[TOOL] [May 1] One-Click Backup & Restore EFS on OnePlus One - ONE General

Hey guys just made this for one and all !
Backup & Restore EFS on your OnePlus One through ADB!
No TWRP Recovery needed!
UPDATED : MAY 1, 2018
YOUR PHONE MUST BE ROOTED
To Backup,
First you need to enable USB Debigging mode by checking Settings -> Developer Options -> USB Debugging. If Developer Options is not found, go to Settings -> About Phone and tap the build number rapidly 6-7 times till a toast comes up saying 'You're now a developer' (or something like 'Developer Options is enabled'). Go back. Voila! You see 'Developer Options' above About Phone in settings. - Thanks to @Heisenberg for notifying!
Just download the attachment, extract it to a folder, connect your phone to PC through ADB, double click on 'BACKUP EFS.bat'. When it says 'Press any key...' just press any key on your keyboard! You'll see 'modemst1.bin' & 'modemst2.bin' files in the same folder where you extracted the ZIP, make more copies and backup of it! That's your EFS!
DONE!
To Restore,
Connect your phone to PC through ADB, place your 'modemst1.bin' & 'modemst2.bin' in the folder where you extracted the attachment (it should be there if you never moved it after backing up) and double click on 'RESTORE EFS.bat'.
DONE!
Hope this helps someone

Great idea. You might want to mention that you need to go into Settings/Developer Options and enable usb/adb debugging first, and to enable Developer Options you need to go into Settings/About Phone and click on Build Number seven or eight times. Also, the screen must be on and phone unlocked for adb to work.

Hey there, do you have any idea if this would work for a secondary from running via multirom? My primary rom COS12 is fine, but my secondary rom (CM11S) is showing with an unknown IMEI and baseband and has no wifi/signal etc. I have tried flashing the CM11s modem again on the primary rom but no luck.

Did you try it?

Never tried dual booting ROMs... (you're talking about that right?). See, as far as the mmc blocks for EFS partition are same, backup and restore should work. Find out what block contains EFS (if it's different for different ROMs while dual booting) and edit my code in BACKUP EFS.bat and RESTORE EFS.bat . You'll figure out it's easy!

Thanks for replying, I ended up trying a good old dirty flash and it seems to have restored the secondary rom's baseband and IMEI so its seems to have fixed it. I flashed another ROM (liquid smooth 4.4.4) via multirom and its working as well, so everything seems to be back to normal.

Does this backup everything on the phone ? Including home screen widgets, apps, images, WiFi settings etc ?

You serious? Please do your homework and learn what an EFS partition is.

Tried to backup my EFS partition using this tool but my computer just hangs at: "Waiting for OnePlus One..."
Any idea how to correct this?

@Paresh Kalinani, One-Click or Double Click
nice job automating things for lazy ones thanks

Thanks a lot bro

I have 4 questions:
Whats the difference between your toolkit and others like "bacon root toolkit" ?
Will the efs backup still work, when i unlock the bootloader (wipes data)
Is this open source?
Does it matter what firmware your phone is?

I have 4 answers:
Dunno about bacon root toolkit, but from the name I guess it would be a toolkit for rooting, unlocking boot loader, flashing ROMs/Kernels, etc. (MAYBE efs backup too).
Yes it will work even if you unlock the boot loader. Why would you backup when you're not unlocking it!
Yes this is open source.
It doesn't matter on which firmware the phone is.

I meant after unlocking the bootloader which wipes all data, will the backup still be able to restore my phone data. this tool should be able to backup everything (contacts, settings, messages, apps and savefiles, etc...) and doesn't need to be rooted first right?

Unfortunately not. This tool will only backup and restore the EFS files from your phone. This tool is very useful if you ever lost your imei.....but only if you used it to back it up before you lost your imei.

SGS3 - IMEI corruption :(

Hello everyone,
I am trying to fix my IMEI on SGS3 but without success. I cannot select RMNET+DM+MODEM in hidden menu (*#7284#). On UART there is only (MODEM, PDA) and USB (MODEM, PDA).
I've even tried SGS3-Exploiter-GeeK.exe but when I select this mode nothing happend, it just goes back to MTB+ADB.

Are you using International or US Galaxy S3 ?
Methods using Diag mode and software like SGS3-Exploiter-GeeK or QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tools) are made to work ONLY with the United States variant of Galaxy S3 (based on Qualcomm SoC).
Now, I don't know software to fix International SGS3 without EFS folder backup (Sorry :crying: ) when nv_data.bin and .nv_data.bak are broken.

I had this problem on my S£ (international) a while back. It happened after flashing cm10, I had a generic IMEI code. I f'd around with it a bit using root explorer and the EFS folder and the .bak files but this did not work.
I tried ktools etc. nothing seemed to work..
oddly enough, i got it back by flashing back to the stock ics rom via Odin, since then my IMEI has been fine after flashing JB roms.
worth a try!
@lozfromcorby : I just saying they have not software to do that now on I9300. But I'm agree with you ! Sometimes, we can recover wrong IMEI when flahsing stock ROM.
Yep it's international ((
Ok I will try to flash stock rom again :/ I will post result here....

I have seen that the Z3X box can fix all Samsung Galaxy devices excepted SGS3 !
I think you need send your phone to repair center.
But before, you can try this :
Save remaining files contain on your EFS folder. For that, use EFS Tool Pro for example :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
Try this tutorial (with a full official stock firmware/kernel | Flash it with ODIN before trying repair) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
Caution : DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.
If it doesn't work, you must :
- reset binary counter (with Chainfire tool : Triangleaway)
- perform total wipe data / wipe cache (from recovery mode)
- flash the latest stock firmware corresponding to your region
- verify the phone status : must be "Normal" and not "Modify".
Device is working... but no network thats why ((

I have a temporary solution for you. if you still have the backup of the the EFS folder in your internal or external sd card than follow the following steps,
1. copy ALL the files from the EFS BACKUP FOLDER.
2. go to the root of your your phone with root explorer of ES file explorer and find the folder EFS. it should be with all the system folders like acct, config, data, dev, efs, etc so on and on.
3. now paste all the copied files in to EFS folder. tap on REPLACE THE FILES if ASKED...
4. close the app. and go to the home screen and wait for few seconds.
if your simcard have pin than it will ask the pin after few seconds and if it doesnt have any pin than it will just get the network.
good things is you have your IMEI number restored and can use the phone like regularly. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. WITH NETWORK.
bad thing is NEVER LET YOUR PHONE SWITCH OFF. If it will switch off than you will have to follow all the steps again... annoying but works... let me know the progress buddy... best of luck...
Your other option is to to flash the stock rom but not let it finish. You will get a loop screen. Then just send it off for repair saying it doesn't turn on.. It will be diagnosed as a broken bootloader and fixed and the imei number will be back to the original. This happened with my old s1

No, I don't have a backup of the EFS folder I will try to send EFS folder to Spocky12 and hope that he can recover information...

Wanted to install Cyanogemmod.
Seemed to go ok, everything went well but the s-pen wasnt responsive at all, so i rebooted phone.
S-pen became responsive but i lost connectivity and my phone can no longer make phone calls or send text messages.
It keeps saying "Searching for service", i have reinstalled Cyanogenmod again but still same problem.
I dont know what to do.

I bet you have not tried to flash a compatible custom kernel.
If your phone is an N9005 then flash this kernel below:
http://whatever.host-base.de/kernel/hlte/custom-n3-clean-0.98-eur.zip
If all else fails, why not flash a non-experimental Kitkat 4.4.2
TW based full feature custom rom. (There are so many good ones)
Good luck!

HI, in dialer if you wite this code *#06# have you the same IMEI write behind your battery ?
have you make backup before ?
I experienced the exact same problem.
1. settings > about phone > status
Do you still have an IMEI listed? If yes, we must first backup your EFS, FSG, FSC partitions. Use EFSBackup tool from this thread and save backup somewhere securely.
2. Flash back to stock
If you were still on 4.3 flash 4.3 in order to keep the unlocked bootloader. Else flash 4.4 stock. Only flash the correct firmware from this list. You can figure out which device you have by using the Device Info feature of EFSBackup
This fixed the problem for me. Do not flash anything BEFORE making a backup of EFS, FSC, and FSC partitions. If you lose those you lose your IMEI, in that case it's pretty much finished.
Report back here with progress.

OK I understand you still have IMEI?
Do not flash anything at the moment. We MUST first backup efs, fsc, and fsg blocks.
If the phone was only on 4.3 stock when you bought and and you have only flashed CM on it the bootloader is still 4.3
The bootloader is only upgraded when you flash 4.4 kitkat STOCK ROM. CM does not touch your bootloader.
What is the problem with EFSBackup? Did you enable root access for apps AND adb in the developer options menu?
I say again do not flash anything before we can get these backups. We can still fix the phone ATM.
Thankyou for trying to help me.

Assuming you have CM running do this:
Settings > About Phone > Build Number.
Tap the Build Number section 7 times in a row. A small message will pop up that says "You are now a developer".
Return to the settings menu. You will now see there's a new menu at the bottom called "Developer options". Enter that menu and scroll down to the section "DEBUGGING". Tap on "USB debugging" to enable it. A small window will pop up that asks you again if you want to enable debugging. Tap "OK".
If the phone was not yet connected with a USB cable to your computer do that now. After a few seconds a window will appear that display your computers authentication ID. It will ask you to allow access for that computer ID. Check the box that says something like "Do not ask again for this computer" and then tap "Allow" or "OK" (can't remember what it says).
Now scroll up a little bit in the Developer options menu until you see "Root access". It should currently say only "Apps". Tap the menu and select "Apps and ADB" from the popup.
When all that is done start EFSBackup again. It auto-detects if you did everything correctly as written here. Report back here with your progress.
Thankyou for helping me, i got through it, but now in EFS Professional i get this error

Don't know what happened with your cell dude ....
Try asking a local repairer.
Got a few questions, will be getting my 816 this weekend....
Mine will be the Malaysian variant, which is a single sim version with sense 6 (just checked with the display unit at the telco show room here).
1. Will TWRP be compatible with sense 6? I read so far most of the recovery images has been tested with sense 5.5.
2. After unlocking the bootloader, is it possible to relock the bootloader for warranty purposes?
3. Can this dual sim rom be used with single sim device? I would like to get a backup rom in case anything goes wrong, unless htc has an application similar to Sony's SEUS.
Thanks for your time!:fingers-crossed:

Isn't IMEI used for phone identification along with MEID? If thats blank, would it be an issue on Verizons side?

Hi
I don't know if you've fixed your issue with your g900v or not, but i have the same problem and the same phone and obviously the same symptoms ...
As far as I've tried, nothing worked not ODIN flashing ROMs, or QPST to write IMEI or EFS professtiona ADB .... etc.
What I've come to know is this :
1- keep the phone in a safe place till next months reveal a solution through developers here or elsewhere.
2- Flash the Original Samsung Verizon Rom ( Full Package with efs and bootloader mounts and all partitions " Clean Flash" ) which costs about 100$ .
3- Change the board for a (200$) new one .
So, I would try to pay the 100$ and flash the original ROM, and comeback to tell if it solved the Problem.
I wish if you share any different approach or feedback . I would love to hear it .
Bye
It could possibly be that your EFS folder is damaged. This is where your IMEI and Baseband info is stored. If that's the case for your device, these steps should work. I've done this on two phones (one being an S5) and it fixed this problem.
I'm assuming that you're rooted. If not then you'll need to root your device first. And you need to have debugging enabled. What this does is backups the files from the EFS folder, repairs the partition tables, then restores the files to the repaired folder.
1. Connect the phone to your computer. (Windows)
2. Download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v2h5dzisjd0rgj5/EFS_Professional_2.1.73_Release.zip?dl=0
3. Extract and run the program
4. Click EFS Professional... It will open a window showing that it found your phone
5. Click on the Backup Tab and make sure all of the partitions are checked, and your Device Filter is recognized
6. Hit the Backup button to backup the EFS folder
7. After that's done, click the Restore button and it will restore your files to the EFS folder.
I hope this helps you.
There used to be a tool for the Note 2 I believe, maybe S4, that would let you re-write your EFS if it accidentally got erased. Not a backup/restore deal, but a tool to key in your IMEI and it would write it to the phone. Maybe research that tool for a fix?

Was it a tool specifically for the Note 2, or multiple Samsung devices, or maybe a universal program like CDMA Workshop? I love that program. It's what I use when it comes to actually entirely rewriting files like this. Most of the time a full rewrite isn't needed though if the EFS folder has just been damaged. Which "damaged" is totally the wrong word here, but that's what it's called for some reason. I really don't even know how it happens, but I do know when it does, it usually just jumbles and/or fragments the info in the folder and needs to be put back in it's correct order. Kind of like defragging in Windows. Just a tool like you're talking about would definitely be cool for me to have though. I shall start my quest to find it. Lol
Please some help
Any luck yet ???
Got the same issue here, and none of the threads here worked .
Same problem
Hello,
I have the exact same problem. I bought the phone here in Mexico, and the phone came with erased EFS folder. Phone restarts automatically when screen turns off. When I'm using the phone, it works just fine, but some seconds after screen goes off, phone restarts automatically. EFS folder is messed up, I've tried out a lot EFS restoring tools with no luck.
I tried QPST but it does not detect the phone, only appears "?" and "No phone" blinking. The same happens with DFS Tool.
I will try to look for that tool joshw0000 talks about.
I hope we can find out a solution for this excellent phone.
Bye.
Hey ...
I did a factory reset and cache wipe, and now the phone stopped restarting when the screen goes off, but still got the "Unknown" issues.
But at least I got rid of the annoying restarts.
570 ppl read this and still no answer, I got to admit ... it's tough.

Bricked Device

i think i have messed up big this tym . my phone is bricked .
there is no recovery and the download mode even though its there its not installing anything.
the device is not appearing as qhsusb_bulk in linux so i cant access partion it just shows lge composite device.
it just boots up i get a black screen and the notification led starts to blink all colors.
i think the only way is if somehow i can force to install through the unresponsive download mode which was working before i rooted the phone with ioroot. or somehow access the phones partitions via linux even though it shows lge composite device

Good to know a bit more info on the case. So the computer is not recognizing the phone as an adb device at all?.. (I've never used Linux OS when modding my phone so my knowledge in that department is limited and I hope someone else will be able to help you there.) .. Else I would see if a windows computer would recognize the phone as an adb device.

Sorry for not being able to help you... but i suggest you to keep all your problems in 1 thread instead of createting several threads for your issue. It gets confusing to follow all your threads and most likely harder to help you as you haven't gathered all information and status on your proceedings in one and same place.
I'm crossing my fingers hoping that someone will be able to help you or that you'll find a solution. As for your screen being cracked makes it hard to operate. Do you have a bluetooth mouse? or an otg cable where you can connect a mouse? that way you'll be able to access the whole screen.

just an idea but not sure if it will work. can you use some voice control app to make it dial the numbers you want.. like google now? "Call...".. if you understand what i mean... It's hard, unless you install a rom that allows you to rotate the screen uppside down which is also an option. I remember i cracked my nexus 4 screen. I had it running slimkat rom and could rotate the screen uppside down. But not sure you'll be able to access the hidden menu on custom rom though(?).. Do you have any efs backup anywhere?

reverting to complete stock has in many cases helped retrive imei but there is not guarantee. what you could try is to make a backup of your current rom, so that you have the old and a new back up and then restore the old and see if it worked. if not go back to the new. I guess the best would be to try to go back to complete stock.

Ah ok. Had you used ioroot, it would have takes a backup of your efs partition. Well we do not promote people to use each other's efs backups as it's illegal.
