FW Update released - G4 General

Edit:
SORRY JUST REALIZED OTHERS ALREADY GOT IT DELETE OR WHATEVER I AM SORRY.
So I checked for updates and it showed me that V10b-JUN-11-2015 is available. Says something about a Google Patch and improving usability. Anyone else got it or knows what exactly it does? Am downloading atm, it is avout 180MB.

So... u r using H815T model? And what are the improvements u have noticed so far?
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

If you have the H815 you might as well update as with the official unlocked bootloader you do not have to worry about losing Root Access.
I for one have the US991 though, so I refuse to do any updates that *could* patch whatever *might* be in my launch firmware that could be used as an exploit.

I did update. Didn't notice anything. Doesn't affect touc issue...

Is you phone a uk Model? Is so any chance of a download link from LG?

Just got the update on verizon g4

I'm getting one now on Verizon as well

Verizon also. It's pending due to not connected to Wi-Fi...

Getting the 160MB update for the Verizon model claiming it is security updates.
The only options for receiving this update was Install Now or Install Later and you can set a time for when to install it later.

and my software still says modified after the update.

Well I updated. H815T model. And although I don't see any major improvements, but I probably notice a bit more fluidity here & there as well as tad better touch response. But point to b noted, my phone was already optimized by all those settings changes & app blocking that guys have advised for better experience with G4.

New Update August 10th - Stagefright Patch

http://www.androidcentral.com/alcatel-onetouch-idol-3-get-stagefright-fix-beginning-august-10
Seems the Idol 3 is receiving the Stagefright patch! I'm surprised Alcatel is actually keeping up with this phone and releasing needed updates. Now if only we could get Android 5.1 or even Android M.
For those who have rooted, I'm sure you will have to un-root in order to get this via OTA or follow famewolf's thread here.
Cool 5.1.1 would be nice as well

Once someone has updated if you are not rooted I'd gladly post the firmware to the thread mentioned.
I wonder if it's too much to hope for a fix to the issues dialing out via Google Voice?

There are 3 different 6045i firmwares in the stock image thread. You could have backed up one at a time till you got one that worked with google voice and didn't have other issues.
But wouldn't that negate the positive results of the most recent update (improved DTTW, etc.)?

Why would you be surprised? It is stock Android with no carrier certification required. Just patch and go...

Depends on your priorities...I for one have no problem using hangout dialer for the calls I want to make over data which still works fine.
if they could fix the lags too
i was wondering, if we can't get ota update is it still possible to use the file update while being rooted?
hope this don't cause lags.. had the opposite result the last time I've updated..it was a mess
Well, I also use Hangouts Dialer and agree it's not a huge imposition. Still, no other handset I've ever used has had this bug, and I'd like the option of using the native dialer with GV. Regards from New Orleans...A.

Off topic. But how do you like or compare to the blu life one 2015?
I like the Blu Life One LTE quite a bit. Bought it for $99 off Amazon during a pre-order promotion, and have been using out to compare various carriers alongside my Idol 3. Considering that it has only 1 gig of RAM, it's remarkably smooth. Very bright 720p display, good battery life. A paltry 8g of onboard storage, but I'm an app minimalist, and it does take an optional SD card. Dual SIM capability which has come in handy, though you must choose between SD card or SIM 2.
The Idol 3 is considerably more powerful (600-class Snapdragon versus 400; 2 gigs of RAM, bigger, full HD display, etc.). Covers more LTE bands, including Band 12, which is important for T-Mobile users like myself. Substantially better speakers.
I'm somewhat of a phone hobbyist, and have been playing with a number of inexpensive handsets lately (these two and a Lumia 640 -- amazing phone for $100 or less). I've gained new respect for this class of handset. See little or no need to pay flagship prices. But I don't game, so don't tax a CPU as some other users might.
I've been using an HTC One M7 on Verizon, but an going to move to T-Mobile. Coverage is solid here in New Orleans, and for my family (four of us) it's vastly less expensive, with vastly more data.

Hi All --
Wanted to let you guys know a new software update for IDOL 3 users will be released on or around August 10. This update will initially be available to IDOL 3 customers in the U.S. and will address fixes for Google Voice and SMS time stamp issues experienced by some users, as well as a Google security patch for the Stagefright vulnerability. For IDOL 3 customers in Canada, we are working with our carrier partners and hope to have an availability update for this very shortly.

Posted a thread that should be useful to the folks who plan to revert to stock to install the update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ido...e-custom-update-zips-to-t3175068?goto=newpost
I plan to give it a try and if it works I'll TRY to capture the 6045i update url as I did the previous updates..(I use a transparent squid proxy that all devices in my house go through to get to the internet. It allows me to intercept the url)..if I can get the update.zip downloaded I will make it available and perhaps some users will be able to sideload the update with less hassle.

That would be awesome. I'm in Canada and don't want to have to wait for my carrier to 'Ok' an update for a major security issue like this.
If that could be done for 6045k since I saw one user on this forum from Portugal with K model and 01003 update..
Meaning the update is pushed different from region to region..

Once someone who is un-rooted receives notification of this update, would you please post here letting us know the update has started to roll out? I don't think rooted users will get a notification of the update since we can't even check for one without getting a notification of being rooted.

So if I unroot to get this update, am I even going to be able to reroot?
I was really hoping I wouldn't have to mess around with anything more on this phone until CM is out for it.

Pretty sure you will still be able to re-root.
I can confirm that using the Full Unroot method via SuperSU works on this phone. I just ran it out of curiosity and followed the steps and SuperSU is gone from the app drawer and I am able to check for updates. See screenshots:

I haven't found a tutorial on downgrading to 5.1.1 from 6.0.1. Is there a safe way to do it?

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

I'm guessing its just a June security patch.
I'm impressed Verizon is actually trying to keep up with the security updates on this device. BUT, i dont think they have a choice because this device is probably more used then the Note5 .

Seems to have fixed some lag, heat , and battery drain issues I was having. Auto brightness is still borked. Still have to turn the brightness down manually in a dark room, and up to max outside.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of Google Fi. Which phone are you going to go with? I've thought about replacing my Note 4 DE with the Moto X Pure when they run it on sale again (was $319 a few days ago). But the Droid Z Force also looks nice.

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.

Anyone get the NEW NOV 10 OTA UPDATE?

T-Mobile user here. Wondering if its safe to update. Don't want my root blocked. Looks like they may have improved camera auto detection.

It is probably best you don't take it if you have a locked bootloader. Unless you have one of the issues mentioned you run the risk of losing compatibility if they crack the bootloader or get the phone rooted because they will work on the older firmware first.
As always, flash at your own risk.

Well this is a first then. Never have we (in canada) ever gotten an ota before anyone else. Usually we're 6 months after vzw if at all!
I can't even check. When I open update center it skips directly to app updates. I don't even get an option to check software. I unfroze everything I had frozen but it stays the same. Don't know what's up with that.

Maybe, but the update doesn't get rolled out to everyone at the same time. It's a phased release. Supposedly everyone will have it by the end of the month.
Nougat arrived!!!
My fiance and I received Android N today. It is 7.0 of course. So far we like it. Runs smooth and looks different. A lot more options now. Battery seems fine for us as well. I manually checked for update and it was available and same for my fiance.

[Sprint] No update yet?

Per the title, it seems that we Sprint U11'ers may be off the list for the latest update from the original 1.03. Can anyone differ based on receiving it?
We Sprint users are usually a little behind the US Unlocked version when it comes to upgrades. They will come, just need to be patient. When they do become available the Sprint forum is always on top of it.
