Quick charge - E 2015 General

Well the chipset in our phone does support quick charge, does that mean we can actually use it?

Just so that I know a bit more if you don't mind can you explain what the phone needs internationally to use quick charge?
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk

ayy sorry I forgot to edit that post, I've seen thread on official Moto forum where some guys tried to use fast chargers but they don't work with our device, sorry I can't find this thread now. I think that there have to be something more in hardware than only soc support. I think that this the same story as with otg, there are phones with soc that support otg but manufacturer hasn't connected power pin in usb port so we can't use it

USB OTG

Interesting! Just poking around the kernel config for the nexus S and it would appear the USB OTG support is enabled by default.
Hmm! This could be interesting!
It could be very intesting
Alright, I'll be the one to ask. What's OTG?

USB.Org USB On The Go FAQ
Can anyone confirm if this indeed works?
OTG
Looks like this was looked into in Febuary as shown in this thread. The hardware is there but there might be some problems with the wires missing. If so, then some brave soul could connect (solder) the wires into the place.

did a quick search for otg on the nexus s forum and posting this to raise awareness for ezkeel's kernel. He is asking for testers with otg cables to help him test. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19926148&postcount=748

Connecting Atrix to TV via hdmi

I went to Bestbuy this morning and was checking out the Atrix when I was told by a BB employee that you can hook up a bluetooth keyboard and connect the hdmi cable to the phone and tv and use it as a computer if you don't have the lapdock.
is this true?
I really don't think the dude knew what he was talking about because he kept saying that only the Inspire handset is capable of working on the new HSPA+ network. I kept telling him the Atrix can too and he had to go get a manager to confirm....wtf.
But anyway, is that the case? You can connect the Atrix to the TV via hdmi and have the same kind of experience you would have as if you had the lapdock?

No, it's not the case with stock. There are some people working on it so that it will be possible, but they haven't cracked it yet.
It used to be, but Motorola changed it so that you needed the dock because of friendly user feedback.

Oh, ok....When he said all that, it didn't even sound correct. But he so happy, I thought he was having an asthma attack just from talking about it. His eyes was all big ..I was like wow. I hurried up and left after that experience.
There's now a hack to enable webtop without the lapdock or HDMI dock here.
You can also find an HDMI mirroring hack here. Just remember to connect the HDMI cable before running the app for the first time.

Not sure if it it relevant now that it was brought up from the dead, but with the lapdock I can surf the net with the built in browser instead of Firefox. Not sure if its the same with the multimedia docking station though. From what I remembered a tethering plan was not needed with that kit but I was told you could still surf the net.
Thread cleanup, back on topic please.
I noticed that. I got to this thread from a google search, so I figured I'd add pointers to the more recent threads answering the question. Terribly sorry if this somehow offended you.

Mount USB External Harddisk(s)or USB sticks

oke
we already talked about the Idea in the past, some where launch nexus s time.
but now seeing that the xoom has accomplished this, and the nexus one(some sort).
will there be any Dev brave enough to take this journey to code the hell out of it to use it on the nexus s?
any Dev here on the NS forums that has the knowledge to enlight us about this,if possible or not.and if so.
will there be any Dev taking the challenge?

I think I read somewhere that the GS2 has USB OTG functionality, so when I manage to get hold of the ROM and attempt my port I can see how it could be enabled. Not my area though, but I'm willing to help anyone that does know how.
Nexus One has it, and a custom kernel of the SGS also can enable it
we (Nexus S) seem to be the only ones falling behind in enabling the USB host functionality, that according to the guys working on the SGS seems tobe just commented out by Google during the build of the kernel
you can actually enable it in the code, and recompile a kernel with the support.
the only problem the team of SGS are having is finding a way to supply the 500mAh power to the port

hmm,in case of USB stick it would be needed yes(the power porting) but in case of HDD external.you could use a powersuplyd usb cable,or a external HDD with a AC power adapter(like the external HDD i have)

Seriously ??? Nothing ??
Why no one is interested in this implementation?
Ok...now the galaxy s2 also got this functionality by a custom kernel. I'm sure this is possible on our nexus s also....maybe someone can get in touch with the s2 dev and help us out it would be good

You may be quite right but then again if nexus one can do it via some hacks, I do believe that nexus s can also definitely Do it..
There's not just enough momentum in this thing right now....

I saw time ago that its possible, you just need a source of power
Here there's something
If you read more carefully, he says:

If by USB OTG he means that, yeah, it would be nice to have on X8
i already ask alfsamsung about this and he said he doesn't have the hardware

I was just wondering the same a few days ago:

but also no answer.
it would be nice, at least, to know if this is possible.
I wonder what alfsamsung doesn't have, X8 or OTG cable?
if it's the cable I bought one for less than 2 dollars. I would gladly donate one to him. but it sounds like he doesn't have X8 ?!?

It's USB On the Go.
USB OTG port can be used like SLAVE or HOST.
that means when you plug it to computer it's slave attached to computers' host usb port. that's how it is now.
but when you plug USB hard drive (or mouse ...) to your phone, it's HOST, so you can i.e. listen to the music from hard drive.
yes i think hardware of our x8 cannot support it
my friend also have cable and i plug it to mouse but nth happended

It's normal that nothing happens if it doesn't have support in kernel.
somebody who knows it, but really knows it, not just guessing like us, should tell us.
I hope it has OTG capable hardware, because I believe the same hardware is in the most of phones.
but as I said somebody who knows it should tell us

I had read the posts for Nexus
It also requires change in kernel and some extra modules.
Its not simple as installing an app.
That's why also i wrote my 1st post : Are our devs do not working on This feature......
If devs could do this, it would be AWESOME...
I'd love to use my wireless keyboard with my android It'll kick ass

USB host like Tab 10.1?

I see that with a cable adapter, the Tab 10.1 can host USB (meaning you can plug common USB storage into it). Can the Tab 7 hardware do this?
Yes. there are good reasons to believe this, but the software is still work in progress.
With ICS, there will be USB host, the ICS roms in the dev section are showing a great deal of promise, so the short answer is; "Evenually, yes."
If developers still support us, we should be seeing it soon.
I've asked the same question on the ICS thread since the listed working features include USB host. However, not much people seem to actually have the adapter, so we don't have anyone who can test it.
I'd buy an adapter to try but if it doesn't work, I have no knowledge to help them make it work.
usb adapter
I have bought an adapter, it did not work. The tablet did not recognize the adapter or the usb stick. I waiting to find out there is driver which can be added or if there are any other options available.
