Saw this new OS by Jolla called Sailfish, it is a Linux bases OS that shares the mer core that was used by MeeGo. So far from what I can tell it is going to be completely open source and will be able to run android apps. I just wanted to post this here to see if there would be anyone willing to try and get this onto the G2x. I don't know if it is possible but if it could be done I would be willing to do whatever to help it get done as I think this is a really cool OS with a different UI and real multitasking.

i'm very interested in this os. Saw the presentation at the live stream wednesday and follow the developement for a while. Here some things i found. Hope this helps.
It is meego/mer based.
The bridge to android is, that the Appstore of google is ported to sailfish os.
There will be a support for ST Ericsson devices. I'm wondering on which devices it will be ported.
The developers are making commercial to the manufacturers with the statement, that they are able to port the system to any device within three days. So there should be good possobiloties for dev's.
The source Code should be available right now, but i couldn't find it. There is a wiki site on sailfishos.org .
Hope there are some people that will try to port it.

I like what they are doing A LOT. I was organizing the #Slush12 conference and got to see their stuff very well. It's great, amazing IMO! We will also ahve a hack day with them on 1st of December, exploring the Sailfish SDK (check http://sailfishos.org ) so if anyone here wants to come to Finland........ http://mobiledevcamp.fi
Anyways, yeah, it's based on MeeGo/Mer and uses Nemo as the base for GUI - but the UI is completely different. There are also many other things that differ and will differ in the future from Mer base but at the moment there isn't too much in there. And since a device will be launched in Summer 2013 there is still a lot they need to work on. It's going to be open source and it will support a very broad range of CPU's. I might even be able to get it on my old HTC Magic....hmmmmm....gotta see about that. They had dozens of devices there at the event they had put it running on, including N950's, (I think an N9 too), some ST-Ericsson development devices, Raspberry Pi boards (!!!!!!) and then some others. Wow. They all seem to be tweakers & hackers like us

Google's Play Store won't officially be ported for Sailfish OS, but instead I believe some people here at XDA will port the APK though there is no guarantee it works. Anyways, they will be run through Myriad's stuff.
The ST-Ericsson stuff means that they are supporting Jolla with dev boards and that their boards can and will be used on at least some Jolla devices.

I like all that is being said here and hope we could get some skilled developers on this, the SDK is out though I do not have the link for it right here. I will look around for it.

If it is possible to somehow port this over to our g2xs then why hasn't it been done with meego? Obviously ICS isn't coming, but if this does make it here somehow, then i might just hold on to this phone . If it doesn't then it will be a choice between the nexus 4 and the jolla phone. My brother has the N9 with meego on it, and the sad part is that he can run and android emulator with ICS perfectly, while we're stuck with out roms . For those of you who have not had the opportunity to play around with a linux phone, i highly suggest you do. If you look at the N9 specs compared to the G2X specs it looks weaker, but don't be fooled. the meego system can do much more with less. Anyways sorry for rambling on.

Hi guys,
it's been a while since I've been here, but I have been following Jolla and their new OS, Sailfish.
I own a Nokia N9, got it 2nd hand on Ebay, mint condition.
First thing I wanted to do was upgrade the software/firmware, but it'd already been done by the previous owner.
Version PR1.3 (MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan), apparently, this last update came with a 1000 improvements!
Having come from using a Nokia N8 with Symbian's latest Belle Refresh, I find the N9 a bit less intuitive.
No alphanumeric keypad with T9 support, just QWERTY keypads that do support T9 and of course Swype, which is a joke on such a small keypad.
There are a variety of free softwares available for the N9, some don't work at all or require tweaking to make them run.
Video playback is absolutely horrendous, whatever format is being played, drops frames like mad and goes out of sync quite rapidly (not so much with streamed videos).
Also, there is no direct access to the 'user storage', a 3rd party 'explorer' is required to access it, how ridiculous and too boot, there is also not 16GB of storage, it's nearer 9GB as the MeeGo OS and included 'non removable' bloatware hogs all the valuable storage!
Anyway, I could ramble on about loads of little niggles with the N9 and the 'wonderful' MeeGo O/S which could have been a winner with more development.
Here's hoping that Jolla can deliver a breath of fresh air for the N9 users out there, which will NOT be supported by Jolla, it will be a community effort that will bring Sailfish to the N9 and other handsets.
All I 'd like is a nice alphanumeric keypad with T9 support in a 4x3 format, thanks! 8)
All said and done, the N9 has a lot of appeal with its glossy curvy finish, but, MeeGo, well, it's gotta go and Sailfish needs deliver!, if not, it's back on Ebay for my N9!!

No it isn't.
Sailfish OS was made by people who got fired from Nokia and made their own company called Jolla. They are going to introduce their own phone running the Sailfish OS in few months.

Can't say I am excited about this neither as a developer nor as a consumer/enthusiast.
The ones interested in ports can follow this blog, there are instructions for some devices and boards already(Cubox, Snowball, Galaxy Nexus, ...): sagestechblog dot blogspot dot fi
The instructions are for Nemo Mobile that is basically Sailfish core(Mer) with a UI done by the community, when all Jolla Sailfish bits are released the setup should not differ much.
I love the idea and enthusiasm of Jolla but I can't see it succeeding especially with full out Ubuntu on mobile now. Shame too, because I loved MeeGo, especially on a netbook.

Well, Ubuntu is not out yet. And announcing Ubuntu OS do not miraculously make it be an interesting choice or available everywhere. And even after that, you still have to choose between two UI that are really different.
(Personnaly, my choice goes to Sailfish)
So, with the recent news of a port of Sailfish to the Nexus 4, I've been thinking. Does anyone know what it would take to port this OS? Does anyone here know the system well enough to be able to describe what it would entail to port this to another Nexus device, like the Nexus 5?
To clarify, I'm not asking anyone else to port the OS (though if someone would like to, that's fine), because I'm more than happy to do the work for it. I've just never actually ported anything like a completely new OS, so I don't know what it would involve and I'd like it if someone explained or even gave a rough outline of what would need to be done.

I tried to do that a few weeks back but didn't have time to hunt down all the problems I had.

There's a rough guide in one entry. Basically you need to build CM from source, apply libhybris patches and then set up Mer on top of it. When you get Mer running it should be easy to install Sailfish packages. Libhybris is a compatibility layer for Android drivers to work on normal linux. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I had troubles with building Mer image for my device. In the video you mentioned it looks like the whole patch+Mer+ sailfish packages is this second prepared zip he flashes.

Not yet; I've been busy working with other things. Though it looks like we're in pretty good shape so far because the recent Ubuntu Touch builds have been getting doing some good work for Mer on the Nexus 5, so hopefully we can use that progress. I just haven't found the time to work on this yet, unfortunately.

I think SF is a really promising OS more so than Firefox is, tizen, and I think more polished than Ubuntu phone. I can't wait to start developing for it so I really want to port it when I get my laptop back. Nice thing is if you use Qt you can basically just write one app that will natively run on Ubuntu and SailFish

I agree completely. It's sad that it hasn't seen a bigger leap in development, but I hope that it'll pick up sooner rather than later. I was just reading earlier today about Qt, which is pretty nifty if you ask me. Hopefully I'll find some time this week to actually make progress on it.

I tweeted Jolla asking if there was now an arm image within the SDK instead of just a x86 one and they told me that there is so that will take care of one major issue.

As mentioned in the title we need to do something about all the 5.1 lollipop issues we have right now with our beloved tegra note 7.
If we all stick together now and show nvidia that we need there help, that we might get enough attention to get most (if not all) of the problems solved we have right now.
My idea is basically nothing else than just contacting Nvidia together and state our issues. NOT just on their nvidia tegra facebook page or whatever.
we all should take a few minutes to contact them everywhere possible. ONLY on sites which are related to the Tegra Note 7 of course.
we don't want to create unnessecary spam threads on sites which aren't related to the TN7.
so, here are some links to some a few pages where you can leave a post stating some of your issues you have with the 5.1 update:

I get the impression that NV is done supporting their Tegra 4 hardware. Go look at the Shield Portable forum and see the same complaints. This hardware is getting pretty old now.
I do wish it had been more popular and attracted some custom ROM developers.

Sadly they don't have a real support page for tegra note 7 (at least i can't see any).
so in this case i will just "invade" (not literally ) their Shield Portable support via live chat and talk to them as long as it is needed until i get a satisfying answer.
i know this might be kind of a "strange" move to make. but i won't just sit here and let nvidia do that to us. so i will try any possibility that it takes to get noticed by nvidia.
AND it still would be pretty nice if all the ppl that viewed this thread without even replying to it, would at least help us reaching out to nvidia because right now there are only a few that try to help. AND we need more people for that.

It's like their tech support reps, except they're a little more involved. Already dealt with one on their site, and he was very helpful and responsive. Most replies were within just a couple hours. Seems like these guys actually use the hardware they support, and don't treat the users like idiots. Nice to see this, especially since they just laid off most of their phone division. Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come. This phone is a beast.

That is essentially it! Thank you for the kind words, I'll be sure to pass it on to the team. We definitely do use the hardware we help with and for me personally the Razer Phone is my specialty but we all have experience with most Razer products.
I think there are two main things I would like to see:
1. Earlier factory images and the release of ota updates. It would be nice for those who have yet to get pie, for example.
2. Though I realize it's unlikely, the release of the device tree would really be a big boost to rom and kennel development

On another note. The sources we have currently had a lot of header/build issues. As other Devs have pointed out(elsewhere) this was probably due to the sources being built out of the device tree but they still seemed weird as I've never seen that before and can't make out how a device tree would have changed that. Would it be too much to ask that some time be taken to scrub the sources better and maybe even have some basic build scripts or instructions? I realize this is contrary to my first point but it's the next best thing to a device tree.

Now I'm not a gamer, just got a used RP1 from a moderator on the Swedroid forum quite by accident, as it were.
I really quite like it, the Sharp IGZO screen especially, same as on my Xiaomi Mi Mix1, which was the main reason I got it.
I have had zero problems with it so far.

+1 having the full image will save us a lot of time and will expedite the creation of mod ROM.

I was informed this is how all new MSM kernels are - they don't build properly out of the AOSP tree (it looks like Android's build system supplies some additional flags to the kernel make system to make it use some prebuilts and AOSP headers over the kernel-provided ones). I don't think this is unique to Razer, since it's a Qualcomm thing.
I've got build instructions for the kernel in my thread too if you need them.
Of course, I could be relaying incorrect information but this does seem like it's typical of Google/Qualcomm to be changing Open Source projects to fit their internal needs...

Can you guys get in contact with CurtisMJ on this forum and see about implementing his amazing Chroma logo alternative app, integrating features of it with the current Chroma logo app, or otherwise allowing us non-root users to systemize it?

It has a lot of features I want from the Chroma app, but I'm weary of rooting, especially now that Android 9 Pie has come out and no factory images for 9 Pie are on the Razer dev site. If you even wanted to put it in the next update and give users the option of which Chroma app they wanted to use, I'm sure CurtisMJ would think that was pretty neat, though you'd have to ask him. I mean, I'd personally pay to use it if it meant I didn't have to root. Interestingly I did see some code in the Chroma app which can grant use of the service to unprivileged apps. I think it was used to whitelist some other Razer component. Just opening up that functionality to users so they can "grant" Chroma access to apps of their choosing might be enough. Otherwise, if I could get a signed stub in the next OTA that'd be cool (and ridiculously unlikely, just to be clear)

Yeah, coming from my Samsung S8+, LDAC is the thing I'm missing the most.

That's my goal atm to get the developers points of view and requests I'm proud of the community helping each other out so this is my next focus.
So far my feedback list has faster Factory images, and source code, device tree, more Audio Codec (APT-X AND LDAC) and a couple of other things I can't get into.
If anyone else thinks of anything lmk and I'll add it to my list to send on. I hope the right person sees it but again there is zero assurances that any of it will happen but this is where the voices matter.

Might be a little off topic, but since this is a gaming phone, why can't I pair my old ps3 controller? I even tried an old usb Xbox 360 controller, which a usb host test app successfully found the device. I would have hoped this would have been built in, being a gaming phone and all. I'm on pie and rooted, even when trying multiple previous methods of trying to get something the work, all the phone wants to do is charge the connected device.

Unfortunately the PS3 controller doesn't connect and act like a good Bluetooth or USB device. There is an app called sixaxis controller on the play store that allows you to connect a PS3 controller via Bluetooth, but it needs root and I don't believe it works anymore. There's also an app for wired PS3. It's not a Razer issue, it's a controller issue.

Right, I tested it all. That app gets to the part where it tries to pull the Mac of the phone's Bluetooth adapter and simply can't. I'm leaning more towards the an Oreo/Pie issue. Seems to be driver related.

I'm looking for some suggestions on hardware for a little project of mine.
I recently got my hands on a few Dynalink TV Boxes after discovering the great support of LineageOS on them here in the forum. Sadly, after some testing with the hardware I got, they seem to be off the market - out of stock everywhere since new year...
So, I'm looking for an alternative. Preferably in the same price range (30-40 bucks) and form factor and able to be flashed with Lineage or another clean ROM.
FireTV Stick Lite seemed promising, same price and decent performance out of the box. Sadly Amazon locked those very hard lately so there is currently no use for them.
I got a "Q96 Stick" of AliExpress but that thing is shady, lacks of performance and there seems to be no custom roms available soon.
So is there anything you could suggest?
Small, price around 30-40, Custom Rom available (Android 10+) or has clean stock OS, no need to be Android TV. No need for Netflix and other DRM stuff.
The project is a small digital signage, I just need to figure the hardware since the Dynalink boxes seems decommissioned.
PS: Idk if I got the right section of the forum, please be gentle.
Well I can't recommend one in that price range BUT be very careful, there's a huge thread on here about cheap android boxes that have built-in bot nets so be wary. They might even live in the system after flashing idk just be careful getting cheap android boxes

Yea I've heard that and that's why I'm very suspicious about this q96 Stick, stock OS is rooted, adb is active and don't ask for permission on new connections, it lies about it's specs and so on, so there is definitely something baked in deep.
On the Dynalink Box I don't sense a thread and idk I such would survive the flashing?
FireTV would be the best option, but not with the lockdown...

The tv box devices for which there are lineage builds are listed in the lineage thread. Most of those devices are dated, eol, or discontinued.
Why is lineage support important for your digital signage project? There are other similar S905Y2 and S905Y4 certified tv box devices that can be bootloader unlocked and rooted, but there are not lineage builds for these devices. Is root not enough? Your digital signage project also requires lineage?

No, Lineage is not required, a clean OS is. It has not to be Lineage. It would be a "nice to have".
If the stock one is clean or can be cleaned I'll be happy.
Clean is maybe the wrong term, more like trustable and somewhat up to date.
Root is also not required but would be nice.
What boxes are you talking about?

The way to get a clean build is to stay away from the generic boxes that have hobbled together mobile builds, and instead choose a certified device. In the tv box world, this means a device for which the ultimate oem is one of a few chinese manufacturers; sei, askey, or sdmc.
The nebula 4k streaming dongle (amazon B098BFDB41) has the same specs as the dynalink, but it is 49.99 US. It also uses the s905y2, which is on its way out. The nebula device runs android 10 and is made by sdmc.
The homatics lite 4k (amazon B0BNL1YS7V) has a s905y4 and 16gb storage, but it is 59.99 US. This device runs android 11 and is made by sei. In some ways the s905y4 is not quite as powerful as the s905y2 that it replaces, but the y4 does support av1.
The hako mini (amazon B0BFW3MMKJ) is the sdmc version of the homatics device. It is also 59.99 US.
The above devices often go on sale on amazon.
Okay that's a guideline.
If the SoC are on their way out that could mean there might be a successor for it and therefore for the Dynalink box (wich is made by Askey)
So I'll be patient and look at upcoming devices and also wait for an update on the locked FireTVs.
I still wonder, and don't meant to be rude or offensive, the marked is flooded with those cheap Allwinner based boxes and sticks but there is rarely an interest in this community on them? Why is that? Sure they're probably spiced with malware and what not but the hardware is cheap and available.
I don't know. I think the allwinner 616 is a junky cpu. Some of the others might be better. They aren't all that cheap.

Yea I looked into that and was already monitoring the stick I got - nothing weird so far, at least on the network.
But still weird behavior with ADB and the fact it came rooted. Also spoofed specs like ram and storage.
