Another point to note is its not app crash but looks like hardware because it was not allowing other app to use camera

bugs i have noticied

So i got this beautiful machine today and ive had a few problems on it. So far the camera has messed up on me twice. I was taking a picture of someone with the rear camera and it just froze. I clicked home and then force stopped the camera application from settings and then tried to go to the camera and it said camerancouldnt connect. Had to restart. Then i took some pics and videos front facing and rear. Now when I go to the camera app it stuck on the front facing camera, no matter which camera I try to use. Also i work at Bestbuy and when. We were trying to set up the demo device we connected it to an HD screen via hdmi obviously and i tried playing a youtube video in HD. Kept saying tap to refresh so I tapped and then all of a sudden it just hard crashed. I had to just turn it back on. Also right now just trying to watch HD youtube keeps telling me to tap to refresh. Not sureif thats just me and my internet cnnnection but yeah. Just wanted to put these out there. Remember still an early version but I do not think google should have removed the beta tag on this OS

[Q] Test/confirmed camera problem! Anybody else?

So I recently found an odd problem with the S4's camera and I have tested it multiple times, done a hard reset, uninstall/reinstall, and the same results occur, leading me to believe that this is an inherent issue and not a fluke. I'm wondering if anybody else experiences this.
When I use the camera, specifically with Snapchat, if I go outdoors on a sunny day and take a picture of something like the ground, if the image that I attempt to capture is very brightly lit up, the camera tries to take a picture and then Snapchat closes down to the home page. However, once this happens, no matter what I do to try to bring up the camera again, whether through the stock camera app, through Snapchat, or through other camera apps, the camera refuses to even open and bring up an image. Instead, a box comes up and says Warning: Camera failed. I cannot launch the camera anymore after that until I do a phone reset. I tried this multiple times and Snapchat works fine if I take indoor shots or any other shots. But once I try taking a Snapchat of a bright outdoor photo, the camera instantly fails.
Can anyone else verify that they're having this same problem? I can't tell if it's hardware or software. I talked to Sprint and they insist that it's software and refuse to do anything about it.
My girlfriend's s4 on att has this issue. Wonder if it's hardware related or software issue on Samsung and or snapchats part...
mine's a sprint galaxy s4. so at least we know it's not network restricted. i gave snapchat an email; hopefully they reply. anybody else??
That is so weird. I have a similar thing happening to me on an AOSP ROM. Simply put, Snapchat records video in the dark fine but refuses to record in high lighting environments. By the way, my phone is an S3. I believe my friends on stock ROM can record just fine...

Dont be sad, just flash new firmware (I suppose you to have 9500 version), it solves problem with camera.

[Q] Galaxy S4 camera failing on video

Hello guys! I am running 4.2.2 , stock but rooted, on my I9505 Galaxy S4 and a few days ago I opened the camera app to record a video. When I opened the camera app, everything was working fine, focus worked and when i tapped the video button it lagged. After about 10 seconds of freezeness, the camera turned black and showed a message box Camera Failed, and then the app closed. After that, when i opened the camera app it would stay black and do nothing, without even showing the controls. It cannot be recovered until you reboot. Then, the camera works again, tried focusing, even burst mode, but if you tap the video button it crashes. Tried deleting cache as well as installing a camera app from the play store and also tried the 4.3 leaked camera app. I do not know what to do but it really is a problem. Is there a fix that does not involve taking it for replacement.

Camera unavailable

Anyone else having issues getting Camera unavailable? I can use third party camera apps and access both rear cameras.
But if I use the stock one and switch to the rear camera I get "Camera Error" Camera Unavailable.
I also had that today for the stock video but trying a second time it worked.
Yea mine just keeps doing it over and over, OpenCamera runs both cameras just fine, but doesn't see the front camera lol, front camera works fine and non-wide rear works fine on stock app.
I tried to run a full KDZ reset, but it doesn't let me refurbish, only upgrade, so if there is something wrong with the files in there, I fear they may not have been fixed.
Have you tried uninstalling OpenCamera and see if it goes away? I had this happen on an older phone, after a reboot it would work, come to find out, another app was holding the camera open
Yea I've tried using a fully reset phone, after digging more it looks like if the camera is in "Selfie Mode" the rear cameras work, but it's like if the selfie camera is no longer being detected by anything.
