#[WARNING!!!]Do not charge the s6/edge with random micro usb cables - Galaxy S6 General

I bought my S6 about 1 month ago and since then I have charged it with different micro usb cables.Afew days ago the phone was showing random "top up's" on screen like "power sharing connected",Samsung VR" and yesterday I couldn't charge my phone .I have been to Samsung Care shop to see what's going on.I left it for 1 day to fix it.Thanks God I didn't root it and didn't break the knox to 0x1 and them done the service for free under warranty for 2 years by Samsung. The Engineer told me to not use foreign micro usb cables to S6 because it's different micro usb and it will break.I hope someone will listen to me and to not do whst I done. The normal price to replace usb port to S6 is £253 so be careful guys.

ok! and otg cable?

Any cable that is not Samsung S6/Egde original. Its need to be compatible with S6

USB is a standard and the connectors are the same but I agree that some cables might have different connector covers so it might push agains the case and force the usb connector.
On a side note you should black out your information. I can see your name, address, all your phone numbers, your phone serial/imei too...

Sorry that's crap.
A micro USB connector is a standard part, unless you are buying horribly cheap junk maybe, they will all fit fine.
I have used several cables and not hurt the phone at all.

I buy a kignstons usb duo 3.0 64gb for 22 dólars.... that's means I can't use in my S6?

using my OTG usb stick with the S6.... Works. It's a bull**** comment from the repair service...
Lets just hope this won't be an S3 disaster where the USB port was a weak point. My GFs S3 had the S3 USB port problem, where it would start charging very slow due to bad USB port and a week ago, stopped charging completly, unless kept in a specific angle. On my S3, all cables worked that I had, for hers, only 1 cable made a "good" connection.

the repair service has got it half right
regarding physical damage to the port:
what you want to make sure is that other USB cables don't cause stress to the USB port... as you may have noticed, different microUSB cables have different size plugs (the same microUSB metal connector, but the plastics surrounding it are different sized)... we must make sure our cases don't interfere with the cable plug (many case manufacturers only design their case with the original samsung cable in mind, which might not be big enough for plugs like the monoprice microUSB ferrite cable, which has a large rectangular plug)
all the above is moot if you don't use a case
edit: and update with a video to explain what i was mumbling about
regarding electrical damage to the port:
you'd be safe to stick with OEM quality USB AC adapters or other big-name (Anker makes a lot of them) USB AC adapters... but STAY AWAY from those no-name cheap china adapters!! those have poor power filtering, electrical noise, poor grounding, etc....

Just because it fits in the same hole and has the same pins doesn't mean it's compatible. Using a cable not made for fast charging on an S6 would be like trying to jump start a car with a lamp cord. It could overheat at the cable, connector or battery. That's why using the wrong charger or cable voids most warranties. Here's one such case, if you are interested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/oneplus-one-melted-t3008581
The OP is lucky Samsung honored his warranty.

I call BS. MicroUSB is an industry standard. If they were not compatible not only would they not be able to call it that, but they would be subject to sanctions for violation the requirements for using standard cables ports of which the MicroUSB is currently is.
While you might not get the faster charge if you don't use their cable and their charger unless you are using very poorly made cables you will be just fine.
I charge my s6 most of the time with a BlackBerry charger for one of their discontinued tablets. 1.8A with 6ft fixed cable, I have 6 of them, they charge everything from tablets to phones. The white "short" Samsung cable and charger is in the box.

NOT ALL USB CHARGERS ARE MADE EQUAL:

It is a valid warning, I live I EU and I think that I can trust shops here to sell me good product ... I use original mini USB cables for all my gadgets and all of them are the same but even dispite that on my ex phone I had flimsy connection due to some damage to USB port even I used original cable and I give credit to my using the phone during charging and the fact that most of us use our little finger as a stand and then the USB tend to move a bit and damage is caused...
The truth is that not all are the same as some are faster and some are not ... But in the meaning of just the metal part of actual connector they should be the same by law if EU ...
Considering that in mind the only rule in buying accessory like cables should be are they been through a regulatory channels ....

I use my Nexus 6 charger & cable works fine. Very fast charging on both. Buy OEM cables, a bit more but no headaches...

I use either Qi charging or at home I have uGreen mUSB cables.
No issues with any.
Nor have I had with any phone I've owned.
And I've owned a LOT of phones (probably change my phone a minimum of twice a year)

This is not correct, at all!
Micro USB cables are a standard and every cable should be good to use in the S6. I use 3 cables with mine: The original cable, my Tab S cable and some cable I have for years (from an Huawei X5 or a Moto G, not sure) and haven't had any problem what so ever! As said before, just stay away from the 0,2€ chinese cables.

Why did that happen to me then?i never used chinese cables.i have been using my genuine s4 and htc cable and the damage happened for 1 month after i bought it.so that will happen one day to someone else.if u have a look to the s6 usb port its a small difference between the other phones.it looks thinner. The engineer that fixed my phone advised me to use just S6 genuine usb to my S6.If you know all the Samsung S series have problems with usb port.

Charging cable - Is it generic?

I'm in the UK and want to save $20 on the charger
I have a couple of Micro USB wall chargers that i use on my blackberry. They will fit the N1 and plug straight into the wall. Would they be safe to use, to charge my N1. (These charges are rated 750mHA).
I know the N1 will be supplied with a micro USB cable. I also have an IPhone wall socket plug head, the ones where you just put the USB cable into the plug and then it goes into the wall. Are these safe to use too, for charging the N1?
Thanks
the Nexus one connector is standar microUSB and therefore will work with standard microUSB cables and chargers.
So there is no type of resistor or transformer in the official plug head? ... to restrict power. I thought there would be as my blackberry charger has a 750mha rating on it.
I can understand the USB cable will work as its a limited power output from a laptop port. But just wanted to check the official wall outlet plug current isn't being restricted. The last thing i want to do is fry my new N1.
Cheers,
Just plugged mine into my old nokia classic micro usb and it is charging fine
The specs for the wall charger are 5V and 1A.
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/nexusone/specification.html
do what i did. remove the charger from your basket and use the supplied USB with an old htc charger if you have one. If not get one for a few quid from ebay why spend $20 when you can get one for $5 odd from the market/ebay.
I can only speak anecdotally, but I used a Blackberry Storm charger and nothing exploded
this mini, micro, A B stuff is annoying. to clarify for my simple mind, will usb cables that fit into my G1 fit into the N1? or is it a different size?
Last year, Micro USB was decided as the open standard for cell phone chargers, so this should be replacing Mini USB as seen on earlier phones (BlackBerries, G1) in instances where the port isn't.. some.. proprietary crap.

No. The G1 used Mini USB, this is Micro USB. The phone comes with a charger and USB (USB-A 2.0 to Micro USB 2.0) cable.
It's not propitary so it will work with any other charger.
It's a funny thing to find. It's too new to be widely available
I went looking for a car charger and a straight USB A->Micro B cable. The former I found by poking in all the packages for different phones until I found it (found a Samsung charger that uses it, although they did want nearly £30 for the damned thing). The USB A->Micro B I drew a blank - the more clueless salesmen tried to convince me that I was mistaken and I meant Mini!
I thought the blackberry used them but I looked in the pile of blackberry cables the local shops had and they were all mini. Even my local electronics store has every kind of USB imaginable *except* micro.
Edit: Found one! (might be useful for UK users). It's out of stock though... http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/USB-A-to-Micro-USB-B-Cable.html
Just so you guys know, not all micro USB's are the same. I bought a car charger from a local Tmo store last week (I forget what phones it was for), and although it "worked" when the plug was perfectly perpendicular to the phone, it had quite a bit of lateral play (which the OEM plug does not), meaning anytime it moved in the car, it would stop charging.
I returned it, and am now just waiting for HTC to decide to manufacture accessories for this ever increasing bundle of worry...
I am using a TomTom charger for my N1, also the HTC hero and the Motorola Droid chargers works to charge my N1.

Seems like it was just a poor quality charger. If it's a micro USB, it should be built to specific specifications. I already bought a few chargers (including a car charger) and cables (for work, home and travel), and they all work perfectly. Technically ALL micro USBs should be the same, unless the manufacturer didn't follow the standards.

Hah, just my luck; I pick up the one out of spec micro USB charger in the entire city!
Although, it must be that particular T-Mobile supplier, as I went to another store and test fitted the same charger, and it had excessive wiggle as well. Either that or my phone is just lame...
I just got a universal charger in Tesco for £5 that has changeable heads (Micro, Mini, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia 2mm)
Works perfect
- The cable is standard USB. You can use it to charge the phone from your PC, or use another micro USB cable or charger you have
- The Nexus comes with a US 2 pin charger that is dual voltage - works in UK and US. Just spend 50p and get a US to UK convertor plug.
- The charger is rates 5v 1A, so if you have another microUSB charger with the same voltage use that.
I find charging from the charger results in more battery life than USB. The only explanation is charge rate because USB is 500mA and the charger is 1000mA
PS. I removed the UK charger from the order too. You get the US charger regardless in the box.

Samsung USB cable Crap?

Since I have gotten the Epic I have had so many issues with windows seeing the phone and installing the proper drivers even right after restarting the phone. Im lucky if windows see's the phone one out of 10 times I have to plug unplug etc etc until my pc's see the darn phone.
So I caught a post earlier that suggested to try a different cable and BAMM!!! phone links every single time no issues. Im using the usb cable that came with my evo now. Just side by side you can see the huge quality difference.
Samsung might want to check these cables and I suggest if your having charging or communication problems with the phone to try a new cable.
Let me know if any of you are also able to reproduce this!!
Yes. My cable actually broke the 2nd day of owning this phone because it was tugged on a little too hard while i was using my phone with it charging. It wouldn't charge the phone unless it was being pushed upwards or held a certain way.
Pathetic.
I've since been using my girl's MyTouch 3g cable and have had no issues whatsoever.
I just purchased a few new cables from monoprice. I've always had awesome results from them and they are cheap.
Yes the cable that comes with the epic should not be used with a computer IMO. Just look at the charger that plugs into the wall and compare it to the USB pins on your computers case.
The pins are raised a lot higher on the part that plugs into the wall compaired to how raised the pins are on my PC's case. I'm running an antec 1200 and I would consider the front USB ports to be really "tight". I then tried a different cable and have had no problems.......OTHER THAN BATTERY LIFE IN GENERAL sucks on the epic.
I didn't Realize there was a problem with the usb cable on th
e computer side but I have been using my I mac since my pc took a dump b. i think the phone end of the usb cable is just crap.it seems to disconnect really easy and not near as robust as the one that came with my hero. Still love my epic though!

Right? Well at least we got 16g sd cards. They have to give and take you know? lol
my cord works just fine.
However i only have one mini usb (the one that came with it) so i ordered some micro usb to mini usb adapters so i can use all my old cables.
Just order a bunch of microUSB cables from monoprice. It's like $1.20/cable. I ordered 7 so I have a large collection of easily lost cables.
How the hell did I not know about this site? THANKS

Usb c question

I purchased phone and they didn't send me a charger with North American charger but European style. So I'm using the wire they sent me with anker charger 4 port usb style.
The phone became very hot within 20% of charging. So my question is what's a safe charger to buy and a safe wire to buy as well just incase as an extra wire.
I gambled buying this phone I don't want to have any regrets. Please help. And guide me
Thanks
it should be no problem to use a different charger,
You can also buy an adapter for your charger eu to us

The cable can simply supply the power that really does not burn.
but there are several cables you can buy,
You can also buy an adapter for your existing cables

I would be a bit careful with certain usb c cables as some may damage adapter (or pc if you charge it through that) if you read this article for example http://www.pcworld.com/article/3002...-google-engineer-warnswhile-naming-names.html
Theres a google doc which consists of safe cables

Annoyances of having Type C

Just wanted to rant about how the most universal USB port is still so un-universal. I went to my buddy’s house last night for a party, and my phone died like 20 minutes after I got there. He had a few micro USB cables, but no one had a Type C. I know it’s my fault for not having my own cable, but man, what a pain. I can’t wait until it actually is the norm.
I would say it was your fault for having a dead battery!
I bought a pair of adapters so I can use other people’s Micro USB. There’s a bunch on amazon if you just search for type c adapters.

I have the adapter at home that came with the G5, but I have it on one of my old micro usb cables. I know that if I took it off to bring to someone's house, I'd totally lose it and then be down a cable at my house. But that's not a bad idea. Maybe I should invest in some additional adapters to keep in my car.

in the past it was also the same when micro USB was released whiles everyone was using the mini USB, you will get this problem with a new standard adoption, you have to give it time, and as many has stated, type C has not matured yet.
Just picked this up.
USB Type C Adapter,*Spigen® [56k Resistor to Meet USB-C to Micro USB Standard] Convert Connector Compatible with LG G5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, OnePlus 2, HTC 10, Apple Macbook [2-Pack] SGP11881 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A1EUVHQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_LUjjxb41FXA46
Totally worth it for $8.
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Any adapter will do, power drawn from a micro USB will not cause any harm to your phone, so these manufacture stating 56K resistor is just following the marketing plot to increase sales, but for a proper USB type C cable, a 56K resistor is needed.
I look at the S7 of mine that has micro USB and curse at why Samsung didn't put USB type c in it. I know why they didn't because of the Gear VR but it's really annoying.
I now have 4 devices that use type c and have bought loads of cables too to make sure I have no issues.
I love type c format. Very Apple like with the lightning cable but far more universal.
Yeah, we should never advance technology because it's inconvenient... LOL
I already have several compatible cables and chargers.
The annoying thing is manufacturer's aren't adopting it fast enough.
Just buy and carry a small adapter from micro-USB to USB Type-C. It is smaller than a cable.
The transition is always painful, specially for early adopters.
That's the whole beauty of having a phone with a removable battery. If I'm going out the evening, I swap batteries so there is no worry my phone is gonna die. If need be, I have a type c cable in my car. I bought several cables and adapters when I got the phone so I'd never be caught with a dead phone.
i always have an Adapter with me inside my Portemonnaie's coin section.
i also have three Adapters on fixed cables (work, bed, home pc) and use the LG cable inside my car since its short.
i have no complaints so far since this was not as expensive as buying new cables.

Buy extra cables, I have the tech mattes that are spec'd correctly and I leave it in the car for the car charger so I'm never without a cable.

Leeco pro 3 x720 Burned USB connector

Hi Everyone!
Unfortunatelly My x720's USB connector burned few weeks ago during fast charging.. It is burned, the connector is fuzed and I feel the burning smell, but it was already too late.
So the usb port got unusable, I can not use it for charging, and I am not able to connect to my phone!
I wanted to buy a new USB flex board but unfortunatelly there is no full (factory) version on the market!
I searched it many hours on the net, but there are only cheap ( remanufactured) version of it.
They have many missed parts, just have their solder points on the board, so these do not support OTG and fast charging.. I can not understand why can't make full version boards for a higher price, these versions are unhelpful items.
https://ibb.co/kYypx8
https://ibb.co/fnH4VT
https://ibb.co/fZM9x8
So I bought only USB C connectors and I will try to replace it on the original board!
I thing it will be a hard work, but I hope it will succeed.
If not, I have to buy a used phone for parts, and I will take out the USB board from it.
As I see, the X722 have the same flex board!
So I would buy a hard bricked x722 for parts for a good price!
Just very important to me that its USB connector be in a good condition!! Do someone would sell it??
I know unfortunatelly there are lots of users who have hard bricked dead x722...
So if you read this lines and you can help me, please write me, and I hope we can make a deal!
Thanks
Daniel
Hi, exactly the same happened to me, the USB port of my leeco was burned. I do not know if it would be because of the usb cable c stock that brings (bad quality). But you'd be surprised if I told you that, shortly after the usb port c burned down, I looked more closely at port C and there was melted black plastic on the pins of the connector. Then clean the connector with a fine needle (carefully), getting rid of the plastic, the remains are cleaned with cotton and a little isopropyl alcohol (which leaves no traces when it evaporates). After doing all the above, I was surprised when I plugged in the headphones and it worked, in the end I tried another cable type C first with the PC and it worked (it was recognized by the normal PC), then I took a chance with another charger I had at home (not the Leeco charger) and it worked ... I had no problem loading it. You could try it ..!

@Kener97
Thanks for the response, I would try it, maybe it would work for me as well, but it is pretty melted..Unfortunatelly I have already disassembled the phone. I did not have another cables, but now I have two good quality fast charger USB C cables, but now I already can't try it! I happy that you can use your phone after the accident. Yeah, you're right the original cable has very bad quality. I had already thrown it into the trash.
So I decided If I have already disassembled the phone than I will try to replace the USB C port in the next week and then I'll se what can I do.
@tsongming
Thanks for the links, but as I wrote, these USB boards unfortunatelly are not the original items just cheap versions with many missed parts! Check the images!!
You can see teir solder points on the boards. So these don't support OTG and fast charging... Only the normal charging without communications. These are not an option to solve the problem. Maybe if I would replace the missed parts from the original board if the connector replace won't be suceed.. )
I will write the result!
Anyone, any other solutions? Or anyone known where could I buy the factory version boards?
Regards,
Daniel

I don't know, but the x722 and x720 is the same at the USB port and the poor quality USB cable as well!
I just recommend You don't use the fast charging especially don't with the original cable!

Thank you for the answer. Do you think the problem is the whole charge or Just the cable? Is It ok to use fast charge with third party cables?

The cables are notoriously bad, one of my x727s was destroyed by a bad cable. Fortunately, Amazon exchanged it for a new phone.
We have 4 Leeco phones in our house. I have replaced all of the USB cables with highly rated cables, that have a replacement guarantee.

So you use the stock charge with another cable?

Although some people recommend also switching the charger block. I don't agree with them, and think that is overkill. Its the stock cables that are garbage, not the the charging blocks.
We have four of these charging blocks and no issues with any of them. In fact, in late December, when the X727 that I returned had its usb card burned. My dad ( a retired electrical engineer) took apart one of the blocks and found it well constructed.
Next, Leeco charging blocks are approved by and meet Qualcomm standards.
https://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/quick-charge-device-list.pdf
If there was an issue with the charging blocks on a large scale, would they still provide this publicly available list? No, I don't think so.
Should you decide to go ahead and replace the adapter anyway, The pdf list has a section with Qualcomm approved chargers under the "Premium Power Banks" section

There are plenty of people with bricked X722's, go to the X722 unbrick thread and message those people, maybe some on will sell you their expensive paperweight for cheap.
If you live near a large city there is bound to be a shop that does repair at the component level. perhaps they could fix your damaged board or as you mentioned transfer the chips from the old board to the 3rd party board that has missing chips. The issue is that some of those chips are likely fried.

Hi!
No, only will work the slow charging and USB communication with the cheap, useless USB flex board!
But there is a solution, to get a new original x720 USB board with all functionality!
After 3 months and Iots of time what I spend on the net, I found TAOBAO chinese site, and to my surprise some seller selling the original version board there with a good price!
Use the Crome browser with built in translater!
Only one problem, TAOBAO is a chinese "domestic site", and nobody ship to abroad.
But I did not give up! And I found the final solution, that's Yoybuy! (Yoybuy.com)
Yoybuy is a forwrding site!
You can buy everything form chinese sites helped by Yoybuy, for a cheap price!! From Taobao or many chinese site and you can use it English.
Just register at Yoybuy and copy the Taobao item's link to Yoybuy and they will buy the items, what you want! You can pay by paypal as well!
I hope I could help you! My phone is back to life, and it is like a new one!
Regards
Daniel
PS. Definitely buy a new good quality USB C cable for charging ( I recommend You the Oneplus DASH cable) to stay the USB connector intact!

I think you make a good point about the the LeEco charger. Precisely, it is the cable that is the biggest culprit. I recently bought a x720 and had it for a week charging with an old charger and cable of my le 2. One day i couldn't find the le 2 charging cable so I decided to use the one that came with the pro 3. Just seconds after plugging the cable in I smelled burning plastic and could see smoke coming out of the usb port. I removed the cable and could immediately see that it had melted on the pins close to the edge. Funny enough, if i plug this burnt cable on my le 2 it is charging but if i plug it into the pro 3 it gets hot and starts to produce smoke. I have tried with other type c cables and the port is burning them also. Now it looks like I need to replace my usb port. I will have a closer look at it to see if it can be cleaned but I'm not hopeful. I hope i can get original parts for it because i was sold an old phone by an AliExpress seller who claims it's new. I have started a thread on it. Hopefully I can spin it out to ask anyone with information about where to get genuine parts to help restore these old phones.
