Tab 4 Battery - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a t330nu and have had some wierd things happen with the battery that I've not experienced with other mobile electronics. First, one cold winter day (I live in the north were it snows alot) I was driving and my battery died, I accidentally left it in the car overnight and when I plugged it in the next day it was at like 87 percent. I unplugged it and it remained at 87 percent for maby 2 hours and then screen went black and it died. It still showed 87 percent untill it died. Plugged it I and charged it back up and everything was normal. I haven't wanted to try to replicate it cuz I don't want to have to replace the battery.
Next wierd thing is sometimes when I use an underpowered charger or my car charger, it shows the plugged in but not charging icon and it actually is charging, my battery says like 2 percent but it will last for hours. I don't like doing this but it has happened on occasion.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on the freeze charging? Comments, questions are welcome. But don't hate lol.
Forgot to mention, I've had this for over a year and battery seems fine given the age. I can usually use it all day on a full charge depending on what I'm doing. But GPS kills it in like 3 or 4 hours and some other games and apps drain it stupid fast. Any tips on kernels or roms that help with battery life?

I dont think that leaving tablet to low temp fr 12 hrs or so wont damage it that much, i got my 7.0 version and walked to school at -27 celsius and it lost none % (walked like 15 mins)

Weird Battery Problem!!

Now to start of, I have a T-mobile MDA with the 2.17 rom upgrade. My problem is my battery would jump from say 50 % to like 90%. Like today the battery was completely dead and i charged it up to 57% and hat to stopp because i had to run to the gym. Im at the gym and look at my power it mysteriously jumped up to 91%. now i know it doesnt have 91% because it was only charging for about a half hour. anyone know why it does this. Also i notice that when it does this the battery drains really fast until it gets down to the number it would normally be at if it didnt jump. Thank you in advance
about the battery...
If you recharge your battery every day when it has anything between 45% and 70% leaving it charging overnight, what effect will it have?
The battery producers claim that batteries don't have the "memory effect." Is it entirely true?

I have had this issue as well - my suggestion leave it charging and try not to use it while its charging - or if you do remove it from the charger. Last night my charge went from 85 to 100% and light went green. But today during light usage I went from 100 right back to like 86% immediately not gradually.
Some sort of bug I think
yah i guess its just a bug. I wonder how many others are experiencing this
Wierd charge readings
I'm getting the same thing. I am also running the 2.17 ROM but I only noticed it yesterday. I've had the 2.17 ROM for about 3 or 4 weeks but never noticed it happening before. For me it happens if I'm charging and then for whatever reason disconnect the unit from the charger. It jumps to 100% and i guess there is some internal circuitry which prevents any further charge being applied. Nothing scientific but it doesn't appear to happen if I'm charging off the laptop using a USB cable. Has only happened with mains charger. Might do some tests later on to try and find something more concrete but on the other hand I'm not sure that it bothers me much.

Does anyone have any idea what happened to my Desire Z?? (over heating issue?!)

Hi guys,
Does anyone have any idea to this WEIRD issue I've had with my Desire Z?
Basically, my phone was working normally last night. I then put my phone on to charge as normal before I went to bed, and I left it on the bed. About 5-6 hours later (I had to get up early today...) I turned over and touched the back of the phone and woke up shocked, as the back of the phone BURNED me! I got very confused and looked at the phone. It was VERY hot to hold, and it was on 42% battery. I then took the battery out, and it was almost hot enough to burn me. I left the battery out of the phone until I got up properly and tried turning it back on, and it got very hot, very fast.
I figured it could be a problem with the 1800 mAh Mugen battery I was using, so I decided to put my old stock HTC battery in. I got the same problem.
It seems to have got slightly better now, but I can only really use the phone in 5-10 minute bursts now. When the phone has booted up the battery will report around 36 degrees. After 5-10 minutes it sails up to about 50 degrees before I turn it off. The battery also drops off fast between reboots, losing around 10% each time I reboot (however, it doesn't seem to drop that fast when I'm actually using the phone...).
I am rooted and using Cyanogen Mod 7, and I recently flashed to the 151 nightly. I tried flashing to some of the earlier nightlies I still had on the phone, but the issue is exactly the same.
I did have the phone in the bootloader for a while (volume down+trackball), and it didn't seem to overheat. However, when I tried charging the phone with the device off the battery seemed to get VERY hot (way more hot than normal).
Luckily I can still back up anything I need to back up, and I am going to start doing wipes soon (assuming the phone doesn't overheat while wiping, which worries me!), but I am very confused!
I'm thinking that some sort of short circuit has happened, or something?
Does anyone have any ideas? If it's a definite hardware problem I can get a replacement fairly easily, but I do love my Z, so it's the last thing I want to do...
Very lucky my dad has a Samsung Galaxy Tab I can borrow as a phone for now. It will be fun for a day or two having a 7" tablet as a phone, but it will get old fast!
Thanks a lot, all!
Edit: I think it's had it. I tried using another charger and another USB cable and leaving it charge for a bit. When I came back after about 15 mins, again the phone was very hot, and the indicator light was flashing green and orange. When I tried to boot the phone it was dead. When I plugged it back in the indicator light would flash orange on and off for a while, then start blinking weirdly. Lucky my mugen battery still has about 15% charge... xD

It's *possibly* this problem.
My phone does the same thing, gets SUPER hot when charging, and has extremely short battery life.
Mine's not charging at all now, so I'm not even sure what to do at all :/
If I use the phone a lil and my Mugen battery dies, I won't be able to turn it on at all, so I'm not sure whether to start wiping and stuff now...
General consensus is to not leave the phone to charge overnight?
not with today's technology. all batteries (atleast good ones) have an internal circuit that keeps the battery from over charging. it also provides a method to maintain the charge by letting the phone drain some battery over the night by 5-10% then performing a trickle charge to slowly (very slowly) recharge the battery.
I've been leaving my stuff charging overnight for over a decade. It's not as bad as you think it is.

[Q] Nexus 4 Charge time

Hello Experts,
I received a new nexus 4 and noticed that it takes around 3.5 to 4 hrs for complete charging from 5% to 100%.... is it normal? my other sony xperia seems to be charge in about 1..5 hr
since i am new to Nexus 4, not sure what is the avg charge time and should i call for RMA? Please let me know what is the avg time for charging.
thx
Ganu
Perfectly normal. You want a nice slow steady charge, especially in a sealed phone. The battery needs to last as long as possible. Fast charging batteries significantly reduces their lifespan. My old Nexus S takes the same amount of time to charge from 5%.. 3-4hrs or so give or take.. I still have the two year old original battery and it holds a charge just as well as it did the day I bought it. Meanwhile my 15 minute charge AA batteries I bought last year lose their charge in a week just sitting on the desk.
Mine is just about the same, but that's under use. If I don't touch the phone, it typically charges to 100% in about an hour.
And if it's through USB.. um.. more like 8 hours to fully charge.
Battery widget reborn (awesome app btw) says my phone usually charges in about 2.5 hours. This is on Qi though not sure about the regular wall charger.
2-2.5 hours for me on usb wall charger and Qi Orb.

From 2 hr 45 min (from around 12-15% juice left), my charge time has reached to 3 hr 30 mins now (i.e. from 1% juice left)... 14% juice wouldn't make such a huge difference so don't really know why it increased..

yes, this is one of the reasons i started this thread to understand what everyone is experiencing.... i called up the google customer support and they are ready to send in a RMA as it appears to be a higher side...
so let me know your thoughts guys...should 3.5 hrs charge time considered high and warrant a RMA? share your thoughts.
^ Hmmm.. I doubt if this would mean anything serious or worth RMA-ing. I can but I won't RMA my device because it's been exceptional so far. I am fairly happy with it and wouldn't want to get it replaced with a defected one.
Its perfectly normal especially from around 5% to 100%.. In my experience if you dont let it get below 20% it usually charges faster. I wouldnt RMA it especially if your phone is perfectly fine in other aspects.
I tried with a different charger yesterday and it took similar time. The charger has same voltage input levels.
You charge 3 hours, for only double the lifetime. How pathetic, actually. I didn't thought that the battery life would be that bad. I can hardly make trough 1 day, if I play some games, make some calls, and use a little bit of internet. On the last charge I got 4Hours of screen on time with 15% left.
Gosh, at least it's fun to use it. :/

[Q] What are your charge times looking like?

I thought the charge time would be long. This morning in class my battery dipped down to 12% as the class was wrapping up. I got back home around between (9:50 and 10am) and started charging my note 2014 while it was powered off. In ~2.5 hours I'm around 55-60%. Personally I don't think this is too bad at all.
What have your experiences been like so far?
Update. I just unplugged it and I'm at 91%. This thing charges much faster than I thought. What were the conditions in which reviewers said it was 7+ hours?
Update: I'm also interested in how long the charge tends to last for you.
mine was ~2.25 hrs from 20% to 80% then ~1.5hrs for 80%100%. the fast charge cycle is pretty decent, it's that last 20% trickle that can feel like it's dragging on. bmw pro says 4:14 for a full 0-100% charge which seems to be in line with my results.
I put mine on the charger at 5% before going to bed. When I got up 5 hours later it was fully charged. Not sure when it reached full charge but definitely less than 5 hours.
From 5% to 100% in 4hours en 45 minutes.At 5% screen on time of 7 hours en 24 minutes!

This occurs with mine as well. It's that 80-100% that takes a while but when I charge it anywhere before that it's pretty fast. Probably helps with the long term battery life. Which I'm fine with.
I'm thinking that review got a bad battery. This happened with my first GN10.1 when it took forever to charge after using it the first weekend.
I swapped it out and the new one charged fairly quickly (considering). This new tablet seems to be just a little longer to charge but not 7 hours.
This has been about my experience too. I was really worried before because a lot of reviews said this tablet takes forever to charge to full. Glad to see that smart-charging mitigates this almost completely since an 80% charge easily gets me through a full day of moderate use.
Mine has been 4.5-5 hours, which is AWESOME!
People expect it to charge as fast as their phone need to realize the battery is much larger! I have had the same experience with a new, bad battery taking longer to charge as well though.
The 1st picture attached is my charge time for one night so far. Using the System Monitor app. Really digging that app. You can even have floating windows that stay on top as you run things.
Sent from my SM-P600 using xda app-developers app
my charge times are about 4 hours from 5% to 100 with screen on and energy saver, with it off, i go from 5% to 1005 in about 3 hours
As pleasant a surprise the charge time was I must admit that the charge tends to go pretty quickly. I'll post back with specifics when I get a chance to properly mark the times and usage.

Slow charge, fast drain

So I had this 910C for a while. Still love this phone but recently the stand by time kept decreasing. This was my second battery but I used fast charging, so I thought what the heck, I will just buy a new one.
Well I did, and the stand by time is just as bad. Almost half my battery is gone by the morning, and the battery barely wants to charge as well. (it's like the phone is cold and the charger is also just lukewarm.)
So what the heck?
Is there a known hardware defect on the Note 4 for this?
Even if I could replace the phone (but why when it works great otherwise), I would still like to keep it around as a secondary device.
Any ideas?
Ps.: Now when I was writing this, my phone also got quite hot but the AUKEY portable charger is cold. My percentage was 16-17 and it could not go higher.
Well, after long hours of charge the new battery does show 100%, but when I make a call the phone gets extremely hot. Like it burns my face.
This morning I watched like 5 minutes of Netflix and that ate ~20% of my battery.
The battery does not get hot, is not bulked up, it's very hot around the main chip...
Using latest Samsung OS btw, don't even have root installed atm.
