Tutorial Link2SD/make more Space in Internal Memory with Link2SD for Moto G 3rd 2015 - Moto G 2015 General

Prerequisites:
1. obviously moto g 2015 3rd gen
2. bootloader unlocked followed by root (search for this in other threads)
3. make backup of your ext sd card as everything will be deleted (mine is 64 gb strontium memory card)
4.card reader (mine is Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards)
Steps:
1. switch off your device and take ext sd card out
2. download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1 on your pc http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
3. Insert your SD card to a card reader and open it on your computer
4. Back up all your files to the computer because partitioning will wipe your data
5. Open Mini Tool in your computer. Locate your SD card (be careful in choosing and make sure not to choose the drive of your computer)
6. Right click and choose Delete
7. Right click on it again and choose Create New. Create “FAT32″ partition (This is where all your media files will go. Be sure to make it bigger than the 2nd part)
8. Select “Create as: PRIMARY”
9. Next, ext4 partition. This is where your apps will go. I suggest a value of 512Mb or 1Gb would be big enough but if you insist you can go as high as 2Gb.
10. Select “Create As: PRIMARY” (make sure that it is both set to primary because it will not work if it is not set to primary)
11. Click the “Apply” button on the top left corner and wait for it to finish the process. Done.
12. Put back your SD card to your phone and switch it on.
13. Download and install Link2sd from Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
14. Open Link2sd. You will be prompted to choose between ext2, ext3, ext4 and FAT32. Select ext4.
15. It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.
16. Open link2sd and if the message doesn’t show up, you succeded.
17. check storage info
18. Go to Link2sd>Settings>check the autolink (to automatically move apps upon installation)
i have link2sd plus version as it allows me to link obb etc
attached some pics for idea
lastly do not held me responsible for any problem as i tried my best to explain everything in detail
if any query feel free to ask and to encourage me for more work hit THANKS :highfive:

Will this allow apps not normally capable of being installed on external storage to be moved to external storage?

The above method makes partition of external sd card and treat that as internal memory so answer is yes.now u may ask why this linking ? Answer is simple because some apps have widgets

Great, this is exactly what I've been loking for, thanks!!
Now my next question...can I just use gparted to set the partition? I really prefer to not use windows if I can avoid it.

Gparted why not because it works same as tool which I have mentioned in my guide.though I have not tried it but u can,but remember to backup your external sd card first.

Hey so I didn't think I'd need to do this on this device however turns out I had too. could anyone help me out? I'm getting slight lag on 16gb class 10. I have it partitioned 10gb FAT32 and 4gb ext4. Is that wrong?

about partition u have done right that is 10gb fat32,4gb ext4 and actually is depends how many apps u going to use on your device.i have 5gb ext 4 partition.

I'll try that app and report back!
I did set 10gb fat32 and 4gb ext4 so I'm glad that's correct, hopefully this lag fix sorts me, opening apps are sluggish on the SD card to the point where having link2sd and save obb to sdcard is more strain then the worth lol

Thanks for the Tutorial @umo4u it's seems ideal however can you please confirm it's working ok with the latest version of Link2SD?
The review thread on Play seems to point to a recent update breaking mount scripts (I understand that various other reasons will cause) just looking for clarification.

i am using latest version of link2sd which is 4.0.12 and link2sd plus (new) 1.1 and everything working fine.

Hey man, you linked me to a super old file.

That's been in android since end of JB.
Still used it but can't seem to be sure as of yet. Need to redo the link2sd process.

Thanks for the guide, used it for my Moto G/4G.
I'm still a bit puzzled by some inner workings of Link2sd though, mainly the fact that the APK part keeps going back to the main memory even though I keep linking it to the external SD. Is anyone else seeing that?

Did your problem solve

i do not face any problem u mentioned earlier as i have done same exact guide on my moto g 2015 too step by step.try steps mentioned below
1.go to link2sd and open it,if no message pop up than u have created mount scripts right.if any message pop up than recreate mount scripts by taping bar on left side of app than recreate mount script than ext4 than reboot, hopefully u should not see any message after u open app
2.now go to three dots (on extreme right of app) and check storage info (u will be able to see all partitions including the one which u have created of external sd card and check whether it have free space or not)
3.go to settings and check auto link followed tap install location and check automatic
hope above steps solves your problem :fingers-crossed:

Yeah, that's all good. The slight problem is that for some reason the APK part sometimes goes back to the internal memory, at least according to the interface. Check your apps, maybe you'll see the same thing.

which version of link2sd u using ? did ya download it from play store or other source ? do u have link2sd plus too ?

Link2sd Plus, yes, latest version, I'm going to check the "auto link" option maybe that will fix what I am seeing.

Getting a new SD card. Q's about App2SD, Swap

I'm currently running cyanogenmod 5.0.8, and my 8GB A-Data class 6 SD card should be here soon.
I downloaded a program called swapper 2 and it seems to be working. When I get the new SD card should I stick with this program or do the partition method? Does anyone have experience with this program compaired to the other methods?
I also have Comp cache enabled too. Any thoughts on if I should use both or one?
For App2SD I noticed in the settings you can enable it there but its grayed out. I imagine once I put the new SD card in there it will partition the space for it then?
Thanks for the help. If you have any links to some good info that would be great too.
I think the general consensus is that utilizing a swap partition is much more efficient than creating a swap file on fat32, which figures. Just out of curiosity, does your homescreen reload?
EDIT: Just noticed your A2SD question, it's greyed out because you need to add an ext2/3/4 partition. That's for unofficial Apps2SD which is a hack-job, Google has implimented an official A2SD method in FroYo, however the developer has to specify whether you can Apps2SD-ify their app (I assume because their method moves the apk to the sdcard which can be shared with others, increasing the chance of piracy).

Not sure what you mean by 'does your homescreen reload'. It usually does reappear when I exit an app, but sometimes all the icons/widgets are gone and I have to restart to get them back. Although this happened before I used swapper 2 aswell. doesnt happen very offten.

Good to know that not every app can be put on the sd card. I didn't know that. When I get the new SD card and format a ~512mb ext4 partition; will it automatically move the apps to the sd card, will I have to reinstall the apps to move them, or is that grayed out option (app2sd in settings) allow me to choose (rather attempt, if the program allows for it) which apps to put to the sd card?
Thanks!

Yeah I mean when it has to redraw everything when it gets kicked out of memory. It used to happen every time I excited an app on CM5 and CM6 (nightly build), but now that I've added a 32mb swap file with swapper2 (it doesn't like my partition :'( ) they've all disappeared.

The ext/hackjob method will let you keep any apps on SD
I'm not sure if it will move them for you, but you can physically move the files yourself. It's just a couple of commands in the terminal in a reboot (wont get in to it now, it's 3AM and I'm tired, so I'll probably get it wrong ).
I would like to say that I've always used a partition. In the case that swap kills my SDCard, I would like it to be a certain fraction of the SDCard that dies, not a block here and a block there. I think that's more ocd, though.

[Q] Kyrillos' ROM v3.3 App2Sd doesn't work

hi all,
I followed the instruction from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957123 to the letter but the app2Sd still doesn't work.
Tried it numerous times now and also with older versions of Kyrillos but my Internal memory isn't increasing.
The SD card seems to be taken of about the same memmory that I ask to convert to appdata and swap memory, but the internal memmory isn't stated to be increased.
Anyone know what I might be doing wrong ,or is there a better manual for this application?
after installing rom ROOT THE PHONE!!!
app2sd will not work without root
apply app2sd partition &u'll get superuser permission request, select allow
(the phone will reboot and sd card will show unsupported format)

I did all steps that you stated, as also described in the original post of Kyrillos.
again, after doing all those steps I do see more then a gig less on my SD card, but I don't see the Internal memory increasin. It just keeps at 105MB
I have the same problem, can someone help or explain how we get this working?

OK now with in titanium go to bath look for "move all app to internal mem" and you're done ENJOY
then why does my internal memmory still gets full? Do I need to move the applications with another tool to the app2SD partition?

ok cool, I ran the batch you told and now my internal memory stays clean, thanks!
you can't see it in the phone settings.. but for a test see how much internal memory you have that your phone tells you, then install a large app like angry birds or something, and it should only go down by 1-2mb

How can I expand my internal storage?

Hey guys, hoping you could could give me more of a 'step-by-step' guide on how to expand my internal memory with my 8gb SD card. Please keep it mega-simple, I only got this phone yesterday, and managed to flash ICS thanks to a very basic tutorial.

?? What ROM r u using ??
The easiest way is using application or script that move application to SD card. These things will move your application to your sd card and not wasting your internal memory. it's work perfectly fine.
There are many script available - chose one that match your ROM cause not all script are working perfectly to every ROM.
try search using A2SD and ....... (your ROM) to see which one work and which one donot...... Unfortunately i have to tell u that some script might working well with someone's phone (even u have the same ROM).
The second way is to install the app to SD program, like link2sd, app2sd... it's free on the market. Also this program is not working on everyone's phone. However it's easier to install.
after install script and application there might be a problem like low sound, lag, internet issue etc. so check that everything is Ok after u do anything.
I can't give u a step by step 'cause i dont know which ROM r u using.....

it's different for roms indeed. generally we have app2sd, app2sd+(aka app2ext), data2ext, d2sd, ad2sdx and so on.
the most basic and convenient 1 is link2sd from play store~
i think it's impossible to expand an internal storage. capacity is fixed. i read somewhere that some of space will be used for kernel and ROMs wil use another some of internal memory space to copy system files. so normally you will have internal memory available around 150-200MB depends on partition layout you make. the only way if you want to install many application is as mentioned above to move your application to SDcard, and i think link2sd app is the easiest way to do that

[GUIDE] Resolve Low Internal Space Issues

Well if you’re here you’ve probably gone and bought the ZTE Blade or one of its variants (Orange San Francisco, Dell XCD35 or the Idea Blade). You’ve probably been using it for a while now and I’m pretty sure you’ve come to that annoying moment when you download an awesome new app and get that pesky notification saying “Not enough memory”. Here’s a way to fix that problem albeit temporarily for rooted and non-rooted users alike
# Non Rooted Users:
First off, if you’re Android version says 2.1, it means you’ve got a Gen1 device. It’d be best top update it to a Gen2 device yourself using a TPT, or ask your manufacturer to do it for you. Now assuming you have a Gen2 device, i.e. your Android version says 2.2, this is how you go about getting space to install more apps.
-Once you install an app, open the settings menu
-Go to the “Applications” menu and select the “Downloaded” tab
-Select any application
-Keep in mind that this works only for applications that have been granted movability by their developer
-Android 2.2 onwards has an inbuilt option that allows users to move part of the app to the SD card. You should see an option saying “Move to SD Card”. If you do not see it, or it is grayed out, that means the developer has restricted the option. This is common for some apps like widgets
-Repeat for any number of apps you want.
Note : This provides only a little breathing space and allows you to squeeze in a few more apps. The root methods are far more effective. There's also an app called APP2SD to help with this on Google Play
.
# Rooted Users
The following methods are only for rooted users. To check if your phone is rooted, download the Root Checker app from Google Play. Rooted users have two methods of increasing storage space: Apps2SD+ and A2SD.
Apps2SD+ is similar to the inbuilt option that comes with Android 2.2. However, this enables rooted users to move more of the app to the SD card and also move ANY application to the SD card irrespective of the developer’s restrictions. There are two things that must be kept in mind while using this method. One, widgets do not work if moved to the SD card, so refrain from doing that. Two, the SD card is read after booting, so moving too many apps to the SD card (75+) will cause the phone to hang a lot at boot and reboot several times. This is done using an app. I recommend "DroidSail SuperApps2SD''
A2SD is the process of partitioning the SD card and using it as phone storage. This is by far the best method to increase storage space as a 1GB partition allows you to install 500+ apps, the ease of use and performance aside. This is available for most ROMs if they support an sd-ext script. Partitioning the SD card can be done using Minitool Partition Wizard or by ClockworkMod Recovery. The recommended partition size is 1GB as this is more than enough. The swap should be kept at 0MB or if you use the phone for gaming, at 32MB. Once the memory card is partitioned, the apps along with all their data can be moved to this partition. This can be done by two ways. DarkTremor A2SD scripts for most ROMs, or S2E for CyanogenMod. This is very easy to use and having done it myself, I have 450 apps and the phone’s performance isn’t the slightest bit affected.
Partitioned and still no space? See this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933144
Good Luck installing those 500 apps and showing off with them

hi there. hoping someone may still read this.
Any options for resolving low storage space issues on a Blade V without rooting?
I've moved literally app possible to the SD card (which isn't many).... Are photos not stored on the SD card by default? I've had to start uninstalling updates for system apps that I don't use
with "low storage" my Gmail doesn't sync...which obviously is f*cking annoying
I've had andoids before and rooted them, installed custom ROMs. Just I'd avoid it with this one due to my fear of screwing it up. Is rooting my only realistic option?

Rooting and then using the solutions in the op seems to be the only plausible option.
However, you can try a cache cleaning app. Should give you 10-15MB depending on how many apps have cached data

Wait... what??? For real?
This would effectively prevent me from using OmniROM ever.
Are you saying it's a bug, or that the feature has truly been eliminated going forward?
Security and file system changes have caused certain "move app to external storage" scripts and apps to fail. This is not an Android-level issue.

Do you know then, is there a way to fool apps to install at least their data on external card?
On N7100 there is mere 10GB of space, install 2 gameloft games, and phone cries it's out of storage space. And I have 64GB card, 128GB on its way.
I understand they cry for FAT32's lack of permission support, but what If I format the card in ext4?
Or could I possibly swap internal and external card (I, of course, understand it's risky and dangerous action).
I haven't looked into it yet, but this might help.

That's not the issue here.
I can read/write on both sdcards (emulated and physical).
Problem is that internal space runs out quickly, and there is no obvious way to force apps to use external card instead of emulated.
I.e. If I install Nova 3 (3.5 GB), Asphalt 8 (3.7 GB) and Galaxy on Fire 2 (1.2 GB), uce omnirom system update and make couple of photos, I'm out of space, and can't even update apps through google play, because it requires alot of extra space, not even mention i.e. recording a video. And my 64GB card sits useless in its slot.
Use link2sd

If you are rooted you can accomplish this by using an app called folder mount. When you open the app use the add button at the top right name the folder, for example (RR3) for real racing, then tap the source button and navigate to the folder the app data is stored in, for games usually android/data or android/obb chose that folder and leave the destination folder name the same, it will prompt you so just chose yes, press the check button at the top right and then wait for the folder to be moved, you can monitor the progress in the status bar, it may take some time if it is a large game or app, when it is complete simply press the mount button in the folder mount app then go back and play your game. to verify that the folder was moved successfully check your internal storage in android settings before and after you use folder mount. Make sure before you use the app or game you have the folder mounted or you may get an error or in the case of real racing the game tried to redownload all the game assets. Hope this helps.
thank you
