One-handed mode? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is officially phablet-sized, but I haven't heard anything about a one-handed mode similar to iPhone's "reachability" or the offerings of LG and Samsung.
If they are not going to offer a smaller flagship, how could this have been missed? I'm sure there was a similar discussion when the Nexus 6 came out.
Imagine:
Hold home and swipe right shrinks entire display to bottom right corner. Hold home and swipe left shrinks entire display to bottom left. Repeat to expand to full screen.
And before anyone mentions Xposed, I shouldn't have to root my phone for this.
Something like this is sorely missing from stock Android. I was surprised this was missing from Lollipop on the Nexus 6 and even more so that it was apparently left out of Android M.
Edit:
Android already has the ability to change resolution and DPI without a reboot. The app framework already arranges the layout based on these parameters. Would it really be too much more difficult to add this?

Just get a smaller phone
Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk

There are no smaller current flagship phones on Verizon with near stock Android.
It used to be normal sized (4 to 5 inch) or phablet sized. Then phablet size became the new normal and phablets got bigger still. Now Motorola doesn't even offer a choice if you want top specs. Even the low/mid range Moto G is big at 5".

If you want "top specs", that includes screen. And that comes with the larger screens and their higher resolution for video playback. If you want smaller, you want less spec and so other phones are an option. You can always flash a custom ROM, that is near stock on them.
This has been having an adverse impact on tablets. Since less tablets are being made, given phones are larger these days.
If I were making the spec myself, I probably would have made the screen smaller. But they are going the way the market research leads them. And I know I can adjust from my HTC One M7 sized screen in time. It may even help me get over wanting more 10"+ stock Android tablets on the market . If I can accomplish my needs with this Moto X Style, that I currently do on my Nexus 10, plus what I do with my HTC One M7. The Moto X Style will make for a sweet consolidation device.
Anyway, I'm all for giving it a shot. Usually when we use our phones with one hand, it's during times we probably should not be using a phone in the first place . (Walking, driving, etc.) And with all the Moto X Style/Pure is packing. It probably would be hard to fit it all into a device with a smaller surface area.
And given I'm a pretty sizable guy I might be able to handle the device with one hand at times anyway. But even if not, like I said, it will help to avoid using the device at times that are best not to.

One option is to install Nova Launcher and then create a gesture for swipe down. I make swipe down pull down my notification shade on my current phone. Then even if I can't reach the top of the phone it isn't a dead area that I need to contort my hand to access.

I'm 6'5" and my hands are big enough. I'd suggest going to your parents and grandparents to find out why your lineage decided to have small hands.

Anthology thread for M8 related stuff.

The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

Any word on if there will be a Google Play Edition?
Usually how long does a Google Play Edition phone release after the carrier versions?

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.

It's S-OFF. If someone tells me how to backup the current recovery i will try and install TWRP and make a nandroid backup.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?

I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

Hate to hear that about the browser. So they made the screen a tad bigger but will actually have less real estate to browse with in actuality. I wish they would have left that part alone. Also the pic can't open?

My love/hate (well hate is strong...maybe irritating) experience with my new S6 edge.

First of all, let me just say I love the phone. By far the best total package out currently in any phone. However, there are some things that I just absolutely love and others that bother me some.
Awesomeness
1. LOVE, the display. Can't say enough how far the gap is between this display and others (besides Note 4)
2. Feel of the phone is fantastic. I really like the quality as well as the shape. However, it takes a little getting used to. Coming from the Moto X 2nd gen and HTC one (M8,M9 briefly) I find myself grabbing the phone out of my pocket thinking the back is the front...so used to a curve on the back.
3. Camera is amazing. Samsung outdid themselves on this one. I do get blurry pics at times when there are fast moving objects, but that is to be expected with a camera phone. I use my SLR for that kind of stuff.
Dislikes
1. I really do miss Moto Display. For those of you that have never used this. You have no idea how accustomed to it you get and how easy it is. I at lease wish it had knock on. Also, liked that it displayed the time by just waving my hand over it.
2. Screen auto brightness. Samsung has always had horrible settings for this. Always to dim for me. I wish they would use Google's adaptive display so that you can set the value stronger. I downloaded Auto Lux (which is awesome) and it works but strangely when I swipe and get to the edge contacts the screen no longer blurs. Weird. But that is not big deal or something an update from Lux will cure.
3. TOUCHWIZ! So funny, I used to laugh at everyone's huge dislike for touchwiz. Of course, this is when I had only had Samsung phones. Once I switched to HTC, then the Moto X 2nd Gen I truly see the lag touchwiz creates. The S6 has fixed a lot of that but it is still there. Again, unless you have used something like the Moto X or HTC one as your daily driver you won't see this. It is just the little pauses after touching an icon or home button or switching apps. At first I did not see this on the S6. But, now that I've used it for while it is popping up now and then and it is just noticeable. Not bad enough for me to get rid of it though
4. Power saving mode. I would really wish they would let us customize this like HTC. Let me choose which things to save power on.
5. This one is just a preference and many will disagree. But again, after switching from Galaxy 2,3,4,5 to HTC then Moto X I really did get used to having on screen navigation and now going back with physical/captive buttons is difficult. I will get used to it but I think I prefer on screen and think it is an easier press with one hand than using the Samsung button.
5. Night clock on edge. Great idea, however, I wish they would have deactivated the screen except for the pixels that show the clock. Like Motorola did on the Moto X. The screen, even though black, really is lit up and makes it harder to see the tiny numbers. If it were just the time/date lit up it would be so much easier to see and also be less bright in a dark room.
Well, that's my rant. Otherwise, loving the phone and getting used to the annoyances. Hopefully some can be addressed in future updates.
You simply made an uneducated decision buying this phone as it is not suited to your needs/ requirements. Return it, return to your old phone and be done.
I have had a few phones in my life and switching from one brand to another is never a one-day affair.
Geez.. Dude above me is harsh..
Agree with you on all points, except the lag. I though mine was laggy as well until I got into the developer mode and turned off all the animations. Now it feels snappy like I want. I cant stand the drop down menu on this thing though. Never had a desire to root my phone so bad.
Any Reviews / Rants about the Phone should be posted on Post your personal S6E reviews

Droid Turbo 2 (Turbo Successor)

Hey XDA people. Ever since i got the turbo, i cant imagine myself with another phone. The battery is amzing, i love the moto features especially moto display. Eventually Motorola has to come out with a successor. What is on your wish list? what are your thoughts? Personally:
-keep the same dimensions
-no need for higher than a 2k display
-bigger battery if possible without dramatically affecting the weight or size
-better front facing camera (not great especially in low light)
-more material option than just ballistic nylon.
Would to hear other peoples concerns and thoughts
I have used a lot of phones, and the Turbo is my favorite. Other than lollipop, and maybe improved camera or camera software, I can't think of necessary improvements. What I would like to see is it being offered on other carriers besides Verizon. This is really close to the perfect phone and others should have the opportunity to get it.
The usual updated processor and camera. Weight and thickness needs to be reduced if possible.
OIS for the back camera
improved camera + camera software
get rid of capacitive buttons ala moto x (pet peeve of mine)
unlockable bootloader (i know a pipe dream)
better processor, gpu, more ram, etc. (standard upgrades)
improve battery (if that is possible)
keep same screen size
They should go back to a 1080P screen like the 2014 Moto X has - it is actually nicer to look at with better color.

I wouldn't doubt that it is subjective. I know the screen on my 2014 Moto X is likely above average with the color temp and such. I have used the phones side by side with the smallest possible font and I don't think it is possible to see the difference in resolution, at least not with an amoled display. Going back to a 1080P display would also give faster graphics performance and more battery life. To me that is just win win win.
I think the quark family of devices only need android 5.1 update without memory leak issues. Camera should be fixed and screen could be calibrated for higher brightness like %20 more. What i expect to get from droid turbo 2 is one or more of the below.
5MP still / 2K video capable Frontcam
Different chip manufacturer prerably nvidia with their newest soc for high end mobiles in 2015.
Dual front facing speakers
Different pattern options for kevlar backs in different colors, as well as different balistic nylon cover colors.
an SD slot, number 1.
That's about it, but I'd actually like to see a mini version with equivalent specs, maybe a 4.7-5" display.
and unlockable bootloader, of course

I could be mistaken, but the only real benefit I can see to 2k/4k displays is showing 2k/4k photos or video in the native resolution which then allows you to see more detail with digital zoom....not something I'd have use for.

No IR blaster is honestly a bigger issue for me than no SD card slot. I still have my M8 and use the IR blaster often. But SD card would also be great, DEFINITELY in need of better camera software, this is probably the worst camera app I've used in a long time.

Completely disagree with you on the capacitive buttons. I have no clue why everyone wants to go with on-screen buttons. If they're gonna be seen 99% of the time, just make them part of the phone, don't waste my precious screen space with them. The switch to on-screen buttons is the single, least-desirable feature of Android of late, as far as I'm concerned. Just let me use that space for something useful, and make the buttons part of the phone.

On screen buttons are the most flexible. Programmatically they can change shape and functionality per need and context. For example, the left back key points down when the keyboard is open to indicate it closes the keyboard. When multiple keyboards are installed, another key gets added to the right of the menu key to let you choose your keyboard if you want. soft keys can blink, and change color too if coded for it. An soft key can never wear out. Capacitive buttons will never do any of that, other than potentially wear out. Some people are just stuck in their ways and are resistant to change.
I, too, would like to see an SD card slot and a faster camera. I would also like it to have a little louder speaker.
An IR blaster isn't exactly keeping with the trend of putting A/V equipment inside of cabinets and using radio transmitters. I assume even newer A/V equipment is controlled over wifi.
if i had to guess why moto switched back to capacitive buttons, i would say screen burn-in and loss of screen real estate. that being said, i would not mind my capacitive buttons at all if i could change the color. (yes, even though the symbols are no longer correct for L+)
What I would like to see on the next Droid (Turbo 2? ) ultimately, is stock theme support. Moto has invested so much in the Moto Maker idea, which is great, but looking at the site, the biggest joke is the software customization. (choose wallpaper, really?)
the next gen turbo should have 4 gb of ram (64 bit support) and maybe the snapdragon 820. (bc the overheating issue is resolved in that chip). the turbos biggest drawback is the lack of a dev edition. the display is great. i wish i could dial in different resoloutions (as a default setting) just to experiment. Aside from that, i think the return of external sd cards should happen.
the best resoloution for differing preferences on capacitive buttons and software buttons would be a small, thin capacitive panel that could allow hiding while not being in the way. capacitive buttons in their current form havent had very much growth. personally, id love if that row was a module that could be swapped by the user to suit their taste. they really dont have to be very big. this would make it more expensive to make, so its unlikely this will happen. i like the idea of Ara a bit too much. (and yes, i know there is nothing like that within the design, it just would be a cool feature. after all, Moto has to compete with that eventually, may as well one-up it early on).

I think its more likely is because it was a Verizon requested design, and Motorola decided to sell it in other places as well. MotoX, which is their true flagship product, is onscreen.
very possible man. the thing i look at is the switch to on screen (msm8960) and the abrupt shift back (msm8960dt). still, i do not doubt thr powerfull hand VZW has to make Moto their b. who knows? well, except for Moto themselves.

All of those seems frivolous to me, except the whole "wearing out" part. 99.999999% of android users should already know the back button closes the keyboard if open. Changing color seems cool, but ultimately unnecessary, and capacitive buttons can flash. If you want to do soft buttons, just do like a cool little e-ink panel or something, but don't take away part of my precious screen!

New Android users do not know this and Google is intelligent enough to realize this. You never exclude features from taking new users into consideration.
You are looking at the issue through your own experiences. Thats not how to evaluate a feature properly.
As for flashing capacitive keys, I've yet to see capacitive keys with individual backlight control to flash individually and ultimately, you aren't even flashing the keys, you are flashing the backlight. You can also not use immersive mode with capacitive keys.

Agreed. OIS for rear camera is the only place the Quark phone is less than the Nexus 6. In every other category, it's equal or greater than the Nexus 6 -- especially battery.
Capacitive buttons are not the annoyance I thought they would be, but removing them would allow Motorola to shave the bezels a little more (i.e. like LG does).
I'm using Google camera and for me, it's better than the Moto camera.

While I know there aren't a large number of Pixel owners considering jumping to the LG G6, I'm one who is open to it. I stumbled across this guy's comparison video to give me a good idea of exactly what the switch would look like for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLfhhv5c0wI
Beneftis of the LG G6:
- That beautiful screen with very small bezels
- The (dual) cameras
- Wireless charging (why did this go away with recent Nexus/Pixel devices?)
- IP68 Water resistance
However, I don't understand why LG and Samsung still find it necessary to apply their own skins/software over what is already an excellent and fluid experience with pure Android. The reality is that this alone will likely end up being the deal breaker for me. Especially as I watch my wife's 2 month old Galaxy S7 lag like crazy under very simple tasks. If LG/Samsung got their heads out of their butts and figured out that if they kept their hands off the software, there wouldn't even be a need for the Nexus/Pixel lines.

I believe this is one of the great things about Android that brings in so many new features. If everyone ran stock Android, the only people thinking up new ideas would be Google themselves. However when you let Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. put their own twists on Android, the whole community gets to see new ideas that they never thought of before. Many of these are useless gimmicks, but others are incredibly useful. Just to name a few features that custom skins introduced that pure Android did not have at the time:
Quick toggles
Multi-window
Clear all recent apps
Double tap to wake
Always on display
Reset option in the power menu
Flashlight
Double tap home button / twist to launch camera
I'm sure there are tons more, but that's just the top of my head.
I forgot about LG's implementation of Double Tap to Wake. I had that on my G4 and it was flawless. The same feature on my Google Pixel works maybe 50% of the time. I miss the G4 for that.
I just wish they could implement their own software without adding UI lag along with it. It seems to happen no matter how much faster the internal hardware gets on these phones. Maybe that will change with the G6. We shall see.
If only I could find someone who would get a G6 and trade me for my pixel.

You could always sell yours on Swappa and buy a G6.
It looks nice. I don't like the UI and I'm sure it will have reboot issues like all the recent LG devices. Another thing to consider is that the Pixel devices will always be on the latest version of Android. with the G6 who knows when it will get 7.1.2 or Android O, whatever the case may be. And while the 18:9 aspect ratio on the G6 is cool, I don't expect other manufacturers to follow suit. It's probably another gimmick.

True. I can't check right now but I'd be curious how much I could get for a 32GB black Pixel in 100% perfect condition (literally just like out of the box) with an unlocked bootloader... Compared to how much a G6 would be

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the LG V60 ThinQ, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the LG V60 ThinQ is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Count me in as very happy
I just moved over from the s20 ultra. I'm a big fan of larger phones. That phone though had all kinds of issues..the camera couldn't focus. It was aggravating.
My last LG phone was my beloved LG G2. I used that phone for many years.
I jumped in on T-Mobile BOGO offer. So glad I did.... I love this phone.
Works great, it's fast, battery lasts all day. I particularly like how it integrates the IoT devices in my house. Samsung devices is actually extremely clunky. You have to into repetitive menus to get to a device. This is very intuitative.
I use the dual screen as more of an occasional thing at home. Don't like the adapter to charge it but oh well...mainly use the V60 as a stand alone device.
Count me as a headphone jack promoter. I have Bluetooth headphones but sometimes I'm at a place and I don't have them. Being able to plug in any old pair of headphones was vital to me. I went without for the newer Samsung and it really bugged me. The cost for manufacturers is really low to keep it.
Camera is great for everyday life needs. Samsung has a documented issue that's been around since my s9+ days where it would only text a shorter video clip. Why? I don't know. It was nice to be able to send video clips of my son to family and the video length stays the same.
Very happy with the device and hoping to be using it for many years ahead before the next upgrade.
I've posted a variation of this in a few different topics already, but here goes.
I've upgraded from a rooted open-market LG V30+ (attached to AT&T) to the AT&T variant of the LG V60 5G ThinQ (and got the dual-screen attachment separately as a "freebie").
Other than the lower screen resolution and DPI, I find the phone to be an upgrade in pretty much all categories, ranging from moderate to significant depending on category.
And I don't even mind the screen so much. It means that we get BEASTLY battery levels. Perhaps even overkill (but can you really have too much battery life, though)?
I never liked LG software, so even without root, I was able to use ADB commands to re-establish my preferred V30+ software/desktop home environment without too much hassle.
Namely, I use Nova Launcher Prime as my preferred launcher, Whicons as my icon pack, Fluid Simulation - Trippy Stress Reliever for a pure black OLED-friendly home screen and lock screen background (plus brief, lovely splashes of bright fluid-like colors upon screen wake-up or with screen touches and taps), Fluid Navigation Gestures to replace mostly replace Nova's gestures and totally replace stock Android 10's navigation gestures, and Energy Bar to provide a line with variable heights across my status bar informing me of battery levels (can use color gradations for every 25% block, or in my case, a pure white line across the top of the screen). FNG required setting a special permission via ADB to be able to hide the navigation bar. First time doing that (since all of my prior phones were rooted), but it wasn't too tough to learn and implement. Yes, I wind up with mostly pure black and white home screen and lock screen, but Fluid Simulation provides beautiful splashes of color at just the right times. Energy Bar is a little imperfect thanks to this phone's front-camera notch bisecting the bar. Not much I can do about that, though.
I like the screen well enough. I love the expandable storage. I love the Quad DAC. Even the stereo speakers when not using headphones are better than what you'd get on most other phones, high-end or not. And screen specs-aside, this is a premium flagship phone all the way. AT&T even bumped us from the February 2020 security patch the phone launched with to the April 2020 security patch around a week or so ago, a surprisingly timely update for an LG phone. I almost couldn't be happier with this device. And even if root never happens and this becomes my first ever Android phone to not get rooted, I don't think I'd be terribly disappointed. Not when you consider how happy I already am with the phone.
The only thing that wound up being a total bust is the dual-screen accessory. Not being able to span Nova Launcher, Fluid Navigation Gestures, and my Fluid Simulation background to the second screen is a total deal-breaker. That one is stuck with LG's crap-ass default software, and I don't see any way to change that. And even if I could mirror my device's software environment over to the second screen, the ergonomics of the dual-screen's case makes typing on the primary device in portrait mode almost physically impossible unless you set it down on a table or something and use your pointer fingers to type. Neat idea. Heavily flawed execution. I'm happy, at least, that the attachment didn't come with a second out-of-pocket cost.
TLDR: Love the phone. Happy enough with the screen. Colors pop. Viewing angles feel infinite. Audio continues to be a stand-out. And it meets and exceeds my two deal-breaker smartphone requirements, a 3.5MM headphone jack (Quad DAC is just extra gravy) and expandable storage.
I've had the phone for about 3 or 4 days and I'm enjoying the dual screens (I'm an Uber driver) and the remarkably good sound. Not a fan of the fingerprint sensor as I've noticed that sometimes it doesn't always work. I don't mind the Nova Launcher issue at the moment as the built in Whale Homescreen is still better than Quickstep (hear that Google) in dual screen mode. I love the fact it does have a headphone jack, good bluetooth capability and 4G/5G coverage in areas where the old PH-1 would give me the middle finger of connections. I did NOT choose this phone for the screen refresh rate, as I'm a user who doesn't game much with the phone and don't need the higher refresh rates. I chose it for the dual screen aspect which is clear and good quality on both screens, which is most satisfactory and the best thing since the rather revolutionary G2 Flex that LG has come up with short of a foldable full screen phone.
I have yet to try the camera out, (will miss the Essential's 360 camera), so the jury's still out on quality.
The audio is crisp, clear and very good with the speakers. I've not tried the vocal bokeh yet, but I suspect it will work well.
Overall I'm impressed with this lower end Flagship phone and the case, it does everything I want it to. Oh and the bloatware level with T-mobile and LG is astoundingly low, a shocker indeed. I'll follow up as I use the phone, but over all, LG made a phone that is both a step forward and back on smartphone evolution.
This is Xiaomi-like type of phone... It can be superb, but not straight out the box...
I have had the phone for 3 days now. I really like it. It's snappy. For a 1080p screen. I'm impressed. The speakers are great. Camera is really good. I really recommend getting the wide screen for g8x app. Really adds usefulness for the dual screen. All and all. Really good phone. Hope LG keeps software update come out more frequently.

What recommendations do you have to make this phone "superb?" I'm happy with it so far (just got it yesterday) but any ideas to make it even better I'm all ears.

First of all, WideMode app is must have to use full potential of Dual Screen. Secondly, file manager from Google does the job, especially there is no proper manager in default - it have powerful cleaning features and what is more - I'ts from Google - no ads and more safety than 3rd party solutions. I'm testing varius Gcam distros, due to terrible software post processing, even in raw photos (UltraCVM is best so far - made for Mi 9T with 64mpx matrix). Then i've changed everything to darkest theme / dark wallpapers, and turned off AoD to protect OLED from burn (V30 case...).
I've had this phone for about a month now and have mixed opinions on it. My favorite phone to date is the V20. I knew I was giving up a lot that I wanted when moving to the V60, but had hoped the other improvements would offset it. When I first set the phone up, I hated it. SOOOOO many features I lost from the V20 that I missed more than expected, and general design changes I dislike.
The phone has grown on me and I'm keeping it. Some things I adapted to, others I can't (this thing is way too tall for one handed use), but I guess it's the least bad phone on the market today. The V20 really spoiled me, so it's a love/hate relationship with the V60.

Besides the 2nd screen, what did you lose? I had a V20 but it's been so long I don't remember what I'm missing ?

Here's my initial reaction list that I posted over on Android Central:
1. It's tall. Really tall. As in I can't reach the top 25% of the screen with one handed use. I'd much rather it have a bezel to house the camera, sensors, and a killer speaker, if not just be shorter all together.
2. Speaking of bezels, it needs one on the bottom too. I have to strain to reach the navigation buttons with one hand use, and constantly typing a row above where I intended on the keyboard. I know i can use gesture navigation, but that has its own drawbacks. A bezel would allow for better one hand use, plus give room to turn that bottom firing speaker up to front firing and better sound. The bottom bezel on the V20 was perfect.
3. It's not the slickest phone I've held, but still slippery. The back glass also feels more like plastic than glass, which I actually like.
4. The flashlight is rather dim compared to other phones.
5. The stock gallery doesn't seem to allow you to sort albums by name, only by date modified. If anyone knows if that's fixable, I'd love to know. Otherwise I'm switching to a third party gallery that is almost a direct clone of the V20's gallery.
6. Could they have cut the side protective film into any more pieces???
7. Anyone that thinks you need above 1080p on a phone display is just blowing smoke. It's the sweet spot on a phone, but the option for 90Hz refresh would've been nice to have (120Hz is not noticably better than 90Hz).
8. I thought i would like what looked like fine tuning of the display color calibration, but I barely saw any differences when making changes.
9. Tons of junk to disable/delete.
10. I can already tell battery life is good, even with all the extra setup going on. Just sucks that it's sealed.
Not on that list is that the screen is not LCD (so now worried about burn in), and removal of proprietary LG apps. I loved Q-slide with the floating applets, their own dialer app, and their files app. Google's dialer doesn't allow blocking phone numbers by area code. Mine is based in a location I no longer live in or have contact with, yet all my spam calls use that area code. Blocking by that was more effective than any filter app. The files app is just too "busy" for me.

As far as being slick.. welcome to 2020 everyone has apparently decided that a slippery glass phone is the law now. Lol
5. Gallery app.. I can create an album and name it whatever I want. Is that what you mean?
7. Agree about 90hz
9. Agree about all the preloaded crap
10. Battery life is stellar. A sealed battery is only going to be an issue after 3-4 years so I'm not worried about that one
Other... My LG V60 does NOT have the Google dialer, it's most definitely LG's, at least on the T-Mobile variant
QSlide... I hear ya.. I got the floating bar from apk mirror, but I miss QSlide
LCD screen.. I don't miss it, it was the worst thing about the V20.. the only area that might have to worry about burn in is the navigation keys, bit I don't use them. The amoled screens are significantly better IMO
Dam you Mooncatt I had forgotten about QSlide!! ??

When I go to the dialer app info, then click on app details, it links right to "Phone" from Google in the Play store. My first taste of it was on the Razer Phone 2 I used briefly, which is where I found the lack of area code blocking. While I know the V20 had the image retention issue, that was specific to that model phone. LCD's in general are fine, and preferable when it comes to something like a phone with a lot of static displays. If having pitch perfect blacks is really that much of an issue, I guess they could do like tv's and have an LED array for localized back lighting. Something else I forgot to mention about the V60 is there's a fair bit of color shift when viewing at an angle.
I've uploaded a screenshot of the stock gallery app on mine showing the option to sort only by date and not alphabetically.
Fyi, I'm on Verizon, which may explain the differences between ours.

Yep.. that's the Google dialer alright.. I used to have Verizon and they were always making weird changes. I don't mind that dialer... But it's weird that we don't have the same one
Ok, I'm a dunce. I checked and found the contacts app hidden from my app drawer in Nova. I thought it and the dialer icon both went to the same app but to different tabs within it. I didn't realize it was LG's dialer and had hidden it thinking it was an extra/redundant app icon. I try to keep my app drawer to 2-3 pages and hide a lot of stuff like that.
I'm exactly the opposite. I swore off lg after I had the v20. For me the camera was terrible and battery life was crap and the phone was slow af. When I saw the reviews for this phone I was almost certain this was the phone for me so I asked some questions on here and played with one in store and that sealed the deal. I've had it since yesterday with almost 21 hours off charger I have 2hr 23min screen time and I'm still at 78 percent battery! That is world's apart from my last phone the 7t pro McLaren. The camera is excellent too and the software is actually much better then it used to be. I'm enjoying the ux. If lg keeps up this good work I will stay with them in the future. Oh and did I mention how damn good the phone speakers sound? Like woah! I'm actually excited already to see what they have in store for the v70!

Oh and one more thing....I really don't notice the refresh rate is only 60hz and for 1080p this screen is colorful and crisp. Lg hit this one out of the park man this phone is bad ass!
