Merge the Tab S with the Note product line already. - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

Isn't that the best course of action Samsung could take?
Sure it'll be more expensive...unless Samsung could...I don't know... somehow shave down costs by deleting some TW feature(s) and inserting those costs savings in the merger of the 2 product lines?
This is not a Samung bashing thread, I just want to know your opinions about this topic.
Write down what you think's the best course of action.

Thats what Ive been saying for a year. It took a year for me to get a 32 gigabyte 8.4 inch s-series. I'm pretty upset today with Samsung anyways due to the fact I own almost everything in the Note series I had a Note 8.0 which I give to my mom, I had a Note 3 which I sold to upgrade to the nNote 4 and the Note Edge which I love. I have the 2014 Note 10.1, and Note Pro 12.2. The unveiling in a week will now not be 2 Notes. One Note 5 and the S6 Edge! I wanted a Note Edge 2 soooo bad! Then Samsung decides to make the new Notes like the S series...No more removable battery and NOOO MORE Sd Card slots! This was my breaking point. I read every form known to man and I listen to the people all year say that if the note 5 does not have a slot for an SD card or if you can't remove the back for the battery this is going to be a problem with Samsung in no way listened to the people. Also thousands of people were waiting for the Note Edge 2! I don't understand why they just don't listen to what the people want. I have all my device is rooted because I like custom ROMs and I like themes I like tweaking my device I've spent close to $5000 on Samsung merchandise in just the last couple years, only to the watch them not listen to the people.... I love my ass. But I don't know where I'm going from here

@DionWhite33 tbh I loved Samsung now I am going to buy anything but Samsung until they fix many things. They are stupidly slow at updating software and also the updates on their devices has no order. I bought my Note 10.1 2014 in January 2014 and havnt heard a single thing about a new note 10.1 tablet since. Becoming a stupid company and its nice to see them lose share in the industry maybe they will wake up before its too late as they made some great devices in the past hence I own a Note 10.1 and also the S3. But my next tablet and phone wont be Samsung unless they change their mentality.

Yes it's a shame that Samsung's leaving out the sd card and removable battery, but if we get an extremely optimised OS in return for it, then I won't complain. I can work around the sd card limitations, but I refuse to work with a stuttering peace of junk.
Wow 5000 spent? You must really love Samsung lol.
Maybe a normal tablet is the way to go, and use a capacitive stylus with it(jot pro or something)
But I can't think of an excellent Android tablet at the moment that doesn't start with Samsung or Sony.

Yea it's a shame really, the original note was a super hero... But then the note 2014 upgraded the hardware but the software seemed to have slowed down or something like that. Either way it didn't feel the same way as the original one.
I'm never going to buy another Samsung device (in 10 years maybe) because of their negligence of not properly optimising this tablet and just pushing out non critical incremental updates.
the only difference that I can see between a kitkat update from mid 2014 and late 2015 is the addition of a kinetic/friction movement effect on the floating window icons (when you try to swipe away an icon).

This. I'm a pennable tablet nutjob and have gone through so many machines now to find that "ultimate" note taking device for school. The Note 10.1 is just the perfect size and weight (IMO). I've realized at school I'll do just fine with an Android tablet considering when I go home I have a powerful desktop to work from. OneNote Android will suffice as long as I import class lecture PDF/PPTs on my desktop the night before class.
At the moment, this Note or the 12.2 are the only options with true active digitizer support. No other manufacturer is targeting note-takers, it's sad. I'd be all over a Sony tablet if they offered one with a wacom digitizer.

I really think the note tablet is dead, Samsung just doesn't seem interested. They released the tab A with spen but it's mid tier. I would buy it as I am being sold on the 4:3 dimensions but there is literally no development. It's not like we can count on Samsung to upgrade this. It sits at lollipop and will maybe get android M when N has been out for over 6 months

Possibilty of a tablet @ note's event
Apperently samsung'll introduce a tablet at the note's event:
www.slashgear.com/galaxy-note-5-event-may-have-a-tablet-too-06395831/
Let's hope its not a 7 inch tablet like the article suggests.

Thinking of picking up a 10.1 today.

I was looking to get a Transformer Prime before X mas but the constant selays and Asus not being truthful about release dates has turned me off. I would like a tab b4 the holiday and I know the Samsung 10.1 is the next best thing in the dual core world, can ypu guys let me know how the development here is and also pros and cons of the tab to make me confirm on buying a Galaxy tab, thanks.

Just raeding through these forums tells you all you need to know about the 10.1 all you need is one great rom and one great kernal. We got both of them ;-) Just buy one now and you won't regret it
Nice signature pic by the way .
Haha thanks. Yea Ive been in the community for a while. MT3G, Nexus One, Galaxy S 2, im loving Samsungs products, I got a entertainment system and television so a tab wouod be good also, plus I know Pershoot does kernels here and hes the greatest so I think i'll be making a good decision.

Development in the tablet thread is considerably less active than that of the samsung galaxy S2 you have, but thats just representative of the number of owners of phones against tablets.
Although few in number the devs here still push out some great work, you will find ROMs based on the recent android releases and a couple of custom kernels that are both fast and stable.
And as the prices of tablets drop the forums are only going to become more active.
I hear that, I know the Tegra 3 on tge Asus tab is really good but im still wondering why the price on it is so low compared to the Samsung and Apple pads. Etc, asus prime 32gb tabs are the same price as the Galaxy 16 gb tabs. Is it the screen? Quality? I know Asus is not a big brand like Samsung and Apple but im lost.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If you CAN wait, do it.
The new Tegra will be much much faster, and even consume less power. the Galaxy Tab is a good tablet, at least with custom rom/kernel on it. If you want one now, buy it. You won't regret it, especially not after we got CyanogenMod 9.
What is a bit a downer is the proprietary connector on the Galaxy Tab. That sucks, to be honest

No, the "sdcard" is mounted directly on the board. It also isn't an sdcard at all So, there is no way to change the storage capacity.

If you can, buy it at Costco. They have them for about $75 off right now in-store. They also turn their stock really quickly so the one you'll get will be a more recent build which has a new screen design. Costco also has a 90 day return policy so if you're disappointed you're not married to it.
I had a Wi-Fi tab originally and just got a 3G Tab from the UK knowing that the Prime's release was imminent. It's got some lag at times but if you read the first impressions posts in the Prime forum it appears it does too which means s/w still plays a role. I think the biggest advantage with Teg3 will be in gaming and local video playback performance. I don't do much of either so Samung's build quality and better audio and video codecs are what made me re-buy one.
Asus has a pretty poor track record h/w wise and there were a lot of issues with the TF1. The Wi-Fi issue with the Prime that's still not been fully explained should give people pause. Both Acer and Lenovo are coming out with Teg3 tablets in Q1. Production starts on the Lenovo in January. If you like the Tab, keep it. If not, at the end of 90 days you'll have some additional choices. Of all the future tablets announced, Samsung's 11.6" Tab with an end-to-end high resoultion screen and second-gen Exynos processor is the one I'm most excited about. That could make me switch but I'm really happy with my current Tab for the time being.
The 10.1 is a nice tab, but it's starting to get a little long in the tooth. If I didn't get mine as cheaply as I did ($320 on Woot) then I probably would have waited for the next crop of Teg3 and Exynos devices. If you absolutely have to have a tablet right now, the Tab 10.1 is a fantastic choice, but definitely shop around.
Yea. I went to Best Buy a little while ago and played with the 10.1 and found it very laggy... even though I know people been using it all day and custom roms and kernels would fix it I still realized that I think it will be better to wait a few weeks for the Prime for the same amount of $$ of a 16 gb Galaxy tab I could get a 32gb Prime thats ICS ready.

Yeah, although I want a 10.1 tab, the fact that it's equally priced as a new quad-core tablet with more space and ports is preventing me from doing so. I can only hope they drop the price in light of the release of the new quad core beast...

Should I buy it???

I know its on personal requirements but if someone can suggest...
I am an engineering student (age 20) having galaxy s2 bought 4 months ago,, i wonder if it will be a good decision to buy note 2...i mean that is it usable...not too big to use as a phone ???
Or should i wait till next year for something like galaxy s4...??

Up to you but you wont see anything better until next year around this time when note 3 comes.. from my personal experience and from most of note 1 owners once you use the note for several days you CAN NOT use anything smaller..

This.
Going to anything smaller just doesnt work anymore.
And even though most of my friends and family who say they'll never get one, can't seem to put down my phone when i come over. I think they are waiting for the day their contract is up :cyclops:
What about the s3?
Also I think this might belong in the q and a section instead.
i tried the note 1 liked got use to the size but was bit issues with pocket for me..i dont wear tight jeans..try it out and you can always return it like i did..new note 2 sure is a nice device i just got a GS3 when it came out here in US was the lucky few to grab one before anyone else..i dont really even talk much on the phone..mostly a data user
I would recommend the note 2 definitely.
I started on an iphone 3g to iphone 4. I found about custom themes/roms on android then got a galaxy s2. the s2 dominated apple iphones. when I saw the note 1 come out I was like sweet, my priority is web/movies. when I got the note 1 I couldn't put it down. I would never downgrade in size, but that's because I use it primarily for facebook, the web and movies. unfortunately I hard bricked it awhile ago installing a wrong zip file
so I can't wait till the note 2 comes out. I will be all over it like a fly on sh!t
I would recommend it. I had an iPhone up until spring this year when I went to HK and bought a SGN1 and now whenever I handle my iphone I just can't get used to that small screen anymore. The large screen area of the SGN really makes a huge difference. Even though my SGN1 is only 6 months old I feel it had some shortcomings (primarily lag related) which should be rectified with the SGN2.
I agree. Once you have the Galaxy Note, you can never go back to a smaller screen. I was hoping the Note 2 would be 6". *sigh*
cant wait for galaxy note 2 to come out and very disappointed with Samsung as always they delay the product by 5-6 weeks after they show it,they should put it as soon as possible to get the customers and look crapple they going to rls next week and they only show it on the 12 damn crap iphone and hate that piece of crap widget phone, then next one will be Samsung Galaxy S5 by the time [18 months contract finish]
Most probably s4 is coming on Feb 2013...so i will go for that.

I've had 3 galaxy note ( 1st model) and i can say that galaxy ote is one of the greatest phones every. don't care about the screen. it's wonderful even if is very big.but you will be proud to have it in your pants.
I see more and more people using their phone not for calling/speaking to others, but for music, Web Browsing, Social media and watching media content. Adding to all this, even if you call others very frequently, people use bluetooth headsets or hands-free. So, I tend to feel that the 'Galaxy Note being too big' argument doesn't hold water anymore. As long as you can figure out a way to fit into your pocket, or keep it safe when you move around, it is definitely a sure to have phone.
I'm changing from S2(i9100) - S2(i9100G) - Galaxy Note(N7000)... then now i'm waiting for Note 2...
can't really go back to smaller screen, hurts my eyeballs
and also hooked on Super Amoled.... LCD are just not that level... :fingers-crossed:

Its quite an amazing deal alright. Even if you bought it, swapped a line in and cancelled the account it would be cheaper than buying it on Swappa.com. this guy said it here first, though, i believe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036150
If the "cheap feel" of the GN10.1 bothered you you are going to REALLY hate the GN2. It is a quality piece of tech but feels very light and plasticky. Honestly you will probably put a case on it anyway so who cares, but its not going to win any "look and feel" awards.

I'm waiting for the 1 inch Note IV that I can wear like a watch
I don't see the need for a Note 6.5 inch. Too small too take serious notes but too big to carry like a phone. Kind of a nothing burger.
No possible way for 6.5 inch note, unless it replaces or is offset of their 7" tabs.
That somethin we said when the note 1 came out but still people buy it right
Well theres a market for a Note phone, tablet, probably 7" too, but i dunno about holding 6.3" phone to my head, nor 10.1 phone. Tablet sure, but....i understand they think if they can take the bezel away, but not as a phone. We are approaching the limit.
My wife has a NoteII, and it's a great phone. If I could find a practical way to carry it (too big for a belt case) , I would get one in a heartbeat. To me the "look and feel" of NoteII is the same as Note10.1.
Just played with the Note II at the Sprint store. It is big enough to take notes on if you write small.

This is kinda about the note 2. To mods. I am not trying to sell or link to anything here on XDA. I just want some opinions.
So I want to trade my Note 10.1 for a New note 2. Does that seem okay? I know sometimes if people have an available upgrade through their carrier that you could probably get the phone for two or three hundred. So it would be a good deal I think. I think the hardest part will be finding someone that doesn't mind using up their upgrade. Anyway thoughts and commets welcome.
My phone has bit the dust and I dont really have money to use for a phone so thats the only reason for the question

Should this be in another forum? LOL, but anyway, got my note 2, love every moment of it, and now my note 10.1 feels relatively choppy. Hopefully jelly bean (whenever it gets to me officially) will solve it.
Getting a Note II today...Fed Ex can't get here soon enough. I'm also in the market for a tablet and narrowed it down to the Note 10.1 or the Nexus 10. For those of you that have both Notes does it make sense or is it redundant?
Maybe I'm backwards
But I got the galaxy note 10.1 AFTER my galaxy note 2. The galaxy note 2 is AMAZING! It's such a big upgrade to the original note. To be honest I don't really need the tablet but I felt having a bigger screen would be more productive. Im lucky my boyfriend decided to buy this as a Christmas present. The phone is definitely snappier. It just works how it should. Remember everything is optimised probably mostly for the phone . I feel the tablet could be a lot tighter but then again the note 2 does have jellybean. The screen is a lot nicer than the tablet but again higher ppi. If you replace the tablet you might miss the bigger screen to be honest. You can work with it, but it's still small for drawing. Probably note taking will be alright. I'll admit my phone is pretty much deals with everything I need. Definitely the smartest phone I've had.

My boyfriend was actually trying to put me off getting the tablet because he said it's just a bigger version of my phone. However, I've been using it a lot lately because I'm too lazy to use my laptop. I'm going to prove to him I'm going to use the galaxy note 10.1. I have wasn't sceptical about tablets as well but the bigger screen estate really does help. Particularly with split screen, and if I want to read magazines or manga. But it's up to you. I especially got the note because it's so cheap right now :3

Well, the fact there are 2 pages of comments in 2 days should tell you that GN10.1 owners are interested in discussing the GN2 as it relates to the GN10.1. Since they are sister devices this thread makes perfect sense. The mods get that.
With all the garbage repetitive threads in this forum, this one actually makes sense.

Question for those with the Note II and the GN10.1. Do you find the Note II real estate sufficient to take notes on the fly as you can with the GN10.1 or do you have to write so small that it becomes difficult?
It's been hard from me to try this out at the store as all of the Note II's have magnetic anti-theft devices attached which play hell with the pen input.
I suppose I could try writing really small on my GN10.1 to simulate the experience. Also I could write more often in landscape mode which would provide the same basic width as portrait mode with the 10.1.

Note 8 (2014 Edition) Rumor Thread

I thought it would be a good idea to have a place for all the Note 8 (2014 Edition) frustration and rumors. I am currently holding off on upgrading to the Note 8 because (1) the 10-inch is just too big and (2) the small note requires a carrier contract. So, anyone have a good rumor?

There didn't seem to be a lot of rumours before the Note 8 came out; just the announcement. I expect it will have the same specs as the new Note 10 and a wifi edition will be out in Canada next April. I will immediately run to the store to buy one.

According to this article ,The 8.0 did not sell as well as Samsung expected.
http://bgr.com/2013/09/27/8-inch-tablet-sales-ipad-mini/
I think they may end up focusing on the 7 inch model in the future unless they can bring the price of the 8" down below $250.00 retail.
Samsung has too many tablets in too many sizes and its confusing consumers. And the Note 8 is too expensive. As Apple had proven time and again, one size fits many.
Samsung should make two tablets: one big (~10"), one small (~7 or 8") with a starting price < $250. Other variants with more memory or 4G can be extra.
I really like my N5100, I wouldn't trade it for any other device on the market, but I couldn't recommend it (over competitors like the Nexus 7 or iPad) to anyone who didn't have very unusual needs.
7", 8" I'll take either as long as I don't have to wait till April to get it.
waiting for a borderless note 8

That article let tries to claim 8 inch tablets are not popular, which is bs. The Acer tablet mentioned was not selling well due to a crappy screen. The Note 8 may not have sold as many just due to its higher price. I MUCH prefer the 8 inch size, over 7. Plus Android tablets have a lot of competition between themselves.
Apple hasn't sold as many as they expected either. The Note 8 is far better than the ipad mini. It has far more features and a better screen.
What they stated may not even be true.
After owning the note 8 l don't want a 7 inch tablet. The 8 is a perfect size. Just want a a nicer one

I agree with both those statements, I bought the 3G 8.0 because it was at a price to good to miss, £300 brand new. Even though I had the 10.1 3G, inn a gadget whore... sue me haha.
But found very quickly the 10.1 was being left on the shelf more and more, 7" would be too small, the 8.0 ideal, it's not too heavy and is a lot more "mobile" in my opinion, I would just like to have it with a higher resolution screen.

I have a 10inch Asus transformer pad... note8 and nexus 7-2013...and trust me note 8 is the best... I hope the note8 with the features of note10, 2014 edition is going to be the ultimate device

So what are you all hoping for in an updated note 8?
Maybe:
Usb 3,
Higher res screen,
Faster processor,
3gigs of ram,
At least 32gig internal storage,
Better camera with led,
So what do you all want?

This is what kills it for me, kind of. :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449717
Things being pushed down your throat, eFuse / warranty and the knox BYOD when eFuse just blows the OD in BYOD (Own Device) itself.
How is it an "Own Device" when Samsung and Corporate IT Get to decide that you can no longer use the device,in the BYOD env because you decided to do your Own thing with the device you Own.
Basically which, blows the eFuse, so first your hardware warranty is gone,do note that it's manufacturer who is deliberately damaging the hardware you own by knowingly doing an irreversible damage to the device (a condition it was not in when you bought it, and any software you installed did not do that). Though they have full right to deny the warranty, they cannot alter the state of a device with your ownership to an irreversible state (blowing a register in the chip) and declining warranty based on that.
Does it smell fishy?? Just putting in a point here, I know there could be a million examples otherwise).
and secondly you are not able to use in the BYOD environment because by the very definition that the device is compromised.)
I do thoroughly understand security concerns , however when the solution's implementation invalidates the very concept then something is very wrong in the thinking.
so I want them to think a bit more, on who owns what, if they don't want people to root, then make them devices un-rootable and let people decide what they want to own.
If they really want to emphasize security, should make it better & guaranteed secure irrespective of device state. That is something i'll look forward to.
sorry for the not so on the topic rant, but I feel it's a place for healthy discussion , on something related that might matter to lot of users.
Note: Some workarounds seem to be already in progress to avoid the eFuse triggering on some devices.however, that is not the point of my post.
Personally, I'm only interested in a possible Note 8.0 2015/2016 edition.
Better camera
Led flash
4gb ram
2.4ghz big .little soc
Much better gpu
HD screen
Better battery life (removable battery?)
Spen with 2 side buttons, eraser, tilt and rotation tech.
64gb internal storage

I would pay good money for that too. Money isnt an option its something I want

[Q] Is it worth the buy ?

Hi, I am getting a gadget that I choose as a gift and since I already have a nice phone/laptop/desktop all other stuff. I am thinking about getting a tablet. I am gonna use it for reading PDF in classroom and taking notes so it needs to have a stylus, so I can get rid of bulky books and notepads. I am stuck between choosing note 10.1 and Nvidia Shield.
How futureproof is Note ?
Shield already has Android L update. Does Note also has it ? If not will it get it ? When ?
How reliable is the stylus ? will it cover the needs of an engineer ?
Would you recommend buying the Note ? Why ?
Thanks in advance

For your needs I would consider note 10.1 2014 here is why:
No manufactures have Spen as good as Samsung note, hand down and it's very reliable.
Highest Resolution for tablet - is top notch for reading
External SDcard support
3gb ram - the highest in all tablet devices
Note 10.1 will get Android L.
I just got a note 4 (newest Samsung phone) and I don't see any real advantage over the note 10.1 2014 except for a little bit more advance Spen (easier to share and use and added twice the sensitives but I don't see any advantage). So based on this the note 10.1 will be a keeper for 3-4 years or more, unless in the future there will be a new invented feature that you may want enough to switch.
well the tablet is now a year old, but the hardware still holds up. Samsung released several devices way after this with almost exactly the same specs. I'd say it has another year left of still being somewhat high-end but like all technology, newer stuff will be better. On the software front i'd expect a long wait for lollipop and then sammy will probably stop its updates there. The dev community is slow on this thing so i wouldn't get your hopes up for updates that way. Sure, it could happen but don't buy this tablet assuming it will happen.
Yes, I agree with all the comments. I'd say wait for a month or so as Samsung will release note 10.1 2015 edition. The pricing of the new edition should not be an issue considering the competition out there in the market.
Stylus - certainly the note for an Android. Surface Pro 3 is nice if you need more, but it is big and heavy. Note pro 12 is too big for easy 1-hand reading in my opinion too (I can just palm the 10.1). I like mine and will be keeping it at least another year as my primary reading/surfing device. I have not been quite as happy taking handwriting notes on it as I thought I would be.
