LG G2- Fast Battery Drain Problem - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Battery Issue
Hello
I know there are many threads about battery life, but those threads did not help me. So my problem is fast battery drain, such as, when I'm checking ez pz rpg for like 5-7 mins the battery reduced by 5%-10% and the back of the phone is warm (like 35°C), when my battery was at 77% I started watching a video (2:45h length) and haven't finished cause for the last 20 mins of video battery went to 5%. I will add my battery is not draining when a screen is off, sometimes when a batter is lower than 100% it can self-charge like 1%-2%. I got that phone 10 days ago so still can send it back, but my question is if it is necessary or I can fix it somehow?

Any idea?

Faulty battery perhaps

Hmm... dunno then. Battery is ok while screen is off, battery is still at 100% after 6 hours of screen off.
For example my system is running 19h 52mins, Phone Radio ate 13% in 19h 50m 27s, screen 27% in 1h 7m 24s and the "ez pz rpg" ate 12% in 13mins its like 1% per 1 min ... i can show GSam Battery Monitor screens. There is a chance it is not a battery? Maybe cpu have to high timing, 4x 2,2GHz all the time while playing. Can it be?

Hey man.I have the same peoblem over here.Though i have done a lot system changing stuff on my precious lg i am pretty sure the problem is somewhere in the hardware.Did you somehow fix your problem?

How old are your LG G2?
After 3 years batteries usually reach their end the lifecycle.

Q. battery question

Is anyone experiencing weird issues with battery before recharging? i had 2 days phone on batt and 3hrs screen on. It was at 53 % before i decided to charge. I fully charged it and now im losing 10% every hour even with phone on idle. Its weird cause every other charge will last a long time.

Yeah, I'm still stock on this phone and I'm getting inconsistent battery life. I usually charge every night, so I'm running about 16-17 hours per day. Almost identical usage each day but one day I'll plug in with 45-50% remaining and the next it will be dead when i plug in. Very odd. I'm going to root this thing just so I can get rid of the bloat apps. Well, that may not be the only reason I root. I may be compelled to put some AOSP on this and see how it rocks it.
well i don`t really recommend to ROOT stock rom, it caused for me a battery drain ! also KitKat known for drain issue even on Pure android on Nexus 5. I don`t really know a fix but i`d give u some tip and it might help
1. Re-flash D80020c
2. After re-flash do a factory reset
3. Don`t root or mod your OS
4. Turn off Sync or Location Service (or set to battery saver mode)
i did those steps and i have 34 hour on battery:
3 Hour screen on time (and about 30-40 min gaming in this 3 hour)
Left about 49%
i hope i helped a little
Potential solutions:
Have a look in Settings > General > Battery and see what seems to be using the most power. You could have a problem app that’s using GPS or trying to update frequently. If you can identify the culprit then you can remove it.
There’s a slim chance you have a faulty handset. If adjusting your usage and tweaking settings doesn’t’ result in any improvement then take your LG G2 back to the retailer or carrier and get a replacement.

I always have location turned off with all bloatware rwmoved. I honestly think you have to drain it to about 20% then charge. Cause i never have problems when i do that. Gonna try and drain it out again and recharge and see what happens then.
Are you having issues on KitKat out jellybean?

Its kitkat,it says rooted d80020c in my signature. Well here is my latest results. Left it on overnight and was at 53% with data off. Checked it this morning and everything was back to normal again no battery drain or low estimated battery times.weird cause i charged it around this percentage. I think you have to take it down to at least 20 before charging will find out later today when i charge.

well i really not heard about Deep sleep drain but while idle it`s drains bit faster then JB, with jb i could get max 40 hour and about 6hr screen on time and + 10-15% battery while on KK i can get 42 hour but about 5 hr and 45 min screen on time with 0% battery it`s seems a bit problem for 4.4.2 i think Google will fix it and hopefull we`ll get new update from AT&T if this prob will fixed
P.S i saw that if battery at 100%, overnight it won`t fall to 99 but while battery is on below 100% it drains about 1-2 % overnight is that a known prob?

2% overnight is pretty good, given that it's on WIFI I'm assuming?
I lost 25% overnight last night when I was off WIFI, so I factory resetted mine.
Took it down to 20% and discharged and its fine. Im guessing its a bug, but, easy fix just take the battery down to 20% or lower before charging

The Batterylife Thread

Hey folks. What about a Thread for comparing the Batterylife of our Nexus 9. When I finish my first cycle, I'll upload the result of it. So far it looks like I'm getting less Screen-on-time compared to my Nexus 10 (well, with customrom/kernel).
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 9 mit Tapatalk 4
Battery needs a few cycle to be great. Mine is in pace for 5hrs ost but with time I expect a lot more
If my battery keeps doing whats it doing
I will get 8h screen time
Oops wrong thread.
Not even on first cycle yet and very impressed so far!
My first cycle was terrible with less than 5 hours screen on time. The second one seems to be doing much better so far. I'll report back once I drain the battery.
Mine got stuck in 86% and wouldn't charge past that after being plugged in for 2 hours. Just unplugged it and replugged and now seems to be charging fine again.
Awake all the time?
I have a 32GB Black Nexus 9. My battery life so far is not great - it is trending towards about 5 hours. But I noticed that in the battery stats page, it says that it is awake with the screen off. Anyone know if this is correct or how to fix? Thanks in advance!
5hr OST and its still 38%
Here is mine
My battery seems to be averaging around 5 to 6 hours. Hopefully another update can fix this and maybe fix the heat issue. The SoC seems to average around 40C when I'm just readng XDA...

Don't get me wrong but, posting SoT's like these means jack **** when all you do is nothing but leave the tablet with the screen on.
1% youtube?
2% chrome?
1% mx?
Really? And you're proud you did 7h SoT's?
I'm sorry and I hope I'm wrong but this tablet's battery will be a disapointment.
Whoever bought a N9 will be a guinea pig for future 64bit Android devices.

This is definitely a bug! After seeing USBhost's graph I rebooted and it is no longer showing awake with the screen off this morning. I should be trending to much higher battery life today. Perhaps this is the cause of why some people have great battery life and others not so much.

All I used it was for studying on Study blue. Its still was being used
I hope they will change the orange battery warning its looks hideous...
I got about 5 hours SOT before I put it on charge with 7% left.
I hope it gets better!
I am on my second charge since using the unit - charged to 100%. I am using it for web browsing etc. While I am in the office I am leaving it on with Plants Vs Zombies 2 running. The unit is moderately hot.
I know it is not very scientific, but between that and using it for browsing and youtube when I can I hope it gives people somewhat of an idea as to what they can expect. I will obviously have better results when the weekend gets here and I can use it more regularly. When I finish the testing today I will post screenshot results of what drained the battery as well as SOT.
5 hours of on screen time would be a deal breaker for me, I get easily 8 on my Nexus 7...Damn I really wanted this tablet too.

My battery life is bad

Remove all apps you don't need. Install wakelock detector to see what is consuming battery on your device Then disable them using greenify or servicely . You can also run this script http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/guide-reducing-google-play-services-t3139032 .
Remove extra bloatware , avoid using wifi , reduce screen brightness .. or go back to kitkat.
I would rather suggest to change your battery dude, 2 years for a mobile battery is more than enough.
Only apps was installed on my device is WhatsApp, facebook, Instagram and Greenify.
Yesterday I downgrade to KitKat and the battery very bad (Cloudy 2.2)
Same problem here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/lg-g2-d802-battery-draining-5-0-2-t3256313/
I also got bad battery life with all LG lollipop rom and stock kitkat , but I get terrific battery life with cloudy g2 2.2. Like 6.5 hours of SOT. Just make sure you clean flash and reduce background app by clearing recent apps.
Are there any apps that show the battery Wear level

6.5 hours?!?! Are you sure?
1.5 to 2 hours of SOT is the most I can get out of my two-week-old G2.
I bought is from a "mobile shop" on aliexpress.
Yes, it is refurbished... ,it looked like brand new on the outside.
... however, when I disconnect it from the charger in the morning (7 am) a few hours, and a few phone calls later it is already at 85%
at noon there is 65% left.
at the evening - somewhere around 22h - the battery usually dies completely ...
14-15 hours of usage on battery... NO games, NO Youtube videos.
Max 30 minutes browsing the news (on WiFi)... and an hour of phone calls (city center, so no problem with reception...)
When the screen is on (btw. I set it to 70% brightness) I can literally see the battery percentage indicator decrease every few minutes...
Looks like I got a phone with bad battery... didn't I?
I'm on KitKat (4.4.2 stock) D802 version...
I had this problem on my freedompop(sprint) "refurbished" phone. Even though it looked like new on the outside, I would only get 2-3hrs sot. After replacing the battery I now get more than double that. Factory reset, disable/uninstall the apps you don't need, and only install the apps you do need. If you still get bad battery life then the only option is a new battery.
Btw, a custom rom will NOT give you significantly better sot unless it severely cuts performance and lcd brightness.

Well if you are using kitkat then i must say you got a faulty or old old battery . G2 on kitkat is/was a beast , I can recall those days when i used to get 7+ hrs sot on kitkat . you should call or email to your seller and tell them the problem you are facing.
After sorting through potential power draining apps etc.. You could try a battery calibrator of some sort. I used one and a big difference noticed, however after it's fully charged in the morning I take it off the charger and leave it sit there for at least 30 mins without touching it and battery life is even better.
Thank you all for your answers.
In the mean time I installed this Battery Monitor Widget.... and it gives me some "interesting" readings:
1. my phone charges ridiculously fast. From 37% to 100% in 70-80 minutes... Connected to the charger at 00:04. At 01:14 it was already at 99% (This widget gathers info every 10 minutes)
https://goo.gl/photos/DDerdsk2mSdKipMt7
...and it charges with an insane amount of current (over 2100 mA)
https://goo.gl/photos/VJd7iUFMm5A4s3UeA
2. there are some kind of "spikes" in battery usage, but after a few minutes the battery seems to recover...
this is the battery voltage statistics:
https://goo.gl/photos/Uh96utz1aBJNV3qCA
So, It is more and more evident, I got a faulty battery...
Now, only if I could know where to buy a GENUINE LG battery...
Aliexpress is full of "shops" claiming they are selling "original" LG batteries, however there are quite a few negative reviews about them... (batteries are lighter, thinner, deteriorating fast... etc.)

#Screen takes 60+ % of battry😡

I think I am the only one whose half, more than half battery drains by #screen only?? I have googled many times and applied all those tips but didnt work I use my phone in 0 brightness and the screen timeout is also 5 sec and even in reading mode. But battry drains so fast, It decreases #2% of charge in #3 minutes. Please help me to fix this.. PH Model: I9505 XXUGNH6!

Completely normal. The screen uses power. If you want it to drain less, then leave the screen off.
It's normal...
Check whether your battery is swollen or not. I just replaced mine yesterday. Before that my battery usage due to screen was pretty high and now its about 16%. I assume that you are not using extra display features.
All the best!
My battry.. Its around 8 month old #GDReaper
#Mandark52, Its not swollen anywhere. AND I am also planning to get another one
#No_offence!! But I dont think 60% by screen is not normal..

Sure it's normal. You are running Kitkat thus that means the battery usages is calculated in the following way.
If your battery is at 90% then for example it will show you this:
- Screen 90 %
- Android OS 10 %
It's calculated of the the missing 10%.
The screen uses a lot of power so if you have it on all the time then 60% perfectly normal. Based on your 2% discharge in 3 minutes it will be around 2,5 hours of screen on time. That's perfectly normal for the S4. Nothing wrong with your phone. The battery life of the S4 just sucks.
Hehe. If so ok but will this improve if i purchase new battry??

My SOT now is 3hrs 52 mins and my battery is 18% .
Remove the bloody screen and then check how much the battery works.
Obv the SCREEN TAKES UP MOST OF THE BATTERY. 60% is fine.
Rest..you can do ATM is use a good debloated custom ROM, use better battery saving techniques than just screen and stuff and tell us uour SCREEN ON TIME.
My screen is taking upto 50%.
Dont hype. Stay calm. A new battery wont do much good.
Hehe.. okok now I am feeling good cuz others like you also have 50+ means mine also normal haha.. ??

One plus 2 drain battery at night!

Hi Guys,
I have a problem that happens to my OPT over and over again.
At night the battery drain is crazy! i was charging the phone and go to sleep with 100%, and in the next morning it was 91%.
I saw a guide that says to delete the cache of the phone but it was helping but only for a while .
I cant flash a ROM into my OPT cause i still have Manufacturer Warranty.
Please tell me if there is an other solution for this
Thanks,
Afik
Same thing Happened on my phone too..
same here
but thers some battery calibration issue from what i know
so it should not affect your SOT or your use-time
Did you turn on Airplane Mode? If not 9% through a nicht with aprox. 8 hours is pretty damn good. For more advice pls post Screenshots and log of Better Battery Stats.
If you unplugged the phone it's a nice standby drain.
Plugged in??? Faulty cable or charger

A drain of 1,125%/h is pretty good? 9% over 8 hours?
Hi,
It should not be like that especially with this huge battery capacity, during the night i never charge my phone it always stay next to my bad without connected to my charger, and my Airplane Mode is always off.
Only my WiFi is on during the night,it sometimes its drain only 5% and sometimes more than 5%, the last oxygen is sucks the version before was better.....
1-2% per Hour is pretty good. Trust me. If you want to take a deeper look in what causrs your "drain" look into Better Battery Stats and post some screenshots. A bit more Input would be nice too. Which Kernel do you use with which Settings? Xposed or not?
Unplugged state idle drain between 1-2% untouched stock rom is very good.
Also is normal for my phone to sometimes stays longer at 100% once unplugged.
For the long story read this
