[Q] Has anyone attached an external harddrive via USB connector

I've been considering purchasing a WD portable harddrive for watching movies with my Tab 10.1. I haven't got my hands on a USB connector yet, so I'm not sure if this functionality is built into HC or a file manager. Just curious if anyone has had success with this; and if so, are you able to watch movies off the harddrive?
Thanks!
*BUMP* - OK, so no one has attached a portable 1tb harddrive full of blu-rays converted to MP4 (this would have been my first priority had I been able to purchase the usb connector... lil' bag + tablet + HardDrive + XBox controller = short flight)
What about using the usb connector thats included with a female-to-female usb adapter to access an external HD or use a XBox controller? I'll probably get an adapter later this week and let you all know if this is plausible/possible.

My boss tried using the gender changing USB adapter with no luck. It won't power the device through the USB. Maybe if the hard drive w as externally powered it would work?

AFAIK the USB adaptor isn't available yet

Kindle Fire support USB on-the-go?

Can I buy an otg cable to read external memory cards or external Bluetooth USB? Or does kindle fire support MHL tv output? Using micro-USB to have tv out features?

I've been curious about this as well, and there are several threads on Amazon.com regarding this. So far, there haven't been any successful reports in getting the Kindle recognizing an external USB device - in other words, no evidence of USB host support, as far as I know.
wondering OTG function need the hardware support or driver support?
Nope, not working on mine.
Hardware-wise, it looks like it should, and there seems to be a way to get the battery charger to kick power out the USB connector.
Has anyone tried external memory to Kindle Fire to check if OTG feature is present or not..??

He wants to know if he can like connect to his phone and share data via the micro usb port. I don't have a mini to mini adapter, so I have no way to test.
not only share the data, also want to know if can use this port to connect some usb devices when I use the convert cable to make micro usb to a normal usb port.

Why would you want to? It already has a built in full size USB port. Why do you need another one? If you need multiple ports at once, you can just use a hub. I've done that before.

I'm also interested in this, for the 'why' the answer is speed, I want to connect an SD card reader and transfer files from that to an external HDD using a hub would mean, probably, half speed, unless there is an SD to microSD adapter/cable thingy

If you use a high quality USB 2.0 hub, there won't be any speed degradation. That's not how USB works. So use a hub in the USB port and use all the connected devices that you want.

USB OTG & HDMI together causing Issue

I have connected my hard drive using a OTG cable to my nexus10 and am able to play video files using bsplayer perfectly. If I then connect my tablet to my TV using the HDMI port and play the same video it stutters and jumps and even stops sometimes. Has anyone else tried this and had the same result or maybe know what the cause might be.
