AT&T S5 Flashfire? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Used muniz_ri's process to upgrade to 5.0 root via flashfire, then successfully mod twi5ted lollipop v7 (Thanks to both!!) If/when I want to go back to stock rooted 5.0 can I simply follow muniz_ri's process again with no issues? Thanks!

Galaxy s5 g900v, version 5.0 are there any rooting methods?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 version G900V,
Android version 5.0
are there any rooting methods available for this phone yet?? My phone does not have lollypop
I tried the towelroot.com and I was able to download tr.apk but my phone won't let me click the install button.................Does this mean my phone is unrootable????
I've been working on this for a few months! ( I'm just slow and wanted to be sure) I successfully rooted the g900v last night. What build/kernel are you? On 5.0 its as simple as flashing 4.4.4, and THEN ncg kernel, which no matter what will be done before towelroot will work. My g900v was on 5.0 so my first step was to flash 4.4.4 (NK2) on top of it just to start my process.
Don't forget once you are done with rooting with towelroot and after you install SU, flash your kernel back to what it originally was. That way it stops acting so wonky. Ex. I had to flash nk2 kernel back to mine.
Look up Root g900v on ncg
Hope that helps!

Question on rooting 5.1.1

Hi. I have a couple of questions on rooting my Note 4.
I'm running unrooted stock 5.1.1 on my SaskTel (Canadian) 910W8.
What are my steps to rooting my device currently? I see a lot of talk about using Odin to put the Bell firmware on, installing TWRP through Odin, installing SuperSU and installing a custom kernel but those instructions seem to imply I'm not currently on 5.1.1 or I'm already running a rooted 5.0.1 or earlier device.
Is there no easy chainfire type of method?
I just basically want to run stock rooted 5.1.1 on my device.
Thanks.

Rooting from KK or LP, does it matter?

Hello, my S5 is currently stock unrooted on KK 4.4.4 ANK7 and lately I've been thinking on rooting. However I have a concern if it matter whether you root from Kitkat or Lollipop? Meaning are there any differences that affect rooting depending on what version of Android you're coming from? If I take the LP ota update and then root, would I be able to flash KK roms or just LP roms?
Never, under any circumstances, take an OTA update. Once you take an upgrade to Lollipop, you're stuck with it forever. If you instead root KK and flash a safe Lollipop ROM that doesn't update the bootloader past BOD5, you can still downgrade to KK easily.
It's easier to stick with what you have, root it, and then flash a rooted Lollipop ROM. Lollipop is now rootable, but the root process is a little hit-or-miss. Rooting KK is painless.
I had success using this KK root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
CAUTION: The BOD5 bootloader is the last one that will allow you to downgrade back to KK. If you ever flash anything that has a BOE1, BOG5, or BOK3 bootloader, you can never go back.
You won't use these for the KK root process, but you'll need them later so save them: you want to ONLY flash these latest safe kernels and/or firmwares by jrkruse: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64744448&postcount=2

[Q] SM G900V Verizon S5 upgrade to 6.0.1 and keep root

I have a root Verizon S5 running 5.0 stock. I would like to upgrade to the new 6.0.1 and keep root. I've tried searching with no real success. Can I upgrade to 6.0.1 and keep root?
fyi - I disabled OTA updates, I think I froze or renamed the process.
If I can't use the stock ROM and have root, is there a 6.0.1 ROM the collective would recommend?

Click to collapse
Check Verizon section, can root and unlock the BL.

Rooting sm-s975l

Sm-s975l is what i have and it's running on 4.2 jellybean can i 1. upgrade it to 5.0.1 lollipop 2.how do i do do and 3. Will the oneclickroot method from AndroidRoot work
1. Yes.
2. Go to about phone, there should be a software update section and you should have the update available for download.
Or do it with Odin.
3. Once you update to lollipop, you better use Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root rooting method.
