Your problem isn't something that you can fix from your computer I think that the only thing that you can do is to disassemble the phone completely and let it dry in the sun or your hair dryer an then check again

How is that hope when his phone is water damaged and what you link is for bricked phones? Or am I misunderstanding?

Because it shows up on the pc. This means is alive and just hard bricked.

It's possible that it may be able to be recovered. Try the debrick method in the link I posted above. It's going to forever be water damaged, which could possibly lead to early component failure, but you might be able to revive it.

Seriously dude, water damaged means hardware damaged. No way that he can just unbrick. This is something totally different, it's just false hope which I which wasn't but in reality is.

OP, you can belive that if you want. IMO it's worth a try. After having been able to recover water damaged devices myself, I'd be trying if it were me. Might not work, but what's the harm in trying?

[Q] Water damaged Nexus 4, salvageable?

Hey all,
About a month ago my nexus 4 met up with my washing machine, and as a result was submerged in water for about an hour. Shortly after the incident I opened it up to see what the damage was and the only damage I saw was some indications of corrosion on the motherboard (image 1) and (image 2). On the reverse side (image 3) you can see there is no such corrosion. Unfortunately in the confusion after taking the phone out of the water, I tried to boot it up.
Tonight, 1 month later I was fooling around and I plugged the phone in. What I got at first was the "red LED of death", but when I held the power button, the white battery symbol (image 4) popped up and the phone vibrated, followed by bitter nothingness.
My question is to ask whether or not I could salvage my dear Nexus, and how I could do this. My theory is that I would replace the fried board with a fresh one and maybe the battery too, but
1) do you think this would work? and 2) where could I find a replacement motherboard? I'm sorry to bother you but I think this information might save me a couple hundred bucks and may enlighten others with my same misfortune. Thanks,
Jack

I'm not too sure about this but I think you'd be better off getting a new one entirely than purchase a motherboard, replace it yourself and run the risk of your original problem not even being the motherboard.

Would this work even if I had powered it up after the incident. I'm pretty sure all the water is out of it but there might be some soap residue.
Update* Bootloader
Surprisingly, I was able to access the boot loader screen with the arrows and the android guy getting a sun tan, but upon trying to boot i get a Google screen and then back to black. What I think now is that the problem is that the battery shorted, so when I can I am going to transplant my brother's battery into my phone and see if it works. If this is successful it will surely be a triumph of Nexus 4 over human error! Below is a picture of where I got to (apologies for the blurriness).
When it happened on my g2. I could only get into the bootloader. Anything else would go and last a second and short out. I took a toothbrush plus the alcohol and that's what worked for me.

That is exactly what is happening to me, where exactly did you scrub with the alcohol? This sounds awesome, did you just dip the brush and scrub all the components? Thanks
Pretty much. I dipped the brush into the alcohol and carefully went brushing slowly the motherboard. Make sure it's 99% so that there is minimal water content in the alcohol. Let it air dry and put everything back in and see if it worked.

I was limited to 91% but heard that that worked. I had to submerge some of the encased parts and am currently letting the whole thing air-dry for 2 days in a bag with some rice. Will report results. Thank you for all the help.

Sounds stupid but did you tried to flash a recovery, boot on it, and side load a zip from there. Maybe your ROM as been broken or smth. Just my 2 cents. Good luck !

Unfortunately I am a but a yeoman in the subject of such things, and even after searching the internet for hours I could not figure out how to side load and flash files onto it. I can only get to the boot loader screen and download mode, and when I try to get into CWM on it it fails. When I tried to connect it to my computer and fix it with the Nexus root toolkit it didn't recognize the ADB or whatever. I am confident that this is a software issue now and feel that the solution lies just outside my grasp at the moment. Again, thank you guys for all your help.

Since you can get into the bootloader, try using fastboot to flash a recovery.img. make sure you place it in your fastboot folder.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
See if you're able to boot into recovery then. If you do not have fastboot setup, check the stickies for the rooting guide. The beginning helps you with that.

Yeah I tried to do that and I can connect via fastboot but not ADB. When I tried to flash a custom boot image via fastboot in a toolkit though, it got to a teamwin screen for a millisecond then crashed to a black screen and red led of death. Do you guys think its possible that the problem is the battery is shorted so I cant get enough power to boot the phone, even if it is plugged into a computer?
*Update- Dead
I just finished a round of trying to boot and flash and all of the sudden the phone is just dead. No bootloader, no Led, no vibration, just dead. Does anyone know why this happened? Could this be a result of the battery damage or do you think the motherboard is fried? Thanks again.

Sea water is bad. The salt corrodes electronic contact points really fast.

Looks like I'm done. Back with my old Gnex. Thanks guys, I'll try to open it and rub with alcohol; can't risk anything anyway.
Could you please explain why trying to turn it on does damage it more?
U can try all the above things but I don't think it would work in this case. Because u didn't pull the battery (not really possible very fast) your phone got short circuited and is probably dead.
Also, if it works your phone will get all sort of other problems after a while. This can be everything from reboots till cam failure.
My advise, sell it and get yourself a new one!

Too much heat is bad for any kind of electric devices. A little warm to dry up is pretty okay, but I recommend no heat at all. Heat will causes expansions that could misshape the devices and leads to other issues (such as disconnect in the mainboard, durability decreased, battery probably wears out faster). Higher temperatures also increase the electrical resistance of the conducting lines, slowing the signal speed and reducing performance.

Mate... Unfortunately my nexus 4 never turned back on. But then the above tips are very legit, at worst it won't turn on again, but if you're lucky everything could be alright except for your camera which most probably has been short circuited. Did you try to turn it on since it fell in the water?
As for my galaxy nexus which was in my pocket when I fell into a pond full of fish at a hotel, it was fortunately not salt water, survived with my camera short circuited and I think part of my board as well as it became slower but then its still works. It was completely drenched as well.
Well its none of my business, how come yours fell into water? My dad's nexus 4 fell down and the screen was completely shattered :'( we are unfortunate with nexus phones here, phones only as my nexus 10 never had any problems since purchased xD
All the luck be with you

I messed up big time, desperate for help

Hey all I went swimming yesterday and forgot to take my phone out. It spent 5 mins under water. Im very tech savy and knew to put in a bowl of rice and let sit for 24 hours. Put phone back together and it booted up!! Heres the problem and question I have.
Problem is everything on phone works but the touch screnn (power, volume up and down, settings and go back buttons) I get notifications from Facebook and when I hit the goback or settings button or power phone on it vibrates.
Question is since everything on screen works ( meaning it shows all icons that are turned on and shows me my custome background and apps) can I just replace the digitizer or is it one piece with the screen and I have to replace both?
Any help would be deeply apprechiated as I dont have $650 to buy a replacement phone

Originally it booted all the way to my home screen, meaning the OS fully loaded. Then when the touchscreen didnt respond I decided maybe it would be best to do a full data wipe and factory install. I figured since 90% of the phone did comback and work I thought a factory restart. Would fix the touch sensitivity. So when I did that it took me to a set up screen for my phone, asking me location and language settings. I cant continue past that point because the screen is unresponsive. However I suspect if I could get past that point the phone would fully boot as it did the 15 times prior to the wiping of data and factory reset option I choose.
I hope this helps you, Im doing my best to explain everything in as much detail as possible
Thanks for helping me

Very good possibility replacing the digitizer alone would do it. I would also highly recommend cleaning all battery terminals, circuit boards and metal parts with alcohol and a qtip to prevent corrosion.

If you are willing I would try craigslist to see if you find one that may have a cracked screen or been dropped where you could swap parts. If not a quick google search will give you several options. You will probably be looking around 250 for a factory digitizer. Good luck

Ill do that, hey thx again man, heck 250 a lot better than 599 lol
The problem is you don't know if it stops at that 250. There's no guarantee the phone will work reliably for months/years after such incident. You should clean it thoroughly (perhaps by somebody (service center?), who know how to do it properly) to avoid/lessen the risk of any (further?) corrosion inside.
Good luck.

Phone Dead?

I recently dropped my phone into the toilet water.... i quickly removed it and i volume down and power to force it off.. after 2 days i checked the phone again.. it didnt on but i plug the charger.. there was a red led only.. i tried many unbrick methods but i dont think my phone is bricked. I opened up the insides of the phone and all the water has gone and theres no water stuck or anything.. dry
but my nexus 4 is still on red led when plugged in.. I think its battery problem?
I think it's not messed up completely. You should take it to service center ASAP instead of guessing what happened to it.

I think they'll check it for you, so don't worry.
You probably just need a new battery. Everything else should be working fine. Best thing to do is take everything apart and clean them with isopropyl alcohol, then let them dry, buy a new battery and you ll have a working phone again. Sometimes some other components might have problems, like camera or mic/speakers, which are all cheap as spare parts. Plenty of videos on YouTube on how to fix water damage.

[Q] G2 802 Screen doesnt show anything [HELP]

Hello everyone,
I got this problem with my LG G2 that it fell in the water once, I directly put off the phone. (It was still intact after falling in water).
Later I turned it on but the screen did not show up. Sound works, Vibration works, TOUCH screen works (no graphical stuff) and even if I call my self with another phone the LG goes off, vibrates, plays the ringtone and everything.
I sent my phone to Dynafix which is the repair center, they said it's not available for warranty, because its water damage and they declared the phone as "Unrecoverable". Which I think is pretty weird. I have thought of repairing it myself by buying and new LCD and Digitalizer.

I have never done that though but with a good tutorial on YouTube and the right tools I should be able to do it. But before I take any action which may not work I want more info about this problem.
I made a video of my phone but can't post any links here, the name is: "LG G2 screen doesnt go on? [HELP!]"
Thanks:good:
Don't waste your time or money on this. If it was completely immersed in water, it is in fact unrecoverable. The water might not have an effect on the device the first couple of hours, but after a short while it will corrode it's way trough the device, rendering it useless. The repair center won't touch it because they know that no matter what they do, there is a huge risk that the corrosion will come back. You're better off with a new device.

The phone in on the charger and on, Everyday I still hear sounds and such. The phone hasnt been in water more then 1 sec though. And afterwards I left it drying in dry rice for 1 week. I know i am a bit selfish but I think there could be a chance of making it work.
The phone comes with a subscription for 2 years and it's not even a year old ;/

Not exactly the same but a friend was skipping lessons at school when we were like 10 (10ish years ago) and using Gameboy Advance SP in the toilets... you can guess what happened... Any way i took it apart and left it in a closet for a few days, gave it back to him fully working after. So it's not necessarily un-fixable.

How fast until you took it apart? Also, did he remove the batteries quickly after water exposure? I'll bet that's not the case with the phone here...

Didn't remove battery, just the back cover

Well yeah, I just turned it off got the back cover off but not got the battery out. and let it dry.
Is there any way to acces the phone's screen through my PC? The phone is rooted.
Fixed the phone!
I removed the main board from the phone and brushed the connections with a toothbrush. Re-assembled the phone and it worked!
The only money I spent is for a plastic opening tool and a philips screwdriver.
