I need your help to check my theory: why many users don't have heat issues! - Xperia Z4/Z3+ General

I have seen many reports on XDA and some other forums that many users have NEVER had heating issues, their Antutu are even over 50k. And I have seen a guy compared his Z3+ with his friend's phone in 100% conditional (preinstalled software, latest 251 firmware, background app, temperature at first,...) and the result is strangely diffirent: his phone didn't have heat issues as the camera was all good (just warmer than Z3 a little bit), but his friend's phone was hot and automatically closed the camera.
As all of you have already known, SONY USED TO FIX THINGS MANY BUG, FAULTS, AND RESOLVE MANY PROBLEMS .... in their later manufacturing weeks product. For example: A Xperia Z1 which was manufactured in late 2013 is hot, yellow-tinted screen, micro-USB protections are easily to be ripped off,.... but all the phones in 2014 and later are not having these issues.
So I think maybe, just maybe (and that's why I need all of your helps), Sony actually've done something on all the Xperia Z3+ that being manufactured on later weeks+, so that's the reason why many of you don't have heating issues or battery like others. This is likely to be happened because Sony actually acknowledged about the heating issues, and I don't think they won't do anything about it since the heating issues have been hurting the company.
So I want all of you to check your phone to me these informations:
Phone colors:
Region:
Cus. number:
Firmware version:
Heating status: very hot or not, and is the camera auto-closed thing still bother you?... more details if you can.
Battery status (SoT...):
manufacturing date:
This is how to check your manufactured week: In the simcard tray, you can see a small piece of paper (look closer), pull it out with a pair of tweezers or anything you can (the same thing I do to remove the sim card tray, my fingers are just too fat for that fiddly thing) and you will find found the information you would find usually behind a battery cover of other phone like Samsung's and such, the IMEI number, other serial numbers and of course, the manufacturing date. Write it down to me as above.
Example: 15W15, this means the phone was manufactured in 15th week of the year 2015 (between the dates April 7th to the 13th).
Thank you very much for helping

Interesting investigation. What's the date of those doesnt have heat issue?

Hi, thanks for your interest, Sony haven't replayed any of my tweets..
Phone colors: Black
Region: México (but my phone comes for China)
Cus. number: Don't know
Firmware version: 5.0.2 build 28.0A.4.8 rooted, bootloader unlocked
Heating status: very hot, camera auto-closed, slow charging, should not use it frequently if I want it to survive the day.
Battery status (SoT...): Discharging? sorry don't know
manufacturing date: 15W24

You suppose to write your screen on time you usually have for the battery status
I can see that 15W24 mean your phone is manufatured in June. It's one of those early weeks of Z3+.

Do you think that in that date, when was manufactured should not be has that problem?

Hi,
Phone colors: Copper
Region: Hungary (my phone comes for Taiwan)
Cus. number: 1294-9651
Firmware version: 5.0.2 build 28.0.A.8.251
Heating status: hot (~ 60-65 °C, my Z2 heating stat.: ~ 72 °C), camera auto-closed (4K video recording: 15 min), the charging is faster than the Xperia Z2.
Manufacturing date: 15W29 (July 13-19)

Phone colors: Black
Region: USA (made in China)
Firmware version: 5.0.2 build 28.0.A.8.251
Heating status: very hot, the camera auto-closed, battery last nothing, QC2.0 is not as quick as it should
Battery status (SoT...): Discharging
Manufacturing date: 15W27
Antutu: 42825

Phone colors: Black
Region: Europe (Germany)
Firmware version: 5.0.2 28.0.A.8.251
Heating status: overall ok, warm to touch during Antutu and 4K recording (got a warning after 4 minutes, I stopped after 17:30 minutes or so, but it didn't automatically stop, a warning got displayed that the camera needs to cool down after I stopped recording); when I finished writing this post, I checked again and the phone was basically back to normal temperature wise
Battery status (SoT...): Discharging
manufacturing date: 15W32
Antutu: 53940 (after cold boot)

Black
Region Eastern Europe (BG)
Madei in China (
FW version ...8.251 full stock
15w24 (its so new Yes,yes)
After last update ...251 it have no overheating. Before update the heat was a problem. The charging is fast now and before. Im heavy gamer an have no problems with game performance. Now im happy with this phone.
Before update Antutu was 49000. Now - 55100 (testing in cup with cold water)

Today I did some tests with mine, only had it for one week, and a question came to my mind. If 4k movie uses 1.6GB of data for 4min recording will the flash also increase temperature? So the question is, can the usage of microsd make any difference in temperature?
I don't have sd yet, so didn't tested. Only verified that movie at 720p HD didn't force close.
Phone colors: Black (dual-sim)
Region: my phone comes for USA but charger was UK
Cus. number: 1295-0389
Firmware version: 5.0.2 build 28.0A.8.251

**Ultimate GS3 sudden death thread**

**** SAMSUNG HAVE APPLIED A SUDDEN DEATH FIX VIA A SOFTWARE UPDATE****
STOCK KERNEL: XXELKC AND NEWER
STOCK RECOVERY: XXELKC AND NEWER
ALSO ANY CUSTOM KERNEL AND RECOVERY THAT ARE BUILT FROM THE UPDATED SOURCES. THERE HAVE BEEN CASES OF SDS ON DEVICES THAT HAVE UPDATED BUT TO WHAT EXTENT THE DAMAGE WAS AT ALREADY BEFORE FLASHING WE DON'T KNOW.
WHO'S AFFECTED?
It seems that at the moment the only devices that have suffered from SDS are the 16GB version with:
eMMC: VTU00M
FW Rev: 0xF1
To check your eMMC version download eMMC Brickbug Check from Google Play.
What you want is the eMMC version and the FW Rev.
THE FIX
Samsung have now released a Sudden Death Fix via a patched Kernel and Recovery in latest firmware. Firmware Version: XXELKC
Simply update OTA or download XXELKC firmware (or newer) from sammobile.com and flash using Odin.
You need both the stock recovery and kernel installed for it to work properly, or a custom kernel and recovery built from the updated sources
ie Latest Perseus Kernel and PhilZ Recovery are examples

WARRANTY
For those of you in Europe who have rooted your phone it appears that this doesn't void warranty. Check this thread for more info.
Also this website could prove very handy for anyone with a European or UK handset that has died.
Okay, here's what just happened to me:
I went to sleep in the night with my phone's battery at around 29%. I just woke up and my phone's home button wouldn't respond. Then, the power button wouldn't respond! I took the battery out and put it back in. It still wouldn't respond! So, I plugged the charger in and then it showed me that it had begun charging. I turned the phone on and as soon as it reached the lock screen, it turned itself off. It did that twice more so I decided to let it rest. Now, it turns on. (>_>)
Apparently, 29% of its battery was somehow consumed last night. I really don't know how!!!! My wifi was on,it seems, but around 30% battery drain in just a few hours?!! That's insane! I'm on stock DL4. Not even rooted!
So it's not a "death" case, per se, but I had a really bad scare.
What happened: Went to bed, left phone on charge, woke to the green "fully charged" light, but no response to buttons. Pulled the battery to make it reboot, and now nothing. Neither download nor recovery modes, no charging light, nothing. It's off for repairs.
What ROM/Firmware: Wanam's J5 (which I'm convinced had nothing to do with it.)
What kernel: stock
OV or UV: Nooooo
Where phone was made: No idea
Where battery was made: stock; no idea
Seems like a weakness somewhere on the motherboard. Mine died on charge about a month ago. No led no nothing bought in late May. New motherboard working fine. Hoping the problem is identified and fixed now and I don't have the same **** again in three months time.
My story started last Tuesday night. My S3 was working fine: used it as satnav getting to work for night shift and used it a few times at work until I checked it at approx 9:30pm (about three hours into shift) and it was dead - nothing would make it respond.
Got home next morning and my caring wife asks me if it's still the same - I dishearteningly relied that it was. Then she announces that hers was now dead! She had been using hers normally the night before, as I had. She had plugged it in to charge overnight and when she woke in the morning the green light was on, but she couldn't turn it on - she did battery pull, etc, but nothing would revive hers either.
Clearly something has killed our S3's, but not spontaneously as we were in different places at the time of failure. Mine had been happily charging whist I traveled to work and it had over 80% the last time I had noticed / used it before it died - my wife's just died on the charger overnight at our house.
Two dead S3's in the space of 9 hours and I have no idea why...
Both were stock unrooted international models purchased from carphone warehouse at the same time. Both had the recent JB update too (I did both via Kies when it was released).
The only common element I consider could be a cause is the charger we use in our house (but as mine died some time later after being used for several hours away from my house I really don't see any technical explanation for it).
I'm baffled - Carphone warehouse faults tracker now says they have fixed them both and they are awaiting dispatch to our store for collection - maybe they can then offer soom explanation of thefaults / causes.
Either way I reckon I'll bin the "common" charger as a "just in case"!
That's really odd that both yours and your wife's phones suddenly died at around the same time.
Do you share a charger?
Can let us know some details about both phones, where phones and batteries were made etc
It appears, from what I can gather, that it is a hardware fault. The ROM and kernel don't seem to matter. People's phones are dying regardless of which ROM they're running.
At least CPW have fixed both your phones for you
Maybe you could ask if they have had a few customers bringing back dead phones?
It'll be interesting to know what their technicians say about it.

What happened: Used as Satnav, it was charging on a 1A car charger, battery probably pretty full. Brought it in tried to turn it on and nothing happened. Had a white pulsing LED, after battery pull no reaction.
What ROM/Firmware: CM10
What kernel: Can't remember
OV or UV: Nope
Where phone was made:
Where battery was made: Standard battery but I do use a Anker battery as well, can't remember if it was in the phone at the time.
On the bright side, I have just got it back from Samsung who repaired it without question. They have also given me a 32GB model instead of the 16GB I had before.
Very happy dervish.
I know it is a hassle, but could people please post where their phone came from (language which was default on phone might be good, for example mine was Greek). Might allow us to isolate a particular region/batch

My 2 S3's were purchased at the same time from mobiles.co.uk (CPW) - English language by default, unlocked and with no network branding. I had not tampered with these devices in any way. They are totally stock handsets running JB (updated via Kies). They were only used with the Samsung chargers too. Mine had approx 100 apps on it, but my wife hardly had any on, just about twenty or so.
I'll update this page once I get them back so we can share the causes / fixes in my case
What happened:
Phone was charging on Zenis dock. Checked it at 95% and returned 1 hour later to find it stuck on Samsung boot screen. Had to remove battery to unfreeze it. Phone would not boot and stuck on Samsung screen. Would only boot into Download mode but would not accept any relash of OS via Odin. Reflash attempts met with Invalid PIT partition fault. Tried to reflash a PIT as advised on XDA but with no success. On connection to charger phone displayed grey battery graphic.
Handed into Samsung service centre who confirmed battery was completely dead and that new battery allowed phone to turn on but no ability to reload software. Phone now has been sent to Samsung in the UK
What ROM/Firmware:Stock T Mobile 4.1
What kernel: STOCK
OV or UV: Nope
Where phone was made: UK model bought in June 2012 from Mobiles.co.uk
Where battery was made: Dont Know
Phone is English language version and has run fine for months. It was updated via OTA to 4.1 about 2 weeks ago when Tmobile released the ROM. since then I re-rooted it but have never flashed any other ROM.
What happened: Picked up phone after its usual overnight charge , was showing the normal green "full charge" light but phone was completely dead - black screen, no download or recovery mode via key combo, no response to jig.
No self-reboot, freeze or anything that would indicate a problem prior to phone dying.
What ROM/Firmware: official UK ICS, (can't remember the firmware number now, but whatever the latest official UK unbranded was by mid-October)
What kernel: stock (rooted with cf-root)
OV or UV: Nope
Where phone was made: just says "made by Samsung"! UK sim-free, received 16th June
Where battery was made: Original Samsung battery. Made in Korea, assembled in Vietnam
Anything else that could be of use:
Always left my phones and other toys to charge overnight, been doing the same with the S3 since getting it on 16 June, using the Samsung charger that came with it. No longer doing that with the S3 just in case!
Phone came back with new innards, battery is the one the phone went in with.
As to really getting to the bottom of it, I guess only someone at Samsung might be able to tell us why so many S3 are committing suicide...

This is a stretch, but I wonder if Titanium could have anything to do with the bricking. I had an auto-backup scheduled in the middle of the night, after which the phone died. I don't know there's a connection, but interesting you mentioned TiBu.

I'm not sure if it's relevant but I checked the stock charging voltages on my S2 and it's a Wall:650Mah, USB:450.
The default on S3 is the same for USB(450Mah) but the wall charging voltage default is apparently 900Mah!
I know the battery is higher capacity but my S2 has a 2100Mah Samsung battery in it and charges just fine @ 650Mah.
Maybe 900Mah is just too high?
I'm no electronics expert so I could be talking rubbish but it's an idea.....

Where did you check the stock charging voltages bro? I experienced something almost to this effect except that I woke up this morning and the menu and return keys were lit up (screen was off) , tried pressing some buttons but nothing responded. I then long pressed the power key and then it booted up normally and since has been working ok. Was so worried and paranoid at the time! I'm from South Africa if it's any use. Just to make sure these scares/sudden death issues are not just in one continent/country.

Well it's not very scientific but I use Siyah Kernel on both my S2 and S3 and just checked the default settings on there.
Actually Gokhan states that the stock charging voltage for a wall charger on the S3 is 1000Mah! (Siyah default). But another member on here (an electronics professional) said it's 900Mah so I just went with that.
It might be over kill but to be on the safe side I have lowered the voltages in Stweaks down to 900Mah and 450Mah and I am only charging my phone through USB until we figure out what is causing this problem.
It seems that this issue is worldwide, it's not specific to country, Android firmware version, Kernel etc
It seems this is totally random and can happen without warning to anyone, scary stuff.

[HELP] Critical CPU glitch

Model: SM-N9005
Country: Unknown
Version: Android 4.3
Product Code: XSI
PDA: N9005XXUBMJ1 (previously N9005XXUBMI7)
CSC: N9005OJVBMI2
MODEM: N9005XXUBMJ1 (previously N9005XXUBMI6)
There is CPU-related glitch that I've experienced since I've bought the phone on the 25th of Sept. The bug existed in the out-of-the-box firmware as well as in the new MJ1 firmware. The reason I didn't bring this to light and seek advice earlier was because I wanted to wait for the first firmware update (which came) hoping that it would be fixed (which it wasn't).
Description of the glitch: The processor would go on a state where it would ONLY start utilizing CPU1,CPU2 and CPU3&4 would remain "offline" no matter how much stress is placed on the phone.
Symptoms: I can clearly see the phone is only utilizing two cores with any CPU monitor from the market (see screenshots below); phone gets hot much easier under heavy stress as all stress is being put on two cores instead of shared between four; benchmark scores drop by half (example: quadrant score is ~21,000-22,000 , it drops to ~12,000-13,000 once the processer goes into that state); some demanding games start to exhibit lag and choppiness.
How frequently does the processor go into this state: It sometimes happen once in a day. Sometimes it happens once in 2-3 days. As far as I know, it remains in this state unless and until I reboot the phone. I don't know how it's triggered.
How to temporarily resolve the problem: The only fix I came up with is to reboot the phone, whereby the issue disappears immediately once the phone boots up again (that is, until it comes back again in a couple of days).
Is the problem software related? Does the problem exist in other Note 3 firmware?: I'm betting it is a firmware rather than a hardware related issue, otherwise the problem would not go away with a simple reboot. I don't know if the issue exists in firmware other than mine. It's probably not wide-spread, since I haven't seen it reported by anyone else. This is the reason I created this thread, to bring awareness to other people as well as to hopefully get help from someone more knowledgeable about this kind of thing on how to go about to get rid of this issue (the temporary fix is easy enough, but I don't want to bother with rebooting my phone every other day for one year.)
Could some root application be causing this?: Nope. The issue occurred before rooting or modifying the phone in any way, it's still present now that I have rooted it.
Other things to note, power saving is OFF always. I never turn it on. I don't have any application that could restrict, under-clock or otherwise modify how the phone or processor operate in any way.
I have attached screenshots below of when the processor is operating normally, and when the processor goes into the utilizing-only-two-cores state.
Applications used: Stability tester [to put stress on the processor], System Monitor [..to monitor the CPU, obviously]
Do you have to leave the monitors running many hours to catch this issue or does it occur quickly after reboot?

It happens so randomly and sporadically. I can go for 3 straight days without reboot and without the problem happening. I don't keep flying cpu monitors active all the time, I just opened them for the sake of taking the screen shots.

I had just noticed this on my exynos note 3 today, at least it may have been the same issue im not sure yet. For the second half of the day the touchwiz interface and several apps were noticeably laggy, not a huge deal but compared to what it should be. It was working at about the speed you expect from a midrange phone. Nothing special was running, I cleared all apps from memory but it made no difference. I restarted and it has gone, but if it happens again i will be sure to check how many/which cpu cores are running. I have rooted it but no other modifications.
Come to think of it chrome was lagging like a ***** all of a sudden the other night too... I was tired and went to bed without investigating further though. Perhaps that was the same thing as today, which could be the same thing you have...

[BATTERY/CHARGING] Nexus 4 Issue

Hey XDA,
I am contact you all concerning a issue I've been having with my Nexus 4, The issue resolves around charging and the battery from what I have gather( well affects ),
I have had the phone since the 15th of November 2012, It has never lasted long on its battery even with a stock ROM, I am currently using Paranoid Android ( 4.4 AOSP ),
The ROM is working flawlessly yet, I don't believe that is causing the battery or charging issue, The issue which I am experiencing is extremely slow charging and rapidly depleting charge.
The first think I decided to check was the battery stats/log in the settings, I came across a very odd result.
Here is a screenshot of what a saw.
Can't post links:[ If a moderator could image tag them it would be great:]
puu<dot>sh/5k5rm.jpg
puu<dot>sh/5k5sh.jpg
As you can see there is a very wierd spike, I don't know what this is yet I believe it may have caused the condition of my battery to be affected dramatically,
I then decided to check the hidden diagnostics for info on my battery
puu<dot>sh/5k5KO.jpg
As you can see that all seems fine, Hence why I have came to ask the geniuses of XDA for any advice, suggestions or ideas to what the issue is or was.

I'm experiencing exactly the same thing, only just started last night. I'm still on 4.2.2 (CRDroid) so can't be rom/kernel related. Maybe app/play store related?

Maybe, Yet If it was a app it would show up in the battery stats:l
Man why does Google always kill the older Gen. Like tons of people had huge problems with the Nexus S when the 4 came out the phone just died like 100s of people's nexus S didn't even power on. I think Google does so shady things behind the scenes...

Overheating and possibly fake Note 4 SM-N910C n910CXXU1BOC5 ?

hi, i just bought this from off of Expansys and received it today. After using it for a few mins (playing around with the settings, installing apps, etc..) I notice phone gets kinda warm. I waited until the phone felt like room temperate, but right after i used it again, it's the is feeling warm again. I did 2 benchmarks from Antutu and 3Dmark and both r reporting that my phone is underperforming and i took some pictures of the temperatures. At one point it was reporting 80 C, but it felt the same same it was like 40 C. Is my phone normal or defective? what should i do? Also, should i try installing the 5.1.1 OTA update to see if that fixes it? the phone is currently on 5.0.1 (or something similar)

S8 newly bought, rises to 70C under load and idles at 40C? (158 F and 107 F)?

Hello, I just bought an S8 as an upgrade from my beloved S6E+. when I firt turned it on the phone was on 55% I started using smart switch to transfer stuff from my old cellphone over WIFI (over 10gb of stuff) while the phone was updating from the playstore and downloading a software update and updating galaxy apps (too many stuff) I felt the phone getting really warm then it became HOT not uncomfortably but very very noticeable.,I downloaded an app to see the temp. and it reported 59 C for the CPU and 42 for the Battery. then it jumped to 69C for the CPU and 47 for the processor. I waited till everything finished, updated the sofware and reststed. it idled at 42 - 45 C.
I live in a hot country and the outside temprature was 38 C. but my S6E+ never reached such temperatures, and I don't want to bring any drama but the whole Note7 thing is making me paranoid about using the phone while its hot like that. so is this normal??
1. The fact that you're living in a hot country matters. Its a factor. Coz apparently ambient temperatures affects the feel of materials such as glass or Aluminium. So take note of that.
2. You've said it yourself, you made the phone go through a hell doing stuff all at once. Let it settle. Give it days, maybe weeks.
3. If after all that you're still experiencing the overheating,then it could be;
a)Just a software hitch which could be fixed by a simple factory reset or software update.
b) If someone else report the same issue, then it could be a common issue with the phone
c) If no one reports similar issue and yours persist, then you probably have a defective unit, and you should consider replacing it.
