[ROM][Lollipop][Omni 5.1.1] P5wifi (DISCONTINUED) - Galaxy Tab 8.9 Android Development

Hi all, here I wish to continue porting OmniROM from the P4/P4wifi over to our device the P5/P5wifi.
*Please note that this is simply a port of an already built rom. It was not built from source therefore anything that you may find to be broken will more than likely remain broken until it is fixed in the parent ROM.
-Many thanks to the builder of this rom @AAccount. His hard work made this ROM possible. :good:
-Thanks to @jolinnard whose kernel is being used in these ROMs. :good:
*On first boot the keyboard will not be showing. The fix is simple. Go to settings>Language & Input. Tap on Current Keyboard and flip the toggle next to Hardware. The keyboard should now be fine.
Working:
Everything works on the P5 AFAIK
Not working:
SELinux---------Need a recovery that supports it.
To those looking forward to a P5 3G rom then please note that there will not be one any time soon. AAccount has stopped building for the p4 3g so that means we don't have a 3g rom to port anymore. So unless AAccount starts porting for the p4 again there won't be a P5 rom.
Flash Instructions
Wipe data, system, cache, dalvik if coming from another ROM. If ugrading to a newer build then a simple Dalvik and cache wipe will do
Flash the ROM zip
Flash GAPPs (Thanks to @jolinnard)
Flash SuperSU
Reboot and enjoy
Original ROM thread
Credits
@AAccount - for the ROM
@jolinnard - For the kernel
@decatf - for his work on the p4 kernel which is used here that delivers great performance
If you helped out and I missed you in the credits then send me a PM and you will be credited

This port has been discontinued!!

Hey! Maybe some day I will back to Omni. I'm planning to erase my Gtab of Google stuff and enjoy a clean Android experience.

Awesome!! Erased my internal sdcard by accident last week. Luckily I have the same files on my Nexus 9 so I was saved. This port works great for me. Should I even port for the P5? AAccount stopped building for the p4 as of May 23. Reason being that 3G doesn't work but oddly enough it does work on the P5 using our modified KK kernel and your data_on script.

Did you try with advanced wifi configuration? Try not use dhcp to assign wifi. Use a fixed ip. I had the same issue and that was the solution.

I have no such problems. My WiFi connects just fine. Try turning airplane mode on for a moment then turn it back off and try connecting again. Could it be the kernel? I'll p.m you a kernel to try and see if it fixes anything later on. Any logs?

OP has been updated with links to the new build released by AAccount today. According to him there were no major changes, just the usual Omni sync.

thanks for the unexpected gift! unfortunately i have problems with the zip package, it can't be opened/flashed, redownloaded 4-5 times from pc and tablet, same, checked the MD5 and it matches...am i the only one having troubles with it?

Nope same overhere.
Made a backup but transferred it to pc so I've got a problem! TWRP and no flashable zip on the internal sd...
Edit: used the sideload option with ADB and used the omni-5.1.1-20150706-p5wifi-HOMEMADE ROM
Got also problems with the WiFi connection. My network uses 192.168.2.xx range

I'm sorry to hear that. You can use adb to push a zip file to your sdcard for installation.
Use this command
Code:
adb push romname.zip sdcard
Or you could use sideload to install one as well. in twrp go to advanced then select adb sideload and connect your tab to your pc. Open up windows command prompt and type
Code:
adb sideload romname.zip
This should get a rom installed to your tab.

File has been re-uploaded. It opens fine now and should work fine.

tnx for the quick answer. I've been able to sideload your first rom but it has lot of fc when installing or updating the apps from the playstore. Setting cpu to 1.2 had no result.
I will try your new uploaded file tomorrow.

I have absolutely no problems with the ROM. No force closes or anything. Can you try a clean install of the 0716 build and see if it fixes anything?

Just before your re-upload I installed aosp-5.1.1-p5wifi-20150513. (Jollinnard). This ROM runs better than the UltraPlus I had before.
What are the advantages of your ROM over Jollinard's?

There aren't any huge differences but here are a few notable changes
1) Ability to change battery icon
2) Battery color changes based on charge level
3) Pre rooted
4) Performance settings app included
5) Omniswitch recent
And a few others nothing big. IMO I prefer the browser in the omnirom over the aosp browser and the omni keyboard over the Google keyboard in the aosp ROM. But that's personal preference. Try both and pick a side *twix ad*

how i can use this rom for the p5 ?

Edit the updater script and at the top where you see p5wifi simply delete the "WiFi" part so only p5 remains. Save the file put it back into the ROM zip and flash. Or you could simply flash the p5wifi recovery and you'll no longer have to worry about editing the script.
For future ROMs I think I'll remove the assert lines in the updater script so nobody else will have to worry about them.

Updated from previuos ROM (120202) wiping only partition cache and dalvik cache, I don't know what is wrong but ROM was really laggy, USB storage mode didn't work, so I'm backing up to previous version. Maybe should try updating with full factory reset, but it would be to weird.
with full wipe USB mount storage working normally.
flashed this firmware but do not see any changes.

It would be better if i had never done it... Stuck on Huawei flower after installetion. Nevermind, waiting for Aurora updates
Using this rom for more than two days.
No bugs found.
No restarts.
Antutu result with 1ghz 3105
with 1.5 ghz 3948
Wifi working as expected.
haven't found something wrong with sound, actualy could you point me what was wrong with it?
No exceptional battery drain noticed.
I am happy with it! however I am very waiting for kernel 3 for aurora
When the screen turns off, so does wifi for some odd reason. Is it just me or does anyone else have that problem?

I will help.
Ace,
I can help a little. I will load this up and try a couple of modems, etc today but the majority of testing will have to wait until tomorrow. Let me know if that is too late. Thanks for the new toy.:victory:
Update:
Got it to boot easily with standard clears and wipes.
Had to revert back to Lanight 8.5 DD to load a GAPPS package and some modems on my SD card, USB doesn't work for me. It comes up and says "Connected as installer" which my PC doesn't recognize. So, I loaded several modems, a couple of GAPPS packages and reflashed. (BTW, if I select MTP in the USB select option, the PC sees the I897 but can't read the memory)
No advanced recovery options, have to power down and 3 button to recovery (Boo!)
KDH_Next_Gen_GAPPS kills the setup wizard.
gapps-jb-20121117-JOP40C-dmd151 loads OK with a couple of force closes, those can be worked through.
No modems install or are recognized.
Manual APNs do not save.
Lockscreen is a little skewed with the clock being partially obscured on wake.
Checking for storage from settings kills settings.apk
More later.. Thanks Ace, most fun I have had all day.
Play around with it that's why I posted here. Try new things and see if you can get it working. And share the findings here.
I will upload test2 today, hopefully the data, phone and storage issue is fixed.
I tried jl3, jk4 and kg3 modems, but none of them worked. This still is a great start. I see great potential with this one. I'll keep trying and reporting.

Thanks for the tip Dave71670, I will play around more tomorrow but I tried to replace some of the files in the zip and my 7zip or WinRAR couldn't recognize the format of the zipped files. Really weird. I PM'ed Ace on it. I will try more hacking tricks later. I love this kind of stuff.

Downloading the latest CM10 now. I'll replace the .xml and report back.
Test2 is up Let the testing begin! Changelog for Test2 is huge so I prefer full wipe even if coming from test1.
Many things has been fixed from build.prop to storage and ril related framework issues. I hope the changes will take affect with the boot.
Test2 Changelog:
- Huge fix in build.prop
- Almost Everything ril/storage related in Framework has been hacked to work
- Added init.d fixes
- apns-config.xml has been edited
- Changed the modem
- vold.fstab hacked
- using the ril drivers from pawtip source code
- A lot more things has been changed that I don't remember
- Some drivers were edited to put on forced mode to work with the device
On a side note: I saw pawtip and CM10 jumped in to help bring 4.2 AOSP for I9000 and this is something I appreciate with all my heart's content. I don't have the time to test his build but i'm sure he did a decent job and the word is out he fixed many issues. I will look into his build whenever I get more time. You can flash his build after a minor edit in updater-script then flash the appropriate cappy kernel to make things work if you do decide to try it. Enjoy!

Hey Ace, which kernel did you include in your build? I am running aosp with devil and the storage issues are mostly all I'm facing. I think with the correct kernel this issue would be fixed. If you are using stock kernel I will give it a shot.

I'm using Devil3_1.9.1_KLP_cappy_CFS_BLN_CMC_20121119.zip from HERE in test1 and test2 which is the latest for our cappy.
Derteufel said he fixed the mounting points(to make storage work) in his recent release of I9000 1.9.2 but that shouldn't be a problem since I updated Test1 AND Test2 with updated mount points so I don't see the need for 1.9.2 in my build. Everyone still has storage problems with 1.9.2, i'm more interested in pawtip's kernel if he does release it for our devices or I may have to find a way to compile it.
EDIT: Are you saying the data and phone is working for you? If that is the case, can you share how you got it to work?

oh ok, the only place left untouched is service.jar under framework lol I messed around with pretty much everything I known existed or has to do with ril.
Someone in pawtip thread said he changed his dpi to 210 and the storage worked? Did you try it? Does it work on pawtip release? I'm just curious if dpi has anything to do with it... hmmm..

I just tried and as I suspected dpi didn't make any difference. He has storage working out of the box with his kernel so I think that is where the issue lies.

Lost Root
Ace,
I lost root when I installed test2. Alot of other things are definitely fixed though. I will play around a bit and see if I can get root back and do some further testing. Great job again.
Looks like a good start, will try when there are less things that don't work. GL.
Devil 1.9.4 released for I9000, flash it and see if the storage issue is resolved.

[ROM] JokerRom v2.1(Beta) (TouchWiz UI) U8800(not Pro and H) - Android 4.0.4

Lovers Touchwiz will appreciate!)
Worked:
All! Wi-Fi is a very fast and stable.Connect to any type of access point! Works fine with the USB Wi-Fi and soft AP!
Baggs:
1)Some 3D games are not stable, they return. There is a decision problem! Games are stable and fast, but with a sound during video is not visible. Use patch for those who need the stability of 3D, not video!
2)When using Wi-Fi fast sits Batteries. It is advisable to use the Wi-Fi only when necessary (download applications from Play Market and other heavy materyal that does not require a lot of time working Wi-Fi).
Test and report all bugs in this topic! Maybe it's just the consequences of setting new rom. To try to calibrate the battery with recovery.
ROM: http://yadi.sk/d/CHpWwliX3iERm
UDATE:
I fixed it, but there's a problem! If you install my patch, the 3D works fast and stable! Overdriven and hangs up, but the video can not be played! Pavilion equipment video acceleration is not working! You can use the MX video player, including the processing of video with the software codec - video plays fine, but in programs using hardware acceleration, the video will not work! By the way the video camera says, but again, it can only see the MX video player. http://youtu.be/mGzR6kGUFSY
UDATE 2(03.04.2013):
Seems to have found the problem with the battery pack faster because of Wi-Fi. Fix it! Postponed the test.
Wi-Fi energy fix patch: View attachment 1856147 (Unzip the file from the archive and throw with RootExplorer on the way: etc \ firmware \ wlan)
UDATE 3(07.04.2013):
After installing the firmware, without leaving reсavery, set TW UI5.Improves performance UI.

2)Mounts and storage > format data
3)Mounts and storage > format system
4)Mounts and storage > format cache
6)Advanced > Reboot Recovery
7)Install Rom
8)Install patch FixGPUFriz (if you need geme 3d sability->>video not played(use MX player).
Patch
Install from recovery. Before installation is not needed wipeI! But just in case you can do wipe cash and wipe dalvik:
1)View attachment 1848427 - Fixes hang(3d faster,no frized and crashing), video no played.
2)View attachment 1848428 - Returns the old driver but faster(moded me), video played,3d crashing.
I hope i could help!
UDATE 4(29.04.2013):
Phone died after a downgrade to 2.2.2. Development of suspension!
Today I will try to put the latest firmware (JokerRom v2.1 beta)
The changes:
1) Fixed jer battery jumps, when the Wi-Fi enabled. Now the battery sits evenly, but just as quickly! I call this mode superWi-Fi. If it does not fit you, you can activate the normal mode, but at a slower rate with this file in \system\etc\firmware\wlan
2)The lifetime of the device in the mute mode superWii-Fi nearly 600 on the test Antutu. With mode enabled 280-350. Take your pick!
Flash has become more stabilna. Is not overloaded. Removed various types of garbage.
3)Worked on the wi-fi driver for the ICS and JB, but does not see you happy fate. On the note. For Wi-Fi meet these files: librasdioif.ko,libhardware_legacy.so
I was able to run the old Wi-Fi drivers on ICS, but the problem is that there is no connection to the network (DHCP can not obtain an IP address) Statics does not work. But all of the network can see and try to connect! )
If anyone knows how to revive the animal, after the downgrade to 2.2.2, without Riff box, will be grateful for the help! Lowered the official 2.3.5 with standard markings. Now the phone just vibrates when you press the power button. In the bottle and rekaveri does not set. Having tried all the methods described here and 4PDA. Or anything.
Results of the test firmware Antutu - 4819 !!! (min 368 x max 1024 MHz / SmartassV2 / cfg / FixGPUFriz)

Soon lay out the video!
Here's the video. http://youtu.be/kv3W1Xr5db4 Interenet connected to 5 Mbit /s! As can be seen, heard online at full speed through the USB-Wi-Fi with Connectify.
If interisuyut any inquiries on the stability and operation of specific applications, please contact us. Test and answer, as it is. So far everything is working perfectly.
so... no wifi reboots?? and no phone reboots because of the wifi reboots? lol
YES!!!
It is also not lost network signal! Wi-Fi network, and now work simultaneously without interfering with each other!

The fact that I was doing a lot of different changes in the system and can not remember everything. So I have to copy everything from the phone and create a rom of the firmware files. I can do with bakap recovery, but it may harm your imei for installation.
Hypothetically, can i make rom from baсkup?

You can use adb (in the Android Development Tools) to pull the system files from your phone:
Open a Terminal
cd to where you want to put your system files, connect your phone to the computer with usb debugging on (don't mount usb storage). Now do this in the terminal:
adb pull /system system/
This should pull the system files into a new folder called 'system' in the directory you cd to in the beginning.

No, the Imei won't be copied to other phones. The partition imei is in isn't included in cwm backups, only system, boot, data and cache. I that was the case, people with null imei would just have to restore an old backup and it would be there, but that isn't the case at all

I can reproduct this one, seems to me it's an long overdue bug of Google's implementation of MTP, related to media rescan. It happened under many circumstances, see this bug report --> https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37071807
Sadly, Google refuse to acknowledge it as a bug.

I ever had that issue, when i unisntalled google stock contact "Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk" to replace with "zenui dialer and contact"
I guessed your issue it's related with, that your stock contact isnt installed properly
Try to flash these two .apks (Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk) taken from your rom thru trwp or cwm recovery . It's solved my problem.
is there a way i can disable both phone and contacts ?

Yes, if you are coming from other ROM, it's really, truly, absolutely important to WIPE ALL before flashing.

So far not bad. Both my 3G and LTE data are working fine, not sure about calls yet as I haven't tried. I do get those weird artifacts when I rotate the screen, but I've seen that on most of the Nougat 7.1 based ROMs. Nice work with the Kernel. It seems to be VERY customisable in Deathly Adiutor which is great for me. As with all Nougat based ROMs, the audio input latency is the best it's ever been. I would like the ability to enable software keys and to be able to bypass the hardware keys because as you most certainly know they have a strong tendency to interfere with this device (I keep catching them with my hand). Also, the IR blaster doesn't work AT ALL. I would like that to be fixed as Peel Smart Remote is an everyday app for me and I can't use it with this ROM.

I can now say I can only just make a phone call with this ROM. It's echoey and almost unmanageable when it does work, but it doesn't always work (no sound, normally causes the phone to lock up and force reset upon hanging up). I really want a non-stock ROM that works, preferably Android Nougat 7.1.2 but everyone seems to get the half finished, get fed up and leave us in the dark, and then finally after 6 months mark it as discontinued (cough cough LiquidDeath). I hope you don't do that because this ROM is promising.
Edit: The locking up may have been my fault for overclocking too high.
