He means he flashed the rom when he already had 5.1 installed using it as a ghetto update. When you have modifications/root doing OTAs can be a pain, so being able to just flash the rom and reflash root makes things much simpler.

Can anyone please uplload the flashable zip of new factory image I.e. LMY48I? Also if anyone is already on this new factory rom , please confirm if the mic problem of Nexus 4 has been resolved?

Did you mount system before you flashed zip else you can flash zips all day long - nothing will change

where can I submit a kernel to be autorooted?
I've got a factory kernel downloaded for a Nexus 10 mantaray, Android 5.1 lmy47d, but I've been unable to track down where to submit it, or how to go about rooting it myself. I hope this is the appropriate place to ask such a question.

not really sure what's the question here but cd-autoroot does not flash a custom kernel, it uses the stock/factory kernel, afaik.
