has anyone tried rooting it through the s6 or s6 edge method?

Not until an exploit in 5.1.1 is found.
Locked bootloaders are the devil I tell you!
My VZW Edge is still on 5.02, rooted with ping pong and flashed with flashfire. Easiest with locked bootloader.
5.1.1, I'm afraid, is locked pretty damn tight.
May be a while.

My bad, I'm stuck in AT&T land and forgot this was a general forum. My bad lol.
Not sure about the chainfire method but it might be worth a shot.

Sucks for us At&t and Verizon users.

Samsung has put up a challenge to our sharpest Developer's. I'm guessing that Samsung's actions can be defeated eventually, someone will do it just to upset Samsung, and to prove that XDA's Devs are just as good, if not better that their's so when will they get root? who knows, but you can almost guarantee that it's being worked on as this is being written.

If anything this will get more onboard to find an exploit.
This is a brand new device, it will be exploited!
As it matures and these exploits are patched it gets harder as in next to impossible.
The same thing happens in iOS land.
Game of cat and mouse.
Just need to be a smarter cat.
And have patience.
Lots of patience.
One thing I can say is this (S6Edge+) has to be the smoothest out of the box Android experience ever! And on Verizon, that's saying a lot!
So (can't believe I'm actually saying, well technically posting, this!) using it stock isn't hateful at all!
Compared to the VZW Note4, I feel like I've gone from a dinghy to a sportfish!
Not sure if having the extra GB of RAM has anything to do with it or not...
But yes this with AOSP would be pure candy.

[Im]patiently awaiting for recovery, ROMs, root, and debloat

Damn! I just can't use stock phones anymore!! The XDA Community moves so fast I thought that by now there would already be a ROM dump (it's been less than a day, I know). I suppose we need a recovery first. The hardware looks good. I know it has a slightly larger battery than the II, but if 3's actual battery life is anywhere near the II on custom ROMs, I'd be a very happy camper. Let the devs begin! :good:
I know me to. It bootloader let's locked again, maybe thinking about either getting a unlocked TMobile version or wait for Canadian unlocked.

There's a good chance the bootloader will be locked, in which case it might be a long time before you see any of those things you want

Dang not the warm and fuzzy I was hoping for. So my ATT is due to be delivered this am. Or I can spend $400.00 more and go buy a T-Mobile. Crap I was hoping for a Root already.
I am hoping for something like Loki for this phone. It is great hardware but has too much crapware installed. Root would be good just to be able to remove some of it.

The fact that carriers lock the bootloader is both futile and absurd. If they consider the big picture, keeping it unlocked would actually help sales. I realize that they have a business objective to protect and want to maintain their marketing strategy, but the the bootloader almost always gets broken in the end. If they consider that single fact--then they should come to this conclusion: Why put people through hoops to get the access if they will eventually get it anyway? It just pisses people off.
Locking the bootloader does nothing for those who have no interest in root, etc. It does bring bad will for those who want root and will eventually get it.
It's just silly. Give people what they want!!

[Q] Which One to Buy ? Dev will support ?

Obviously we are all waiting for the Note 4, yet it's Pricey.
Now comes the hard question.
Which one to buy ? and
Which will the Dev support ? (Future Proofing)
N910C or N910S
Snapdragon over Exynos
We all saw it in the S4 between the 9505 and 9500 so I don't want to get stuck in the same loop.
Please advise at the earliest since all the articles on the Web refer to Chip variants and differences yet no one has a solid answer to which will be supported and would be considered as a real investment. I hear the Exynos is benchmarked with 40K therefore exceeding our favorite Snapdragon chip !?
That makes it even worse to decide
International version is snapdragon if u care about custom stuff go for it.

I think the exynos version(s) this time around may prove to be a bit more popular because the believe (uncertain) that the 5433 will run 64bit (future proofing).

Tough to say, All of the USA market will have snapdragon, as will many other countries. That means there will be a greater percentage of "market share" of the S805 version with a better chance of having dev support on it.

you give me far too much credit, i port recoveries and do minor things. bootloader exploits are beyond my scope of even understanding how many actually work.
The Exynos model should be faster, better on battery, and possibly offer 64-bit down the road. I'm going with that one.

Will lollipop increase the chance of root?

Do you guys think the lollipop update will help the chance of a root method being found? When the update comes out should I do it right then and there or wait to see if lollipop will completely ruin any chance
There was an article from ChainsDD saying that if anything lollipop is more locked down. My bet is, if their going to get root it's going to be on KitKat.

Wouldn't we have root by now then? I only say because KitKat doesn't seem that hard to root even though it varies depending on OEM. I would think since lollipop for the Droid Turbo isn't too far off (we hope) Then devs would just wait til then for root because most people will take the lollipop update. At least that's how it looks to me and this is my opinion
I'm pretty sure Lollipop will come with root.

I think reduces chances of root
I say helps. Because pretty soon all current moto phones will be on lollipop anyways

My opinion is that Kit Kat doesn't have root NOT because its impossible but because the lack of interest from the people that find these exploits, perhaps its just a matter of time before one of these guys gets a Turbo and works on it or so we hope.
Finding these exploits is not easy an requires insane amounts of personal time and resources, often with little reward. I understand that there's a bounty on this site but this site is just a star in a galaxy. Sometimes these exploits are found by Asian hackers not Americans therefore the audience is very limited on a Verizon exclusive device like our Turbo.
I do however believe, and this is just my opinion and perhaps wishful thinking, that Lollipop will shine a spotlight on this device and people will notice it even more and perhaps attract some of these guys willing to spend hours after hours finding that one vulnerability in that one line code where they can inject their own code to achieve root. Good luck to us!

I bet the differ. No phone would come out with an update with root included. An exploit needs to be found. Even chainfire states that root access is going to be harder with lollipop. I dont think we will be seeing root anytime soon. Atleast for a year.
I hope he didn't actually mean the update would be rooted already.

When will Nougat 7.1.1. come to V20?

Ok V20 came with 7.0, but then when 7.1.1. will arrive OTA? Thanks.
No idea, but we may not even get it.
Think of what happened with Lollipop 5.1.1... a lot of phones skipped it, and jumped directly to 6.
I think I remember this happening with LG too in the past, with the G4 precisely.

This is one of the first phones I've owned that I cannot root, and it kills me! I knew what I was getting into, but I hoped... It was foolish of me. Thing is, I've either become too fussy with what I want from a phone, spec-wise, or the market is saturated with devices that manufacturers WANT us to buy / THINK they know what we want. Depends on your point of view I guess.
