615 heating issues - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i'm planning to buy moto x play bt i have heard there are heating issues on sd 615
I'm a normal user, I never play games. I only use my phone for chatting n camera
The thing is the battery is huge so while charging it might get heated
Except from that do you guys feel the heating issue will populate for a normal user like me ?
I'll also root the phone to remove bloatware freez few apps if needed
Thanks for ur comments.

It's too early to say. The Mi 4i does have heating issues with the same chipset, but there's no way of knowing whether the Moto will have the same issues until review units go out. I'd recommend waiting for some reviews to trickle in to make sure there are no issues, because if there aren't I feel like this phone will be a winner (for us non mobile gamers at least).
Also, Motorola is pretty good with having no bloat on their phones, which alleviate your need to freeze any bloatware apps (though I still plan to root, there are tons of other uses for it).
I'm hoping for this phone to be a winner, hopefully Motorola managed to build upon the well-received Moto G 3rd Gen.

@akash.mahadeshwar Apparently the overheating issue on the Xiaomi was fixed with a software update, so may not be that much of a problem by the time the Moto X Play hits the shelves:

I may sound stupid but the deal breaker with the moto G is the lack of a gyroscope. No photospheres in 2015 is a bad cheap out, man.

Turbo charger included in the box? An article was stating that x play won't include the turbo charger but only a quick charger.

Only warm when it charge. but I don't play game on it accept "Pinball Rocks". Just warm not hot at all.
It's a turbo charge but I don't thing it any faster than my 1.8A charger. In Canada, some carrier sell it with turbo charger some don't. So it depend who you buy it from.

You guys never had a LG G3 to know what overheating is. The Moto x play is a refrigerator! No need to worry.

Use CPU-Z and tell us what exactly is the temperature of the CPU and the battery are? "overheat" is so suggestive.

Regarding of battery temperature, a normal heating is around 40 Celsius degrees, and for cpu can go up to 70. You just need to start worry if the battery temp goes up to 45, and the cpu goes up to 80.
If I'm not mistaken, cpuz gives only the battery temp. Cputemp will give you the cpu temp. That way you can monitor both.

OK. This is good. My Moto x play have battery template about 31 to 35 when charge or playing games. CPU is about 40 with light load (net surfing).
Is there number are good? Where did you get it?

Nice temp. Mine is about that too. I've got these number reading several forums/threads and all because I own a LG G3 that gets pretty hot. So I had to learn about it. I don't have the links right now, but I can search after, if you want them. Hope it helps XD

Moto E - Review from a G owner.

Ok, first things first, let me just say this phone absolutely unequivocally rocks. I was expecting this sub-£100 device to be pretty crappy in comparison to the Moto G which I already own. Nope. I was completely wrong.
I bought the Moto E three days ago from O2 as they were first to stock it online, it cost me £79. That's it, £79. No minimum top-up or delivery charge, which I'd also like to mention arrived the next morning.
First impression out the box, if you closed your eyes and held both the G and E together you'd be pushed to notice a difference between the two. The Moto E possibly feeling slightly chunkier, yet smaller at the same time?? Even with both eyes open they're virtually identical, and the similarities don't stop there.
The first thing that truly wowed me was that screen. For £79 you're getting an amazing screen for your money, it has the EXACT same clarity and vividness that the Moto G has, and to be honest I think it may actually be better (colour and backlight wise) , albeit very (very!) slightly smaller. Very crisp and sharp, I've never seen this on a phone less than £110-120. Amazing.
Next, CPU. Yes it's only dual core but I'm yet to experience any significant lag, if at all. Even Chrome is a breeze (which is nowadays renowned at being super slow on lower-end mobiles). GPU seems fine also, having tried Temple Run and Subway Surfer, they both never dipped any frame rates. So I can't really fault the onboard processors. Again: amazing.
Camera quality is not spectacular, but guys, this is a budget phone. To be fair the camera is perfect for everyday snaps, I doubt you'd really want more on a daily basis, not unless you're a professional photographer or have £500 for an iPhone.
The loudspeaker, from what I can tell has moved to the front of the phone and is located where the bottom silver bezel is. The top silver bezel obviously being the in-call speaker.
The battery (nearly 2000mAh!!!) is still on it's first charge since it arrived (yesterday morning) and is still reading 15% even after some fierce app installing and exploring.
Besides those main points I'm struggling to find any other major differences between the E and it's older brother.
Motorola are also bringing out new Grip-Shell back covers that replace the stock battery cover and provide a rubberised band around the phones perimeter (like a bumper case, but integrated into the phone). Can't wait to get my hands on them too, though I should think that will be a few weeks yet.
My final verdict is that this phone is an epic ground-breaker, other companies are truly going to struggle to compete with this device in regards to everything: cost, features etc.
My advice to you: find £80, buy this phone and a lottery ticket.

Thanks for the review. I'm surprised about the screen being so good when it's nearly 30% less in PPI. Running so well on low specs is moto's specialty so that doesn't surprise me, neither the poor camera.
I still think the moto g is a better deal, especially when I got my 16gb version fro. Tesco for just over £100
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Not as surprised as I was, I was expecting a grainy narrow angle screen, like on the low-end samsungs. Complete opposite. I would probably agree with you about the Moto G though, that's still a bargain of the year considering it's specs.
I think the E will be aimed towards people that don't really want to spend a lot, don't really care about super-dooper specs, and just want a phone that works well.
Dont expect more, here in India its costsjust half than Moto G dual 16GB. So what it offers is good enough.

I have a little concern for the CPU. So no lag, no problem ?
I'm coming from Xperia U and i would not have lags
I can honestly say that I am yet to experience any lag through everyday use. Just because it's dual core doesn't mean it's going to be equivalent to other dual core phones (ehem Samsung).
wish the camera had Autofocus too

It does have auto focus.
I got my Moto G yesterday (XT1022, Indian version) and I paired it up with a 32 GB memory card that arrived today.
A few points.
The screen is pretty sharp. It's not the best but it's a HUGE step up from the Samsung Galaxy Y, HTC explorer and the Galaxy Ace and even the Sony Xperia M that I have plenty of experience with in this price range. It doesn't match up with the G though. But then again, I can always tell the difference between my N5 and N7. So, yeah...
2. No USB cable is a bummer. I have 2 more lying about and I transfer data over WiFi or cloud though and it's not really a problem for me but is it really that much more expensive to give a charger and cable separately?
3. I don't really care about benchmarks. If you've seen enough, they stop making sense and I've stopped caring about anything other than pure graphics benchmarks. But anyway, general performance is good, especially on ART. However you hit it's limits pretty fast and it is a good bit slower in general - even simple stuff like hitting a settings option gives makes the phone hesitate a tiny bit longer. But then, I can spot those on an N5. It's either equal to or slightly worse than the Moto G and people tell me don't see it at all. YMMV. I haven't this phone around
. so I can't really comment about the E just yet.
4. Touch response is good. None of the annoying stuff you see on most low end phones.
5. No freezes or hiccups so far. Software seems solid
6. Loudspeaker is LOUD. Try the pyxis ringtone to get all that loudness out
7. Both sim slots support 3G, but you might have to change this setting in dial sim setup
8. The headset provided is Meh. The Sony Xperia M headset is still SO much better. And the microphone appears to work in the E.
Those are all the things off the top off my head. Let me know of you guys have any questions.

I'm concerned about the 32gb coupled with no sd slot. They're putting 4k video recording capability on there (great!) but it seems limited without adequate storage capacity. Not a big fan of cap buttons. I'm also unsure about the difference a quad hd display makes on a 5.2" screen and more importantly if it's worth the tradeoff in battery life.
Other than those things I'm loving this phone. I'm a big moto fan and can't wait to see it in stores.
it is sad that its not going to have ext sd. i wasted my money on a 64gb extreme SD. Well ill just put it in my nexus 9. Really hope the turbo goes to 64gb internal though. Specs sound awesome i just wish it had a K1 64 bit in there, im sure android 5.0 and the 805soc will be extremely fluid, i just dont want to get it then a month later here that devs are really unleashing the potential of 64bit socs. Most importantly for me is the long battery life and awesome camera. 21 mp sounds nice so hopefully it will take some amazing photos and be quick. OIS better be there too. My GS4 takes awesome photos in HDR i just wish it was snappier. Love the fact they went with 5.2 qhd, perfect moto! If they want this thing to sell out then they need at least a 5mp front facing and an awesome price point. Most importantly, dont you dare put all that bloat in there!

why would 5.0 be the determining factor??? Even if the phone ships with 4.4.4 it will probably be the first device (maybe second to the Moto X) that will receive the update....
im holding out hope that it ships with 5.0...but i would imagine it would only be maybe a month or so before it is updated...it will be updated before any non-Moto devices get 5.0...

the 2013 Moto Droids were basically the first phones on 4.4...the Droids run as close to stock android as you can get without being stock they get updated crazy fast...
It has an ips display? Are you sure? The active display is pointless then. It would kill the battery.
Well, I couldn't be happier. I love the Nexus 6 specs, but i just don't want a phablet. So i was back to the same problem...M8, Moto X+1, z3v. But...they each are missing something i really wanted. I got my Galaxy Nexus 3 years ago...and when I got that I kept thinking the next phone would FINALLY be the phone, the one I've been waiting for. But, until now, nothing's come along. I'm FINALLY happy to pay full retail price to keep my unlimited data and get a sweet phone.
Downsides? I do wish it was IP67/8 rated, had the expandable memory, and a customizable back, but those are far from deal breakers. Now, i just want the price, release data, and if there'll be a play store version (I'm assuming highly unlikely...has there ever been a Droid in the Play Store?)
Not a play version, but there have been Dev. editions with unlockable bootloaders.

The waterproof coating they use (assuming its the same as the 2013 moto x) is really good. Other than having to wait for your speaker to dry out to sound normal you could basically dunk it under water without concern. I didn't do it...but other people did

I'm wondering this as well. What sources state that it will have an ips display?
The nexus 6 seems to have amoled, so it really only makes sense for Motorola to continue the trend and support their active display.
The only reason I wouldn't get this instead of the Nexus 6 is because I just can't have a locked bootloader and root that is virtually impossible to crack until it's too late ie. the Droid Ultra/Maxx and all devs have moved on to more developer friendly phones
If I'm right...don't they usually release/announce the Developer Verizon months later? Cause unless it'll be within a month of the initial release, I can't keep dealing with my GNex. I've run every ROM out there... and this thing needs to be euthanized

Since some people seem to think Nexus 5x is overpriced/underspec'ed and think that the Moto x play or style are more viable options, what are some of your reasons for getting one or the other?
I personally pre-ordered the Nexus 5x but am reconsidering because the Moto X play is similarly sized but with a bigger screen, expandable storage (32 gb may not be enough or pushing is close), and way bigger battery.
Let me and the rest of the community know your for and against for each.
For Nexus 5X: Finger print scanner. Guaranteed updates for a long time - unlike moto X 2014 on at&t (not getting 6.0) - which for me is a huge deal and causes me to distrust Motorola. Smaller form factor. Better camera in low light (I'm hoping, but it sounds like it will be).

Verizon Moto X isn't getting it either. Even the Moto E was axed. That's really bad that phones only a year old is not going to get the update. Like you, I really lost respect for Moto

Moto E was just released this year, and its not getting 6.0. That's real sad, for me its a no brainer to go the Nexus route.

Thats interesting I didn't notice that Moto left out the Moto x 2014 from the update list. Maybe it will be added later? Or did they explicitly say it will be left out? Also the Moto X play was the intriguing phone for me since it's practically the same size (within 3 mm in all dimensions). But way bigger battery, storage and screen (bittersweet, may be too big).
Nexus 5x for me has better screen size but still bigger footprint than size suggests. Also 32 gb may be too little especially with increasing app size. Updates are key to me.

If timely updates are key to you, then the Nexus, all the way.

Yeah people that bought the carrier moto X should have seen that coming. The moto X pure was released for a reason. The carrier version was for people on a budget that wanted a decent performing smartphone and didn't care about rooting or Android version numbers

Moto X is too big. The Nexus 5 is too big as well but it is closer to a phone than a phablet.

Actually if you look at the spec list and even the phone arena size compare tool with overlap you will notice that the Moto X play is only very very close to the footprint of the 5x but with a bigger screen and its thicker but has micro sd slot. Only thing that doesnt seem great is the performance which is hit or miss for some. It even has CMod.
Also I pre ordered the 5x as well so I'm not here to sing praise but I noticed the X play and wanted to get people's opinions.
TL;DR - I'm returning the Moto X Pure (for now) in order to give the Nexus 5X a shot.
Here's my opinion on 5X vs Moto X (2015 Pure in my case).
I'll start off saying that I've become incredibly picky with finding the perfect phone for me, or at least close enough. There's no such thing as the perfect phone for everyone.
My general requirements (desires) are:
Decent processor/storage/battery/camera. Top notch specs aren't required.
Rooted and unlocked bootloader or the ability to flash custom roms if not fully unlocked
Stock or close to stock android or CM12.x
Compatible with Verizon (still have unlimited and not giving it up)
I'm coming from an LG G2 (Verizon VS980) which I ran from 11/2014 until 09/2015. It was rooted and running CM12/12.1 or a variant. It ran great, few complaints other than battery life (a little over 3hr SOT max, often less). 32gb was never an issue for my usage and I don't do any gaming so top spec'd processor doesn't really matter as long as normal OS navigation is smooth and fast.
I preordered the G4, but the lack of development and having to run LG's skin turned me away. I also had issues with missed touches and some strange screen glitching that appeared to be related to defective HW. I returned this and went back to the G2.
I thought the Moto X Pure (2015) would be perfect. It has a good processor, battery and camera. The fast charging is fantastic and gets me from 20ish% to full on my 45+ min commute using a QC 2.0 Anker car charger. I love the weight and the feel of the device, feels premium to me. But it's a bit too large even though I have large hands and can grip fully around the device without issue. 5.2-5.5 is the sweet spot for me. I've been experiencing a lot of lag, and honestly the G2 feels a lot faster. I didn't expect to have lag with the Moto X especially since it's mostly stock Android. I also haven't had good battery life even being rooted, unlocked and running greenify along with some other wakelock-reducing tweaks (wifi, BT, location are always on and I don't turn off syncing of anything in my google account). Phone is off the charger daily around 5-5:30am and while I have the ability to charge at work and to/from work, if I don't, I get around 18hrs off the charger and MAX of 3hrs SOT. Maybe that's good, but it just doesn't seem to cut it for me.
I'm going with the 5X in hopes that the size will feel better, the 1080p won't draw as much power so the downsizing from 3000 to 2700mah will be a moot point. I think the camera will live up to my expectations. I'm into photography and have a Canon 6D along with some nice L glass that I pull out when I need a good photo. Since I don't do any gaming or run apps that really hog any memory, I don't expect the 2gb RAM to be an issue (it was fine on the G2).
I should know soon enough if the 5X will be the right phone for me. I'm optimistic, but if it's not, then I'll be able to compare to the Moto X Pure and decide to keep the 5X or to repurchase the Moto X Pure. They're the only 2 phones on the market that seem to meet my criteria.
My apologies for the long-winded reply, but hopefully this will help someone else.

I'm on of those who had a bad experience with the Moto X Play. Some tell me theirs has no lag at all, mine lags for the most simple tasks. Swiping down the quick toggles while inside Google Play Music is the worst. I can't recommend it.

agree 100% what you said in the long post. Our priorities and values are in line. But I am coming from a moto x dev
I'm having the same difficulty deciding as well. I think performance will be mostly equal as will battery. I never cared about a finger print scanner, and the updates will be not that far away from each other (i'm confident moto will have it by month's end, which might beat some peoples Nexus 5x/6p shipments). The biggest thing here for me will be the moto add ons like moto voice, turbopower charger and front speakers compared to the Nexus 5x's smaller yet preferred size and most likely better camera.

OK first of all those are CARRIER decisions that Moto has nothing to do with. Which is why the are releasing it for the Pure Editions (which they control). Blaming moto isn't fair, blame your carriers.

First the Nexus 5 was my favorite phone of all time. I still miss it. BUT it obviously had some shortcomings. Battery life wasn't one of it's strong points and even though 6.0 will be more efficient I'm going to be in the camp that if you were not happy with 18hrs/3hr SOT then you won't be happy with the 5X battery time is my guess. I'm really torn myself, I think I'm going to skip over this round and wait until the 820 SoC phones come out.

Why should I blame the carriers when I had the Pure? They were slow after 5.0 and that's a problem

Alot of those Moto perks were likely determined/designed while Google still owned Moto. Now that they dont, I'd be very wary of them keeping it up down the line past a year. Of course, most of you will have a new phone by then anyways.

Not so very satisfied = back in the box

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed.
Having used an 810 phone before I somehow thought that the slowdowns of the M9 was a HTC thing but it's comical how identical the Z5c and M9 behaves when using the phone playing games etc. HTC fixed most of the problems with updates and my hope was that Sony should have learned by what other oems had done before releasing a not so very optimized base.
My first Z5z was a white one and the screen froze so I changed to a black one. A couple of days ago I noticed that pictures taken is really blurry in the left corner. The thing also slows down pretty bad after a while and the camera easy takes 5-6 seconds to start up if not already in memory, not an easy thing to do with only 2gb of ram and an unoptimized base.
The same goes for the phone app and first I thought that I had got another one with touch errors.
And... It's not a faulty phone, it's a good one out of the last batch. I noticed I've started to enjoy my G4 again, it have never felt so snappy and I can live the subpar battery.
Well let's put it in the box and wait for the next update.
I have to say that I'm a little worried about the Nexus 6P. Being a Nexus there will be great kernels and we can always redo the 810 to a 808 with a better gpu and far less constraints.
End of rant...

I'm not satisfied particularly with the camera.
Yeah, the free RAM is so poor. And the performance (which is REALLY ACEPTABLE) is lower than the Nexus 5 (with 5.1.1), probably because of the free RAM. (This could be fixed with a future update).
I consider that the "average camera" (according to some users) of the Nexus 5 is much better. Well, at least with photos took with a 15cm-25cm distance (HDR+ in the 5). There is a big difference in quality. (And I tried with Superior Auto / Manual / 20MP / 8MP / etc).
Best of the Z5 Compact: The battery life (It doubles my previous phone SoT over the whole day) and The fingerprint sensor. Rotation works really fast too. I didn't try the GPS but I tried to lock indoor pretty good
(In the contrary: My N5 GPS really sucks soo bad. I compared it with a Moto G 1st gen GPS last year and lost in every way).
The Z5C temps are so good compared to my Nexus 5 (never pass 50C while in the N5 I'm usually throttling the phone at 60C+, but don't forget it has a 2.3Ghz CPU it's easy to throttle that with intensive usage, touchboost, etc).
I'm expecting an OTA in the Z5 Compact. Our kernel is from the 2nd of September. I think I have 30 days to return it to Amazon. But so far I'll be coming back to the N5 and probably buying a 5X (and a hand enhancement "Deus Ex" style in order to be able to use it with one hand LoL).
I think the problem with throttling is that Sony tries to keep the phone to cool really. Playing a game will throttle within 10 minutes. The same game on G4 never goes into throttling, it's just the 810s that behave that way so far. The S6 also gets there, but it takes way longer and it will not be as notable.
Yes, an update or two is in order. I hope they will put camera, gallery and core apps in memory or at least give them way higher prio .
Skickat från min LG-H815 via Tapatalk
Yes I think there is a mayor preference over the lower 4 cores, to save temperature (more than battery life).
But I think the bad performance is generated by bad RAM management, there is no way this phone has only 600-700MB~ of Free RAM, sometimes just 400MB.
If you installed Android 5.0 with memory leaks (not 5.1.1) in the Nexus 5 (and your ram is reduced below 600-700MB after a few days or a few memory leaks reproductions) You would see a reduced performance in general.
The Z5 Compact should have more than 1GB or 1.1GB of Free RAM (in general) like the Nexus 5.
Not just 700 or less MB.
And here is the 2nd reason I think I'll come back to a Nexus: "I think there are a lot of Sony processes/libs/etc hidden under the carpet and consuming a LOT of RAM".
Regarding the kernel performance, I wouldn't worry about that. While it is something that can be fixed with a custom kernel, I think that Sony will tweak and optimize our kernel in future updates.
Well just like i said go watch some IFA video's of the z5c and you will see it run good and without problems so this will all be fixable with updates.

Yea and those IFA models where running on a lower fw build also so its weird that sony releases this kinda laggy update. But maybe they didn't want to put in much time into this update and rather put all their focus on the marshmellow update that should be out next month.
Possible, I also imagine there was only a very few apps installed at IFA. Still a shame, a phone app taking well over 5 secs to open or the world's fastest focus in the slowest camera in the business. It's a bit of a catch 22 and I really don't think Sony can afford a low reputation at this point. For the premium money asked the ware should really be premium. Right now it's a rip off, my half price Chinese knockoffs is as good, but not water ? proof

Ok, many people say it fix when Sony update firmware but my question is why Sony release their flagships when these defects. They don't try their devices? They have hurry? Is not better have a good/finished mobile?

I don't talk it down, I just observe. I own a few flagships and none is perfect, but most are in better form when released. I didn't buy it to be my main phone but to have when travel, but I'm still a bit disappointed...
Written from my G4 because 1. I noticed that Z5c is very slow on my WiFi network and just don't have the energy to find out why. 2. I can't play the Hobbit on it because it starts to lag pretty bad after 10 minutes. And that's what I'm doing in my sofa right now
(and I'm pretty worried about Nexus 6P and SD 810, even knowing I'm not going to stay stock even 1 boot)

Longevity of the 6P?

Hi, I owned a 6P back in December and decided to get a refund as I had 3 faulty models (the headphone jack made a weird white noise all the time). My situation is that I've since then used the OnePlus 3 and the iPhone 7 128gb, but both had their flaws (my iPhone 7 was also faulty and a bit boring). I did love the 6P, apart from the fault obviously, so I am wondering how it has held up over the year, is it just as fast and more importantly, smooth and stutter free as it was on day one? How has the battery held up? Has anyone had any headphone jack issues?
I'm thinking I may skip the Pixel phones and go back to a 6P and save the extra £300 or so.
A bit of feedback would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get the 6P again!
No negatives for me since November 2015! It has 9 lives like a cat!

I got the white. I really like white though.
I only had the slight bulging of my tempered glass right lower corner but with some heating trick with a blow dryer and pressure resolved it permanently. It had been in place since November 2015. I have no problems at all. I turn off animations so I avoid the issues of that sort. It runs smooth and fast for me. I'll be using it for the next year. I typically keep devices for 2 years minimum. It gets updates like a charm. The only thing I wish improved is loudness via headphone jack.

Have you compared it to aluminium? I do like the gold, maybe I should risk it?!

Yea a little it's still pretty good normally I get 16 hours of use without plugging in but before Android 7 someone had put in a Trojan that allowed them to record my screen and had to factory reset to get rid of it and some how they get back in after a few days I know because they would turn off drive encryption that would allow Android to check the boot to make sure nothing was altered. During the Trojan issue I would get about 5 hours of battery use with normal usage if I stayed off my phone it would last 12 hours.
Only other way I knew is they got access to my bank using the bank app and would turn on quick logon which it emailed me saying it's in a new device so I was able to check the log says they logged In from a ip In California Time stamped In California.
First time I was sleeping second time I was on my phone getting the emails of them setting it up it was scary wish more banks kept log in records to see what other accounts they had access to. So for saving passwords I use keeper now instead of chrome

What's doze like in the 7.0 update? When I originally had a 6P, doze hardly worked on 6.0.1, it dropped 2% an hour
I can't really say I figured my trojan issue out just as 7 hit
