Cannot configure fingerprint - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Fingerprint is not working on my device. Chinese device "converted" to
Oxegen OS 2.0... Any way to fix this?

What exactly is the issue then? Does it give you an error? Does it not recognize your finger?

No error message. Not responding when I touch the pad... Won't let me configure the fingerprint

You actually need to take your finger off once you feel the vibration, then put it back on and take it off again once you feel the next vibration and so on in the configuration. This way the sensor knows your fingerprint better than in just one scan.

But there is NO vibration

Try a reboot, and if that doesn't work reflashing O2OS?

I've tried reboot and reinstall OS2 but still not working. It starts to 16% or 18% or 21%
and than stops and does not go on anymore. Any ideas?

Yeah, that means a part of the scan is done. Take your finger off, replace it in a different position and it'll scan again. The process takes multiple scans to get an accurate fingerprint.

I've changed many positions during more than 10 minutes but still no reaction.

Any chance you can take a video on how you're trying to configure it?

1.8.3. Issues: Screen and Finger Scanner

Since 1.8.3 I have noticed 2 very annoying issues:
1: Several times a day, my Atrix will stop detecting a finger swipe. No error, just no response. I must reboot to regain finger scanning.
1: Screen Timeout: The screen will frequently, but not consistently go off after only a couple seconds of idle time. It doesn't dim first and if you hit the power button it comes back to the screen you were on, not the lock screen.
Both of these issues happened with vanilla 1.8.3 and with Gingerblur and NEVER before the update.
Anyone else?
Fingerpring issue for me as well but also the button sometimes wont put my phone in sleep and ill have to pull battery cause its unresponsive but never the screen issue you're having. This update is full of bugs they need another update fast just to fix what this one broke. Oh and I think about 90% of people that updated have reported an issue with the fingerprint scanner
But thats just my 2 cents
Sent from my Atrix
If both of these issues are known and have been reported, feel free to lock or delete. I searched and didn't find any thread titles about this, but did not read every 1.8.3 thread.
I met the fingerprint issue too after 1.8.3 upgrade

i had fingerprint sensor issues too, when i had stored fingerprints and restored settings for fingerprint sensor using Titanium backup. A wipe data may solve this(int titanium backup).
in 183 there is a new setting in Location And Security!
The phone is not necessary anymore to lock, when the screen goes off.
the screen can go off in 5 mins(in display settings)
and the mobile can locked in 10 mins(in location and security)!
i like this setting!

I don't see it either in 1.8.3. The item "Security lock timer" that would be used for this is disabled (grayed out).
fingerprint issue here too just experienced for the first time yesterday.
i swipe it and there is no response.
good that there is a list of people here with the same issue so motorola can acknowledge it as a legitimate bug and hopefully fix it
Can someone else verify this? When I change the screen timeout from 15 to 30 seconds, then reboot the phone, it switches back to 15 seconds.

this sounds like the GingerBlur 3.0 bug...upgrading to 3.1 fixed this for me
I am having issues with WidgetLocker and the fingerprint recognition, has anyone else experienced this issue with WidgetLocker? I have been having no issues, with the fingerprint scanning, once I turned off WidgetLocker.
Yes.
You are right!
I now recorded again fingprnts and that setting grayed out!!
I didn't used fingerprints cs some probs I had after restoring settings from backups, and waited to have 183 with 3.0 gingerblur..

I found that powering off the device, pulling the battery for a few minutes, re-installing the battery, turning the Atrix back on, then wiping and re-doing the fingerprints permanently fixed my issue.
This issue is not the same issue as when TiBu backs up fingerprint data. This is an issue with the scanner being none responsive. OP this issue has bot be talked about here but on the Moto forums it's been reported by many users.
But thats just my 2 cents

I also had my first fingerprint issue since owning this phone for the first time yesterday after getting 183. Never had it ever before...somethings wrong with this update if multiple people are getting it for the first time now.

add me to the bad fingerprint group
Same issue with Widget Locker. Sometimes when I hit power, I can swipe finger and all is good. Other times, swipe does nothing - I have to slide the screen lock, then I can swipe (or enter PIN).
Can't seem to find any pattern to when it works or doesn't, but it does do this pretty often. Good thing is, it doesn't completely lock up - if I don't get the double-vibrate for a bad finger swipe, I know that I need to do the screen slider first.
Just to add to the people on the list, I experienced the fingerprint issue once, hasn't happened since though
the best thing to do is actually complain on the motorola support forum ...
i already did
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/50138?tstart=0
moto engineers actually look at that forum ...
So I read this thread and thought to myself, "Self, Thank G-d you don't have this problem." And then, of course, I jinxed myself. Add me to the fingerprint issues list!!
I did a power-off, battery remove, battery install, power-on, remove fingerprint data, reboot, then redo fingerprint calibration. If you don't hear back from me, assume it resolved the issue....otherwise, I'll report back....
How absurd?!

S7 Edge Lock Screen issue, wont unlock

I bought two Galaxy S7 Edge phones recently and have noticed this issue on both phones now. Both are also updated to the latest firmware. Both of us have fingerprints set up and a pattern backup. So far, the issue has occurred to us both twice. I happen to always use my fingerprint to unlock and she always uses pattern out of habit from a past phone. She brought it to me a couple of days ago and said her phone says to wait 60 minutes and try again. I asked how many times she entered it wrong, because of course I thought she entered it wrong. She said she didn't enter it incorrectly. I asked if she tried to reboot, of course not. Anyways, I held on to it and after 60 minutes I entered the pattern to unlock her phone and sure enough it wouldn't work. I rebooted, and tried again and it worked. OK...Weird.
The very next day, it happened on my phone. I always use my fingerprint though so it told me no match found. Say what? Tried again. Same thing. OK, swipe and tried my pattern. It says its incorrect and to try again in 30 seconds. 30 seconds later, I tried again and it locked me out for 60 seconds. This time I rebooted, and after it was done and 60 seconds had passed my pattern was working again.
I don't get why it randomly seems to not recognize that we are putting in the correct pattern or fingerprint. I am however happy that a reboot seems to resolve the issue. Is no one else experiencing this?
Mine doesn't lock instead!
So I tried couple of things. Rebooted, re-initialized Finger Prints and even pattern. Now matter what I do, it won't lock the phone. It will just unlock without asking for passcode, pattern, password or fingerprint. Only option I can think of is to restore the phone and try setting up lock option but that's pain in the a**!! I tried third party apps as to lock screen but none of them have the fingerprint unlock option! And some have ads and weird setup which worked... Gettting frustrating. Perhaps I should try restoring phone if there's no other option left

Entirely different. I'm not sure this is actually an issue as much as it is probably settings. Go to settings, Lock screen and security, Secure lock settings. Check how long Lock automatically is set for (mine is for 5 seconds after the screen turns off automatically and that is set for 2 minutes.). Then turn on lock instantly with power key. Go to smart lock and see if that's being used. IF it is it would keep your phone unlocked when its connected via Bluetooth to a device you told it to trust, or when you are at a trusted place via google maps (such as home or work), or it could simply know your voice, or lastly if it senses that it is on your body (I don't get this one. Seems very insecure, like anyone could pick it up and it would just unlock.). Good luck!

Forgot to mention, have done all of that. First I had it set Lock Automatically to immediately and tried 5 seconds, 15 seconds to all the 30 minutes, still won't lock (over night till I wok up in the morning)
Smart Lock:
Trusted Device are my car and my watch, but even with bluetooth disabled (just to give it a shot) it still doesn't lock.
Trusted Place: my home, but even with Location Service (GPS) turned off, still won't lock
On body Detection = Off
Trusted Voice = Off
Tried updating phone perhaps something may fix it, nothing.
Tried Security Policy updates and that says ... updated to latest version...
Been using Android since good old HTC Evo days and had no issue with my (last) Note 4 locking with fingerprint!! I love this phone really expect for this issue. Oh yes and another issue, gestures won't work also!!! Tried hand gestures for screenshot, nothing. Smart Stay doesn't work also!!!
Is something wrong with this phone perhaps??

Hmm.. Have you tried turning off Smart lock all together? Otherwise, all I can think is to factory reset settings before you factory reset the phone.
Factory Settings Reset did it
Factory Settings Reset did it however gestures and smart stay are still issues!! Then I courage myself to do Factory Phone Reset and dang the issue with the gestures persists!!
Bump.
No one else is having this issue? I just happened to be the only one with two new phones that do it?
This literally just happened to me! I was walking to a friend's house and was using the phone just fine - was using Facebook Messenger and Spotify. All of a sudden, I try to unlock it (I have a pattern to draw, not a code) and it doesn't work. I have no idea what's going on but I don't want to factory reset and lose all my contacts and pictures. I only have four tries left to unlock it before it automatically resets itself. I've tried using the Android Device Manager to set a temporary password but since there's already a pattern to draw it won't bypass the lock screen for some reason. I never thought to check the security settings on my phone (why would I if I had a lock screen on it?) so I can't use the Samsung equivalent either. I'm extremely frustrated - been looking for help for about an hour and I'm finding absolutely nothing. It's clearly been a problem before and yet there's no solutions or explanations as to why it's happening??
While I am still having this issue sparsely, I can get around it simply by rebooting. It's just annoying to have to do so.
It's anew feature of S7 called SMART LOCK, meaning your phone knows if you're in a safe place such as your Home, your Car or if you paired a smart watch with your phone and added it as trusted device, as long as you're connected to your watch, the phone knows you're in a safe place so you dont need to enter password to your phone. Or if youre in your car or at Home, then you wont need to enter password to open your phone. But if you want to remove this feature and want to swipe or enter your pin no matter where you are then do this..go to:
SETTING>LOCK SCREEN & SECURITY>SECURE LOCK SETTING>SMART LOCK. Here you'll see "Trusted Places" and "Trusted Device" Just edit or press and hold whatever is in there, e.i your watch, your home address etc...then remove and you should be good to go.

After Power ON, MUST use Knock Code first instead of fingerprint?

Anyone else seeing this behavior? On my 995, whenever I restart, or power on my phone.. I have to use the Knock Code to get into my phone, and it says "fingerprints unavailable for use" or something to that effect.
I find this odd behavior.
Its not odd behavior its LG behavior.
Unfortunately there's no way around it.
turn off secure startup in security...
Your fingerprint is encrypted and you phone can't access encrypted data until you unlock it after a reboot. So its kinda a catch 22 where you will always have to unlock with a pin after startup instead of fingerprint. Your fingerprint is biometric data and obviously can't be changed so it needs to more secure on your phone than your pin which you can change. It is this way on most phones with fingerprint readers.

It's not just LG, my Samsung S7 and Note 7 both required pin code on first log in after a reboot/boot up
It's part of Android now.

It's not even Android. My work phone is an iPhone and it has the same behavior. Which drives me nuts because our work phones require us to change pin codes every couple of months and we can't recycle codes.
I turned off secure startup as I don't need kids messing with my phone and I imagine after ten attempts if wipes it?

30 attempts for secure boot
If I'm right, the op is taking about setting the fingerprint to unlock but it still requires the pattern. You will notice this if you use a third party app or launcher to lock screen. E.g. Nova launcher double tap to lock screen. It will tell you fingerprint is unavailable.
A work around to this is to doubly tap the top part of the screen (the bar where the date and signal strength is).
This will allow you to unlock with fingerprint.
If you use the stock lg launcher then double tapping anywhere on screen shows you to unlock using fingerprint.

I'm working with a developer of Screen Lock Pro to try and find a workaround for this. Currently his app will work on Android 5 and 6 by delaying the lock for 5-10 seconds but it's currently not working on Android 7 on LG (it is working on Pixel and Nexus devices).
Hmmm... Not sure I understand this behavior. My fingerprint is much more complex than a 4-digit code that can eventually be brute-forced (phone wipe or not - in theory I mean).. so why wouldn't my fingerprint be the top-most factor in unlocking the phone? I mean.. say I'm one of those guys that uses his last four of an SSN like an idiot, and someone knows that about me.. boom, they're in my phone. Do iPhones do this for real (as stated above)?

Yup, every time I restart my iPhone, it asks for my pin number and the finger print reader is inoperable. Even when I don't restart my iPhone for a while, it will occasionally lock out the reader and require a pin to wake.

I always assume as much. Not really a bother for me. The iPhone is a work phone that I don't like carrying or touching. My personal phone is always my go to for anything unless it is work related.
I have this on my nexus 6p also. When ever i reboot the phone it requires me to use my pattern to unlock. It's a "feature" of sorts. Not going to go into my thoughts as to why but i think i may understand why they did that.
In case anyone is wondering, a few conditions that force you to use backup method are being left alone (with no smart locks enabled or active) for 4 hours, a reboot, and a failed scan 5 times in a row.
The reboot case is due to encrypted data (no matter what you do, your phone is encrypted on boot, unless you fix that, however, you phone will still treat it as such). The only reason I can imagine for the time out is in case a ninja chops off your fingers in your sleep. As for the wrong input, that seems annoying sure, but odds are if you got the fingerprint wrong 5 times in a row, it's not you.
Yeah v10 does this as well on fresh boot ups.
I'm not sure I understand the reason behind it I would think it would be less secure this way.

I'm not sure I'm following as to why encryption matters. Are you saying my fingerprint data is encrypted? If so, why isn't my PIN also encrypted?
Speaking of fingerprints has anyone run into the issue where the phone "forgets" your print? I have had this happen at random times and while the fingerprint data is still saved the phone fails to recognize my finger so I have to set it up again.

Leaving app open, unlock phone, goes straight to home screen

Has anyone else had this happen? Happens quite often for me. I'll be playing a game at work, get up to do some work while leaving game open. Come back and unlock the phone and it's on home screen. Does the same thing while listening to Pandora.
I've never noticed that happening to me, I just tried to reproduce it with not luck. How are you unlocking the phone?
Either fingerprint or iris. It does it with both. I don't see it happening when turning phone off and on right away. Phone usually sits a few min before it does it.

Battery optimization setting probably. Try disabling optimization for an app that currently does it and see what happens
That didn't help
Couldn't replicate issue either. Let Rayman running and screen went off for about 5 mins. Unlocked with fingerprint and went directly to the game. I had power saving off and performance mode set to optimized.
OP do you also lose your place when it directs you to the home page? Or does it resume when you reopen the app?
It resumes when reopened.
Power saving off and performance mode set to optimized as well.
The one app where it does it almost every time is Star Wars: Galaxy of Hero's. Only other app I notice it once and while is Pandora.
Are you sure you aren't iris unlocking it without knowing you are? Sometimes mine unlocks almost instantly when i press the unlock button. Or when I turn my screen on to check the time.
Is "iris unlock when screen turns on" enabled?
Lock screen & security > iris scanner
I'm sure. Most of the time my phone is face down and I grab it by the side and put finger on scanner. Turned iris scanner off just to be sure and it's still doing it.
Also does it with line messanger...
I have this exact problem as well. Seems to happen rather randomly.
I sometimes see the app actually minimizing to the home screen when I unlock the phone, so it's probably not some background task killing it.
The app is only minimized, not killed.
I have this issue as well.
I think I found the problem. Uninstalled bxActions and as of the past 2 hours the problem is gone.
i have this issue but i don't have bxActions so i don't think that is the problem
Are any of you happening to use the long press home option, the one that bypasses the lock screen? Even though you may not be using the home button maybe the option is still affecting the apps that are open and thinks for some reason you're pushing on the home button.
It might be an app causing it. I still haven't had any issues since I uninstalled bxActions. If you don't have that installed it could be a different app causing it.
I was also having this issue. Stopped bxactions and the issue is gone. Started bxActions back up and issue came back.
Same problem here. On Verizon s8 and no bxaction installed. Very irritating!
Unrelated but another problem is when I change to aggressive wifi/cell handover in developer options it allways defaults back off after a reboot? Any ideas??

Screen Dimming LG 20K Plus

LG K20 Plus boots up then screen dims about every 5 seconds. Had to find an app to keep the screen on. Went to settings/display and tried various settings but non would work to keep the screen on for any designated time adjustment. Any suggestions? Also, other issue; after setting up the fingerprint security, that doesn't work Phone boots up and on screen says fingerprint not working put in your pin which does work.
There were 3 threads on the same topic. This was the most descriptive so I've kept this open.
If people aren't responding it's probably because the user base is limited and people may not have an answer. Strangely enough that does happen here, it happened with my first Android device.

Need more details on your device sir/madam. The more the merrier.
Upon boot password must be entered prior to allowing fingerprint unlock.
Why? It's genius actually. Imagine sleeping and someone decided to unlock your phone and snoop...
That finger is useless.
Now if it's your significant other, that password is useless.
(S)He will find a way.
