[Q] Is My Phone Hard Bricked Or Doing What It's supposed to do - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

FIX :
So this is after all of the help I've gotten.
To start this off I'm giving a huge Thank you to
"The Marionette"
I first doubted you and did not listen. But got me to a final functioning LG G2.
"NBreunig3"
Got me on the right path. At first i was just out 'n about, He got me to the right posts which then lead me to a final fix.
So enough with that,
If you first have an LG G2 thats just a black screen when you start it. No download mode, No recovery mode. Follow this video,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5b_osUTug&feature=youtu.be
So this will make you be able to use Download Mode and Get into recovery mode. Recovery mode didn't do squat for me, TWRP didn't work and factory resetting doesn't work.
Download mode on the other hand, It got me back to stock firmware. Follow this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
I had problems using the KDZ version, TOT Worked great.
This will get you back to stock lg g2, Which for me was 4.2.2 and this will remove everything, Apps and pictures will be GONE.
So now you're In 4.2.2, If you want to you can upgrade or stay, I choose to upgrade so i did via LG PC Suite. It will probably show the latest version avalible to upgrade but it will go through kitkat then lollipop.
That's all for my solution. Great thanks to everybody who helped me out. Give their posts a thanks if this worked for you. It's all because of them.
Hello, so I'm in the proccess of updating to lollipop, For me to do that i was going to backup my stuff in TWRP, whilst i did that it failed, it said that /data was not being mounted, So as usual i googled it and i found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683787
I followed sdbags reply
Code:
You'll need to manually format it using the terminal in TWRP
Make sure data is umounted then run this command. Make sure you have charged it as well or leave it plugged in.
It can take a number of hours to complete.
Code:
mke2fs -T ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
And wrote the code, It didin't seem to work because it still said unable to mount data, So after that i gave up for today, I went out of TWRP and pressed reboot. Now that i rebooted i put my phone in my pocket taking a breath, when i pull it out again i see that It's all black, the screen, It's on but I'm unable to do anything, If i hold in the powerbutton it will give one flick then be all black again.
What I'm wondering is, Is this a hard brick, or is it supposed to do this as the code mke2fs -T order?
I really need help ASAP my phone is completely fu*ked and i need it.
Thank you for reading!

OK there is hope
First pull the battery
1. Then try booting
2. With device off, hold volume down for 3 seconds then power and keep holding until factory reset appears. Click it. This will take you to TWRP.
3. With device off, hold power up and at the same time plug into computer should enter download mode. Then restore using KDZ

You did a simple brick. I already helped an individual with the identical problem, step by step.
I had the same brick too.
So let me explain.
When you connect your phone, lots of drives should be recognised(more than 10). That is fastboot(a normal thing).
But lets try accessing the recovery first
What people dont know is that the G2 has many recovery access options(depending on which OS version/bootloader you were using:
1.Hold VOL-DOWN and the power button, release and press and hold them again when the LG logo appears.
2.Hold power button and then hold the VOL-UP button when the LG logo appears
In both cases,a white "Factory reset" screen will start. Follow the instructions as if you will do a reset(it WOULD do a reset if you didnt have TWRP installed),and it will boot into TWRP.
You probably have a d802 if you are sure that you didnt buy it in any carrier shop, and that you did buy it in Europe.

Hey, I've tried that, When i do either number 1 or 2 the screen is just black/blue ish, No logo anywhere. The only thing i see is when the screen is completely off.
I'm currently following NBreunig3's tip on using this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
I'll get back with the process-

I need to bump this thread. No solutions work. I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 and the linux doesn't even recognize my phone, It's impossible to get up all of the sdb's
I've tried going back to stock with kdz thing, It says that It doesn't detect my phone. There must be a problem there. I've tried different cables and different computers same issue.
Is it possible that all of this is caused by System being unmounted?? Or something else. My phone is encrypted? Could that be something.
Edit : No recovery or download mode show, The screen is either completely off or shows a black / blueish screen but It's on. LG logo never appears.

Did you try following this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56000637
You could have a hard brick, but thus thread should be of help.
But please, follow it carefully, and do not try to rush things.

Hey, I've already tried the no recovery and no download post. Not working.
I'll look Into the hardware part.

Well, hardware stuff is to complicated for me. There is no way that It's going to work. Isn't there any other way via pc? It does show up as qhusb bulk which is a good thing?

You should try a warranty repair if you still have warranty otherwise there are services on sites like eBay that can help you. I have looked on there when my phone was bricked.

Please, check again in Device Manager and tell me the full name of the QHUSB BULK ,otherwise I do not have a f#*!ing clue about your problem.
The exact name and code of your connected QHUSB is crucial.
You can use Snipping Tool(a Windows application which can crop and make screenshots)

Excellent.
You do realise that I asked you if your drives were popping up,and that it would be extremely easy to fix the G2 if you did?
But you IGNORED that question, and went on to other threads...
So now, look at this thread, where I helped the member with the same problem like yours.
But,YOU MUST HAVE ALL THE DRIVERS INSTALLED!!!!!
LG USB DRIVERS( there are ones specific for the g2-"LG G2(All variants)" )
I do think you need the ADb/Fastboot drivers too,do look for them, but probably the LG USB drivers already install it.

Made the Most stupid mistake ever in my life! [FIXED]using modded cable, Thanks.

I hope someone can help, I think my Xoom is fully bricked and there's no way out, please tell me if otherwise.
I initially flashed the Tiamat ROM on my UK WiFi Xoom, the flash was successful, I flashed the ROM from SD Card using ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) (followed all instructions) and then when turning the device on it was in a bootloop, it went past the Motorola Dual core screen and the boot animation would keep looping.
I hard reset the xoom using vol up and power button then when it started up again I pressed volume down and then I was only able to select through nvflash, RSD and fastboot, this made me happy as I realised it was only a partial brick but things went very wrong after that (due to my stupidity).
Anyways, there was no recovery option, so I then tried to do adb reboot recovery, nothing happened, so I thought I would reflash ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 (R4c) using fastboot, but this is the part where I went awfully wrong.
I knew I'm not supposed to flash the zip image, as warned in the ClockworkMod Recovery thread:
"Make sure you download the correct version depending on how you want to flash. I have seen at least two xooms bricked now because they have tried to flash the zip file through fastboot."
but like a stupid idiot I decided to type fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.zip
yep, I typed zip, I was supposed to type .img, and unfortunatly I had both the zip and img files of CWM in the platform-tools folder, so it flashed the zip image.
Now I have a Xoom that's stuck in Motorola Logo screen with "Starting RSD mode 3", when plugging in the USB cable I don't get any sound from the PC that it's detected the device, and trying to run fastboot in that mode brings up "waiting for device"
I know I've gone wrong, like a fool, and I'm assuming I have a real full brick now, or is there anyway round this?
Thanks for reading my extremely long post, please can you help a guy with a £479 paperweight, thanks again.
Worst case scenario: You troubleshoot all options but still can't get your pc to recognize the xoom. You can buy a motorola programming cable or you can make your own to fix your device.
after restarting the xoom, when it gets to the motorola screen can you use the volume doen at all to force it into fastboot or kIs the only option the starting rsd mode 3?

Damn, so this programming cable is the only option then, will this cable let me use fastboot even though the only option now is, well it's not even an option, it just says "Starting RSD mode 3".
Isn't there any other way for me to somehow get it to fastboot?
Thanks for helping.
Seriously, bigrushdog also offered to unbrick anyone's Xoom for $100. If you can't buy or make that programming cable, you might consider taking him up on his offer.
Or just buy one for $50

Don't feel too bad...we all make mistakes. It does feel worse when you know better.
This thread below is about how someone got out of your situation by making the programming cable. If you're not handy with a soldering iron you might just buy the cable as a previous poster suggested.

I had this problem the other day. I kept reading post of people saying do vol + and power and push vol - to get into fastboot. I tried and it wouldn't work. Finally I tried it with-out the usb cable in. I was finally able to get into fastboot, plugged my usb cable up and fixed my issues.
Worth a shot.

Unfortunately that doesn't work for me, been trying it all day, thank you for the suggestion though.
Any one want to sell me an Engineering cable for slightly cheaper than the official price? I'll pay you for it through paypal, or is there anyone here in London, that can unbrick it? Will pay you of course.
I used fastboot to restore mine didn't come up in a adb devices but used the comand. And it worked worth a shot. If your in blackpool I'll give it a shot for you.

Edit:
This might be relevant:
Yesterday while I was mucking around, I erased the recovery partition to see what would happen, and what would you know! It wouldn't boot and I could only get it into RSD Lite. So here's what I did to fix it.
1. Ensure the xoom is plugged in to your pc that has fastboot on it.
2. Reboot your xoom with power + vol up.
3. Hold volume down while booting your xoom. Only do this for about 5 seconds.
4. Your device should now show in fastboot, even though it won't say so on screen.
5. Flash back a valid recovery image
6. Profit!!?!?!
Let me know if this works
OP, I hope you fix your xoom because I don't want you paying anyone $50 to type some fastboot/
adb commands with a special cable.

Fastboot commands don’t work because the PC doesn’t recognise the Xoom when plugged in.

I’m going to try and see if one of those small electronic shops will make me a Motorola Factory Cable. Will let everyone know how I get on.
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has tried to help me.
The electronic shops wont make me a Factory cable even though I know they probably can, I guess they're not bothered.
I guess the only thing I can do now is send it back to Motorola, I wonder how much they are going to charge me.

Get this, a USB-A M-M cable, and a USB-A to micro-USB M-M cable (make sure that pin 4 is pinned and not empty). Get a Y-wire jumper to jump pin 1 of the USB-A cable to both pins 1 & 4 of the cable w/ micro-USB, per the pinout below. Jumper the rest (2-2, 3-3, 4-5).

Woah easy there. We've still got a few more things to try.
I'm certain that your xoom is going into fastboot, and it's just your computer not picking it up.
Could you try using a different USB port, or perhaps a different computer for fastboot?
I can vouch for solarnz technique. Thought I had bricked too, but you just have to keep trying to reboot until you get the timing right. Also you could try booting up with a Ubuntu boot CD and see if it can detect the Xoom. I do my flashing and rooting with Ubuntu. Good luck...

LG optimus L5 not booting

Hello guys,
My brother bought this phone like 2 months ago. After he saw wat kind of extra functions you can have after rooting he wanted it too. So i rooted his phone which wasn't that hard as i also rooted my own phone.
This morning my brother got this message on his phone saying to update. Unfortunately he did not ask me whether he can or not. So after his phone didn't boot anymore, he woke me up saying is getting this weird kind of error. To show you what i mean i made a picture: see attached:

I have been trying things all morning, I also found that rooting is not the cause of this brick. Which i am not sure of.
So to be clear:
The phone can't be connected to the computer,
I can't acces recovery mode.
And i have no idea how to acces flash mode or fastboot made or this thing called emergency mode.
Thanks in advance,
psmerboss

Sorry for my bad english This problem happened to me last mont. I just pull battery out and put back again. I hold power button, it booting normally. But if u can't booting, u cant flash u'r device with kdz updater. To connect with computer, pull battery out, hold volume up and down together while u plug usb cable to computer. Hello guys,
My brother bought this phone like 2 months ago.
To show you what i mean i made a picture: see attached:View attachment 1491870
Thanks in advance,

can u tell me what have u done to recover your phone?

[Q] Lollipop, no root, no recovery, no usb, please help me!

Hello guys,
so here is my situation:
I installed Lollipop but, my recovery is gone. I don't have root, and the worst part is that my USB port in phone is not working properly, it can only be used to charge the device. Is there any way I can root my phone, install recovery or do something to regain flashing abilities?
Please help me, I'm totally lost...
By "USB port not working properly" do you mean the hardware is actually broken, or you couldn't enable the file browser, etc. in recovery (driver issue)?
Which method did you use to install Lollipop?
By USB port not working properly I mean that I think it's actually broken hardwarewise (there is not a single pop up or notification on my phone, and my computer doesn't make blop sound when cable is connected).
I used this zip to flash lollipop:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/rom-t2931659
Sadly now as I said I have no recovery and no root... ?
I would try this
Power off your phone.
Hold volume down and power it on to get this screen

http://www42.zippyshare.com/v/54248296/file.html (fastboot + adb)
Copy them all into the same folder. Hold shift and right click on the folder, and click "open command window here"
In the command prompt type fastboot devices
If it says <random letters and numbers> fastboot then type the following
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-mako.img
You should then have TWRP recovery installed

Have you tried with different data cable?.
1. Download recovery from http://nexus4root.com/cwmtwrp-recovery/
2. place it in the root of the internal storage. Rename it as update.zip
3. Boot into stock recovery and update the zip.
I did try a lot of different cables and a few computers. It really looks like the USB port in my Nexus 4 is broken.
When I try to enter the recovery all I see is a dead robot with red exclamation mark. I've never seen default recovery, how does it look like?
Thanks for trying to help me! ☺

Be careful to not flash anything so you go into bootloop, same thing happend to me. I bought a new nexus 4 :silly:
You'll definitely need to have a PC to get started. Your recovery may be hosed, but that's not the end of the world. You really just need to get the phone into bootloader mode, and get the PC to recognize it. Get the phone into bootloader mode by turning off the phone, then holding the down-volume button and the power button. You'll get a screen that looks like the post above with the supine android and the green arrow. If you can get that far, you should be golden as long as your USB doesnt actually have a hardware problem.
The reason you likely can't get the PC to recognize the Nexus 4 is that there are actually sever different drivers for the phone. A couple for when the phone is on and connected to the PC (one for ADB, another for media access to allow for file access), and another for when the phone is in the bootloader state. Hopefully, reading the previous post about getting your phone into bootloader mode makes sense and it actually works. If so, all is not lost.
The following forum post from efrant is an excellent guide to get your device with the proper image loaded using fastboot. It covers everything from getting the right drivers to the entire fastboot process. READ THROUGH IT CAREFULLY. There are some steps that will absolutely wipe your phone's SD card, though they *might* be optional, depending on the current state of your bootloader. I'm not sure if you care or not at this point about saving data on your SD card, but you might as well try to save what you can, ya? Again: READ THROUGH THE WHOLE POST CAREFULLY.
Here's the forum link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312
Set aside several hours. Start by reading through the forum post completely, until you have a pretty good idea what's involved. Also, make sure you've set up a workspace on the PC you're using to all the necessary files are within reach.
Good luck!

Make sure you're phone is fully charged. I had a problem entering download mode with low battery. I also had to try different usb ports on my laptop for whatever reason.
Take the battery out, recharge it through an external charger.
Also enter download mode via inserting USB Cable (Make sure u have LG United driver installed) and keeping Volume Up button pressed for the whole time until Downlaod mode appears on screen, or atleast the screen is on with those lines.
In case of success (i-e. phone shows signs of life), go to Device Manager in ur PC and see if Android Device is connected. Use LG Flash tool 2014 to flash kdz back to normal or try the tot method just in-case your phone is D802/LS/VS variant which doesn't need download mode tbh, just healthy battery.

And sadly this was my phone. I switched for a while and was coming back and wanted an upgrade to the software. I hadn't updated from 4.4.2 as it had sat in a drawer, then did AutoRec (which I thought I had done before) and boom phone is completely unusable.

I can get signs of life (the bars), and windows makes the "you plugged something in and it worked" sound, but there is nothing in device manager despite having the LG drivers installed. Battery is healthy, I used the phone for a day or so to watch videos and stuff. I was working on it there. I think I need to try a different computer.

Expand under "Ports Com Ports & LPT"
And you will see LGE Com Port Device.
Just flash the kdz away if u see so. otherwise go through the tot method if u see the com port devices to change the com port address to com41 and then flash tot.
I tried this on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7 (all 64-bit versions) and it worked on all of those. Even with USB 3.0 supported laptop.
Your device is at fastboot mode at background, so use fastboot to erase and flashing img files. For example:
fastboot erase laf.img
fastboot flash laf laf.img
you just need your stock img files

Same problem with me tried Kdz Method. But no luck any idea? It's been 3 months em using it like this. Any help?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
So pretty stuck at this point as well. KDZ method stalls at 60%.
UPDATE FASTBOOT WORKING! Took forever to figure out the drivers, but it's working. I have no clue what to do now.
Fastboot won't recognize the device though I have the fastboot driver installed and running. Any ideas?
TOT is just kinda giving up on me. Still chasing down any leads, but the phone feels pretty borked at this point.
Update: Now in download mode! Man this has been crazy. TOT working! Okay so here is how I did it.
First, I downloaded google's ADB drivers and installed the LG drivers as well. I am not sure which one did it. Then I plugged my phone in and went to device manager. For me, it had an unrecognized device and fastboot wasn't working. So I had to manually assign the driver.
Right click on the device and update driver > Let me choose > all devices > Google > LGE mobile ADB interface.
Now fastboot should be working.
Then I used the srktool_2.1. Option 4 then option 4 again, select model number. It reboots to black screen. From there I was able to completely power off (10 second hold on power button). And when it booted back up all the drivers installed. I was able to TOT back to stock using this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. KDZ might work as well.
Unfortunately the screen damage looks to be permanent. But I think this is worth more now than it was 30 minutes ago!

Possibly bricked device, need D80020y image? (URGENT)

Hi, I was trying to update my LG G2 D800 to Lollipop using this guide:
http://webtrickz.com/how-to-update-lg-g2-to-official-lollipop-os/
However, after the device rebooted, it went to the LG logo screen, displayed this message in the top left corner, and went to an indefinite black screen.
boot certification error
secure booting error
cause: boot certification verify
Holding down the power button for about 15 seconds turns the device off, but sometimes it turns itself back on and does it again. Turning it off, then quickly holding volume down and power button, releasing on logo, then holding again brings it to a "Factory Data Reset" screen, however, doing a reset does nothing and puts me immediately back to the same problem.
Holding volume up and plugging it into my PC does the same thing, and when plugged in, windows recognizes about 20 "unformatted drives", and shows it as QHSUB_BULK in device manager, under other devices.
Before this, I was running stock 4.4.2, D80020y, rooted with towelroot. I had attempted to create a TWRP recovery, and it said it succeeded, however it was unable to boot to recovery.
I was going to try to fix it using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
However, I am unable to find an img for D80020y.
I have access to a Win 8..1 desktop, and I can run whatever OS necessary in a VM.
Does anyone know where to find one? Or, can anyone provide me with one? Or, is there another way to fix this?
I'm just worried that my device is totally gone at this point, and considering I bought it used, I have no warranty, nor a phone to replace it, currently.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help me!
First off, why didn't you just do an OTA update to Lollipop (via settings/about phone) instead of trying to manually do it? It's a lot easier and you could of avoided all of this...
Anyways, I am not sure what exactly happened (maybe it was a bad flash or maybe you screwed up somewhere), but it looks like you've gotten yourself in a real mess.
Did you triple check that you followed the article step by step? Did other people state in the comments about any problems they faced when using the method?
I have tried that method you linked before, and I used Ubuntu, which is best for that method. However, it did not work for me. I remember going on and on with that and ultimately just flat out replaced my logic board when I had a bricked G2.
And I can totally relate to to the twenty unformatted drives, I have been in same exact situation with the endless windows popups when I plug in my phone, but I never really figured out the issue. I remember before I was stuck in fast boot mode, and after awhile I couldn't even get to fast boot.
Can you get into recovery? Is the phone still alive? If so, you can use this to get back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Hope this helps a bit, I have never been in your situation but if you want a real, simple solution to this: I would purchase and replace your logic board (phone's motherboard). It is a definite fix. If you are not comfortable with that, then I would advise to go ahead and do some research about this. Unfortunately, I have no idea where you can get that img (I do not have a D800, but rather a VS980), but I am sure with some Google searches you can find it.
I have bricked a couple phones in the past, and we all learn from our mistakes!
Best of luck!

I couldn't do an OTA update, as it's an AT&T phone, unlocked, and was running on TMobile. (Sorry, could've sword I specified that)
I was very careful that I followed all the steps of that article, to the period, but, again, Murphy's Law. I'm not sure what could have gone wrong.
And currently, I've tried every button combination I know and every one I could find from searching, and the only thing I can get into is the hard reset mode, but I cannot actually do a hard reset (just reboots with the same issue).
I've been unable to find specific d80020y img files after quite a bit of searching, but I will continue, and I've also contacted LG support in the event that by some act of god they can provide me with the files or another fix.

Gotcha. I haven't ran into the issue you have been describing at all before, but I just wanted to try to understand this situation a little better, I wish I could tell you what exactly happened.
As far as your problem, here's what I would do. The phone is still alive correct? Contact LG and send that bad boy in. Tell them you used it for a couple of months and all of a sudden it does not work anymore. I think that would be your best bet. However, do not tell them you modified it or whatever you tried to do with it.
Be aware if you do send it in to LG, make sure you have not tried to open up the phone and screw around with it internally. They will not fix it if that is the case. Also, it can be quite pricey depending on your current condition.
Oh, and LG will not provide you with those files, they are there to help you with any kind of phone issue, but not these kinds of issues.
This my friend is the best advice I can give you! Again, another option would be replacing the logic board, but that is ONLY a last resort.
BTW, you didn't hard brick it so that's a plus
I've not got a warranty, nor do I have the funds currently to have it repaired. That would be my last option.
Also, I'm not sure if this is helpful or relevant, but when I plugged it in to my PC just now, and it "recognized" the whole bunch of drives, I clicked through each one to see if it actually accessed anything. The "drive" it labeled "G:" had a single "image" folder in it, containing a bunch of .b00, .b01, .b02, etc files, and some .mdt files. (See picture)
Is this relevant at all? Could this help me?

Yes, I am sure. I just tried it again, though, to confirm. Held volume up, plugged in USB, and it went to the LG logo screen, showed the same error text in the top left, and went to a black screen.
I am downloading the SRKtool right now, and will try as soon as i have it.
Alrighty, so, progress (?).
I did the procedure with SRKtool, and at the end it told me to unplug it from USB and restart it, So i did that, and it went to the download mode screen, then it gave an error (Regrettably, it went too quick for me to read it), and now it's on the LG logo and has been for maybe 5 minutes, and the notification light is flashing multicolor.
EDIT: YES! I turned it off, since it wasn't doing anything, and i am able to get into download mode! Miracle!
So, is there anything else i need to to, or can i just flash Lollipop to it now, with download mode?

no problem just hit thanks it i helped, once you in KK ill tell you how to go from there.
Wow, it flashed and everything without a hitch. I'm in KK now, and everything seems all good. So how would I go about upgrading to lollipop?
Thought I'd post back to share the conclusion.
Everything's working perfectly now, I flashed Lollipop through the flash tool, worked perfectly, and now I'm rooted, got a proper TWRP recovery set up, Xposed installed, and everything is good. Seems to run smoother on Lollipop too, and I was skeptical about the battery life, but it seems great
