Yes, it's the same as KitKat. Use the search feature.

I searched for the kitkat root but couldn't find it. New to this site so still learning how to navigate. I used cf auto root. Completed the process. Downloaded the root checker from play store. It said it was rooted but when I open WiFi tether it said not rooted. Is this due to the new 5.0.1.? Phone came with it on it. Thanx.

Go into SuperSU (if you don't have it download it from the Play Store) and hit menu, then settings, then change SU Access from Prompt to Grant.

OK thank you. I had to update it. Been reading. I have sph-l720t 5.0.1 od2. No tether created yet for this update.

I am also trying to do mine which is on 5.0.1. Did u use same cf auto root for 4.4.2 Also did u use odin v3.10 or 3.07 that came bundled with 4.4.2 cf root. thanks

I used cf auto root on Odin 3.10. 3.7 worked as well. Root worked. Also got wifi tether router to work. The root program was 4.4.4. Found it on a trend on this site.

Flash a custom recovery with ODIN then flash the SuperSU zip or a rooted ROM in recovery.

I flashed twrp using Odin then pulled my battery and unplugged my phone reinstalled my battery booted into recovery installed supersu from there and was rooted! Easy as that...

[Q] Return to stock rom issues

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 and have installed various custom roms on it. A couple of days ago I used odin to reinstall the stock rom(4.2.2) package for my phone which worked fine and I then rooted using cf auto-root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803. This also worked fine and I had root access. I tried to do an OTA update and received a message saying that I couldn't receive updates on a custom rom. So I reinstalled the custom rom without root after formatting the data and cache and didn't reroot and still received the same error message(custom rom). Since then i've tried install CWM recovery to format /system, /data, /cache, dalvik cache e.g. After this I reinstalled the stock rom and apparently it is still custom. Need help to make the status official again.
Sorry for the really long explanation :/ Please help

Follow the link and flash the firmware using Odin
Ok, I managed to do it using these steps:
1.Install stock firmware(4.2.2)
2. Using cf-autoroot, root your device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
3. After your device is rooted install triangle away https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway&hl=en
4. Read all of the instructions carefully and reset your status and flash count.
5. When the triangle away bootloader thing asks you to either reboot or reboot to bootloader select reboot.
6. Now factory reset your phone again from the accounts menu in the settings.
7. After that has finished you should have an official status and be able to recieve OTA's.
NOTE: When I did this process I still managed to keep the phone rooted.
This was testing on an i9505, have no idea whether this is working on other models.

You can try flashing cwm recovery. If you encounter problems just flash the stock firmware.

you can try flashing the recovery. its just a recovery not like kernel you need to have the specific kernel for your phone variant but if you're afraid of bricking your phone then I suggest not to flash and wait for others opinion.

Typically these updates do remove root. Best to wait until someone has a root method figured out for the new update.

I just updated via the OTA method on AT&T. Rebooted twice. I still have root (verified by Root Checker). Here's my About page:
Here's the root checker pic:
I now have OC2. Update OTA with confidence!
I originally rooted OC1 (Lollipop) by following the Root/OC1 method.
EDIT: I just checked for stagefright vulnerability (via Stagefright detector). It reports that my device is NOT VULNERABLE. Nice.
I took the chance because this site has helped me in sooo many ways. It's the least I could do. Thanks everyone.
I'm rooted and my update failed at 26%

Update failed for me at 25% too. I'm rooted OC1.
Does this update do more than just fix the stagefright exploit?
If not, then kmokhtar already posted a flashable update fix for stagefright which works great.
Could you post a link to that? I have been unable to find it via xda search, google search, browsing in note 3 forums...
Why is this 'update' 5.0? I could have sworn it was just up to 5.1.1

Those like me who have installed modded apps like S6 and have mixed in deodexed files, the OTA will fail. the OTA installer MD5 checks the system files and if any fail it will abort the Update. Any deodexed system files will also abort the Update
How to updated to OC2 if your OTA failed
1. Download and unzip and copy this Folder to OC1 stock root backup to your TWRP backup folder,
\TWRP\BACKUPS\0b70b440\N900A_OC1_Lollipop_Stock_Rooted_Backup
2. Copy OC1 kernel recovery installer to your sdcard SM-N900A_N900AUCUEOC1_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable.zip
*** You can also go ahead and copy Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03[1].apk and NC2 Flasher to your sdcard ***
3 Download the OC2 OTA 2400258.cfg
rename the 2400258.cfg OC2 to 2400258.zip and copy to your sdcard
4 Install the OC1 backup,
N900A_OC1_Lollipop_Stock_Rooted_Backup.zip
5. Install OC1 Kernel
SM-N900A_N900AUCUEOC1_KERNEL_Recovery-Flashable.zip
6. (I did a factory wipe , but Warning you will loose UserData settings and Apps you installed) You might try without but if you had a custom SystemUI and Touchwiz as I did it might FC because you have setting in Userdata pertaining to the Custom apps that you will over write with the OC1 backup.
7. Select Reboot and then select Recovery to boot to stock recovery and install as a update from external storage. mine installed with no issues.
8. To get safe strap back working Download and copy Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03[1].apk to sdcard (if you have not done yet)
9. Download and copy NC2 Flasher by benwaffle
10. Install Safestrap-HLTEATT-NC2-3.75-B03, run app and install recovery ( do not press reboot to recovery, it will only take you to stock recovery)
11. Install NC2 Flasher app and then use it to boot to recovery.
12. Do a backup of your new OC2
Now you can customized and do what you want

Root not working. Keep asking to update binaries

My Nexus 4 is on stock 5.1.1 (unlocked bootloader).
Yesterday, I though it's time to root it.
Installed latest version of TWRP using (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img).
Then I downloaded Superuser (koush) from here and flashed it.
Now I have the superuser app but it doesn't work. It keeps asking me to update binaries and when I hit "Recovery Install" nothing happens.
How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance

But how do I uninstall Superuser?
It's a system app. That would require a root explorer to remove but then again, my root doesn’t work

Then just flash SuperSu and then remove the other one. You will get notification from SuperSu that this app (superuser) may cause conflict with this or something like that but just ignore that and install( in case you don't flash zip in recovery wich i recommend)

After flashing twrp dont let the device reboot. The stock recover overwrites twrp. In odin uncheck reboot then after the twrp install you have to boot to recovery Vol+ home and power..

I freeze my apps using Titanium Backup, and I have never activated them before an update
Hi everyone, I installed this and issue arised, my system settings went to default rather than my customized settings.
But started to realize that my quick charge isn't working anymore (at least doesn't show a notification saying the fast charge is connected) and also no more vibrations for my touch light keys (back and switching apps buttons) when I touch them.
Pretty annoying, anyone has these issues and know how to fix these? Thanks
