No love for the 2015 Hyundai Sonata AA enabled factory head unit? - Android Head-Units

I've got a 2015 hyundai sonata that just got the update to enable Android Auto.. I have yet to see a thread on here regarding this setup, is it just because they are just now coming out so nobody has been messing with them, or is there no interest in modding these head units? I'd love to be able to customize mine, however, starting that process is way out of my league.. That being said, if someone else is interested, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

That's a different forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-auto-general

how is this an android auto general forum topic? this forum is for android head units.. the AVN 4.0 system that is in the '15 sonata is android based. therefore, correct forum.

Oh, I see. I'd thought Android Head Units were units that consumers can buy separate from the car.

nothing? wow, that sucks.. If it helps, i've got the update file for the head unit from Hyundai that enables android auto that I can post somewhere/send to someone to play with.. i really just want to be able to mess with my head unit, maybe replace the AA on it with one of the custom AA rom's/apps that are out there such as the one one that is in the other AA thread that allows you to turn your tablet into a head unit.. If anyone has any tips or anything on things I can look into to get this going, I'd be happy to do them. Hell, if you're in the LA area, I'll even bring my car to you to screw around with a bit if that'll help.

I'm no where near LA, but I would love to take a look at the file. With these systems being Android based, I'm sure there is some fun to be had.

Hey, if you still have that file, would you mind sharing it with me. I have a 2015 Kia Sorrento that I really want android auto on.
I am not any type of hacker or reverse engineering person. but If I had the file its a step in the right direction to finding a way to get it installed on my unit.

Jeep Wrangler Android Unit - Need Advice

Gang,
Let me be honest. I'm not an Android guy. I have nothing against the OS, I just have extremely limited experience with the platform as I got caught early in the Apple life cycle and have far to much invested in it to jump ship now. That being said I recognize the flexibility of the Android OS which is what brings me here. In the past I've built a one-off carputer before the equipment was widely available (2003-4) and have always missed the flexibility that gave me. With the current generation of Android based head units out there now I'd really like to add that functionality to my new 2015 Jeep Wrangler. The ability to have topographical maps, constantly up to date street maps, OBD II, full audio support for any audio format I want, and the ability to install any other app I want is amazing. Here's where I need your help.
TL : DR - I know nothing about Android head units and need advice.
I had originally been looking at the JK1001 from Insane Audio but can't bring myself to pay $1000 for an Android head unit. So I did some digging and found a quad core unit on AliExpress (Product ID: 32366565407) and it's really peaked my interest. Can anyone tell me anything more about this specific unit? Anyone own one?
Also, I'd love to run an external DAC on it that has 4V+ preamp outputs. Is such a thing made? Do they make a 4 channel DAC for Android head units?
Thanks for all you help!
did you ever get an Android Head Unit? I was also looking at the JK1001, but agree it is way over priced

Best Head Unit Android-Value

Hello everyone, I wonder what the "Android 2DIN Head Unit Universal" who advise me to buy "value and price".I did not want to spend much money, but at the same time do not want to put something weak. Someone can help me ? Is for VW Golf 4 year 2000. If possible good seller too. Thank you
You might struggle with this kind of post because most people will only have experience with one unit.
All I can say is the I went for the Newsmy Carpad 2 and am really happy with it. But I think if you went for any of the popular ones on this forum you wont be going far wrong.
I'd stay clear of the rare ones though - bit more risky and you wont get the same level of community support.

OP let me know what you end up getting. I as well have a 2001 GTI 1.8T. I have the appradio 2 but didn't install it yet. Want to get an android set up.
after my experience w/ my car joying unit, I say you are best off going with a unit customer built for your car. it will cost you more but in the end it will be easiest installation, best look, and the least compromise.
see if car joying makes one for your car model. they have great support both here on xda, and directly through the manufacturer.

They don't make them for Mk4 Golfs. Format is too old. He can only go with an universal joying and a fascia which you can get from anywhere from 8 to 35 Euro...

I had this unit. it's the best standard head unit you can buy as of now. the big issue it has is BT audio quality. If you can live with below average BT call quality then you should be okay. Everything else about it is great. I personally wasn't happy w/ how it looked in my car though. Be aware it is NOT a true double-din size. It is about .5" wider than a standard double-din, so you will need to do some cutting to get it to fit right in your car.
Maybe you should go with a universal head unit, cause I can't find a plug&play one for Golf 4 currently... If you got one, pls let me know ...

Reviews of Joying head unit compatible with bmw e90

http://www.carjoying.com/in-dash-gp...saloon-touring-coupe-cabriolet-2005-2012.html
Has anyone purchased this head unit from joying and installed it? I am looking for a good android head unit with bluetooth and gps like this one. I have not found much in terms of reviews of this one.
Is this a good one? Any recommendations for one compatible with a 2011 328i e90 model?
Thanks
I dont have this unit but from the pics, the firmware and MCU look exactly like mine. Im guessing the diff is just the screen and button layout. So any Joying review should suffice. Bluetooth and GPS are on point. I love it

What is model you have? I was thinking about getting the pioneer 4100nex. I'm kinda wary of the joying one because I've read the Bluetooth phone calling microphone on the joying unit at least is almost unusable.
I am considering the Joying unit for my '09 E93 as well. One of the better features is the EasyConnect app for mirroring both Android and Apple. Since I have an Android and my better half loves her iPhone, and we both drive the car, it makes perfect sense from a compatibility standpoint. As for the rest, well, it's Android... and I can read the forums myself. I am seeking info about practical applications of this headunit on a BMW.
I have installed this unit since Dec 2015 in my 2007, e92 and I am very much satisfied with it. There are a coupple of things like the crappy mic or the bad radio connection but here at xda you can find workarounds for the problems.
The seat heating is controlled via screen after installing.
The aftersale support is also very good, except their english
If you do have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

bad radio connection can be fixed how?

Best 8.0 HU & Ford Voice Control

Hi guys. I want to upgrade my Ford Galaxy (2011) to an android head unit. I've noticed that a lot of new octa core, 4gb RAM units running Android 8 are now out. Please could I have some personal opinions on the best of the bunch. I've looked at Pumpkin, Xtrons, Eonon etc.
Secondly, does anyone know if Ford Voice Control would still work? I'm assuming not for music etc but I'm hoping that it would at least for dialing phone numbers handsfree.
Thanks in advance

First off, anything you see that says "8.0".... take that with a grain of salt. The chinese way is to mislabel older things to pretend to be something newer. In fact, I would be seriously shocked if you see something with GENUINE 8.0 from china in less than a couple of years. They are *always* 2 years behind.
Secondly, and the dead giveaway on this, is that Android 8.0+ includes some very car-centric features. The UI on it looks very similar to Android Auto. If you don't see that, then its NOT Android 8.0.
THIRD, there really wasn't much changed in 8.1 over 8.0. Nothing that would make building it any more complicated than running a repo sync followed immediately by a make. There is nobody in the entire world who is going to be using 8.0.
Want to try something really fun?

REAL Android 8.1-ish (actually from the master branch, which is somewhere between 8.1 and "P") in your car.
look around on youtube to see what others have done. i have installed a new 8.0 4gb/32gb in my ford kuga (escape) and also installed mtcd dialler for voice dialing and it works fine. the steering wheel controls works too. all good
Can u tell me brand and model?
Thanks

Help me pick a head unit.

My 4 year old joying head unit died. So I need a replacement I don’t really need the full android experience just something that works reliably with Android Auto.
What are your suggestions.
I would like to keep it around $200 if possible.
Thanks
