymore, it's like a higher-mid tier option. And considering its battery size at a price point that starts at $300 dollars, I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal. The 2014 X retailed at $500 in case you don't remember.

Well I would have called the nexus 6 their flagship of 2014 instead of the turbo since the droid line was Verizon exclusive.

The X play is more like the step between the MOTO G and the MOTO X. It doesn't look like the nexus is returning to Motorola this year so the new MOTO X probably will be their flagship device. I mean 6 core processor, 21 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front facing camera.
What could come out topping that on Motorola's end? Oh ya and 5.7 inch full resolution screen. As well as a micro SD slot returning. Did you guys read the specs? What more do you want out of a phone

Something that's as sleek as the Moto X 2014??
Something that's as thin and compact in my hand?
Metal back?
These things are huge and I believe this is gonna be their downfall.
I've been a massive Moto X fan since they first released the very first Moto X but I really can't stand the new models and am sad that I'll be forced to move to another device (most likely an iPhone).

I'm pretty sure the majority of users here will happily trade an extra millimeter of thickness to accommodate a bigger battery.
You'll be saying the same thing when the Moto X 2016 is announced lol. It seems to be getting bigger each year. I'm certain next year's model will hit 6 inches in screen size like the Nexus 6.

Very disappointed in the new Moto X Style announcement. 5.7" is way too big. 5.2" is my limit. Also the snapdragon 800 series 808 or 810 are very disappointing to me along with losing the Amoled display. I will be holding onto my 2014 Moto X until next year.

I bought the new Moto G, because hell, it's $220, why not? And then will wait to see what the next Nexus is like. I agree, 5.7 is just too damn big.
Sounds like I'm one of the few who likes the new size. It's physically about the same size as the iPhone 6+ which fits in my pocket fine and the larger size is great for movies and games when coupled with the stereo speakers.
I also prefer the LCD to AMOLED. MotoDisplay is still going to be doable and with LCDs becoming more and more efficient it shouldn't have a huge impact on battery life.

Exactly my thoughts on it!
Moto X Play seems a downgrade to me in all aspects other than the battery department. I'll reserve my judgement on the 21MP camera until it's been properly tested.
Another phone I'm now considering is the Z4 Compact if it loses some fat.

I agree. I am hoping for the new Nexus 5 will be good...if not I might try to get a OP2. iPhone would be my last resort, but still an option.

How is a one carrier phone the flagship? The Moto X is, has been and will be the flagship.
I don't mind the new size. As I get older a bigger screen is good for my eyes, lol. I did say I'd pick my next phone on getting at least a half way decent camera so that will determine it for me. I was also thinking having expandable storage would be important for my purposes so it's nice that Motorola is kind of bucking that trend.
It'll be interesting to see what Google come up with.

So true! I use my phone as much as a mobile computing device as a phone so a big screen is good for me too. I can see how guys who want to carry the phone in their pocket don't like larger phones and if you can read those smaller screens great but I can't.

Will Moto Display Only Work If you Accept The Privacy Agreement in Moto App?

Second Motorola phone, but first experience with the Moto toys. Frankly, I miss the LED. When I get an email, a Google Voice text or an SMS (using TextSecure), my phone tells me nothing beyond the audio sound.
I see on videos that the display is supposed to pulse every now and then with the info. Yet, mine does not.
I decided not to use the features in the Moto App, the Voice and Assist doesn't appeal to me right now. Thus, that app is waiting for my permission and I see Display is under it's umbrella. Is this why the "active display" feature is not working for me?
Yes. It's an option in there under display.
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
I got it somewhat working, but the screen does not "pulse" like previous Moto X phones. Is that correct? If I get an email or a text, the phone makes a sound and the screen lights up once. I thought the point of the screen lighting up was to replace the LED, in other words I thought it was supposed to pulse or breath until you notice it.
No as that would drain the battery massively on an LCD screen. Of course it was OK on amoled screen.

Not so much worried but I'm a heavy user. Only get Max 5 hours screen on compared to some peoples 7-8. It's nice to conserve it. Cm12 battery is much better and ambient display better than moto version anyway.

The Moto X Style has a LCD screen too and its even larger, the battery is smaller too. But it still repeats notifications (breathing). This is a huge fail on the Moto X Play.

Yeah definitely doesn't make sense

Moto X Style or Droid Turbo 2?

Okay, so I was all set to purchase the new Moto X, but then the Turbo 2 rumors started floating around the interwebs... I am currently using a Nexus 6, but it is just a little too big for me (although I am really getting used to it - it just isn't very portable). Between Good Work for corp email and the battery drain on VZW LTE, I find I typically have to top off by 5 or 6 PM. From what I've been reading, battery life for the N6 and the Style are about the same on Verizon. I really miss the Moto apps, so I'd like to come back to either the Style, or maybe wait for the Turbo 2. The biggest drawbacks for the Turbo 2 are lack of unlockable bootloader and VZW bloat. Quite frankly, I really don't even need root if there isn't any bloat (although, I think most/all can be disabled now w/o root).
My priorities:
Battery Life
Moto apps
Clean, no bloat (or rootable so I can clean things up)
So, should I buy the Style, wait for the Turbo 2 or just keep my Nexus 6?
Pure/Style is great. I'm waiting to see just how "shatter proof" the new Turbo screen really is!
Yes, the "shatterproof" screen looks like it could be really cool. Plus the phone seems about the right size for me too... but man, I just can't stand the bloat and that might be enough to keep me away from the extra battery capacity...
Think moto X Play meets your requirements better tbh
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm thinking the maxx will be a better phone. The turbo looks to be a pure with a smaller plastic screen and a faster processor. The maxx will be more like the play(better battery life).
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I guess it really comes down to whether or not I can deal with the bloat in order to have the extra battery capacity... and the more I think about it, the more I don't think I'll like it. I'm really leaning toward the Style. I guess we'll see what the Turbo/Maxx 2 look like a couple of days.
I can deal with any shortfalls this phone has to not buy from Verizon any longer. Overall this phone works great for me. I knew it was not the absolute latest and greatest but I have to say I am satisfied. It is an excellent but for the price and soon I will be saving $300/yr on my cell phone bill.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Remmeber buying from verizon, they decide when to give you updates. Today all my lines are out of contract so I get 25$ off per line, also get 19% off and have 30gb plan for 130$(-19%) and have 4gb promo data. But the thing that's the best is the feeling of freedom.
You do what you want and when you want.
If you can either buy it in full price or stick with motox, patience also with roms
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
That is a lot good point. And at an extra $200, I don't think the Turbo 2 is worth it.
Now I guess the only question is: what color do I get?!!
I had the last turbo. Great phone but of course locked down and it was supposed to be updated fast. We got lollipop at the end of july I believe. I gave it to my wife and bought the new x.
My droid Maxx still doesn't have lollipop. So I'm sticking with my xpe. Plus one hands on said the turbo 2 screen quality was dingy and not bright.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
My dad just got the Droid turbo 2 and likes it. The screen size isn't too bad and they used an amoled display for it. It does have a ton of VZW crap ware installed that you can't get rid of but he traded in his 2013 moto x with a fully shattered screen and he still got $200 trade in for the turbo 2.

Could Droid Turbo 2 battery be retrofit into the MXPE?

Articles I've read stated that the Droid Turbo 2 is Verizon's beefed up (and bloated) Moto X Pure. If that's true, if the devices are truly mostly compatible, is it possible that the battery of the Turbo 2 would fit into the MXPE? 3000 mAh to 3760 mAh would be a BIG jump in capacity that would address one of the most talked-about shortcomings of the Moto X Pure. I did this once with a Droid Razr HD and the battery and back cover of an otherwise-destroyed Droid Razr Maxx HD. I see that the overall dimensions of the two phones are slightly different. The Turbo 2 is a little wider. The Moto X Pure is a little taller. But the Moto X Pure is slightly DEEPER than the Turbo 2 (.44" vs .36"), which might mean some adaptation is possible. Just curious. I'm underwhelmed by the MXPE battery life like everyone else but otherwise I love the phone.
I keep hearing about this phone's bad battery, but I regularly get 2.5 days between charges whilst running the indian marshmallow rom.
Typical usage involves BT streaming to my car stereo to and from work (1hr each way) and around an hour of wifi/4g browsing each day, random phone calls etc...
This phone has the best battery I have ever had in a smart phone!
Droid 2 turbo disassembly:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCKaVSUANXs
X Style/Pure disassembly:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuewklttaSc
Looks like the battery connector for the 2 phones is of a different type and in a different location!
I wondered the same about using the Moto X play as a retrofit also. The play phone is physically smaller. But I have yet to see a disassembly video of that to compare.
When people say the turbo is "basically" a pure, they mean on paper. They are two completely different phones, the battery won't just swap out.

Its a possibility it might if the Pure was a 'prototype' or ref they made the Turbo 2 from. Its unlikely but not out of the realm of possibilities.

Moto E Power battery used in Moto G Play?

Anyone try (or know) if the Moto E Power 3500 battery can be used in this phone? I'm getting the G Play, and was looking around for the answer, but couldn't find one. Judging by pictures/reviews the batteries look like they are the same dimensions. I left comments on reviews, but no replies. Would be awesome to use that battery in this phone.
