Moto x Pure or Nexus 6 - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had the alcatel idol 3 for a few months. Its pretty much pure android and my first pure android phone. I love it, its awesome, but i want a bigger device and i'm done with other oems. Im not buying anything other than pure android for now on. So i'm stuck between the nexus 6 which in theory is faster than the lg g4, and the new moto x pure. I'd love to try out a 6 inch screen, im just fine with lugging it around but the moto x does have the micro sd card. so im hoping you guys can help me come to a decision.

I have the Nexus 6 and it is a awesome phone. I will never buy a carrier branded phone again. Pure android is the way to go for me. I am thinking about buying the Moto X Pure mainly because of the sd card slot and the moto assist features. Both are great choices.

moto x if you want sd card

moto x if you use voice commands a lot.
the X's software enhancements are geared towards using voice commands
One day I hope that google includes these little tweaks into stock android down the line
Customization of "Ok Google' so something as simple as a TV commercial or my daughter on her ipad activating my phone.
When using a voice command to make a call, it automatically goes to speakerphone because most likely if you used your voice to dial you can't really hold the phone. (optional)
Say "what's up" and it will read your unread notifications.
Say "Find my phone" and it will start ringing so you can locate it.
The drive assist is probably my favorite. There are 3rd party apps that do similar things but none of them are refined as moto's implementation.
twist to launch camera
chop chop to launch flashlight
Camera software in moto x has burst mode and slow mo which the N6 doesn't
MicroSD
Nexus 6
bigger screen with amoled display if that's your thing
better GPU
stock android if you're not into the moto features
faster updates
bigger battery (not necessarily means better battery life due to other factors)
I have the nexus 6 and i've been waiting and trying my best to find alternatives to the features my moto x 2013 has and that's pushing me to make the jump to the moto x pure.

Don't forget about the camera, apparently the Moto X Pure is going to be a big difference.

If you want a big screen Nexus, why not wait till the new Nexus phones drop in about a month?

I'm in the same boat! Want a Nexus 6 because of Project fi but also holding out to see if the Moto X Style (Pure) will work on fi.

I love my N6 its a great phone at least for me coming from a locked down Note 4 vzw. My reason for switching is the sd card and the better camera, the N6 camera while not the worse its not that great compared to others. Also the slightly smaller size will bet better for my pocket.
I think either is a good option.

I've had both the Idol 3 and the Nexus 6. I'm hoping that either the Pure or Huawei Nexus ends up being a good choice for me. I like the lightness and thin profile of the Idol 3. The N6 is a brick by comparison. I'd love to have that weight and size in a more powerful phone that has the kind of ROM/kernel/root support that the N6 has. I'm hoping that either the Pure or Huawei Nexus matches my wishes. I like it that the Pure is almost the exact same size as the Idol 3, other than thickness. And at 5.7", the screen is only a quarter inch smaller than the N6's. I look forward to having a look at its display. The Pure should be faster than the N6 and it supports a Micro SD card, a very nice convenience. It has the benefit of similar technology, but a year newer.
I'd also wait until the end of the month to have a look at the Huawei Nexus. It's very likely to have all the benefits of a Nexus phone, a major plus when you get used to that. We'll find out how the details of it play out.

That's compelling for people who don't need microSD slot in their phone. Nexus 6 32GB is 100$ cheaper than Moto X Pure 32GB. That's very big savings! Not for me though... I want my microSD slot, better camera and stereo front speakers.

I would say go for the Moto X Pure. I have the LG G4 and I absolutely love it... but I'm switching to the Moto X Pure and am choosing it over the Nexus 6 simply because of the size fits more realistically, the camera is MUCH improved over the Nexus 6 and Moto Assist features take the stock Android experience to a new level.

Ended up getting a white 64gig Nexus 6. Yeah it doesn't have a micro SD card but I'll manage to get over it. Waiting to see if someone gets Google fi working on the Moto X Style Pure before unpacking the N6. If so, then back to Amazon the N6 goes

If you currently had a nexus 4

Would you go and get the moto x? I did a 14 day trial with the moto x but returned it because I have to the nexus 4. But man am i going through withdrawl. What a great phone. Just not sure I can justify getting it if the nexus 4 is still pretty solid.
Anyone else's go from the 4 to the x?

I currently have a nexus 4. And I just bought a moto x. I can say the active notifications and size are just a few things I like about it. I'm with you on size. I like big screens, but I really really enjoy being able to use my phone with one hand easily and the 4.7 inch is a sweet spot. Plus that battery life on the x has impressed me with everyone's opinion of it. I hate my nexus 4 battery life. It's deplorable. So I look forward to getting the moto x.

I'm considering buying a Moto X. I have a Nexus 4 and I really dissaponted of the battery life. KitKat doesn't introduce nothing worthy to me, and I really hate the exclusive thing about software ond the Nexus 5.
It's a tough choice between a Nexus 4 and a Moto X?
Have both, far prefer Moto X, although if someone stole it from me, I would not be upset with having to settle for the Nexus 4.
If you're looking to settle with a phone for the next 2 years, Moto X by far. If you're looking for the flavour of the month for <$200 used, then Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 was the last of my Craigslisting days, and I bought the Moto X and I don't have any desire to go back to buying and selling phones rabidly.
Thank for the answer. As you say, I'm searching for a phone that last me 2 years or more .
I'm gonna buy the Moto X, then. Thanks again

Watch the PocketNow comparison video between the Nexus 5 and Moto X. He completely nails it. The Nexus 5 (and by extension the Nexus 4) represent the technological backbone of Android. While a great phone in its own regard, it's meant as a test bed for developers. The Moto X is designed to take that experience and make it actually useful for normal people. People argue that all the Moto X functionality can be achieved through 3rd party apps, but:
1) There are things physically impossible to do without the companion cores in the X8 computing platform
2) 3rd party apps aren't as fluid as Motorola's apps.
Google's influence on Motorola is very clear. Everything feels great about this phone. It doesn't have the specs to beat out other phones but what it does have is usability.
Not to mention the introduction of ART means that the slowest component of Android has been eliminated and maybe we will start seeing phone manufacturers follow Motorola and go back to using dual cores instead of quad cores because it's absolutely unnecessary. At this point in time, hardware improvements are getting more and more pointless due to the software limitations imposed by an OS that was initially pushed out the door to fight Apple.
I have both at this moment.
The only reason I am keeping N4 is the hope that it might get kitkat sooner than x.
X wins on every other aspect...particularly once I get used to the touchless control, it is very hard not to have it, not to mention the active notification.
The customization is cool...but honestly how much does that matter to your everyday life? Very soon I forgot about the unique back and accent. But these two features have greatly changed my way of using a phone.
I have the Nexus 5 and the Moto X, and while my initial disappointment with the N5 is fading, I still think the Moto X is the best phone ever made. I think making the switch from a Nexus 4 to a Moto X is a wise choice. Heck, I think switching from any phone to the Moto X is a wise choice. Nothing like it on the market.

To be honest, I'd say the iPhone is like it. Clearly not in the way the UI works or how the OS' compare, but the user-centered design ethos of both phones.

[Q] Nexus 4 or Moto G?

So, yes, I'm buying either of those. Which one do you think I should buy?
I'm going for the Nexus 4, but the Moto G has been getting alot of rave reviews, which led me to asking this question to get you guy's opinions.
Even though the n4 is a year old, its still a beast. What are your thoughts? Moto G or N4?
even I still have a nexus 4, I would suggest to buy a moto g! the price is awesome, the hardware (except the camera) equal or better, and the software will almost as fast updated as on the nexus 4
keep calm and push the thanks button!
Nexus 4 - hardware/updates
Moto G - Less better hardware then N4/Updates tend to be slower/Stylish
I've owned quite a few Android Devices... Will never buy a non-Nexus device after my experience with the Galaxy Nexus and my N4.
Actually the moto g keeps up the the GS4, nexus 5, and nexus 4...get a moto g,
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
IF you ar eon T-Mobile then a nexus 4 with one of the 4.4 ROMS with LTE baked in is a bargain!
Ignore.. Guess I was wrong.
Some people are making ridiculous claim. The Moto G do not have equivalent hardware of the Neuxs 4.
First off the Nexus 4 is 3G pentaband, it work anywhere and doesn't have to deal with having two different global and US version like Moto G. It have that hidden Band 4 LTE support too.
It have a clearly faster SOC, at 1.5ghz and Adreno 320. The Moto G is slower at 1.2ghz and only Adrena 305. And the N4 have 2GB of ram instead of one.
Lastly, better camera. The 5MP from the Moto G barely cuts it.
Since KitKat is light you might not see a difference, but the Nexus 4 is outright faster.
There are some better factors for the Moto G like longer battery life and out of the box USB OTG support, however it lacks physical TV output. If these factors are important to you, then maybe the Moto G is a better choice. I think KitKat run so well especially with ART, and better battery life by itself may be the killer factor for some people.
However, on the enthusiast side, I am not really convinced with the lacking of roms for the Moto X. I would rather get a used Nexus 4 still at this point, but for buying it as a gift or regular Android users, then I would recommend the Moto G.
If you can possibly ever stretch your budget, get a nexus 5. But if you're strictly limited to N4 or Moto G, then I'd recommend the N4. The Nexus 4 has a slightly bigger screen (4.7inches) and VERY slightly higher resolution (1280x768). The SoC in the Nexus 4 is significantly much faster than the Moto G, don't rely on benchmarks such as Quadrant and Antutu. Use cross platform benchmarks to compare such as Geekbench (For CPU) and GLBench (For GPU). The Adreno 320 in the N4 is more than enough to power the N4 reso allowing it to keep up with devices such as the Nexus 5 and Note 3 since they're pushing 1080p. Customization is questionable for either devices, the question is, do you like a custom back cover for your phone more than a custom ROM & kernel? The N4 will have way more support for ROMs and Kernels. The cons of the N4 to the Moto G is that it has a Glass back, requiring more care if you want to use it without a case. Neither device doesn't officially support LTE, but as far as I know, there is a flashable zip for a custom radio allowing Band 4 LTE. In my point of view, I do not see a reason to go for the Moto G unless you prefer a smaller screen, ability to switch out the back cover for a different color and how it feels in hand (Moto G does feel better in hand, although this is just an opinion).
If you want better performance then definitely nexus 4 because it is still a very high end device. If you are not a power user, only uses basic stuffs then moto g is a good phone at really fair price.
lmao moto g = n4 hardware? ofc no,moto g uses adreno 305 as gpu and our n4 uses 320.its a notable difference in gaming performance.not in system performance tho.
Thanks everyone. Going for the N4. Regarding Moto G having USB OTG, you can get that on n4 with a otg y cable which I will be purchashing, plus a great case for it too so that it doesn't break that easily.
I was already on the heavy side of getting the N4, and you guys just affirmed my "thoughts". And the dev scene is just too good for the N4, which I think would never be that good for the Moto G.
And even if the N4 doesn't get updates after 4.4.1, either I'll get a new device by then or it'll be ported to N4 anyway.

Review: Nexus 5 Vs Moto G

I Bought the nexus 5 for £310 and at first was happy with the device, however I decided to ditch this and buy myself Moto G Unlocked
cost me £92, saving my self £200 as i've sold on the nexus, £200 Cheaper for starters, The moto G is a great size its more of a one handed use then the nexus where I often had to strain myself, secondly battery life on the nexus was terrible would have to charge twice a day, on the moto G I don't have to, Now something people think they will miss?
Speed
For some people yes the nexus is better for you if you game, but for me I mainly facebook message, text, web browse the moto g does
this quick with no issues, nexus only opens apps 0. faster, who really cares?
1080p Screen
720p is fine for reading texts
I Reccomend this phone it does what you want for a cheap price Love the dimple too
Please note that comparation threads are not allowed on xda

[Q] Question nexus 4 or moto g 2013?

I am planing to buy a new phone, so should i go for moto g 2013 or nexus 4 ? I am getting them for the same price here in India, any suggestions any one?
Nexus 4 if u can take nexus 5

The G '14 definitely has its pros (front facing stereo speakers and I'd bet the camera)
BUT our sleek glass shark (look up what mako stands for) packs 2 GB of RAM and a better processor, which is THE way for being future-proof. Plus the battery life actually isn't bad at all if you know how to manage your device.
The G '14 is newer but that doesn't mean it will be getting better support, and that 1 GB stinks.
Whoops, just read you were comparing with the 2013 Moto G. Well, no way. The only advantage over the N4 is battery life.

[QUESTION] what phone are you switching from and why?

As the title states, which device and why?
I'm switching over to the pure edition from a OnePlus One. I didn't feel as though the OnePlus 2 met flagship standards and then found this. A phone priced at about the same price with a plethora of extras
Will probably be coming from an N6. Love it but this is actually the first phone spec and feature wise that has come close to my "perfect" phone. Bought a Moto X 2014 a couple months ago as a play phone and loved it just too small being a phablet lover. Love the N6 the Pure is just simply my dream so far

I'm in the same boat. Love my N6 but miss those moto features. Moto X Style is blend between the 2 but I would love it if somehow the Nexus 6 was able to get these features. I'd like to stick with the larger battery and slightly larger AMOLED screen. That is of course unless the Moto X style proves to have better battery life than the N6.
Switching from S6. As long as the camera can hang with the S6 in the real world testing, the Pure Style is mine. I miss the Moto Display and free of bloat

Switching from the n5. Would have ran this phone another year or so but bad build quality of LG means that I've been dealing with a sticky on/off button for the past year and now at breaking point ^.^
I'll be switching from the nexus 5, after six months with the nexus 6. The Pure is a tiny tiny bit smaller and hopefully will provide a lil bit less of a hand cramp and what looks like a much much better camera.
Note 3. Unless the note 4 drops a lot in price. There wasn't enough of an improvement for the note 4 to warrant upgrading our notes last year, now I'm ready for a new phone. The note 5 appears to have missed every mark, and I can get this for half the price of the note 5
I'll be coming from a Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition to either the Motorola X Style or one of the new Nexus phones when they come out this Fall. If the Nexus doesn't have an option for 128GB internal storage, I'll definitely be going for the Style, since it has a microSD card slot and a must-have for me is enough storage space to contain my music collection and a few Nandroid backups.
I will be upgrading from an HTC One M7, that was a T-Mobile version. But I flashed it to Google Edition, soon as the GE RUU was available here on XDA. I will be getting the Moto Pure.
I was so very disappointed, that the Google Play Edition program ended. The timing for Nexus phone releases is always too late in the year for desired upgrade timeframe. But I was going to hold out for the 2015 Nexus, till the Moto Pure was announced. MicroSD slot, Moto Maker, GREAT PRICE and everything else I've been wanting.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Switching from an M8. I love the phone and until now I feel like its the smoothest Android phone I've ever had but the camera quality is just horrible imo and I feel this would be a nice step up especially with the price point. Not to mention the 5.7 inch screen which I loved when I had the Note 2
I've had too many phones to count. I currently have a G4 and I really like it. I've owned the nexus 6, but not the moto X '14. this new moto style seems decent, its like a smalled nexus 6 with a micro SD, seems like a dream come true for me. It's one of the reasons I will probably miss out on the oneplus 2. Memory expansion for me is a big deal, the G4 has this but it lacks in build quality and developer support(only due to bootloader bi*ch problems) I know the moto will get loads of roms and support.
I will be coming from a bog standard S3 which I have been using with a cracked screen for a month or so. Do I need to say more LOL. I was looking at buying the OnePlus 2 but CBA playing their game tbh so they can bugger off!

The Pure Edition will work with Sprint. So you don't need Sprint to offer it. Unless you have a need for a subsidized device.

Coming from a GS3.
Reasons for [potential] change:
1. Unlocked
2. External SD storage
3. Off contract
I'm coming from the LG G3. I'm so sick of the lag and random issues I have off and on. Would love for the x to hold a charge and have a good camera. We will see the reviews
I'll be walking away from my laggy/slow ass Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Phone is beautiful, but it's flawed like every other Samsung phone I've owned. Thought the S6 would be the one, but was completely wrong.
Plus, I've always wanted a Moto X, but for some reason I never bought one? I did have the Droid Turbo, and loved the Moto features. Can't wait to go back!
My Droid Maxx will be getting replaced. Verizon's lockdown and lack of full root makes it something I'd like to throw at a wall once I get something better. Considering the high likelihood of the X Pure getting Bootloader unlock, it's a no brainer. Also really liking the idea of being able to expand storage with an SD card.
If, as it sounds, the note 5 fails to meet my standards for a (near) $1000 phone, the wife and I will be coming from the notes 1,2 & 3. We skipped the 4 since I didn't see enough of a difference between it and the note 3.
We live in the sticks. No broadband except satellite and at&t and now tmo. So, our phones are our internet devices. I am a retired programmer. I used to build a new machine from scratch every 18 months or less. Now I haven't bought a new laptop in about 5 years because it's windows 7, has office and I use it maybe once a month.
My phone is my device of necessity. I'll be able to get two moto pure phones for the price of one note 5. If it had a 6" screen I'd be even happier.
The delay until September is a bit of a downer. On the other hand maybe some other device will pop up.
Moto, you snooze you lose. Announce vapor make me wait two months, my eye starts to wander.
Provided the Style has an unlockable bootloader, TWRP support and a good rom community, I'll be coming from my N5.
Sticky power button and a video glitch (that it's had for ever) means it's about time to change to something.
