Can I change the firmware on my Chinese MX4 Pro to the International version? - Meizu MX

I appreciate that it may be a re-flash rather than an update, but should this work? I'm keen to have a go but I'm a bit wary!

No, you cant. You will get an error and the recovery wont let you to install the firmware.
But, why do you want to put the international?

Thanks for the reply. I did type something but it's gone AWOL. Anyway, I was thinking of updating to get rid of the Chinese apps that can't be deleted by normal means, which I guess would also stop the Chinese notification that I get. It's not a massive issue and the phone generally works great.
One annoying thing is that the Google Calendar widget doesn't update to the current day. If I click into it is highlights today, but the widget often shows that it's yesterday or the day before. Other calendar widgets update but I don't like them so much. I was kind of thinking that this may be to do with some odd interaction with some Chinese stuff, but it may be nothing to do with that.
Edit: I realise that I can root easily and delete the Chinese apps, but I'm a bit scared I may delete something fundamental and the phone may break!

Dont worry about removing system apps. You will not break the phone doing this
Have you set the correct permissions in security app to the calendar?

I got a install-recovery.sh based TWRP so it is possible to flash the international version with a little bit of zip modifying.

Thanks, but this sounds a bit risky for someone like me. Even rooting and deleting apps may be risky for someone like me but I'll give that a go.

Can someone tell me what will happen with future Flyme updates if you root and delete some of the Chinese apps? Do they come back and have to be removed again? Thanks!

Samsung Galaxy on5 (sm-550T1) soft bricked by FRP after using TWRP

Edit: here's the metropcs firmware https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwpP0WNhAe9vdXZkVUNvMXFqMWc/view?usp=drivesdk
Edit:Title is wrong, its a sm-g550t1
Hi there. I'm really in desperate need of help. I am not always a very smart man.
I recently installed TWRP using the guide for this phone, and the first thing I encountered was I couldn't install it from download mode due to FRP. So I googled that, saw it would go away if I unlinked my Google accounts, which it did. Then I made a backup immediately.
However, later I linked my Google accounts and so now, after restarting, my phone will just say Custom Binary blocked by FRP. I can no longer access recovery mode, only download mode, and I can't install anything due to the FRP lock.
I am very frustrated, have gotten little sleep, because as I said I am not always a very smart man. I rely on my phone for my work and I can't afford another one. Someone gave me the stock firmware but its in the TWRP format and I don't know how to install those files with Odin.
So please, if you have time I really need help. If i could offer any sort of financial thanks I would but I just can't right now. But I swear I'll send so much good karma your way. I've definitely learned a lot from this process, usually breaking **** is how I learn best, but I wish I did this with a throwaway.
So I've narrowed it down a bit. I need a stock recovery.img and maybe a stock system.img so I can flash them in odin. Please, if you can somehow help I really need it right now.

To root and flash or to not root and flash, that is the question!

I have rooted and flashed just about every android phone I have owned, including SGS2, SGS4 and SGN4 that I had previous to the SGS7e.
I am very happy with the smoothness and fluidity of stock. And I know what advantages root etc brings.
But my question is... are custom ROMS considered to be as smooth and fluid as stock?
advantages: Xposed, other than that I don't see a reason.
You could root without flashing a custom ROM?

I miss boeffla sound the most. The stock rom sound output is terrible(lack of bass and treble). My older note 2 blows my Sony xb50ap to the fullest
Second being xposed framework. Annoying youtube ads
Least concerned about controlling cpu/gpu speeds since it is already an overkill right now
Only thing limiting me from rooting is the irreversible knox that gets tripped and void the warranty

Ever heard of an app called "S package disabler" before? You can delete almost anything, even the stock messaging app or such, lol.
Ooh I came to the right thread, just got my s7 edge as a replacement for my note 5 and boy am I itching to root it... I only lasted a few weeks with my note 5 until I had to root it.. I agree the ui and performance is great on stock but I'm missing viper4android and titanium backup badly... I wanted to stay stock so I could use Samsung pay and my bankings mobile payment but I don't see myself using it much. That and maybe also resale value since id like to upgrade to the s8 but I'm not sure how much longer I can hold off lol. Hopefully this thread will help my decision...

Wait... There shouldn't be Facebook app pre installed first of all... If it is, you should be able to easily remove it. You should try flashing a clean version of the rom (even if stock) from a different region (not US, for unlocked versions). I think after this you won't have any apps to disable.
The only app that I had pre installed was My Vodafone, which I need anyway but it can be easily uninstalled. Also, I disabled S voice but that's on every Sammy phone.
This is the one version that is working for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.packagedisabler
Erm... Was working should I say. With the last version, it keeps crashing for me. I'm sure it will be fixed soon tho.

Yea, unfortunately true. Without root, nothing will be truly removed/deleted.

Well.. You know how it goes. Legally it doesn't void your warranty, companies just rely on those customers who don't care, and unfortunately there is majority of those.
Btw, try to flash the clean rom if you have the international version. This won't void your warranty (it will not trigger knox) as its original package directly from Samsung.

No..i was not talking about debloated (custom) rom. I was talking about a clean stock rom without the apps you mentioned. It's just a rom that is official, probably targeted to a different market/country and it won't trigger knox.
You can download it here, an installation guide is there as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3335065
I know this might sound pathetic to the pro flashers but for me the biggest advantages are no ads, no bloatware and no samsung emojis. Custom Roms are amazing but I simply don't have the time to flash everything anymore
True, I've been a flasher myself but now I'm just not into it, just want a phone to run properly, be productive and that's it... That's why had a Note 5 then the 7...really missing the pen functionality

You can uninstall Facebook app. Go to App settings -> Facebook and firstly you need to disable it and then you can uninstall it.
When I tried this for the first time, I was surprised too....because I couldn't directly uninstall it.
Cheers!
No bloat, no Verizon, no Sammy, no ads; old Linux days, where you installed whatever packages you wanted to the base OS...

I did try that, it just restores it to the version that came with it pre-installed... I can't remove it because I used to have a patched version with the messenger integrated in the app itself...

It's impressive that on so many forums everywhere people decide they need to only give their own opinion of situations instead of answering original poster's questions.
While I'm also skeptical that an official update would be the cause such a massive slowdown on his phone, that's not really what he asked to be addressed, even if the answer may be obvious to some.

Unfortunately as your S5 has the Toshiba chipset (emmc of 11) there is no way to downgrade the firmware to Lollipop or KitKat. The bootloader is locked. You are out of luck unless you or someone else figures out an exploit.
You can start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909 This explains in a good bit of depth the current status of Verizon S5 bootloaders.
Other than that, just start searching and googling. It's probable that someone else has a similar issue as you. And like Rumsfield said, it's highly unlikely that an official update (which is what it sounds like you have) would be the cause of such a dramatic change in your phone's speed, so it would be worthwhile to investigate further. Have you deleted your dalvik/cache in the recovery? Have you done a hard reset? These are things you have to do before you blame the firmware, and if you have done already, it's a good idea to mention that in your original post so that you avoid unnecessary responses.
Good luck!

I have a very uneducated question to ask, don't or do The FOTA logs in the recovery menu contain all check values and patch notes old - new? Again bare with my lack of knowledge on this topic but if pushed ota and still in log can it be pulled although maybe enough info alone in log for aboot and other values as far a checks but can it be modified even with filler as what it looks like on a battery self check and re injected through command as OTA? Last question before I'm stone to death for being the forum idiot here...if something is odexed and after the patch now labeled an 8 digit number kinda like Cid or emmc or whatever the long as chipset number for instance has the another value as an I'd in the middle of it can it inturn be reversed so parameters are matched and verified and possibly editited? Thanks

Oh. Forgot to ask I didn't see a check after the
command: "/sbin/recovery" "--update_package=/cache/fota/update.zip" "--carry_out=open_fota" "--locale=en_us"
Is that a forced allowable command? The real last question and believe me I have searched threads with no luck but the mention of a dev phone and aboot.mdn
Is the recovery file system table
0/boot emmc/dev/block/platform/msm_sscc.1/by-name/boot (/dev/block/mmcblk0p15) 0
1/ ect...
2/ect..
If the 0 is a 1 would that turn any phone into dev phone or allowable options
And noticed the checks were against the chipset and matching verizon fw although att and tmo had 0 values if values were 1''s would that allow you to you the right matching chipset for att and it's fw tmo ect.. or even the 15mmc instead of the 11?

I was curious about this phone what options there were after the update to gain root access I have never chimed in as I was trying to read all past and present post on this topic kind of gets a little confusing one would think outdated post and procedures would be deleted or timestamped to where if the method dosent work anymore why have it up unless only as a reference. You were asking a question that was very convoluted from a "new" account, turns out you created it like 3 years ago and never posted. Ok, go easy on me.
Since the upgrade from Lollipop to 6 my verizon Samsung S5 was slower with lag but still bearable. However after today's security patch its so slow it's almost unusable. How can I force it back to Lollipop?
I know almost nothing about rooting/JB but willing to learn something new as long I don't brick it. I just don't understand the terms and risks and process. Where do I start?
Thank you.

Ok so first your warranty is void (gone) also make sure you backup your phone like photos etc take screenshots of needed text messages also your phone has an 11 CID (I sadly have one to) Like you mentioned which is not unlockable so we have to go back to Lollipop to root and what do you get with root you get the ability to flash custom Touchwiz based roms anything aosp/cm/linage wont work because our bootloader is locked and there is no current exploit to unlock them there is alot of Touchwiz based roms available I added screen shots on how my S5 looks I'm running Alliance rom I have added the themes from an older version of Alliance rom and added Viper4arise Viper4arise is a really cool sound mod it gives you increddible sound there is also xposed framework now if your interested in rooting download the drivers http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows extract the zip and run the exe then download odin from https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 extract the zip and run odin now power off your phone and hold Volume Down + Home + Power then click Volume Up To Accept then plug your phone into your computer make sure it shows Up in Blue in the top left in Odin Should say something like "COM" now download https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298975100 that is your lollipop tar.md5 download that and extract the zip now click AP in odin and select that tar.md5 you extracted from the zip odin might freeze but its verifying the file once its verified click start this Should downgrade the phone now you might have to pull the battery if the phone wont boot afterwards (stuck on Red Verizon Screen) and boot into recovery by powering off the device (Pull the battery) and then Holding Volume UP + Home + Power untill you see "Recovery booting" in the top left now use the Volume buttons to scroll and power to select go Down to Wipe Data / Factory Reset and click power button once its highlighted now use Volume buttons to go Down to Yes and click Power to select it when it is finished click power when Reboot now is highlighted now root the phone using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve.../testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529 or this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370 if you ever need help you can Private Message me on XDA.
You can even go back to kitKat and safestrap will work But you have to root 5.0 First here is a guide I made https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...al/how-to-install-kitkat-lolipop-pb1-t3589151

understandable. no i usually have not ran into many problems before. as it has been years since i messed with these phones and decided to mess with them again alot has changed i updated one of them and was looking for a way back being it has the 11xxx toshiba chip. as far as replying to quote i have never posted before i just thought i was replying to thread or whatever but just glad i received a response lol. i was just curious i was looking in the recovery menu at the logs from the FOTA update that i accidentally accepted. noticed they were very detailed which i thought was unusual. Again very very detailed like source code or whatever the raw format is called and was curious if it could be pulled with an adb command. the second part was a shell script whatever excuse my ignorance when it comes to this but after they were ran they were checked/verified or whatever and showed values that must have been met, which lead me to ask about is there a way to use adb to unlock the boatloader as an update.zip? thanks

LG V20 US996 radio off after Security update 2017

I'm in the UK and imported the v10 shortly after release which let me down earlier this year by turning off, so I upgraded and imported a v20 which was fine, however I received an update this morning which after running, has left me with no network or reception. I've checked around and the radio is off and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it back on.
I've tried whichever code it is that gets me into the phone information and then get an error message saying the application isn't installed.
I've read that restoring the phone fixed previous problems for some people, but it's only created more problems for me as despite using LG's useless backup app to backup personal data, settings etc, none of the settings/home screen/passwords or whatever have carried over. I've been kicked out of most of my apps and contacts aren't connecting with others.
Can anyone suggest a way to either roll back to whatever the previous version was, or to get the radio to turn back on so I can use my phone as a phone?
I seriously should've stuck with my G2 which is still working after all these years!
Same here...just updated and no service...trying to get the radio on but to no avail. This code will let you enter the service *#546368#*version number#.
I am on US996 version, what is yours?
US996 as well. I'm talking to someone from LG USA now and they're saying there's no way to fix it unless I send it in, which I can't do.
Wondering if rooting and flashing a new OS will work. I need the security for online banking, but I also need to be able to receive calls.

For real? Send it in back to the states? Why would they release an update that bricks a phone seriously? I was now live chatting with someone from their support and she's like i need to send it on my expense but it still under warranty so i wont pay anything but they ship only back to the US and i live abroad...What a big hassle... Hopefully someone will have a fix.
Did you do a factory reset?
I think I would find a kdz for the last known good firmware and restore back to that.
Factory reset and lost all my settings. I can't get back into half of the apps because they require security confirmation via text or phone call.
Luckily my phone is still under warranty, so I might have to send it. I have a friend who can receive it and send it back to the UK. Cheaper than a new phone.

I did using LGUP...the service is still off...i donno why would they update the phone in order to brake it...Anyone had any luck with this??
Damn.
Well I'm trying to figure out when is best to send it overseas, but I'll be doing that. Using my G2 for the time being.
This really might be it with LG. I haven't liked what they've been doing with their phones since the v10 and there seem to be endless problems with everything since the G2.
No Service after the update
Guys im stuck as well. did everything restored the old firmware using LGUP. and then updated again. still no service. i don/t know what to do. please help.
You can try using TWRP flashing this modem.
Remember to use Dirtysanta to unlock the bootloader, not through the LG Developer Program, so you can save your warranty.

Thanks Anoneko for your great suggestion . I installed that modem image using TWRP and WOOOOOW my network came immediately.
I followed the below thread of installing TWRP before installing the modem image.

I've read over the information and I'm fairly sure rooting it will lose all the stuff I need.
I'm not fussed about warranty as it runs out in 2 months, but I use android pay /Internet banking daily.
Glad you got it sorted out though.

Need to Flash an S8 used on Straight Talk

A friend of mine gave me an S8 phone. Its reset and wiped clean. I was trying to set it up but it requires his old gmail account and password to get in to. The problem is, it won't take his password. He emailed google about it and he's waiting to see if they will recover his account on it. He won't be using the phone anymore as he has a new one. I'd like to use it as I have an S7 and this one has double the storage space that mine has.
If they can't recover his account, I want to flash the memory and start over. I've been a computer tech for 20 years so I know all about flashing the BIOS and how that can brick it. My question is, since I can't get into the system of the phone and see what the version of the firmware is, how confident can I rely on the back of the phone where it says SM-G950U? I've read that even though its branded that way on the back, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will show that in the system. I've downloaded the newest firmware I can find for it, SM-G950U_201910251442240_c0osvhilm6_fac from Updato and will use Odin to flash it with.
This was used on Straight Talk and has Tracfone branding on the startup.

You know I've been sitting here thinking about this. And it's TRUE 100% most of the bricks and bricking does happen on the locked us devices. Me myself even have a semi bricked one just sitting here to no avail of fixing hours and hours spent. They are a lot more finicky it seems than a unlocked bootloader ???
I'm sorry but I'm still having trouble getting this to work. I've tried the combo file and putting the extracted file in the AP section, and while that works, the phone just goes into a loop from the Factory Binary to that Settings screen and once its rebooted, it all starts again. What am I doing wrong? I've reset it to factory data several times.
