after update to 1.4 my SHIELD Android TV pro stops at a Fastboot Menu - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have SHIELD Android TV pro After update 1.4, I get the NVIDIA boot logo and then booting stops at a Fastboot Menu .......
i try to fastboot oem unlock but it give me
C:\adb>fastboot oem unlock
...
FAILED (remote: Read less bytes than expected)
finished. total time: 57.252s
i am trying to downgrade to 1.3
how ti fix it ?

According to Nvidia, this is due to a faulty hard drive. They are offering quick RMA service for it. If that is the case, you probably aren't going to fix this issue. They are using some strange file system on the pro's. This is why no one can replace the hybrid drives in them as well.

There is a way to recover from fast boot look on the official Nvidia forum and there is a way to connect to your PC and recover.

Although one of their posts does say that the problem is due to a faulty drive and would eventually have to be replaced anyways.

This happened to me. So I RMA it and they were GREAT!
I highly recommend replacing it. I was never able to use grid without lag every few seconds... thought it was the service, but it was actually the hardware defect causing it

No Quick Rma in Europe
From a very disappointed Nvidia Shield enthousiast,
Owning the:
Shield portable >> almost unusable after the 5.x upgrade
Tablet 16 GB & LTE 32 GB >> recalled for battery risks
Shield Pro 500Gb >> rendered unusable by 1.4 upgrade
I unfortunately must conclude that there is no other product line that i know of that is hit by so many problems in the primary design & upgrade paths. Even my 90s neo geo pocket & neo geo Aes are more reliable .
Shield products seem to be made on a proof of concept bases trying to spark interest with other companies to start mass production of these devices. I therefore think that the primary focus of Nvidia is the chipset and the performance of the platform. The other parts are just packaging that definitely doesn't go through the same testing that the chipset gets, therefore we get exploding batteries faulty hard drives and slowed down handhelds.
SHIELD= (S)ome (H)opefull (I)ndividuals (E)xperiencing (L)acking (D)esigns
So back to the latest fault with the Shield TV,
After updating to 1.4 i was confronted with the same fastboot error, unfortunately living in europe does not entitle me to the same quick replacement that US users have experienced.
After 3 days of e-mail conversation with nvidia support i was asked to make foto's of the unit and also the box and serial numbers.
Then i was asked to ship the unit to a Dutch Nvidia warehouse & was received there without any communication or update by Nvidia.
Concluding:
- There is no replacement sent out before you sent back the old unit.
- The time needed to send out the new unit after receiving the old one remains unclear.
- As a replacement you will recieve a used/refurbshed unit.
Waiting to see how long this process will take and feeling very disappointed.

question how did you get console over the ocean? if amazon or ebay you can send back. and if i'm not wrong if with amazon there not supposed to be problem at all
complete agree with you, very stupid situation experiences with nvidia gaming product line.................
i think i have paranoia and this will happen with me too and according by nvidia words there is less than 1% faulty units, but reading around and stories like yours one ....... something saying to me there is 50 or more % of faulty units and + now hassle with exchange/postage/ some kind of proof of picture/..............complete opposite what was said in nvidia.com
anyway i ordered on amazon from states an d i'm from Ireland, cant wait that happy day or shield will gonna fly away through the window.
will keep inform here how is going on later

Hi Visitor,
I also got the Shield Pro from Amazon at the launching day, guess i got the first batch.
Fortunately for you Amazon has a 30 day money back guarantee policy, so if you experience the same problems you can RMA IT with Nvidia of refund it through Amazon.
The pixellation & slow downs were evident from day one, but i was hoping that the frequent software updates would improve the situation.
Hard to say how many units are affected but the seagate 500 GB SSHDD hybrid drives have a tendency to fail, and knowing from experience that you can't really switch of (power down) the device. So the drive will always be spinning 24H non stop. Increasing the wear and tear on the drive. Hoping for a power down feature in the next update.
You can easily diagnose this when the Shield arrives on the 6th of October, so don't worry too much and enjoy your shield experience. Like all Shield products the concept is great and the design is beautiful being able to use Nvidia Grid on a wired connection is amazing i was able to stream games at 1080i. So there is good news too combined with the expanding list of problems.
The unfortunate acronym SHIELD= (S)ome (H)opefull (I)ndividuals (E)xperiencing (L)acking (D)esigns seems to be true...

So this means when console is off mode but not unplugged from power socket hard drive keep spinning inside? That not good at all, should be known kind of idle, sleep or standby mode. Looks like on first day one if any of this symptoms appear I'm mean pixellation / slowing and specially and of course can't get over 1.4 means better use amazon refund straight away.

Received today instead of 6 October, first what I done this is upgrade 1.4 and all get through without issues.

So I finally updated to 1.4 and got the same issue as everyone had here. So Nvidia sent me a replacement. I wasn't sure what I had in my current unit so I wanted to see if there was a way to factory reset it even though I could not get past fastboot. At first I tried to boot it into recovery via fastboot screen but it just rebooted into a black screen. I eventually found this online. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...-reset-shield-android-tv-to-factory-settings?
After the last step where it says to hold the power button for 5 seconds (I mightve held it longer) it rebooted and I got the boot screen to come up. And now it's completely operational. Wth? Anyway I'm glad it's working now so I can factory reset before I send it back to them.

ELocity A7

I bought a g tablet. I feel close to it given I put in more than 30 hours going through different beta versions of alternate roms trying to get things the way they should be since out of the box it was a piece of crap. Being in canada I had driven to nearest Sears in US to Purchase it. Before the screen calibration fix I had essentially given up the inability to type properly and the horrible viewing angles and Sd card woes had me looking elsewhere.
Having tried the more expensive Galaxy Tab and finding it laggy and flash video unviewble, I decided I needed a Tegra based device. I also felt for my needs 7 inches might be better as I find typing in landscape mode hard with a 10 incher(hmm weird genital reference there LOL). I also feel that for my needs (book reading, surfing video watching, the odd game, and quick reference use) that the smaller form fact might be better given it is lighter and more portable (can fit in coat pocket....)
Heard about the ELocity and saw it available for 100$ less than what ipaid for g tab. so ordered it to my Brother's in Florida as will be there next week. It is already there waiting for me.
Of course since ordering it not having given the g tab back yet I have it working the way I want minus the screen viewing angles which I hate as I cant type on it when lounging unless holding it awkwardly in landscape mode using my thumbs.
Seems the Elocity has much better screen in terms of viewing angles. While lower res, the DPI is in fact the same and conforms to the Android OS max resolution of 800x480 so I suspect most apps will look correct on it. It also appears to come rooted out of the box. The UI layer on it is fast and responsive and flash is there to start. So for those considering a g tablet and don't want to muck around it works much better out of the box.
Seems it is not perfect yet and suffers many of the same issues the G tablet did:
Like the gtablet there is no official android market
Wifi for some seems to not wake up with the device from sleep
Angry birds won't run
All of the above from what I have read seem to be related to drivers and tegra 2 not having the best or newest ones out of the box.
Elocity says a fix is coming on december 24th (wonder if this is similar to what was done by Roebeet et al. with TNT light and Vega N with the performance upgrades form experimental diver pack)
Multitouch which is supposed to be 1+1 (which I believe is what the gtab is) doesn't seem to be enabled properly and is only emulated in software, and as of yet, not very well.
Seems from some things discovered on a different thread that this might be a 2 point multitouch after all.
For some reason there is no Elocity forum yet which I think could impede people coming on and helping development on it (Notion Ink Adam has a forum though there is no device in the wild for another month at least). I suspect given these are both Tegra 2 devices that there might be some parallel things to help.

gtablet Adobe Flash update
Greetings, this may be something and may be nothing.
Just FYI –
I talked to Mike at Viewsonic support on 20101220 3:34p PST.
He advises that Staples had an in store warranty conflict and no manufacturing defect exists with the gtablet. The update scheduled for 20101219 is posted and done so in such a way that some folks see it auto-download with WIFI and some will not for approx 24 to 48 hours.
Mike also advises that the Adobe Flash update IS NOT part of the latest update however he says it is still in the works and will be updated soon.
I am still contemplating whether to return mine or not. I have had it for 27 days and it has been absolutely fabulous and beyond my expectations less the FLASH player.
I need INPUT INPUT INPUT.
Thanks - feel free to email me –

Can't wait
I rooted my wife's HTC Desire since it took forever for Froyo. My phone is a WinMo 6.1 HTC Touch Pro. Love it, but Android is much more user friendly.
I am anti-"any product that starts with lower case i" and I'm looking for a good tab. If the patch comes out on the 24th as promised, I'm ready to pull the trigger.
The price is just right IMHO for this tab. However, depending how dev on this tab progresses after the new update, I may wait to see what's coming at CES.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I'm an instant gratification kind of guy. I can't build my $1600 gaming rig just yet, but this just might tide me over. I'm so tired of my netbook for menial tasks. Video playback sucks.
So... who else is stoked about the A7?
Post Firmware Update
Just ordered my from J&R Music. They had it for 299.99. Once I saw the performance increase with the new update, as well as some tweaks from our freinds at XDA, it was a done deal.
Ordered an 16 Micro SD with it, and I couldn't be more excited. I just sold my netbook, and this will its replacement. The netbook was great for light surfing, Skype, and email. It chugged at everthing else. Intel's GMA graphics on netbooks just suck! Here comes nVidia!
elocity
I just ordered from shopnbc. I used the flexpay option as this option is more pocket friendly for me at the moment. I'm returning my nook color because tomorrow marks the 14th day and won't be returnable after 15 days. The video presentation on that site played angry birds, video and flash on a website without issues. I can't wait till it gets here!

I took a hit for the team... I modded my eLocity to the newest modware; eLocityMod 1.4.1. Now all my downloaded games, and apps work PERFECT. I now have the Google Market as well as the Amazon AppStore. Angry Birds RIO works like a dream ! The only problem I am having with the new Mod is that I can not hot swap USB drives. I got to boot up the device with the USB thumb drive already inserted so that the eLocity will recognize it.

discounted transformers worth getting?

I've seen a bunch of TF101s in the $260-280 range lately...do you folks think one of these is worth picking up? I see the processor is a bit outdated, but the Jelly Bean roms available look like they work well. I'm interested in the 10" size and SD-slot for this price range, both of which the Nexus 7 doesn't have.
Bump. Also wondering

I think the TF for under $300 is a good deal especially if you're going to overclock it. With a little overclocking, Tegra 2 can still run almost anything very well.

The tf101 is a wonderful tablet. I just bought a tf700, mostly for the screen, otherwise my tf101 would have been more than good enough for a long time still. I'll be selling my tf101 soon, but it's,a great tab.
going to be trading for a tf101 tonight cant wait to root and play around with it.
RUN AWAY!!!
I'd like to hope this is just my experience....but I'd avoid this tablet. It was the WORST purchase I've ever made.
The performance was lake-luster from the start. the first ICS firmware update brought my tablet to a screeching halt...and while the additional updates have made improvements and fixed a few issues, I still have major performance problems. These issue were NOT related to rooting...as I was trying NOT to root unless I absolutely had to (which I ultimately did just to have the tablet for use...it was that bad. I've tried two ROMs that are better and make it actually useful, but the headaches and the HOURS spent just weren't worth it.
1. Constant and frequent reboots...often in the middle of working on something
2. The sleep issue (which has improved....). Often when you let it "sleep", it goes into a "deep sleep"...you can't power it back up and it's fully running (but you can't see it or do anything)...so it drains the battery fast. Only fix was a cold linux reboot.
3. About 3-5 times a week...the tablet simply slows down...and when I say slow...I mean that every thing you do...(press a button, open a menu, select an option...anything) takes from 50-seconds to 3 minutes to complete (I timed them)...just getting to the app settings or an app that can tell you what is going on takes 20 minutes or longer. Only solution has been to try the cold-reboot...but that doesn't work about half the time...seriously. Can't even reboot. All I can find is...the acore process is running....twice. Both using 100% of the processor and memory. I haven't a clue what is going on there.
4. Rooting issue as well. Difficult to do, had multiple problems booting into and recovery..then probelsm with regular rebooting. See the forum for all the issues
5. Surprised I don't hear more about this problem....the IDIOTIC engineers at ASUS decided to label the root directory for the internal memory as microSD (supposedly because the tablet uses one internally for its memory) and the actual external memory card as Removable\MicroSD\..... Why this is a problem? Many of my apps that write, save, or use the SD card can't tell the difference and default to internal memory instead...because the root path is the same as 90% of all Android devices. I can't tell the apps to change the location... Two apps couldn't even function...as they couldn't find where to save data. My "internal" memory is almost full, and the removable SD card has tons of room. This issue holds true for most of the apps that allow you to move apps to the SD card...all they do is move the app data to the other partition of the internal memory...not the actual external SD card.
6. many, many more.
ASUS service....I really don't know why people think they are great. It has been terrible.
1. the average response time to any email service requests has been 3 weeks. Most of the responses weren't related to my problem.
2. No phone call ever resulted in an answer. They always default to "send it in"...which I did once...
3. The tablet was in their possession for two months. When returned...the small pieces of tape I placed over the power and other ports were still in place (evidence that no one had done anything to it) and the issues were still there. ASUS still refuses to acknowledge that nothing was fixed.
If I could afford it, I'd be switching ASAP. Like I said..this has been my experience.

Most of the reboot issues with ics were experienced by folks who refused to factory reset properly, that said some folks had issues, but I experienced almost none of these.
Rooting was a piece of cake, i was rooted day one. Installing ROMS is dead simple and the tab is unbrickable.
Performance compared to other tegra 2 was superior(still is).
Battery life is amazing
Customer support sucks across the board these days, but asus put out more useful updates than any other mainstream mfr.
NEVER rma a tablet unless its your last resort.

That's funny since the tf101 had one of the highest rated lcd displays both for quality and use in sunlight. The screen on mine is gorgeous(yes new infinity is better) and brightness was more than enough to use on sunny days.
I heard the TF series are one of the best android tablets out there. Maybe not the tf101 anymore...lol

Well I decided to get a refurb'ed TF101 last night. It was well worth the price I think. Loving it so far. It had ICS out of the box but I rooted & installed Jelly Bean instantly. Rooting, etc. was a piece of cake. I went back to stock & then installed Revolution HD ROM because Jelly Bean is still a bit buggy for me (no fault of the devs, it's labeled Alpha). It runs great! Fast as can be, not seeing any lag anywhere!
It's only been a day but I've had 0 issues with this tablet.

As I stated, this was my experience. I do want to correct you on one thing.... you imply my reboot issues were the result of my carelessness or refusal to follow the correct procedures. I can assure you that this was not the case. I completed the required factory reset just as instructed (I've rooted 4 phones. and flashed ROMs as often as 2-3 times a week. This ain't my first goat rodeo.
I would have rather waited a few months longer for ASUS to update to 4.0 so they got it right the first time. The "useful" updates you refer to were to fix the poor 4.0 update. Seriously, the new features weren't worth this much hassle. Trust me, the only reason I sent it in was, I was too darn tired of dealing with it... figured it was their issue to fix. I sometimes think Android users are way to easy on the manufacturers... we just excuse it away and develop our own fixes, solutions, etc. We don't hold them accountable enough for serious problems and poor service. If/When Microsoft or Apple have these issues... you hear about. The consumer uproar is deafening. I wonder why that is? (I count myself in this as well)
Last thing... I mentioned the memory issue... this effects my nandroid backups as well. they take forever and weigh in 4 GBs each. They are having to back up all that "internal" data... which shouldn't be. beyond manually moving data to the removable card prior to back up and flashing .... still working on a better solution.
Enough... I've said my piece. Remember.... be good, or be good at it.

Never experienced any of these problems, expcept for #5 which is just a little design flaw.
If you don't need tegra3 quad core and FullHD resolution, the TF101 is still good to go. 720p is still a bit dodgy on stock kernel. JB is on its way, but is hardly a usable rom (for me). ICS is still good enough.
Update
Thread, but in case anyone goes looking for info about this tablet.....
The issues and bugs continued, some minor, and some VERY big, making the tablet almost unusable.
Finally, two weeks AFTER the warranty expired, the processor fried. Just set it down to get a drink, came back 5 minutes later to dead, nothing. Three experienced techs all independently diagnosed a dead processor.
So in a word...The ASUS Transformer Pad 101 was a worthless piece of garbage.

Wow, I had no idea worthless piece of garbage is one word.
My warranty has been out for 8 months and it is still running Android 4.2.2 just as smoothly as a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10. IMO, it is a solid device.
If I were buying today, I do not think I would spend more than $150 on the tablet, or $250 if it comes with a keyboard dock myself, I would get a newer tablet.

Lol. Exactly... It was an amazing tablet when it came out, it's still a very good tablet 2 full years later. Yes, it was released 2 years ago (well, 21 months). I own 2, that I bought refurbished with the dock (also refurb), and haven't had a single hardware issue. I also know 2 other people that own one, and they also haven't had any hardware issues. Based on posts here on XDA, Asus will almost always blindly replace your defective parts even if you're rooted, rom'ed, etc as long as you're still under warranty.
As a contrast, I have 4 co-workers that bought the Nexus 7. Three of them had to RMA it within 2 months, and one of those had to buy a new one because Google/Asus kept throwing each other the ball and no one wanted to honor the warranty. Only one had a trouble-free tablet.
That being said, your CPU fried for a reason, CPUs don't simply "stop working". I've been working in IT for over 15 years and I have yet to see that happen. I'm not saying it's something you did, or didn't do, as I have no way of knowing. But there was an other problem that caused it to stop working (overvoltage, short, etc). I know at this point it's too little too late and I'm not here to do Asus PR, but chances are it would have happened eventually regardless of how long the warranty was. Just sucks it happened right when the warranty stopped...
Right now, as of March 2013, I don't see any tablet that can compare quality/price ratio to what this one was 2 years ago. Either all overpriced brands or cheap replicas.
i bought this tablet in Black Friday 2011 in an severely overcrowded and riot police-requiring Best Buy and I'm still happy as i can be with it. The hacking community still supports it and I find that there's frequently something new to update it with even if Asus itself has abandoned it. If anyone finds it on the REALLY cheap like $150 or so, i heavily recommend it. I haven't had any issues with it other than some Word-adaptation apps working weird sometimes.
According to Antutu benchmark, the tf300 only performs 50% above the tf101, just so you can have some comparative perspective.
Bought my TF101 back in 2011 when they first came out. I got lucky and found an "open box" unit at best buy with the dock included for $100 less than new (at the time).
It's worked great ever since, regardless of running Honeycomb, ICS or rooted with custom JB 4.2.2 ROM. It doesn't seem to care and has run consistently better with every upgrade. It still has enough hp to do all the things I use it for (games, youtube, HD movies, browsing, fb, the list goes on...). and I will continue to use it for a long time yet. Especially if it continues to receive support from dev's here on Xda with great/stable ROMs.
I love the full keyboard dock and love the crazy-long battery life. It's still a great tablet IMO and well worth $250 with a dock.

Xperia Z Tablet first Impressions

I just got my New Xperia Z Tablet 32Gb, after being a long time asus transformer user, I had them all. tf101,tf201,tf300, tf700 and after got enough with Asus I/O Performance Issues and Drawn Battery issues w/ Dock, finally decided to jump out of tegra Soc Products and move into Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC's. First I got my Nexus 7 2013 and Now just got my Xperia Z Tablet. Here's my First impressions:
Positives:
- What a beautiful Sleek Machine(aesthetics), thin, waterproof(already tested it), not going to use that feature anymore, I'll explain why below.
-Superb Quality of the Screen, much better than my Nexus 10, Nexus 7 2013 and tf700, color reproduction on movies and photos are simply outstanding.
- Excellent Sony Apps, walkman, FM Radio, Video Player(doesn't support MP4 1080p video files with DTS sound), Dual Shock controller support without rooting, Wireless sound works just great, browsing experience was delightful(fast and accurate with no lag at all, Asus Anyone?)
-Snappy Performance, much faster than my rooted Nexus 7 2013(w/ custom Rom)
Negatives
- I already damaged the speakers cover, both of them, I'm a very delicate man, I was trying to find the ports to charge my unit and slightly pull both speakers thinking they were regular ports cover and bend so easy. So this is a Very Fragile and Delicate Machine, as a Pianist I may say too Fragile and poorly constructed, at least the speaker ports, fortunately it doesn't affect the speaker quality, however I won't be able to test the waterproof feature ever again.
- For god's sake, the MicroUSB port, really Sony???, is that a Standard MicroUSB port or just a proprietary Sony Port. Really Pissed me off I could't connect the micro usb cable to charge it because It didn't fit, after checking the Pins orientation, I found out it has to be plug facing down. Great Job Sony! At least put some Label on it. I already messed up a Android TV Box because of this. I hate these micro USB ports,in my case with my Android Tv Box It didn't fit and I slightly pushed it and micro UsB port(connector) got loose(broke down) and my unit was dead.
- 5-6 Hours charging time, Are you kidding me Sony, I thought the Nexus 10 charging time was bad. I was wrong.
- Very Poor Manual(See ports issues)
- Very Expensive accessories, the official Sony case only was a painful $90, we pay 15% tax in Canada.

Updated, why I'm considering return this piece of technology:
1. Charging time when the screen is on, it takes an unacceptable and ridiculous time of 9-10 hours, I don't even sleep that much on a daily basis, this is a power hog device when the device is in use, just regular use as browsing, the battery runs out quickly, I don't want to imagine watching 1080p mp4 video files for a couple of hours before the battery drains out and then have to wait 9-10 hours to charge my unit again. A possible solution would be to have 2 xperia Z tablet and while 1 is charging, use the other one to play my audio/video files(Sarcasm!) or just keep using my nexus 7 for watching 1080p movie files, I have a nexus 10 and nexus 7 2013 to compare with and on those units I don't even have to turn the screen off while I charge them. I know I'm not the only one, a bunch of people are having this issue. My only hope is to root it, install a custom ROM and wipe out all those overkill sony apps. I have 13 days left to try it.
As much as I love this tablet, the Nexus 7 2013 regardless of its smaller screen is a much better(functional) device.
I'm going to buy the charging dock so see if charging times improves a bit.
For a $689.98 unit($599+lovely 15% sales tax where I live), which is a pretty hefty price I'd expect much more than this. If you add the $92 price for the official sony leather cover, $40 for a micros sd class 10 memory card and $50 bucks for the charging cradle(going to buy it tomorrow morning), I get a total whooping and scary price of $871.98.
Now I understand why I've seen some people selling their xperia z tablet on local craigslist for a so low price($350-$400 for the 16gb model and $400-450 for a 32 gob model, there was even a guy selling his 32 Gb model for $350 with only 2 months use, and most of them were including a sony dock and a leather case with their offers, and those were with a proof of purchase(best buy receipt) so we know those are not stolen units.
Now I remember all of the sudden why the only other sony device in my crowded current gadget inventory is a Sony PS3 console.
Will report as I go if I ever solve this issue before the 14 days return policy from best buy. Cheers!

Why are you charging with screen on? I charge mine overnight (with screen off as I don't watch it in my sleep ) and it takes about 5 Hrs to charge. Most people report 5 to 6 hrs charging time.
Also, charging / run down rates improve with time. I use mine mainly for browsing and the battery seems to last well.
Using the dock will not make it charge any faster. However , using a 2.0A charger (as comes with an iPad) does improve charging times.

The micro USB is a pain but then again it is the same on all other tablets and phones i own. Still pisses me off everytime i have to plug my nexus 4 in.
That's why i bought the docking station for the Z tablet. It is risiculously overpriced but it works flawlessly and you wont have to open close the waterproof caps that seem so fragile.
I reccomend using mx player with the Neon codec (link for the codec is within mx player settings) to watch movies with DTS.
This tablet has a very active modding community here btw. There are very good android 4.3 ROMs around.

Can you send me the link for the 4.3 Roms? the xperia tablet z developer forum is quite a mess, tf300t, tf700 and nexus 10 and nexus 7 2013 developer forums where much better organized.
I cannot believe I cannot unlock the bootloader, I followed the instructions from sony mobile site and it's the first time I've failed in so many years unlocking and rooting android devices. I feel like a newbie, I'm getting "FAILED <remote: command did not succeed>, when I run from cmd "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version" it works and prompt a reply "0.5". I'm guessing either I entered the wrong ID for unlocking generator tool(Foolish sony for making those numbers so hard and small to read, had to use my DSLR camera and take a picture of it and zoom it just to make sure wasn't making any mistake)
Any ideas why it went wrong???. The Fastboot mode is perfectly working, why do you think it's failing to unlock my device? I did attempt to replace adb driver on windows 7 64 bit with the one sony suggests and it didn't replace it. it says it's an older version. Any clues here?

If the device is reporting the status (0.5) then I guess the drivers are working.
Have you checked if unlocking your bootloader is allowed? Depending on supplier, it may not be.
Follow the instructions in steps 1 and 2 here : http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions to view the boot loader status.
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked but can be unlocked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked

Yes, it is. Already checked that.
I'm reinstalling Latest Android SDK Manager and will delete old ADB driver to force it to used the sony one.
An android tablet with a lock boot loader, not root and no custom rom is a definitely No Go for me, I'd return it immediately if that were my case.
The good news is my xperia tablet z is now charging in 4 hours aprox.( iPad 3 charger w/ screen off)

Just a bit more info :
The number I provided to Sony to get the unlock code was the IDID number. This should be printed on a label on the side of the box the tablet came in, and is also printed on the edge of the tablet (between usb & sd card ports?). I think I had to drop the last digit for it to work.

chinese method was the best one for latest 4.2.2 firmware 10.3.1.C.0.136 (SGP311/SGP312).
These complaints about the charging time are BS.
5-6 hours is the charging time when charging from EMPTY battery to 100%. (With an alternative 2A charger, 4.5 hours.)
Next point: Who really uses his tablet many hours a day? Since a tablet is not a work device (or, more specifically, a device one can do only very little work on), that would mean: Hey, get a life, don't sit around all day and uselessly play around with your tablet! (By the way: That now tablet sales eclipse PC/laptop sales shows that it's a myth that computers are used for work. The work part in reality is rather small; most time computers by most people are used for leisure activities.)
OK, so with REASONABLE usage, you are at, say, 40-60% battery at the end of a normal day. Charging from that percentage to 100% needs of course much less time. When going to bed, simply plug it in, and even if you sleep very short, it'll be full. And if you forget to charge, even charging it during the morning routine will help to get decent battery percentage to get through the day comfortably.
So, for a normal adult who goes to work and has a social life, this "5-6 hours" figure is irrelevant anyway.

Your reply was very rude and disrespectful, I don't need to start a flame here and I don't need to give you explanations about my personal life. Just for your information I'm on sabbatical, what you consider normal for your particular case may not be the same reality for others, you sounded like a Sony Fanboy, how old are you? As a System Engineer I can do whatever I want with my tablets and portable devices specially now, when I finally have plenty of time to spend with.
One more question: Do you work for Sony? or maybe Google? Cheers!
I really do like this tablet a lot and i do believe that the runtime of it is ok considering how thin the device is.
Sony did screw up the chrarging though. This is a simple fact. I bought the 12W apple charger yesterday and the tablet charges in no time.
This should not be happening. From what i read this shouldn't even be possible because of charging electronics. Sony simply shipped the device with a ****ty charger.

Why are you getting so worked up?
You just confirmed my thesis - only people who have exceptionally much time on their hands to dabble with their tablets (of course they are entitled to do that, but they're a really small minority, and let's admit it, there are better uses to one's time than sitting around for hours and hours in front of a screen) need all the juice of their battery to get through the day. All others won't, and hence the time to charge won't be 5-6 hours, but much less. q.e.d.
Of course it's always better to have more, but in reality it's mostly (mostly!) irrelevant, and if some people are honest, it's just this "but tablet X can run longer" **** comparison thing.
The Sony engineers were just realistic in this regard instead of participating in the **** comparison and thus were able to build an exceptionally light and thin device, which really makes the device more usable (when I had an Acer A700, I always reached for the Nexus 7 because of the weight & size; now the Nexus 7 collects dust, and there's absolutely no drive to buy the new Nexus 7 or another smaller tablet, I think that says it all).
Best Wishes!

Yeah it is sick, how many hours people want to spend with their tablet. Watching movies, reading books, check mails, check facebook, check newssites, write documents, playing games etc.
I use my Tablet @ University. If you don`t play at every lecture games, it is more than enough for the whole day.

How long does a repair take, i sent my M.O.J.O. back to the store (bol.com), because he was friezing and was getting hot.

I think it's a hardware problem because i don't get it immediately.
And if i take out the power cord and put it in again immediately he will freeze even faster, if i do nothing for a while (without the power cord) he will work again
for a short time, so i think the CPU or GPU or both are overheating, and thats a hardware problem.
And i hope i will not have this problem when i will get him back or get a new one.
It's been 2 weeks already and i still have not hear from them, how long does it takes to fix a dam Android TV BOX???

Mine also freezes when downloading from the play store and locks up completely when I am playing Walking Dead. I have opened a support ticket with Mad Catz and am still waiting for a response.... Hopefully it is a software issue and not hardware.
Ok rickyd1982 i will let you know how it went, and JulianH you also have it wile playing games like Walking Dead, then it also sounds like overheating.
But how can you bring out a Device that has Freezing problems, and why have i heard nothing yet from Mad Catz, it is normal they answer questions, or are
they the same as MeLE?
This is bad advertisement for Mad Catz.

Let me know what they say. I started playing the Walking Dead and it freezes on me as well. That is the first time I've had freezing. I have had apps crash occasionally, but not freeze like this.
Waiting for repair

Yes he can get hot, i hope i get a new one soon, because i just sent my MeLE M9 back to the store, for money refund, i was getting sick of all the
problems he had, there were 12 BIG problems i and others found, and non of them are fixed in mounts, after many firmware updates.
Unbelievable i am waiting 3 weeks now, and still they have not fixed him.
Wow are there that many broken devices at Mad Catz repair service, thats not good news for us.
Can you please hurry up Mad Catz.
So i have received an e-mail from Bol.com, and they say:
After investigation has shown that your article according to the guidelines of the manufacturer, unfortunately not more can be repaired.
For this reason, we will refund the amount you paid on your account back. Please take this with a maximum processing time of five days.
A new article unfortunately we can not send automatically. If you prefer, you can order it yourself again www.bol.com.
Sincerely,
bol.com Customer
So they (Mad Catz) can not repair the freeze problem, so guys this is not good news for you to hear, it means you have to order a new M.O.J.O.
Because it can't be fixed, and it takes 3 to 4 weeks till finally Mad Catz will look at your device and sees it can't be repaired (but it means it
costs too much to repair it).
So i think i now go for the Tronsmart Vega S89 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM with Android 4.4 KiKat, Costs almost half of what the M. O.J. O costs, and he is also fast, gets about 25000 a 30000 points in AnTuTu Benchmark 4.
And it supports Dolby Digital (AC3) 5.1 / DTS 5.1 / DTS-HD HRA 5.1 / DTS-HD MA 5.1 with HDMI passthrough in XBMC.

Or i go for the Minix Neo X8s, has the same hardware and cost the same, and comes in may, or i wait for the Rockchip RK3288, and that chipset is gone
have a ARM Cortex-A17 2.0GHz processor and Mali T628 GPU and it has H.265/HEVC support for 4K2K videos, and HDMI 2.0 for 4K @ 60 fps video
output, and Gigabit Ethernet.
I'm getting nowhere with Mad Catz support.
They think my problem is not hardware and keep asking me to factory reset it and clear data!
I have done this but it still freezes/lock during downloads and in game.
Looks like it's back to retailer for a refund (and possibly buying a Nvidia Shield)
not looking good for M.O.J.O.
new firmware needed
I'm not an expert but I have had other boxes and have had freezing in them to and a firmware update helped them I don't think it is hardware either I'm sitting tight till the new firmware comes out cause apart from the freezing this definitely is the best box about look at the trouble the new console s had at launch day these things happen its how they sort them out that counts

Sorry to say but If you BOX freeze every time it's NOT the best box out there, and sorry but Freezing is not a little problem that you can have if you
have a new Android TV BOX, but it's a BIG problem, because of that he is unusable, and Mad Catz is very slow with Firmware updates, only 1
firmware update in mounts.
It's a pity it could be a great Android TV BOX.
I agree I never said it was a wee problem remember I have the same problem I said that it is the best box out of the many I have had and I have had a lot of boxes but I'm trying things here like adding fans and freeing up memory I have only 4 GB left on my internal memory so I am moving all my apps to SD as we speak to see if that helps did you have much memory left on urs when the freezing was happening my last box MINIX x7 when it was low on memory it had a mind of its own I also agree that we need firmware updates out quicker but ones are asking for kik kat I think this next firmware will make this box sing fingers crossed kik kat, ouya store, and an end to this freezing

No i had almost nothing on my M.O.J.O., so Storage was empty, and also memory was empty, I hope for you guys that there i gone be a
Firmware update soon like Android 4.4 KitKat, and that everything works as it should be.

Why did I buy this device?

I need to vent, not looking to start arguments but rather just reporting my experiences.
Nvidia Shield Tablet arrived 3 days ago, loved it after using it for 2 hours, happy times.
Then I made the mistake of trusting Nvidia with an OTA update from whatever version of LP it arrived with to MM - big mistake (by Nvidia - how am I supposed to have made a mistake when it's an OTA update?) because after this the Shield Controller buttons stopped working, I'm assuming because of that update but I'm not certain by any means. Updated the controller firmware with OTA, no change, shoulder buttons still do not work.
Downgraded to 5.1.1 stock, shoulder buttons do not work still. Oh and it's gone from buttery smooth 3D performance to constantly slowing down every few seconds. Oh yeah and every 15 or whatever seconds it goes to the map screen without my input.
So basically it's a useless lump ATM.
In between me loving it and getting to this sorry state was a whole load of stuff not working which unfortunately I've just come to expect from Android ... formatting the SD card and then dissappearing it or complaining that it has 0bytes available (solution: format in another device), TWRP acts ... retarded, I doubt it's anything to do with developers as I've never had issues with TWRP other than on Shield such that doing anything with it is punctuated by 30 second freezes. MTP is the usual lottery - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't etc. \
I'm sure that has nothing to do with Google wanting to sell cloud storage but rather they are just inept when it comes to that.
I guess tomorrow I will add to the 7 hours already spent on this device by trying to find a stock image that works.
I am regretting the purchase ATM unfortunately.
Ahh I feel your pain, been there.
Did you try flashing the marshmallow image? I had so many problems on lollipop with my controller, same deal. Marshmallow fixed everything, and games run even smoother, I can clock the cpu down a few notches for many games now, where I could't on lollipop.
Are you using the K1?

Maybe your device is defective? I have an og shield and my gf has a k1 and they're both great.
Sent from my HTC M9 using Tapatalk
Try a factory reset. Good rule of thumb is to factory reset after any major updates
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using XDA-Developers mobile app
As suggested by others do a factory reset and try a different kernel [BitO kernel]. I have no problems on MM - shield K1.
You are having ghost touch , i heard tampered glass screen protector was reducing the high screen sensitivity.
Also calibrate your screen ; take a look at this thread for more details Adjust your touchscreen sensitivity
