Windows 10 on MacBook Pro - Windows 10, 8, 7, XP etc.

I usually use Parallels for Windows but I thought I'd try Boot Camp since a lot of Mac users recommend using it. I installed the ISO file and purchased Windows 10. I made a partition and everything seemed to go great. I ran Windows 10 and I'm now facing two issues. First issue is Windows 10 does not seem to detect my Wi-Fi. In other words, Internet does not work. Second issue is, I cannot adjust the screen brightness. There's an option to automatically adjust but I can't do it manually. The option is greyed out. Any solutions?

What year is your Mac book? Did you try the boot camp drivers? On mine everything except the hardware function keys work. However, I can adjust brightness via software

My MacBook Pro Retina is Mid 2012. It's worth mentioning that when Boot Camp Assistant finished installing and saving all the Windows 10 files to my hard drive I got the below message (see attachment)...
So I contacted Apple and they said that sometimes you need to download it manually and they gave me this link: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720?locale=en_US
And so I downloaded and copied and pasted all the content in the BootCamp folder to the root of my hard drive. And then when I ran Windows, I doubled clicked on the Setup file and I installed it. I noticed the mouse worked a lot better in Windows and also the volume buttons worked (they weren't working). But the brightness and the Internet did not work even after installing the Windows drivers.

I solved it. Brightness and Internet are working now. I'm going to explain how I did it for future reference, in case someone faces the same issue.
So I basically had to boot to Macintosh and partition my hard drive in Disk Utility, I chose Master Boot Record for the partition scheme. I then ran Boot Camp Assistant and chose the option to download the latest Windows Support Software from Apple only since I already did the other two options before. And this time it downloaded successfully, I didn't have to do it manually like last time. Anyway, after Boot Camp Assistant finished downloading the drivers, I boot back into Windows and ran the Boot Camp Setup file that's on the hard drive. And that's it. It automatically connected to Wi-Fi and I can adjust screen brightness.

Thanks, for posting your solutions. I am very glad apple just released the new boot camp drivers so quickly. I have been very pleased with windows 10 so far

Glad your problem solved. Although I didn't face the problem you had, I can't make the function (fn) button working. For example, I can't adjust the keyboard backlight. Do you have the same issue? Thanks

Realy confused and in need of help

I recently upgraded to wm6 from the t-mobile site. At first it was running flawlessly and very fast. I have installed windows live, resco and tcmp and still things were quick. after a few weeks, strange things started happening. When i went to my SMS/MMS and began to write a message, the flashing cursor would move along as i typed but no letters would show up on the screen. If i saved this message inot drafts then opened it again, i could then see all the text i had written and was previously hidden.
Soon aftet this started happening, the same began in windows live, then word etc...
recently, my athena has started to crash within an hour of a reset. Most of the time, if i start a program, just the bar at the top will load and nothing else, this is most serious in SMS/MMS. also, when this happens and i got to memory (the start menu and setting tab are still quick) it shows that i always have over 50 meg of ram left. Although, if this helps at all, the device runs slowest when turned on from sleep mode. Before i put the device in sleep mode, when i goto file explorer i can hear the microdrive fire up and this programme runs slow. after if has been in sleep for 20 mins or so, file explorer will never boot up properly and there is no noise from the microdrive.
I have tried hard rest, starts fast again, then slows to nothing after few days. I have tried various tweaks i have seen on here, such as disabling autooff and disabling the x-button programme. I have run spybot and antovirus software and nothing. Anyone got any ideas? thank you in advance

not sure if this is related but using pocket hack master; firstly, this programme hangs on all bu the last speed test. also, in the processes, there is one with a large red x picture with it. not sure if this is normal but jus thought id mention it

There are many many programs out there which hangs my devices and cause the behaviour you described. pocket hack master is one of them, which strangely works for others but not my device. Anothe is Touch Commander.
I usually uninstall the software once they cause freezes.
Try installing and testing your software one at a time to isolate it.
got a feeling it could be windows live. Unfortuantly, this is probably the programme i use the most. Is there any known issue with this?

I personally have had no problem with it, but sometimes one person's experience is not definitive. Try turning it off and see what happens.

i uninstalled all programmes and it seemed fine but when i put windows live back on. the problem started again. im using build 10.00026 i think. is there a later version than this that could help?

I think PK ROM is likely to have the latest version, but Powell is the one who could confirm this.

Evo/HTC Sync

Just a couple weeks ago my EVO quit showing up as a drive on my HP dv7. Now everytime I plug my phone into my laptop I get an error message saying that the drivers did not properyly install. I also get this blue screen of death that crashes my laptop. The blue screen says something about the USB drivers. I plugged my EVO into my wifes netbook and have no issues. Im beginning to think that it might just be a 32/64 bit Windows 7 issue but I'm not sure. Thought I would post this issue to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Thanks

I would uninstall HTC Sync and also confirm that the drivers are uninstalled as well.
Then restart and reinstall.
Side note: How is "uninstall" a word but "reinstall" isn't?
Sorry. I left some stuff out of my original post. I went as far as doing a full recovery on my laptop. Ive uninstalled and reisntalled HTC Sync 2 times. Ive uninstalled all USB Drivers and restarted my laptop both times. HP says its HTCs fault. HTC says its HPs fault. Im beyond frustrated. Ive been having to use an FTP server to be able to transfer all of my data.
Thanks for the quick response though.

You said you're using Windows 7 64 bit?
Maybe try the 32 bit drivers?
HTC Sync doesn't auto update very well. Are you using the latest
HTC Sync 3.0.5511 from here? http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/
I also use 64 bit Windows 7 and it works. Actually, I found and used HTC Sync 3.0.5517 from somewhere. A Google search today show that this site lists HTC Sync 3.0.5551: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Mobile-Phone-Tools/HTC-Sync.shtml It says it's for all HTC devices, but doesn't specifically say it's for the Evo.
I just downloaded and installed 5551. The installation package is 151K, which is over twice the size of the previous ones, I think because it also installs a new installer and a Microsoft C++ 64 bit driver.
I just now sync'd with 5551 and it worked well. I wish there was a change log somewhere. I have had problems with it swapping some of my Outlook Contacts to first name, last name, and sometimes it completely borks my Outlook Calendar birthdays. This one worked fine, but I usually only see problems every two or three syncs.
Give it a shot, and it may fix your problems. Newer is better anyway.

I was having the same issue with the name swapping and I noticed on the Evo in contacts the view setting was set for first name, last. I changed that around to last, first and so far it's working. I also went into Outlook and re-set every one of my contacts back to last, first. I think it might have been the setting on the Evo causing the issue. Glad to see it's not just me.
Thanks for the links, mine auto updated a couple of days ago to 5517 but I'm going to try the latest one.

Problems with the 2013 Nexus 7

I hope it is OK to start such a general thread and that this is the correct sub forum for it.
I am an owner of a 2012 Nexus 7 who also purchased the 2013 Nexus 7. While there are many improvements in the new 2013 nexus 7 (speed, display, etc.) there seem to also be frustrating problems that a number of users (including myself) have all encountered with no satisfactory solution resulting in much wasted time. I thought it would be useful to put them together in one thread and see what they may possibly have in common.
1. Usb connection to a pc. The device is not recognized to permit usb file transfers. Many potential solutions have been suggested (mtp/ptp off/on, usb debugging off/on, etc.) but these have not worked for me and many others.
(Potential work around: flash stick and stickmount work for me for file transfers. Another slower method is wifi transfer using ES Explorer, or email attachments).
2. Adb device is not recognized when using WugFresh toolkit. Faulty drivers, user error, etc have been blamed. I've tried them all with no benefit. Still can't get the Nexus recognized despite numerous attempts and methods.
(I'm no expert but I suspect the problem is probably related to #1. The pc cannot detect the adb device in those cases because it cannot detect the Nexus in the first place).
3. GPS problems. Supposedly helped (or worsened) by latest update. Don't know because I don't use GPS much and have not installed the latest OTA update, afraid it will mess up my root and I won't be able to get WugFresh to detect the Nexus again. (Took me days of attempts the first time).
There are probably other problems but the above are the most common ones.
If the moderators agree, I think this thread might be useful.
Just the tip of the iceberg.
With the exception of your #3, most users won't see the issues that you've listed.

You are correct. I did not want to overload the list.
I too have had the random freezes and occasional reboots.
I have something to add here. I keep my nexus 7.2 (2013) in a moko case and often use it with the case folded back all the way. When the freezes occur, I noticed that if I move the case cover slightly away, the freeze stops, and when I bring it back, it freezes again. So, in my opinion, the freezing is magnet related. If so, a weaker magnet or more back padding might help with that. I've had no freezing when I use the Nexus out of the case. Have not yet tried additional shielding.
Try a different USB cable / port.
And toolkits are lame. Use fastboot.
#1 and #2 have to do with older drivers confusing your installation. If you work on it, almost everyone that has posted has eventually gotten both to work.
#3 GPS issue is fixed. There's an update you can use to just get the GPS fix and nothing else, no OS upgrade, no loss of data, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421373
beware of the "the problems only represent a small vocal group blah blah" posts you'll get. I ended up returning mine to best buy for good today. I couldn't find myself dealing with and trying to replace this unit x amount of times to get a properly working one. Back to the drawing board I go.
I don't think any other device in the history of Android devices I've owned has a more 'vocal' group of problems in the General/A&A forums. It's ridiculous how bad the quality control for this tablet is.
I experienced #1 with my original N7.
And that was USB driver issue. I fixed it by, really, removing all kind of drivers that are on my pc (Win7 64).
I remember uninstall all the drivers as well from the device manager, right click uninstall.
I tried removing drivers from WugFresh and it did not work.
Then #2, I managed to use the PDAnet driver.
Now, it's working for both MTP and ADB

#1 I believe the Nexus connected fine before I used WugFresh which made me uninstall a bunch of drivers. I now think maybe I uninstalled some essential driver but have no way to restore things because the restores don't go back far enough.

I've been working on it for several days now. Hours and hours of wasted frustrating time. Tried everything suggested (which may be part of the problem). Need someone to talk me through it once. There really should be a direct download of the necessary windows 7 drivers I could just download and install on the pc and solve the problem.
#3 I'm rooted with stock rom. I don't use GPS much so that is not a major problem.
The major problem is that though I'm rooted I can't do a Nandroid backup and without it it's scary for a newbie to do anything that could mess things even further. Took me days to get WugFresh's adb recognized and finally root in a few minutes after that.

Hmm you could download the goomanager app and then install TWRP, by then you can do a nandroid backup without any hassle.

Update : SUCCESS!!
It was the cable stupid!
I can't believe the hours I wasted because of this stupid cable. This must be the cable I had used when I finally successfully rooted the Nexus after multiple tries (including different cables, etc). I own several USB cables and in my hours and days of trying to get this to work I went through them all at one time or another.
I now labeled this cable as the one to use for connecting between the Nexus and the PC. It is hard to believe that a cable could make that much difference! I was of course aware that the cable could be a problem but this much of a problem?! Unbelievable. What could be so different with this Asus cable? What could be missing in the other cables?
For the record this is the cable that came with the original Nexus 7 charger. Now I have it labeled to avoid going through all this again.
I'm one happy camper! You guys have no idea how frustrating it is to follow every ones advice and still have no success. You start to feel really stupid.
Thank you all for your wonderful and patient support. You guys (and gals) are great. Sorry to have wasted your time too.

[Q] A driver installed itself on my laptop through an .exe file

Hey guys, really need help here. Honest noob here so please try to understand my situation. I updated to Windows 8.1 to see what were the changes but unfortunately I realised I didn't have my activation key, so I decided to use a program called Windows 8.1 Key Finder Ultimate just to see all the features before buying the key ( I don't have money, I'm just a poor student)
So I installed it, and clicked on it. Then it prompted me to install again, which I found peculiar. So I scanned the exe and nothing was wrong. I installed the thing and tried to run it, but it did the same thing so I tried KMS activators instead. From KMSAuto Pro to KMSPico, nothing worked. Something I did along the way triggered a sound driver to install, and it definitely wasn't a Realtek driver, which is my soundcard manufacturer. I didn't really pay much attention as it was 2-3am, and I assumed it would just stop installing due to conflicts with the real driver.
Decided to sleep, went to school at 7, came back home and decided to turn on my laptop to listen to my new CD. No sound. I assumed its just WMP having issues with the CD, so I tried my other players. Nothing! Decided I should try to see the speaker settings and check vol. etc but I can't play any test tone, with the computer telling me "Failed to play test tone". I panicked for awhile but went on a solution hunt. I tried everything from a clean boot to driver update to uninstall then install, disabling audio and re-enabling, so many and nothing works. Five hours later I'm here desparate to find answers from the gurus. (I realised I have no restore points, which is really idiotic of me...)
I remembered the sound driver that installed itself, so I intended to find it and murder it. But being the noob I am, I don't know how to find the right thing in event logs and all the mumbo jumbo. Is there a way to see what changed recently, or installed recently (not only programs) or even what was running a certain periods of time (don't say task manager because I'm not looking for what's running but rather what RAN). Also, are there any ways to see all drivers installed apart from device manager and isolate them to diagnose the issue at hand?
Any solutions provided to me is greatly appreciated, and should be free is possible. I don't have any money on me and I can't find a job to support myself due to school, so please understand that this laptop is really valuable to me and I need all the help I can find here. If any other detail is needed I'd gladly provide them. And please don't condone me for my mistake and stuff, I'm still learning as I go along...

You can use the reliability monitor under control panel >system and security>action center >maintenance to see a nice time line of events.
If you have a key for windows 8, you can easily and freely update to windows 8.1 using the store (you have to install all windows 8 updates first).
It is best to avoid using fishy .exes because they can damage your windows install and even install mallware.

Yes, i know this bug, but decided to ignore sleep mode for years on win 10.
Maybe you could tell, whats your exact model, and we find a way to fix it.

I had the same problem, the only thing that fixed it was a complete reinstall of windows. However, i found that it wont work if you do a fresh install from your own pc, download the latest version and install. I looked everywhere for a solution and this was the best bet, all other options gave me a blue screen of death.
Definitive solution:
1- open device manager
2- search for Intel Management Engine
3- Right click and choose Disable.
Congratulation! You can now SLEEP comfortably.

Hi guys, I have replaced it with a new hard drive these days, and the freeze problem is already fixed. I recommend anyone to install SSD.
You can change your setting and Follow these steps to resolve this issue.
1- open device manager.
2- search for Intel Management Engine.
3- Right-click and choose Disable.
