Need advice on best working (stable) rom. Please. - Nexus Q Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, went to fire up my Q & nothing works. It's been a couple years.
I'm looking to get as much functionality out of get as possible. Hoping I can use it as a Pandora/podcast player & amp for speakers, art a minimum. Would love to be able to cast video as well.
When I search the threads for the word Stable nothing referring to a ROM comes up.
What ROM do you recommend for as stable service as possible?
Any good tutorial for rooting the Q or ?
Thanks all

I just use the unofficial steelhead CM11.0 as posted by hharte here.
I use it with allcast to play music in my workshop. It looks awesome with two small (but good speakers).

[Q] Is Flash 10.1 possible on HTC Hero?

Sorry if the answer is obvious but I could nt find a definitive answer anywhere.
So is full flash experience with adobe 10.1 possible on HTC HERO. I have Darchdroid 2.8 running on mine.
thx
guys... theres like 15 other threads asking the same thing, and multiple posts within rom threads..
If you want flash in any kinda way (lite) you need to be running a sense_ui rom
For example both zenheroFX and zenEXP have flash.
Darchdroid, aosp and cm roms will not be able to run it.
Thanks for pointing that out. Really liked DD2.8 otherwise.
what are you guys doing that makes you want/need flash on a phone with a tiny screen? I really am curious, I cannot think of anything that I would want to do on a phone that requires flash. Are you trying to play face book flash games or something? Hulu could maybe be a use, but flash video barely works on an Atom running anything but windows, so it sure as hell isn't going to work on an ARM running android...
I am interested in some news websites that show live feed of tv channel. went to sprint's store and evo played it really well.
so flash video.... the evo is a much faster phone, also htc put a lot of effort into the version of flash that's on there.

ROMs that support Netflix?

I'm wondering which ROMs actually work with Netflix. I've seen that CM7 does.
I used Android Revolution 5.1.x (currently .7) and have had no luck. I get the audio but only a blank screen.
Tried all three Netflix APK's and have updated Flash.
I'm assuming Android Revolution will not be resolving this for some time as its team have not answered thread comments on the subject. No big deal, everyone has their own designs in ROM's.
But, what other ROM's have proven workable with Netflix?
Any ROM based on CM 7 build #76 and on will allow you to play Netflix.
I'm not a CM7 fan. But, I've read that. Anyone know of others?
I think it would be helpful for people to know what's out there that works compatibility wise so they can read up on those exact ROMs before flashing.
It's crazy to try and flash/test every one.

I beg to differ
Also have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
I've been watching that. So far, CM7 and the stock ROM have been confirmed to work and others haven't mentioned their ROM when they mention failures for Inspire.
So still left wondering which work and which don't.
Where did you see that the stock rom was working? I am running the stock rom with the gingerbread update, and all I get is audio and the white screen of frustration.

Procedure & Files for upgrading Mad Catz Mojo

Due to the recent price drop for the MCM there has been some renewed interest on fb in the MCM. It took many hours to collect the files and figure out how to get it going right so to save others some time I put an instruction PDF together along with all the files you need.
It's located in a public google drive folder located at:

Thnx Phoenix, yes i bought one today (wednesday delivery) and was surfing around clipping and downloading stuff. about the MOJO. This looks easy enough to use. Thank you for your work already done !
Still in doubt if i want android TV installed or CM as i bought also a android TV remote with it (not even sure if these work but i costs only $4). Love the shields laucher/desktop.
Got one also start play with it now .....look cool and fast.
thanks a lot OP. very helpful.
Excellent work and thanks, @Phoenix4848! Don't forget that there are alternative methods of flashing, and also other ROMs out there. I recommend setting up Fastboot just as a safety net; it can save your bacon if something goes wrong with Flashify. This XDA section is a gold mine of info on the MOJO, but you don't need that link, do you?

Thank you for the feedback. Yes I want to install Remix OS on a different mojo; I won't attempt that until I have Fastboot up.
I created the folder/link for a kodi box support group on fb. The procedure is simple enough for the average user and it's important mojo owners get rooted and SuperSU installed - there is a piece of ransomware that is targeting Android 4 devices. CM 12.1 is stable and user friendly - and it's android 5.1 which will run the newer versions of Kodi.
Adding it here was an afterthought.

Good thought, even if it was after. You don't need fastboot to install RemixOS, or any other one, but if your MOJO is soft-bricked and you can't get into TWRP recovery you can fastboot boot the recovery and flash from that. You can also fastboot flash the recovery. And BTW you do not necessarily need MoDaCo's fastboot, if you're set up for other Droids like I was you can use your existing fastboot setup. I find it easiest to do from Linux.
Yes, I like the Lollipop ROMs myself, a huge advance over KitKat (IMHO they shouldn't have bothered to release KK). And Marshmallow is even better, much to my amazement. I wish I had the extra time to learn to port ROMs myself, there'd be a MM ROM out for the MOJO about now!

Not a clue. But here's a couple things to try:
1) Call or e-mail Amazon tech support
2) Try a different ROM on the MOJO
Remix maybe?

Probably not a problem with the Mad Catz device probably a problem with the OS. Stock is Android 4.2, CM doesn't seem to work with every player. Remix works with more players but I don't know if it will work with Prime. I'll try later.

It really is isn't it? Once you get over the hurdle of flashing a decent ROM, you're set. Fantastic little gadget. I was very lucky to get it for £60 here in the UK. I don't think I've ever had emulation play so well on anything before.
thank you ...for reply and advice now I will try to flash the new ROM I have to read more instruction.... again thanks

OK I have chat with Amazon IT tech he said most game console can't play Amazon video that the end of it and I get $5 for the next purchase. I will install the new ROM next...wish me luck!
PS: I still have doubt some of us have Amazon prime member install the video app to see ..is he right? thanks

I'm a Prime member but it'll be a couple weeks before I get a real chance to fiddle with it, so if nothing more comes up to prevent it, maybe I'll try it on CM12.1 then. Too many irons in the fire now...
Last year, there was a workaround to play Prime videos via the Dolphin Browser with flash activated. However, ever since Amazon Prime Video dropped Flash support, it's no longer working.
Prime was the reason I bought my first MOJO, ended up selling it when the the workaround stopped working. As of now, I use the (second) MOJO for Kodi and the Youtube App only.
It's truly a shame we can't use it for a service we pay for, especially when they claim on their website that all android systems (>4.0) are supported.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS since the stock meets my needs for now(minus Prime Video). But please do let us know if it works on the custom ROM you try.

I just got Amazon Video working on the Remix ROM. No tricks, it just works.
Additional note Xposed also works on that ROM. And Paragon should offer NTFS support. I like Remix - next step get a HDD working.

I haven't applied for reactivating my XDA state
You can try this version, but make sure you perform the migration script (official -> unofficial) if needed.
I was too lazy to create a new topic for this version. I have a YTX703L and it runs as good LOS16.1 runs. So I found no show stoppers.
Works pretty well
works pretty well...but ive flicker and glitches on the display...its getting less in the last build...will you go on and work on the newest Android version ?
thanks for your great work

Hi
I've been watching these forums like a hawk trying to get my tablet to run smooth considering the bad software from Lenovo.
Would you say it's working well with this version?
If the battery life is good and the bugs aren't too many , I wanna try it!
My now Lineage 16 is working alright, the tablet is fast but the battery is not as good as stock sadly.
Is is good enough for a daily driver?

Have been experiencing some lock up after long idle time. I mostly use my Yoga to watch movies and use MX Player. A few times would find launcher unresposive when come back from work and the only recovery is to power cycle. I do get restart option on long press of power button, but when choose to restart tablet does not come back on its own.
As for the battery, I've decided to attempt rebuilding it using new individual cells. Will post my results if I succeed or not.
Once/if battery issue is resolved, I probably will roll back to Lineage 16 and wait for a stable 17 release.
Just installed, working well
Thanks very much to the dev for continuing to release builds for this device. Just upgraded from OS16 today. Install worked really well with no issues. So far it's running nicely. New gesture navigation system is working in Trebuchet launcher, so now my phone and tablet are the same, it was annoying before having different interfaces on different devices. Excellent work, thanks a lot!
The last update was 10.08.2020, do we see a new one?
It looks like as we get no more updates, so I will go back to 16.
Sorry
surprise, surprise. Just after I went back to 16 a new 17.1 update arrived, dated 17.09.2020. I did a dirty install and it worked out.
Thanks
However, I am still wondering if it is worth switching from 16 to 17
If you are happy with Android 9 , keep it. If you are willing to have Android 10 than go for it. What new, I have no idea.

How's using this phone (or the Xperia RAY) in 2021?

Hear me out, I want to stop being addicted to social media and other crap that is too easy to access on recent phones. So I wanted to go back to some ancient phone that I had in the past and that I liked. My favourite old phone is the Xperia Ray, which is basically the same stuff as the Xperia Arc but much smaller. This phone is not too hard to find refurbished for a decent price, such as on Aliexpress.
The only features I need are mp3 playing, bluetooth streaming (IIRC this phone supports SBC and AD2P so it should work just fine), SD Card for music storage, and calls+sms. I would also like to use Whatsapp or Wire or Signal, but I don't think those support Android 4 anymore.
Anyone still using it as a basic feature phone? Can you use Whatsapp, Wire or Signal on it and does Bluetooth work well with recent headsets?
Let me reply to my own question. I bought the Xperia Ray refurbed on Aliexpress and it actually arrived in excellent conditions, it was almost as good as new. On its stock firmware, it's barely usable, but on 4.4 CyanogenMod it's fully usable. Whatsapp works well, and you can watch youtube videos with NewPipe legacy in 144p, not very appealing but if you are reading this you probably want to cure your social addiction. Other social media crap doesn't even work but then again I used youtube 99% of the time. Most apps don't work well, for example, the phone is unusable as GPS nav, so I have to keep a modern phone in the car in case of emergency (and swap the sim). The built in mail app from CM works well, and so does the music player, but I wanted to install the old Walkman ported from the Xperia S, which also works decently. Bluetooth in the car works for basic streaming with no metadata, but on CM it works like on a normal phone with metadata and everything.
The screen is a bit yellowed but I don't mind. The battery looks original and lasts around a day, but then again you will not be using it too much because it's not compatible with most apps.
Hello!
I just had the same idea that you had and wanted to rescue my old Xperia Ray, a phone that I loved, and make it usable too (Whatsapp is enough for me). The problem is that I am finding it hard to upload to Android 4 as most links and webs are now broken, and I don't even know how to run CyanogenMod... Could you please tell me if you followed any available tutorial or have the files needed for this?
Thank you very much!

If you've never run a custom rom on the Ray before, you'll need to unlock the bootloader first. Some instructions can be found here: https://github.com/LegacyXperia/Wiki/wiki/Installing-LegacyXperia-for-Dummies
You can find CyanogenMod and LineageOS roms for the Ray here: https://archive.org/download/LegacyXperia_SEMC_2011. Look for roms with "urushi" in the filename.
If you're going to install a Marshmalllow or Nougat rom, you'll need to follow this guide: https://github.com/LegacyXperia/Wiki/wiki/Installing-Marshmallow
I decided to use the LineageOS Nougat rom and posted some thoughts over here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...cyanogenmod-13-0-builds.3323975/post-85992081
Hope that helps!
