Will official and sharp version of Lollipop ever see the light of day ? - Ascend Mate 7 General

It is soon august in just 2 todays, I wonder will Lollipop ever se the light of day ? Lollipop have been delayed for soon 6 months or so,
Huawei get a big "fail" in this regard..
Just to make sure, I am not a beta tester I am a customer, which means it is not my job to be a beta tester and provide feedback to Huawei, it is their job to employ a team of "beta testers" not use "free working ants" who do there job for free.
Unfortunately it has taken so long that I will for sure think twice of ever buying a Huawei device again.
They are a good hardware company but their software lacks both updates and functions
Just compare with most Lollipop devices out there right now, even the latest MEIZU have a more fun looking look.
All the animations are boring as **** and non inspiring on Mate 7. On default settings the animations are very slow which make me frustrated, I have set the animation on faster speed but that on the other hand makes them less smooth.
It is sad, I really liked Huwei they showed so much promise for the future and did do so many things right, but it really feels they have forgotten all the million people who have bought this device it is not acceptable. By the time Lollipop is available for Mate 7 that Android M is already rolled out so no people will be happy when lollipop is finally available... cause then we are already 1 year behind again.

I`ll take a rock stable KK rom over a buggy L rom anytime There`s nothing i misss from Lollipop tbh and i ran it on the Nexus 6.

Perfect solution?
Nexus from Huawei

Actually I second gee. I have broken my LG G3, and bought a Mate. There is NOTHING at all I miss from the (battery draining) lollipop on this great phone.
Only thing I miss a bit is lockscreen notification - but NiLS does a great job here.
IF (when) lollipop arrives I shall update it - but I don't miss it at all

It will you just have to wait. The Kirin chipset is kinda different. See how it's so fluid for KK compared to other chips which caused some lags? Lollipop must have changed it 180 degrees hence it will need more time for optimization

I have been trying a few launchers this week because I am so dead tired of the apperance on the M7.
However I have not fallen in love with any of the launchers yet...this include nova..
I wish there was more multi tasking functions..
There is a app that is called heads-up which brings lollipop style notifcation.. I place these in the middle of screen cause this is very my thumb is normally.. I also use C notice in combination with it..this is perfect.. combo.. must have..

But most of 2014 devices have lollipop yes ?
5 year old android devices are included in your statistics, and these devices do not even support lollipop..

Wow it is 5th August today and still no official lollipop release I guess people are just happy with a beta version.

Speaking for me personally, I am simply happy to wait for a stable release.
I just switched to HAM7 from a Samsung Galaxy S4 on 5.0.1. I would choose HAM7 on Kitkat over the S4 with Lollipop any time. This is in terms of stability, battery life and performance.
Not to mention that the upgrade to Lollipop on the S4 reduced the battery life drastically and only a custom kernel can make the phone usable for a day. And these issues were not only on the outdated S4 but also in the S5.
All I'm saying is that I'd love to have Lollipop on the HAM but I would rather wait for a stable version than frustrate myself with a new update that makes my experience worse than it was before the upgrade.
Just look at the Samsung forums to see people asking how to downgrade to Kitkat soon after the Lollipop update was out.
Peace [emoji2]

You're right,
I had S4, Galaxy s4 battery life after the lollipop update VERY bad
It drops so fast, it was big mistake from samsung
Because the processor begin very hot after normal use!
That's why I would stay on KitKat it works perfect and the battery life is amazing
But that doesn't mean I don't want lollipop -,-

I have installed Nova Laucnher using Lollipop animations and also
Heads up notifcation (with c notice)

I must say with these two apps my desire for Lollipop is not as big I must say I have noticed a big performance improvement using Nova Launcher...
I recommend it to everyone.

Stock ics vs stock jb

I have waited so long for this update and finally its out. The much hyped nature UX. I didnt like the new TW. I am still in love with the Tw my nite has since the beginning. Does anyone of you feel the same. Is there anyway to put the old tw launcher on the new jb???
And obviously thr main question is the stock jelly bean worth the update???? It didnt feel as if its on par compsred to the ics in performance.

I've been running my German Note in the UK with stock ROMs for 16 months, only flirting briefly with Paranoid Android for a week or so. I updated from ICS to JB the day the official German release came out and was soon back to ICS due to terrible battery life with WiFi enabled on the JB ROM. However, after a few days I had itchy fingers and decided to try again. There are a couple of new features, although in practical daily use I don't think I'm taking advantage of any of them, but still the battery performance with WiFi on is inferior to ICS.
I do have my device rooted and have DPI set to 240, which means TW is a bit useless to me, so I'm running Nova Launcher instead. I would hope that there will be further updates to address the WiFi battery drain issues, but right now I would be as happy on ICS as JB. I just can't be bothered with yet another ROM swap and rebuild when I hope the future will soon bring performance improvements for JB. That was certainly the case when the first lamentable ICS ROM was released and it took two further releases before that settled down to be a decent ROM.

Try the LSF fw for Trinidad and Tobago. The battery life is much better for this release than the German LSF for me.
Well my region PAK always receives the update very late. So by the time i get my hands on it, its already refined. I tried the german rom but in the end felt disappointed by the visuals and overall performance. So i am pak on my JPLR8 ics.cthe multiwindow thing always charmed me. But if by any means i get my hands on this feature on my current rom. I would be much more happier than having a full update. The stock ics on note is such a complete package for me that its nit even letting me change my phone. From default keyboard to any other utility. Its outperforming all the other android oems in software.
Glad to know that some other people share the same opinion.

Hello mate, fyi I have just gone back to ICS from JB (LSZ). I found that there were a few things with JB that....just weren't quite right.
Whereas, for me, ICS works perfectly and has great battery life too.
In terms of new features, JB doesn't really have much to be honest. The multi window is quite cool (watching youtube whilst messaging, for example).... but in my humble opinion, the note is just too small to use the multi window effectively.
If Samsung can release a JB firmware that is fault-free, like ICS..... then I'll go back to JB.
cheers
sticking with ICS
I stick to stock, save for the kernel, but after reading thousands of threads about JB, and for what I use the device for, I think I'll stick with
ICS. I pretty much use phone, email, web, camera, text msg and that's about it. Other than a youtube video, that's it on video, and I don't really
use the audio player. It's a solid work device for my use, and ICS has been rock stable, and even with wi-fi, I can get pretty much a days worth
out of the battery. If the Galaxy S-IV from leaks appears as good as it looks on paper, I'll get JB with that, but I think I'll stick with ICS.

ICS 4.0.4 still win, you know the one with old touchwiz i forgot what version is that. Im sure thats the last android version that is meant for galacy note..
sammy kept on telling the very aspect of ics which triggered the brick bug also gave it the razor sharp edge
with JB we managed to squish both

I think it's a step forward.
Better memory management is a huge deal for Android, one that it's been needing for some long time.
Since it is gor 512mb ram devices also it will work just fi9 n smooth on note 2

It's got some pretty cool new features, from the automatic caller id lookup to built-in screen-recording. I'm also interested in the performance and memory enhancements, since our Note 2 will feel old and sluggish by the time Sammy gives us Kitkat

My thoughts on Android Kitkat 4.4 is it is gonna be smoother than previous versions since beside it is a small upgrade, lower end devices will be supported by it too so it means faster on high end devices..
BUT!
My only thought on SAMSUNG Android Kitkat 4.4, it'll gonna be very long, I MEAN VERY LOOOOOONG time 'til we get this.. Or probably won't since maybe when Samsung releases 4.4 it will be old news and 5.0 will be around.. Hahaha!

huh?? and u think Samsung will update N2 to 4.4 , i don't think so
or maybe they will update N2 to 4.4 when Android 4.5 or 5.0 is here :silly::silly:
I think it's a lovely update. Here are the list of changes: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html
I'm very excited for the performance and memory management enhancements as well as improved battery life.
Samsung ETA: 6+ months.
If only samsung would completely redesign touchwiz to somewhat resemble holo UI (like HTC did with sense 5)
I'll be enjoying kitkat on my 2012 N7 with its ****ty slow Tegra 3 processor.
First 4.3 than 4.4. Before we get 4.4 we have past one year. But I think 4.4 will be much smoother with better performance.
Does no one in this thread use AOSP ROMs lol?
I can't wait to test out the NFC card emulation.
thanks:good:
As someone has said, is a lovely update. Better performance, better graphics, more Google Experience and more. Sure, The Verge said that Nexus 5 is not the "perfect smooth Android", but i think that an Android without a single little lag is a chimera.
I'll try 4.4, maybe, with some custom roms, but i will definitely stick with the note instead of switching to n5. It's beautiful, but i'm sure that has not the battery life and speaker quality of the Note II. We will see.

That hands on video was done by a biased apple fanboy. I mean really.... if you listen to what he says
He's getting hate all over the net.
The irony when Google say 4.4 designed to run on 512mb devices or more with better performance and better mem management....etc but the verge reported some lag here and there on Nexus 5 and peeps who flashed aosp 4.4 on N4 reported worse performance than 4.3
DAFUQ GOOGLE
Seems like Android + Dalvik will never ever be smooth and resource efficient as WP or IOS

I don't believe that's fanboyism. I owned an iPhone 4 and it was more smooth than any Android. Period. The only thing that i want to say is: seems that Android 4.4 isn't the "performance revolution" that we was expecting.
Anyway, it's still very enjoyable.

I believe it is fanboyism because he was bashing many aspects of the device and android in general, not only the performance. Although I'm not saying it should exceed iOS performance. But notice he was demonstrating lag using chrome. And we all know chrome has been laggy and unoptimized since the beginning. One shouldn't bash an entire OS's performance based on an unoptimized app. The stock samsung browser on my Note 2 runs as smooth as Safari on iOS.
Saying nonsense like "...Usually Android cameras aren't that impressive." There's no way I'm trusting a guy like that.
in addition to:
"...ceramic buttons, for whatever that's worth."
"Google calls it 'silky,' I call it 'pretty good."

Bloody G3 - I need to rant

I know this is going to sound very much like a first world problem, but this phone is frustratingly ****. It is easily the buggiest, slowest, most laggy phone I have ever had.
I have tried just about all the LG based ROMS, only to find that each one, although not buggy, are all laggy. The lag is so bad that it gives my old S2 on Gingerbread a run for its money. At least with Samsung phones, you could get rid of the lag by using a AOSP ROM and it would still be functional.
To solve the frustrating lag issue, I have installed a CM based ROM. At first I was delighted. The lag was gone. The phone was now comparable to my super fast Nexus 5. But after a few hours, I noticed the same bugs that every other CM based ROM user has. Today, I had to restart the phone six times FFS! It is a little more stable on 777 Kernel, but the same issues still persist.
Has anyone achieved bliss with this phone? Is there any ROMS, AOSP or LG based, that are fast, (Nexus 5 fast), and bug free?
Don't get me wrong, I love devs and the work they do. Without them, my old Galaxy phones, (S1, S2, S3, S4), would have been poo. My Nexus 5 would have been boring. (Stock android is meh). I just don't understand why this phone seems to have so many issues. Help me understand why it is so hard to develop a fast and reliable ROM for this phone. I know it isn't from a lack of trying. There is heaps of support and devs working on various ROMS in the G3 threads already and all of them are very talented.
Is it hardware based lag or is there something else inherently wrong with the phone?
Thanks for reading and offering any solutions. I don't want to list the ROMS I have tried, as it will seem like I am an ungrateful twat to those devs that worked so hard. Suffice to say, I have tried all the popular CM/AOSP and LG based ROMS.

Compared to what? Which other android phone have you used? In isolation, this phone is barely acceptable. Then, after you use a nexus, HTC or Sony phone, this phone is comparably slow. Almost unusable.
I can't bring myself to try stock again until someone who has other phones to base their claims on can confirm it is lag free.

Have you tried the usual tricks?
1. Swap out the stock launcher for something like Nova or Apex
2. Switch your keyboard to a 3rd party keyboard
While it does suffer from the random stutter, my phone is generally very zippy and does not lag.
Done all that. On stock based ROMS, stutter and lag is unbearable. My wife, nexus 5 user, even commented on how bad it is. I'm actually embarrassed to use the phone in front of people. I know it isn't a hardware issue, because AOSP ROMS are lag free, but not bug free.
Yeah, the phone is nowhere near as quick as a Nexus. The notification bar is also **** compared to stock Lollipop. There are a few tricks I use to improve performance on a stock rom:
1) Turn off throttling/thermal daemon via the service menu.
2) I use setCPU to set the phone to use the "performance" scheduler whenever the screen is on, locking it at 2.5Ghz.
Still isn't perfect, but it helps substantially. Obviously this is in addition to changing the launcher.
It's just one of those things. As you say, CM12 just isn't stable and worryingly seems to be going backwards, getting less and less stable with each passing nightly. The camera is also completely crap on AOSP roms. Nexus devices are great but the N5 is old and the N6 is too big and expensive. The S5 lags too, and while Note 4 is supposed to be good, but I simply won't believe that Touchwiz lag is gone without seeing it with my own eyes. Even if it has gone, Touchwiz remains the ugliest skin I've ever seen. Sony phones are nice, but they aren't packaged anywhere near as tightly as the G3, which is it's biggest strength: 22mm shorter than an iPhone 6+, with the same size screen. That's impressive. HTC's are just ridiculously large for a given screen size. The 1+1 is old now, and doesn't support all LTE bands used in the UK.
There is no perfect phone. Whichever you choose, there are compromises to be made. However IMHO the G3 strikes the best compromise available today, at least once running the latest Lollipop build and with the tweaks I mentioned above applied.
Had most 2014 flagships and G3 is deff fav so far, didnt have KK as updated to LP out the box had little lag after ota but common just needed a factory reset and all good since
Just a tip you can use on any android phone, go to settings, developer options, and set all the animations to 0.5x. This drastically reduces the time the animations take, and it gives a very snappy experience. It makes a LOT of difference, trust me.
No lag whatsoever here. Im running Chupachups newest rom with rin kernel. I've previously owned htc one, lg g2, xperia z1 and this phone definitely outperforms them all.
Ive owned the Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, and tbh id rate this better than both, i would like the battery life to be better my Z1 was amazing for that buh im custom stock rom and i dont get lag, everything is as it should be.

Because LL is still unstable and buggy? And so is any rom based on it?..
Stock firmware sucks because of LG's software - it's very badly written. Almost as bad as touchwiz is. (I used SGS3, trust me on that one...)
AOSP/CM based firmwares are better, but they still suffer due do LL newness. Wait till android 5.1, things may become better.
There is also a hardware issue: unbelievably bad heat management. They used 8974ac, but had not made any cooling system. No radiators, no heat spread throughout the case, and it's facing LCD panel - which is a very bad radiator. GG WP, throttling kick in, phone starts to lag, etc etc etc.
I think there may be problem with your unit... Try to send it back to get a replacement or have it serviced.

I agree that most of the stock LG-G3 roms, Lollipop/Kitkat, if not rooted and without any mods, LAG is unavoidable. The case is, some people can't root their phones and most of them will try searching why G3 stock rom is lagging... if I'm one of them and I happen to see this post, I would feel bad and feel stupid at the same time why I spend money buying a crappy phone.
Well anyways, try Crash Rom v2.0. It is a stock based ROM like chupachups. The animation is not as fluid as CM but I won't say that it's lagging. Compared to CM, I have not yet encountered any bugs and mostly the camera is better. If you're interested you can also downgrade the resolution to 1080p, this will enhance your g3, 3d and 2d graphics performance.
Hi im all so on lollipop 5.0 updated out of the box and its all good maybe some lag not much to notice. Still no root method yet for stock lollipop 5.0 and i dont want to downgrade to kk so il have patience and wait for new root method for me g3
Wow, I went from the nexus 5, to the htc m8, to the g3 all in year. My advice, play with this one to get the phone lag gone. This by far is the best. Like a previous person said, turn off animations and change the launcher.

Can't be an issue with the phone, as it is lag free with CM based ROMS.

Already done all that. Animations are turned off, launcher animations are set to lightning fast, CPU throttling is turned off. I've tried all the tricks in the book. Fact is, LG based software is crap, just like Samsung.
So far today, the lock-screen has only frozen on me four times, which is good.
I'm not sure if I'd rather put up with a laggy phone or a buggy phone.
My phone is currently on V20h. Apart from the occasional Home launcher crash, I've not had any lag that I notice of. The last time there was any lag was on V10i. My phone is rooted but is not running any mods.
Prior to this, I've had the Note 3 and Xperia S. Compared to the G3, I would say that the smoothness is at the very least, on par with the Note 3 running on stock.
I've seen people complaining about the G3 being laggy too. Is your phone by any chance the 2 GB RAM version?
My phone is the 2gb version, but I always have at least close to 300mb free. Sometimes I have over 1gb free. Not that it should matter though, as I have read on numerous places that the 3gb version lags too, and that both phones are very close on performance. The extra 1gb of RAM is negligible.
Just flashing Crash ROM now. I think I'm going to regret it though, as I much prefer the look of AOSP anyway.
Ah crap. Just as I flash the ROM, I read that the dev is stopping support for our device. Based on the comments, it looks like a promising ROM.

Android 6.0 MM Stock - User Experience

Hi all, anyone here flash official MM to their device yet? I'm wondering about user experience. I read a thread on reddit and the top comment has me worried.
I'll copy and paste the comment here:
I'm on the beta and apart from the better app switch window, you're literally missing out on nothing. MM + EMUI 4 is glitchy and slow a lot of the time. It's a pity, really.

So, do other beta testers feel the same way? Let's talk about this...

Hello, I am a beta tester for Honor 5x Android 6.0+EMUI 4.0 for L22 (India) variant. It has been around 2 months I am using the beta versions (with different updates with bug fixes), and current versions seems stable. Although there has been a problem of excessive RAM consumption, the phone is pretty stable. We have raised bug for this and Honor dev team is working on the fix. Don't worry, we have rejected 3 requests from Honor in their beta survey to make sure buggy software is not released to the public.
The user experience is better than Android 5.1 + EMUI 3. The UI is improved and smoother than previous version. We have raised requests for new features like OTG support and more camera functions, and hoping that we will get all of those sooner. Keep in mind that by comparing EMUI 4.0 to stock Android will disappoint you as no customized UI matches stock one in the performance aspect.
I am happy with the current release as it is much more stable that earlier ones and still waiting for another update with rest of the bug fixes and requirements incorporated.
If you like stock, you may move to CM13 and other ROMs. Personally I did not try CM yet as there is not fingerprint support. Yes in just 4 months, I am damn addicted to fingerprint and I don't want to try a ROM without FP support. CM developers are damn good and they are working on the FP issue and we will have the resolution sooner.
Finally, whether to go with beta release, or wait for it to release to public or going for CM or CM based ROMs remains your choice. I enrolled to beta testing so that my fellow friends using Honor 5X will have a bug free stable stock software. I might move to CM when the beta testing is over

Same as what you'd say, Release is consuming a lot of RAM, Battery as well Data Comsumption Monitor is having two stages which is makin me taking two step enrollment to save data.
There i found a Bug/Error but unable to report with the team Dev where on Professional camera - No sooner when i ue Flash Light/Torch and immediately open Pro Camera to capture moments it says Close Torch App - Unable to Open Camera App.
currently running marshmallow (RC VERSION) on L22.
there are a lot of changes
1.the notification icons are now colored
2.recent apps are better now
3.audio output via 3.5mm jack has improved.
3.view modes is introduced(similar to dpi changing)
4.incoming call ui is full screen.
5.revamped settings, phone, messaging(white color with dark notification icons)
and all other marshmallow goodies like permission manger, detailed app info etc
on the bad side...
ui buggy and consumes hell lot of ram.
and lags while mutitasking.
hope all this gets improved in the stable release

Great! What causes the long loading time on apps? Is it Emui self or what?

Looks like EMUI, along with the bug causing excessive RAM consumption.
But with latest build, apps are loading quite faster than earlier, I am not sure which one did you try.

Battery looks good but not as custom ROM !

My Galaxy Grand 2 story

Hey guys. It's been 4 years (almost 5) since i used this phone.
I bought this phone in 2014, it was trending in my country at that time and it was a pretty cool device. It was very big phone when i used it for the first time.
In Jelly bean 4.3 days: Obviously this is the original OS in this phone when you first bought it. It is pretty fast though. And i feel like I am using an s4 since their ui is similar. I never encountered lags since i am not playing games in this device. I am a light user. I only used it for text, calls, selfie and Facebook. Ohh I miss those days.
In KitKat 4.4.2 days: I was expecting a big change in this rom. When i saw the S5 ad, their ui was pretty cool and i always thought it will ship in this device but it did not. Its a little bit dissapointing for me. Until i get used to it.
By the way, i cant tell you the difference of 4.3 and 4.4.2. It only change the status bar icons to white! The performance is the same, the rest, just the same. Until i learned how to use custom roms. But at that time, kitkat custom roms was not very good. So i stayed and be contented in this os.
I expected lollipop on grand 2. Someone said it will happen, until i heard the news that grand 2 will receive lollipop and it is in development. And i was very excited!! I waited for months but sadly, they cancelled the update. So i was very sad.
Lollipop customs were available but im not used to stock android. I tried it but i dont like it in my opinion. Because i used only samsung phones since 2011. Im a touchwiz lover. Even if someone called it lagwiz.
Until aapav developed motion rom and i was very happy that lollipop in grand 2 was actually pretty good!! It was very similar with the S5 lollipop rom so, dream come true!!
So,
In Lollipop 5.1.1 days: I was very happy that this phone can run tw lollipop very well. Everything is working fine. But it got lags already. The camera was not similar with kitkat. I cannot use the 1.9mp on the rom (because it has a camera bug that was not fixed until now and then) the rest, its very okay. It feels like I am using new phone again in 2016. My battery was slightly bad and i need to charge my phone 2 times a day. I used lollipop rom until november 2018.
I saw a post that S5 mini receives marshmallow update so i expected that devs will port tw mm on grand 2. And it actually happened! But it has a lot of bugs and it made my phone not usable.
And I decided to with nougat roms because it became stable so i tried it.
In Nougat 7.1.2: my phone feels different. It was not surprising for me since a stock android (im a lagwiz lover remember) but at least it shows android 7.1.2 haha.
But i encounted a lot of problems. My battery is bad and it overheats my phone. So i stopped using it and went back to kitkat temporarilly.
Thankfully, tw mm development was still alive!! And i was very hyped! I waited days to post the rom. Finally bluetooth was fixed! So i used it. Until now.
Marshmallow 6.0.1 (Now): Similar to motion rom, but without stable cam. The rest is pretty fine. But i like the battery in this rom. It made me charge once a day!
I know its almost 2019 and my Galaxy Grand 2 gets old. But my software experience was still not obsolete for today's standards. Marshmallow is still fine in late 2018. If you ask me how my phone looks, i bought hard case with privacy tempered glass. Pretty cool actually, it makes your phone brand new.
I love my phone. I wont replace it until is really unusable. I cant believe that this phone can handle at least Android 7 even if this is old. Happy Grand 2 user here.
(This is my opinions, software experiences about this device. Please tell me your stories )
