Not upgrading poop if we can't run tx_dbs rom and emotion kernel keep 5.1.1

Bad news friends: The next Galaxy Note might come without an edged sibling after all .
Hopefully we will have software support for it.

Was wondering what that weird text message was all about.
I'll upgrade when root/a deodexed ROM is available.

Got an update this morning thought it was 5.1 but it was a maintenance and security update about 178mb

Ah screw it, I'll bite... I wish KK was still an option though. The fact that all of the originally advertised options are gone due to update, really sucks!! And the lack of xposed is apparent. I'd take KK over Lolli for this phone any day..

Why is KK not an option? I have seen no compelling reason to update to Lollipop, and unless one comes along, I won't.

So far everything seems smoother. Battery life seems about the same tho. No themes like S6, carrier aggregation has been enabled and new screen effect when turning on screen. It really bothers me that every other manufacturer upgrades their system ui except Samsung. They haven't done a ui update to latest TouchWiz since the S1 and S2. I hate that they get away with robbing us of new features on devices we paid $800+.. I've been a loyal Samsung guy, I own everything from their phones, watch, headphones and tvs but I dont think my next phone will be a Samsung. I'm ready to test the waters with LG when the G5 comes. Samsung is at a position where they feel they don't have to give us 100% and still get our money and it's not fair. Rant over, I really wanted themes smh...

They're getting reckless in a desperate attempt to get their momentum back. With every past Galaxy release they always increased their sales. It wasn't till the S4 that sales started lacking and that's what they get for saturating the market with 20 phones a year. That and the way they halfass their fanbase with these updates.. They cannibalize their own sales smh.

Well that brightness slider would be a GREAT addition in my opinion. I also wouldn't mind if the fixed the standby battery draw reporting glitch. Also, they could ACTUALLY fix the standby battery draw so the phone doesn't suck it self dry through the day from standby.
Oh yeah, the desktop background doesn't scroll when you flip screens. Don't know if that's a glitch, but it's just stupid and should be changed.
Another thing, the phone seems to just drop reception randomly even though it's in a fully covered area. This constant drop and pick up is suuuuuper annoying when you're surfing the web or using some messenger app. Also is a battery killer as well.
Improvements can always be made. It's nice to get the updates and nice to know samsung/att cares about our experience. (For sure ATT doesn't give two ****s so I hope Samsung can persuade)

Not sure if serious...
This phone's wireless/data radio are a complete pos. WiFi drops constantly, and it's just weak. I can't even believe how weak the signal is. You guys are worried about brightness...lol .
I've personally have had an issue where callers from my contacts list show up as Unknown. My Dad, with the same GS3, called me and asked if I was having this issue as he had been noticing it as well. Also, some others on xda have reported the same or similar issues.
I called and talked to a rep at tmo and was told that it was a known issue being worked on by tmo and sammy. Not sure when (or if) this will be fixed, but I'm hopeful.

Very nice. Im about to drop the hammer on a P6810 now that I saw this. After my journey with the Nexus7, I miss the quality of the Tab 2 7.0 I bought for my wife. The 6810 will be a welcome addition. Besides the fact that im not a hardcore gamer anyway.

I 100% agree with you. I guess I should just start saving up for the 7.7 note
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
Well, its on a Samsung corporate webpage so that is obviously a plus. Besides that, how can they only push a JB update to the lesser-specced device like the Tab 2 7.0 and not the 7.7?? Really??? The 7.7 is obviously selling, probably not as much in the US as it is across the pond, but its selling nonetheless and is still a viable device!
I don't believe it, google translate has this as the translated text
"Confirm the update" meaning there is no time for it, I'll see it when I believe it
It has nothing to do with specs, the S2 and Note I which are basically the same devices are supposed to receive the update, so the 7.7 could easily run JB from samsung.

and look at this article, there's still buzz going aroung 7.7, so samsaung won't forget it that easy, especially they will use a lot of common sw components from other similar devices, it will be configure and build and retest for them.

Not really fair to be honest. Every Samsung device I've had got at least 1 major update within a few months of its release. It's the the older devices, ie note 2, s3 that will wait ages or not get it. The S4 + Note 3 will get kit kat by January if history repeats. Also in the past Samsung have denied updates to older devices due to hardware limits, Google are claiming kit kat can run happy on 512mb Ram so who knows, maybe old devices might just get a break (pun intended, sorry )

As always, samsung is super slow with updates, so don't bother in at least 6 or 7 months, and even with that, the note line is never the first one, so probably S4 and S5 will get 4.4 2 or 3 months before the note.
Saw someone quote a samsung rep tweet about them being more concerned about getting most of the older devices to 4.3 first. And about note 3 having to wait at least 2 months for 4.4

This is one thing, coming from iOS which is absolutely mind blowing how Samsung doesn't give a rats ass about being up to date. Why own a Android device that runs old software 1 month after buying it and not be allowed to update it.

They did sell a significantly larger amount of Note 3's in a much shorter period than previous Note devices. So who knows? We had 4.3 well before the flagship S4...
As for the N2 (and S3) still lagging behind, that's because they skipped 4.2.

To quote Engadget :
Update: There's still no official word on why this is the case, but sources close to the company have pointed the finger at a different hardware issue on the Galaxy Nexus: its Texas Instruments-built chipset. The company is out of the mobile business and as such isn't in a great position to give the support necessary for continuing OS upgrades -- presumably some of those 1,700 employees let go in the shift away from mobile could have helped. Now we'll have to see if the community can pick up where the corporations left off or if this is the end of the road for the Gnex and its other OMAP-based kin like last year's Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD and Droid Bionic.

The note 2 actually came shipped with 4.1 jb.
I don't really know about the fuzz with updates. It's not like apple pushes em out on a monthly basis, only when needed. Same for Samsung, people should stop whining about fast updates, making them work etc takes a lot of time. If they release it early and there are a few bugs people will whine about that.
If the phone works and it does very smoothly here under 4.3 why do you instantly need an update?
Sent from my SM-N9005 beast of a phone.
Could someone (in theory) create a stock google 4.4 rom for our Note 3?
I know stuff like eye detection and the S-Pen and god knows what else wouldn't work..
AOSP roms won't be out for a while until Samsung gives the community the binary drivers.
Samsung are slow at doing, only in Oct did they release the binaries for S4 6 months after release.
In theory you can download 4.4 and cook your own rom but without drivers from Samsung it won't be stable or certain hardware will not work at all.
If you want the latest and greatest Andriod then you should have brought a Nexus phone.

Ive read from numerous sources over the past few months. The update always seems to be 'coming soon'. At some point, I think there was an official release from ATT saying early 2015 (But i don't have a source). Anyways, ill have to see it to believe it. It's not the worst. Even their latest flagship S series (since S6 isn't OFFICIALLY out yet) hasn't gotten it. Even the M8 hasn't gotten it.

It is odd that the site no longer has any firmware for our device. Just last week they still showed 4.3 as our stock firmware.

"with the Galaxy Note 3 likely to receive the update ahead of the current Note 4 and Note Edge."
Translation:
Maybe they'll start rolling 5.0 out before the end of the summer. 5.1? Probably not in 2015. And by then a real bug-fixed newer version will be out. (That big pile out behind AT&T is the pile of "go backwards fast" pills they each take every morning.)
But for me? I hate Material Disgust, my phone works just fine with 4.4.2, Towel Root and SafeStrap, and I'm in no hurry to maybe update to 5 with no way to get back to 4 if I don't like 5. I'd rather someone fix the Note 4 port - that's a nice ROM.
I didn't say it was the worst against other devices, it's the worst out of all Note 3 variants.

Where is our MM

Didn't Samsung say February for marshmallow on our Note 4? Or was it March? Either way no update what so ever this month?
It was scheduled for this month.
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
This mo? Don't think so. The note 5, international mind you, has only just started seeing it as of yesterday so I wouldn't expect ours until towards the end of the second quarter at least. Besides you'll see an rdf pop up 1st once they actually start working on it then many more rdf versions until a final release. I'm dropping this phone the day the new g5 drops anyway. It's just uneceptible the g4 has marshmallow since Christmas along with practicality every other manufacturer except Samsung. The g5 looks to be a killer device too. Hope they really sink Samsungs ship with it honestly. Especially after the update fiasco for the note 4 last year. Typical Samsung fashion though. Rant over.

The G5 is a two-lens modular multi-featured camera pretending to be a smart phone.
If I want a modular high-quality digital camera, I'll buy one with a couple lenses I can switch between.
I want a smart phone, and I'm happy if it has nice camera features.

Not necessarily - just because Sprint releases later than the international carriers doesn't mean that they receive it later. It's generally bad practice to openly treat some of your customers as guinea pigs for the benefit of the others, so it's more likely that Samsung sends out its generic rom to all carriers at the same time and Sprint just takes longer to add their proprietary bloat. It's also likely that Sprint waits to announce the upcoming version for the same reason xda devs don't do ETAs - because too many people take "estimate" to mean "promise" and get upset when delays happen.

We could get our update the next day, a year later, or never, with equal probability. The only useful deduction we can make from their release date is that we definitely *won't* see our update before that date, which really isn't very useful at all

I don't want MM.
Annoying permissions popups? No thanks.
Doze? Don't need it. I set my phone down on a wireless charger. It doesn't drain slowly, it charges.
Maybe after 8 months or more when they iron out all the issues, I'll consider it. By then, I'll probably have a new phone.
I hope to get the s7 edge sometime soon
Already pre ordered
