Sound Quality and new "Walkman" - Xperia Z General

Hey.
I was wondering what do you think about sound quality after latest LP update? And most important, what do you think about latest amazing retarded idea of dumping Walkman brand and making one of worst music app Sony created for past... well, they never had bad music player until now!
But before I write what I think about sound quality, I really, really need to say something about this "Music" Player.
>>Skip it if you dont care about walkman app<<
I always loved W series from Sony Ericsson, I had, and still have most of my older phones from this series. And because Im really fussy about sound quality and music player design I was a bit shocked after I saw Sony idea to remove Walkman name, and going to most lame excuse I ever read to rename app to.... Music...
I didnt install this app update when I had KitKat(dont mess with something that actually work) So after Installing LP I had time to see what they did to my most beloved app on my phone. And Im shocked how someone could destroy something with only really small changes.
At first nothing is changed, but what is most important are details.
After you open app everything is normal.
I never liked main page, its chaotic and beside good look its not usefull, but I never used it so I didnt care about it, I spend there only 1sec after opening app... untill this update...
Now everytime when Im listening something and Im clicking widget or icon, instead of going to current music player its moving me straight to main page... and to do something in actual player, I need to click lower bar to open it... annoying as hell.
Now lets look at most important part of player:
looks simple and good right? its change color depend on cover, and it have big buttons. But beside that they ripped fewparts that was good about walkman player. First of all they removed Favorite icon(star) that I, and lost of people I know liked, because it was quick way to select your favorite track. Now this option is in lame, small duplicated menu as a text.
About that menu. Why they putt menu dots in lower right corner if you can access menu just by clicking album art? I have no idea...
But thats not everything!
How about SECOND menu in top right corner!
You thought that all? HELL NO! we have THIRD setting menu!
Because Sony love Mario, and they though that it would be funny to say to users: "Sorry, but setting that you look for is in another Menu!"
So now not only they make chaos in settings, remove one of simplest fav option, but they forgot about.... simple and quick option to see current playlist. You can only click artist name to go to page of his album, or you need to swype left to select current playlist menu, that sometimes doesnt count what you selected, and sometimes add track to end of the list and sometimes to next track on the list... no one know how this "magic" work...
Now how about burying one of best option that compared to other similar options, actually work good: Sense Me playlist...
Instead of putting this option as a one of main feature, they buried it in playlist menu...
Seriously, most of similar apps that sets music by mood work weird or need weird scan everytime to play something.
Of course its not perfect but still better than others, and I never had weird track placement when I used it.
Now most important: Sound quality options.
As most of you know, they removed few important options that bump volume in our XZ, but they also messed up rest of settings.
As I mentioned they moved sound settings to weird place.
Its look simple but still its a bit pain to use it, especially Headphones option:
From this list, I have MH-EX300AP and STH30, and with or without ClearAudio+ options, settings for those specific headphones work like cra#p.
EX300 options make sound more centered and with huge boost of middle parts, and STH30 option make sound more muffed with too much bass.
Rest of options except bumping middle parts and squeezing scene to middle doesnt do anything.
<<< - End of the less important Rant about Walkman Player... sorry, "Music" Player - >>>
Now lets talk about actual quality of the sound on Xperia Z with LP.
For most of the day I use my good old JVC HA-S600 that have best quality-price-mobility ratio I ever had, but also I use mentioned before MH-EX300AP for outdoor and in home a bit used Beyerdynamic DT 770s(look like **** but sound is still amazing)
And no matter what I have on my hears, sound compared to what I got in KK is just a bit worst in LP. Its still have nice amount of details for most of time, and at least its dont sound like old radio.
But overall quality is weird, especially wide scene. I tried messing with EQ, ClearAudio+ still sound much flatter, and middle parts behave weird, when there is much going on, on the scene its lost all details and its just plain hum that sometimes move to high levels.
I have my two favorite test tracks (Aphex Twin "Vordhosbn" and Bruno Coulais "La marche" Himalaya OST ) and I know those tracks like my own hand, so after I played them on LP it was obvious for me that something is not right. Those tracks are really heavy for every headphones and player, they have all necessary parts to hear whats going on: One is loud with good amount of bass, and other is really soft and have really wide scene with different vocals. And especially in La marche you hear that now xperia is WAY flatter than before.
And as I said Im using Walkman almost my whole "life with phone", And I never encounter such problem with it.
Now I really dont know if its because of new player or because of this update.
Its not big deal, probably 90% of you dont hear any difference except loudness, but just like with camera those small changes make people crazy if they use this all the time and they know what it should look/sound.
Sooner or later Im gonna back to 4.3 but now I was wondering if its my specific xperia z got that (even if I installed LP two times for test purposes)

from my opinion.. i think my phone sounds better in LP than KK or JB.. the sound is more clearer.
BUT
At the bad side, the soubd is toooooooooo low and i hate the interface of new music player where i need to take more step than before to go to sound enhancenent.. And there is no PlayList like before.. I need to go to Music Main Menu to access all my song list... Damn Sony... Damn! return my walkman where i can choose my song to play without skipping one by one or go to main menu just to select what song do i want to hear... :banghead:
Sent from my C6502

sound volume was really low on kk xp. z but on lollipop it's even worse. and yes, i miss the walkman, too.

There is a mod for sound here in the themes frame that makes the sound louder again

Well... All of you should know by now that with every update we lost some functionality from before. I noticed this on all Android phones I have had till now... ?

UPDATED!!! iPhone-like Music Player: Lumen. [alpha]

PLEASE READ THIS!!
Hi.. just to announce, that I'm making serious efforts to make the iPhone-like musicplaying capability on a Windows Mobile device, I show you now what I have been cooking for a while now..
This is only a proof of concept thing. It won't play any music now. It just shows the possibilities.
I was quite busy in the summer-time, so I had no or little time to develop, but it's going to change.
Anyway, a few things you should know:
- only 240*320 portrait mode (for now)
- .Net Compact Framework is required.
- it's filled with some random data.
- there is a syncing software on the desktop-side, which transfers a playlist from iTunes (not included in this release)
- without cleartype enabled, it's ugly.
- again, it won't play music now!
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU SOFTRESET YOUR DEVICE AFTER INSTALLING.
FAQ
-----------------------
Q: Will it have a coverflow-ish cool feature?
A: Yes, there will be.
Q: Will it support landscape mode only screens?
A: Well, landscape mode will be used for the coverflow-ish view. I'm still considerind this.
Q: Will it support smartphones?
A: I hope so.
Q: Will it sync automatically with my computer?
A: Of course it will!
Q: Yeah, but how?
A: You have to select an iTunes playlist then decide whether use the activeSync connection (more convienient but slower) or select a drive, and let the Bridge program on your computer do the rest (less convienient, faster)
Q: Wait, you have to have iTunes to use with this thing?
A: Currently, yes. iTunes offers a great API to work with, so it's very efficient to use. Also, in iTunes, most people has georgeous album art in tracks, and in Lumen, album artwork uses a lot of screen real estate, making it look insanely great. In the future, I'll consider fetching MP3 ID3 data, and so.

Things I'd like to see with this application (in comparsion with Audio Manager):
1. Integrate with HTC Home music tab - so that it can be controlled via that tab.
2. Possible to turn-off phone/screen while the music keeps on playing (to conserve battery)
3. Lists/plays tracks according to track numbers, not alphabetically (Audio Manager has this problem)
4. Library option - by albums, artisits, genre , etc.
5. .ogg support.
Possible?

1. I don't know "HTC Home music tab" and I don't know how to communicate with it, but I'll take a look.
2. It's already implemented in a previous unpublished version.
3. If you go to an artist, and select an album, it'll show it by track numbers if it's given. Any "view" that contains songs from a single album uses this mode.
4. I think it's already in.
5. Well.. i'm using Windows Media Player component, so it plays it if your device already supports it. (I'm looking for a better audio playing solution) So in theory, it can work.
stephano nice works...!
Hope nice programs in the future from u..!
Just tried it out. Nice and cool.
Looking forward to your release. Good job bro!
wow
the second iPhone Media player in two days? I'm really impressed.
Will test soon
EDIT: Great concept, but try to speed it up. Oh, and mine does not play any music. Please fix it
mindless ramblings aside, this looks neat. You made it on to my 'watch-for-further-developments' list.
What to say.... WOW!
Scrolling smoothness is really impressive I must say. Some other developers playing around with iPhone like applications should implement your scrolling routine as it is almost perfect.
I had many problems with selections at beginning, until I realized that, differently from other apps, I had to double-tap , so ppl please DOUBLE TAP'em :-D
You could join efforts with the other guy messing with an iPhone like mediaplayer (His already playing trough WMP features), but I think those 2 are developed in different ways.
Hope anyway to hear news from you soon
I'd love to see what this app looks like, but I Can't since I don't have a WM5 or 6 device. My player and this, are coded in two very different ways, so it would be hard to sort of combine the two, or use his scrolling routine, although from the sounds of it...I'd LOVE TO! I'll be keeping my eyes here though...
In truth I would like to see other developers using YOUR scrolling routine. I truly love it!
Have a nice evening.

WOW! Thanks!! Really!
Anyway, you don't have to double-tap.. It goes into things with one tap, but I'm working on to make the app realize it much faster. Since it has to mess with databases, then draw the list, it isn't as easy, as you may think.

Hey great app, this is the kinda thing i've been looking for, anyways once you get everything working properly, i have a suggestion for a cool feature, maybe once ur in the player u could have a coverflow type thing where u can flick thru album covers to select songs, srry if i'm asking for too much too soon but i can't contain myself when something this cool comes up.

Officially no longer iPhone fanboy... Software Progression of an Xperia Lover

When I first bought my Xperia, I HATED it! I was forced to give up my iPhone due to some of the “Call acknowledgement” programs that our hospitals use would not recognize the iPhone email format.
***skip to bold for what latest software progression is***
So I bought the Xperia and:
It wouldn’t play Youtube video AT ALL!
It was slow as hell.
It froze up constantly…AND WHAT THE HELL IS THIS 5 TO 15 SECONDS BEFORE THE SCREEN REACTS TO A BUTTON PRESS CRAP?!?!?!?
Video playback was terrible and it was a pain to convert movie in the first place.
Camera performance was slow slow slow and poor
Windows itself is clunky and unrefined.
Call signal was weak and volume low
Media panel volume was low and noisy.
Why in the wide wide world off sports would Sony use a resistive screen instead of capacitive glass covered in this day and age? With a stylus no less.
FIRST time round:
-So I found XDA and:
Installed Youtube.cab and Panel. – First problem down!
Found the Video with Hardware acceleration thread – there are my pretty decent results (not perfect but decent) video convertor.
Found the Turbo your X1 thread and my video was greatly improved.
Loaded Xperiatweak and changed a Bunch of annoying Xperia behaviors and setting
Loaded SDTuneup.cab and was nicely surprised by the improvement.
Found the benchmark posts and played with setting constantly improving the performance more.
Found all the different tips and tricks threads between Xperia and HTC forums….nice!
SECOND incarnation:
-Then loaded the leaked X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_R2AA008 rom and loaded from the SD card.
Hey! Everything and I mean everything works faster!
Video looks better!
Installed all of my old programs and tweaks plus the simple battery colors cab. SHAZAM! This is nice!
It is locking up WWAAYY less.
Youtube videos look 90% as good as they do on the iPhone.
I am getting happy with the phone,
I am no longer switching sim to my iPhone on the weekends. I may carry it to have a movie on hand but that is it.
I get the Sony panel set up to my PERFECTION with 3 RSS feeds, Calendar, com managers, and launch icons.
By now I’ve found the stylus is much easier to use when surfing full web pages as the icons and links are tiny but usable.
I am finding myself constantly pulling our my Xperia to play with it now.
AND FINALLY!!!!!!!!!
-I loaded (via SEUS) X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_R2AA010 rom
** HOLY CRAP! After 4 hours of use the Xperia is working as quickly was the 008 upgrade was after a week with tweaks installed**
-Installed sdkcerts followed instantly by SEX1cons "Q series v1.1”. WOW! This looks slick as hell! I mean really ‘effing good!
-Installed Youtube Panel and cab. I can’t watch and download “HD videos” at the same time without lag. But after loading, “HD” trailers and such look 95% as good as they did on my iPhone. (almost there guys)
-Installed Xperiatweak
-REMOVED Xperiatweak – found that the Memory tweaks actually reduced my overall speed and if even attempted the default Panel mode would lock up my Xperia Constantly until a hard reset was performed. The "memory tweaks" made by Xperia tweak would also be reset to original by the phone. (advanced configs would not) I don't think everyone has had these issue with it but I found Xperia tweak more of a problem than a help at this time.
-Installed advancedConfig.cab and did almost EVERYTHING (sms notice, security notice disable, ) than I could from Xperiatweak (default IE cache, pic/video location, pressure threshold, etc)
- Put my memory settings (except for glyph cache-32kb) back to Original rom (File system-enabled, system cache-auto, filter cache-disabled) and found my Xperia is fastest here (don’t know why yet)
-Installed tomtom7.9 –downloaded the free map and a voice. With the help of quickGPS info TomTom locks on in about 10-15 seconds.
-Overall media volume seems improved too. I am not hearing any of the noise between tracks or when searching for tracks.
-Installed Facebook panel and have not seen anylock ups at all from it. And it is nice and speedy now.
BOTTOM LINE:
When out to eat, I find myself throwing my phone up on the table with all of the other tards who throw their iPhones and Storms on the table to show off. I know I won't be embarrased by lock ups when they pick it up and start flipping through panels and programs. I am smilling by the "ooo's and ahh's" of having weather, calender, communications, launchers, and RSS feeds all on ONE screen. And TOMTOM (with Ozzy voice) seems to just blow everyone away. MY phone was crowned the new king of the hill and I am loving it!
Best of all, I seem to be installing programs for customizing looks and preferences instead of installing programs just to try and improve performance.
If you just want to be able to pickup your phone, load and ap or a song on and go, the iPhone is for you. If you want to be able to mold your phone to the way YOU want it.....the Xperia is it baby!
I,m Going the opposite way im afraid.. I am experiencing multiple crashes. my 2 week old xperia has a crack at volume button, its not very thumb friendly unless you install tf3d which i did. I really wish my operator O2 uk would stock htc phones becuse it appears this is a pig in a poke this model so its getting taken back to o2 and swapped for a ..iphone 3g i always insisted i would not get one, but now i am im going to jail break it etc hopefully by the time upgrade comes again o2 stock htc and i will know exactly where to come for all the help in the world bye people thanyou for all your help and advice during the short time i had an htc phone
respect kdspiv
i will send your text to friends who don't like the xperia hahhaa
The cracking thing scares me. I am planning on living with the crack when mine start to develope. But so far, even after two drops (I have to carry my phone and email 24x7 so my Xperia is CONSTANTLY being handled, slid into labcoat pocket, jeans pocket etc.) I haven't had issues yet.
The iPhone is kick butt. But there those of us (in a hospital setting for example) who live and die by enterprise business email AND have to rely on the phone to wake us up from a dead sleep. The lack of end-user settings (email format, hell..even email notification VOLUME) make the iPhone unusable.
The Xperia has it faults. And for those who like the "pick up and play" aspect of the iphone with movies and apps (like I did) the Xperia has a tough battle.
If sony would make a plug and play accelerometer (maybe internal to a class 8, 16 gig sd card maybe *i can dream right*) I would be a happy camper.
iPhone is a closed, locked room: WYSiWYG
Win is a crappy old room, but open, with potential, and inivting to paint & decorate
I had NEVER thought of tweaking a DLL or a system file in my whole life until this beauty came to my hands and stared at me saying: "make me yours, I will mod to your desires"
I'm happy
I LOVE xda-devs and I LOVE my SE-X1/HTC Kovsky

I can happily say, without any exageration, your SE-X1 was a nice portion of me finally coming to love my Xperia.
And something people who pickup my phone for the first time immediately notice. (especially the blutooth/headphone icon for some reason)

O2 do stock HTC phones, they just call them O2 phones instead - check them out on their site, they're almost identical to the normal HTCs, but with a little branding.
For me its all about the journey.
The process of improvement and customisation is very satisfying. Its like the difference between givin a house which needs doing up to your tastes and your needs, which is Xperia, and someone giving you a brand new rented house, the same as everybody elses, but you cant change anything in it, apart from buying new stuff.
No 2 Xperias are the same, check out this thread to see the vast array of looks and UI avaliable for X1.

DIY-ing is very satisfying !
Good thread this !
So R2AA010 works good huh? I'm waiting for a chef to cook up a new Rom base on this build, it's tempting for me to load it up with SESU but I dont want all the crap with it. Glad to see your X1 running good.
man I could convince plenty of my friends by sending them this thread.
but I wanna stay the only one with a SEX1 (cool name by the way) in town
but just as mentioned in the first post, I really was dissapointed for the first 2 weeks.
this is my first winmo device, I had no clue what possibilities there are.
today I'm totally satisfied with it, and not longer jealous on iPhone users.

It is working pretty well for me. The couple of issues I have seen are these.
XperiaTweak - did not work so hot for me with RA10.
-First, if I tried ever uning the "default" panel setting it would lock to the windows panel no matter which panel was selected in the program. And eventually would just lock up the machine all together.
-Second, when I tried the memory tweak the Xperia would actually slow down. And eventually it would revert itself back to stock memory settings.
second-Memory settings in general - Everything seems to work better at the stock settings. Maybe after the flash "breaks in" tweaking the memory via schaps advanced config will work better. Changing the glyph cache to anything besides 8 made no difference in the speed of movies or panels.
Also, for some reason setting the IE cache locations to the SD card causes IE to stop functioning. Opera still will at this time. I am not familiar enough to know if Windows doesn't clear out the history and cache when it is on the SD or not. So now I use the SD as default storage for pics and Xperia video only.
It takes twice as long to boot up as it did at RA8
Whether right or wrong, these are my observations so far.
Oops....forgot to say good things.
1. When opening up keyboard, landscape mode is instant. I mea it is complete by the time the keyboard open or closed.
2.Panel button still takes a good 5 seconds to deploy the panel navigation screen. BUT the screen are super fluid and the time it takes to completely implement a panel is 4 seconds flat from selection to fully functional with all my RSS feeds, weather, etc.
3. Menus are instant. All screens move much more fluid and programs start very quickly after selection now. EXCEPT for ANY program that changes settings such as Scheps Advanced Config or Xperia tweak. These types of programs seem to take almost twice as long to start up on my device as they did in RA8.
4. Phone Signal strength is very much better for me. I would lose signal in most areas of the hospital especialy Radiology (lead shielding) and anywhere in the Garden Cafeteria level (basement). But I have noticed today that I have had full strength everywhere and even half bars in Radiology with T-mo.
5. Over all system volume is better. Wired headphones is slightly louder, AD2P bluetooth is unchanged. But low volume movies are definitely louder and the Mp3 ringers are noticably louder too.
6. My wifi clicks on and off more often and doesn't seem to have a strong a lock as it did before. How ever internet speeds are a bit better when fully connected and my battery usage seems a bit better.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH OF THIS IS JUST WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING!!!! It seems each Xperia varies depending on how clean the rom loads or softwares loads were. Someone may break down the software and find out there are no changes and this is all in my head. But these are my results so far.
I'm glad for you
However, you should check the youtube again, My X1i kicks iPhone's behind in viewing any video, just the 800x480 vs 320x480 killed all my iPhone friends.
Well, in resoloution yes. Especially if you watch something like the NVIDIA HD demonstration video. BUT, I still have a bit of either lag or frame drop. I am not sure which is correct but they both equate to the Iphone still having smoother video both on youtube and on regular video.

Remember: when in 800x480, the device has to move FIVE TIMES MORE INFO (pixels per frame) than running the same video over a 320x240 device
800x480 = 384,000 pixels displayed per frame
320x240 = 76,800 pixels displayed per frame
To be fair, better compare a QVGA video on both devices, sans resizing

You are exactly right. BUT!!!! 95% of the people who are going to compare them have a friggin CLUE about what you just said. They are simply going to look at it and say "Its not as good as my iphone" because they see the jerkyness before they seen the better resoloution.....
Maybe I am wrong about this on the larger picture. But in the people who have compared my Xperia to the iphone, this has deffinitely been the case.
I think both of you are right, but at the same time thats not point of the youtube issue, for me at least. Mine isnt working smooth anymore. It used to, when I was using the stock rom. So something definitely changed in the firmware that is causing problems. The X1 is definetly capable of pushing those HD youtube vides at the full 800x480 res-I know becuase mine used to. Not anymore
Welcome
A hearty welcome to the windows mobile community my friend.

Just a thought re the memory tweak slowing your x1 down... when I was fiddling after flashing to 010 from 008 I noticed that the glyph cache was at 128 instead of the lower 32 that I was using previously... so I made sure to keep the higher setting... perhaps the stock setting was higher?
second-Memory settings in general - Everything seems to work better at the stock settings. Maybe after the flash "breaks in" tweaking the memory via schaps advanced config will work better. Changing the glyph cache to anything besides 8 made no difference in the speed of movies or panels.
I see you already did the glyph cache thing, disregard the above then? I also set the file system cache to 8mb and noticed that it was already enabled (but on 2mb) unlike the previous ROM and finally I also set the file system filter cache to 16384 sectors... this worked nicely on the last ROM so giving it a try now..
Also, for some reason setting the IE cache locations to the SD card causes IE to stop functioning. Opera still will at this time. I am not sure if mine is twice as long but its certainly a bit longer, although the more times I reboot it the faster it seems to get... could be just me getting used to it though...

I found this too... was working very well before but now seems to anticipate the change and does it instantaneously...
2.Panel button still takes a good 5 seconds to deploy the panel navigation screen. BUT the screen are super fluid and the time it takes to completely implement a panel is 4 seconds flat from selection to fully functional with all my RSS feeds, weather, etc.
Same with my device... I count to about 2 or 3 before the panel is up and ready for action, much much faster there...
3. Menus are instant. All screens move much more fluid and programs start very quickly after selection now. EXCEPT for ANY program that changes settings such as Scheps Advanced Config or Xperia tweak. These types of programs seem to take almost twice as long to start up on my device as they did in RA8.
Blazingly instant... it seems much more responsive and the windows folder comes up in about half the time... progs start awesomely fast and even Advanced Config is quick, I dont use xperia tweak so cant comment there...
4. Phone Signal strength is very much better for me. I would lose signal in most areas of the hospital especialy Radiology (lead shielding) and anywhere in the Garden Cafeteria level (basement). But I have noticed today that I have had full strength everywhere and even half bars in Radiology with T-mo.
I agree with this also... now where I used to get the G icon I get the E icon plus better sig strength... (o2)
5. Over all system volume is better. Wired headphones is slightly louder, AD2P bluetooth is unchanged. But low volume movies are definitely louder and the Mp3 ringers are noticably louder too.
Havent tried the headphones or movies yet... but its on my list as I have to study for a presentation this thursday so transferred my mp3 files for that and will be using it later...
6. My wifi clicks on and off more often and doesn't seem to have a strong a lock as it did before. How ever internet speeds are a bit better when fully connected and my battery usage seems a bit better.
Have not tried the wifi yet, but edge etc works very well... I agree with the comment on battery power, perhaps they are using a new power management system? I was installing/playing/tweaking my phone for 3 hours last night and it dropped to 90, no big deal I thought but another 3 hours (how time flies when you are having fun) later it was on 80, went to bed and this morning still 80 even with texts and weather update through the night... great stuff...

I am very pleased you gave me the nudge to switch to the 10 ROM over the 08... it might be a list of little things but over all the experience is now much faster and smoother... well worth the change...
@shadowdh
WHOAAAA! I think you are right! I hard reset to revert back to stock RA10 rom. Even though glyph cache came up in advanced config as 8, when I used another program to to views "device settings and stats" .... glyph cache is set to 128. What?! Dangit, which one is correct? I am not sure how to look through the registry and find out the actual setting but that is next on my what-to-learn list.
Maybe a conflict of some sort was the factor slowing my configuration type programs down?
So now I am finding a good portion the xperia-video-stutter may be mostly to video conversion and finding the proper convertor. (I know some of it is a driver issue) Yes, I have used the video converter listed on here. And it IS easy to use, but dang it is finicky, for me at least, as to how well it converts from movie to movie.
I have downloaded the examples on the thread. But they have a tiny bit of drop too. If I view them on the laptop the video has the same fluidity as it does on my Xperia. Again, resolution looks GREAT and motion is almost there.....but I want it all!
Another Xperia owner and myself have been traded a couple of movies. His movies look a tad better. His suggestion is that I get a better video ripper. His is on Mac so he cannot share his with me.
Sidenote:
I also tried movies converted for my PSP through video vault for the sheer helluvit. They look pretty decent but the sound is ALWAYS off.
Wow, I am really glad for you. With XDA-devs around you never have to fear any software problems/bugs/insufficiency.
With dedicated developers who don't ask for much other than thanks and occasional donations, you will be really fine and happy on the software front
God forbid the following, but wait until the paint on your device start peeling off, wait until your keys decolorizing, wait until scratches appear on your keyboard, wait until pieces of your keyboard fall off, wait until your d-pad start cracking, wait until your device crack without any agitation on your part AND wait until your keys GET UNRESPONSIVE(you get tactile response but no character appearing).
I am being a wet-blanket but fret not, the telecom/service centre will show you love by giving you free-repair/exchanges.

Android Default Music App - Anyone Else See These Annoyances?

Now I am easy to please in terms of something "just working" enough to do what its intent is. But 2 things I've noticed about the default music app that I want to see if anyone else has noticed.
1) Whenever you are playing a song and have the window up, if you hit back to go to the playlist again, it will do the "window wipe transition" as if it is going back, but it stays on the same screen. It takes a second tap to actually go back. and
2) When you go to scroll through a playlist, if you don't move your finger instantly, I mean stall for even a second, you will have chosen a song, and are moving the order of that song in the playlist.
Has anyone else encountered this and/or know of a way of fixing it?

I don't think I've noticed these, but I'm pretty damn sure that google is conjuring up some kind of a new, reworked music app. They have been ignoring it in the past, and collecting user's feedback.
If I were to guesstimate, we'll have a new music app in 3.0 or so.

Man, I sure hope so. The N1 is definitely awesome, but all the other Androids get things written specific to them whereas we are "generic." Don't get me wrong, I love everything about this phone, I just hope having the Google Experience phone lives up to that, as it should be super awesome to begin with, not just barebones. Fingers crossed for 2.2.
Not many people really like (or use) the default music app, therefore hackers or app editors (and bug fixers, lol) have barely touched it. I rarely even hear it referred to theses days, and honestly I suggest downloading an alternative. I love music, and could not go on without it.. I had to download a better replacement quickly. Though, the Sense music app is still good, the app I use is still what I favor more. I've never even heard anyone make notice of any bugs it had.. (the default app)

What music app do you use? I tried TuneWiki at one point, but I had trouble with my BT headset, and found that to be the problem so I uninstalled it.

I hear btunes is really nice (just stating a random alternative) very iPhone like, but I use RockOn (called 3 in the market, but you have to search RockOn) its very simple and barely has many options.. I just like it for some reason. People seem to love it also.
I'd personally recommend museek - topographical album mapping by genre, gestures, smart shuffle mode that adjusts what songs get played based on what you skip and what you listen to, and resumes music playback when you plug your headphones back in

You can try MortPlayer music too
+! to OP about pressing back goes to the same screen twice sometimes... The thing that really annoys me is that there is no easy way to play music you want by folder, which is what I do on desktop computer.. E.g. I have a Kpop, rnb, rock, ost, electronic, folder

the first problem isnt a problem it will wipe bac to the same screen as many times as you pulled down the window and touched the song now playing panel...everythime u pull the window over is like layering the same screen...and the second one is only if you touch the "lines" at the left of the songs its givin u an option to reorganize your playlist...[as far as i know]
Search for 3 music player.
Hey, thanks guys for the helpful thoughts! I got btunes and I gotta say, its pretty nice. The one thing I actually "like" about Apple being the music management (I'll overlook how bloated iTunes has become). The mimicry of the player is nice and easy to use. Worth $1.50.

Plethora of HD2 Music player woes

Hi guys...
Regretfully I am close to giving up with the HD2 music player. Beaten! Long delays, failure to find any of my mp3s even after retagging... the list of bugs and annoyances is nearly endless, such promise in a phone, such incompetence in the software testing. My last effort was a rushed and irritated email to HTC. Pointless I know but its all I've got, I am now forced to use.... WMP
HD2 Music Player Issues.
I am sure you are sick of these but you are gonna have to read another, please route these to some dev or something, I have already wasted too many hours with this dreadfully realised piece of music software.
I am baffled by HTC. The music player on the HD2 is simply not tested sufficiently. I work in testing so perhaps I am slightly more critical but the list of issues is staggering.
HTC are seriously shooting themselves in the foot, and when I am (frequently) am asked whether I recommend the phone I have to say no, because of the MUSIC PLAYER.
1. Firstly I reported the most incredible 'Genre & brackets bug' on the HTC forums last year and received NO response from HTC. A quick recap, if an mp3 ID3 tag has a ( or a ) in the genre field the music updater stalls FOREVER, yes regardless of tag format etc, its just coded badly. plain and simple, it has 'coded in china and tested in india' written all over it! The updating icon continues forever using up your battery and not updating the rest of the disk. My question to the technical team here is, well why not just skip the file you cant read after some specific timeout, that is 2 extra lines of code and an hugely (but not satisfactory) better user experience.
2. If you have a largish (more than 20) items in a playlist there is a considerable and extremely irritating delay EVERYTIME you go to the now playing screen. Why. Why. Why, who tested this app, who signed it off, how in the hell is it acceptable to have to wait 30seconds to open the music app if you have 400 songs in a playlist, answer dont use large playlists, ok but that leads onto the NEXT huge flaw..
3. When you return to a list (any list), you are always back at the start.. so you just clicked on ZZ Top and you then think oh actually I want to listen to Willie nelson, you are right back at A in the artist list, and it then takes 15 seconds of scrolling to get back to W, why is there no ABCDEG.. index like EVERY OTHER MP3 player.
If it were not for the other dreadful bugs one would have to conclude HTC intentionally crippled this device, what other explanation could there be? Were HTC paid off by Apple?
4. Here is a new one for me, just today I added 500 new Mp3s, to my 16gb memory card, now totaling 1300. Opening the music player sent the CPU to 95% (all manilla) for the best part of 15mins during which time nothing really could be used on the device. When it finally dropped a bit I went in to music player, there are ZERO artists, ZERO albums, ZERO genres but almost all the tracks listed in 'All Songs'. I then allowed the animation to continue for 30 more mins with no change, nothing added. By the way I have rewritten all the id3 tags to various different formats with no affect. I have a feeling that it is stalling on the 1st mp3, what is it stalling on I do not know, is there a log file with errors in it? Can't find one. Again terrible coding, using too much processor, not handling errors, falling over if the format is not exactly as expected. Bad all round.
This is completely unacceptable for a $500 phone.
Just spend a day with and IPod/IPhone and a HD2, that's all your technical team need to do to see what sort of job they have done.
There are loads more but I cannot be bothered now.
It seems HTC have responded to one bug that luckily did not affect me (the stuttering), please can you forward this to the most senior person you know, it really is a joke and whoever does your software testing needs a long vacation and you need to stop outsourcing.
Disgruntled user.

New MANGO for DVP is TOO FAST!!

i just installed it and noticed that MANGO is just waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy tooo fast.
animations are instant as if someone fast forwarded it by 8x.
this is in no way an exaggeration. can anyone who've installed MANGO attest to this?
bootup took less than 7 seconds.
not bad, just amazingly scary.

makes the dvp feel good dont it
is there any issue using mango beta?
Zero issues aside from the fact that this is NOT final in anyway. It is means for developers to test their codes.
Nevertheless, if you are not a developer, I don't see a single reason not to use it since it is 99% functional assuming you're not a developer.
I am not a developer and i haven't found a single thing that does not yet work for me.
**even multitasking works!
(besides risk of brick and legal, but come'on =P)

yeah....Mango is scheduled to finish up end of July. DEV beta is for 2 purposes...get Devs familar...and to catch any framework type bugs that MS misses. Once Mango RTMS....it should be about 8 weeks or so before it could appear on new devices...End of September time frame. When an update will be available...hard to say...I would bet not before end of September...
Great news, cant wait to experience Mango
Just got my developer licensed copy of Mango, and the one that that I noticed is that the volume is louder. I know this because I had NoDo on Monday, while I was on the train I had to crank the volume to 30 just to hear the song (Octavarium, Dream Theater 8:32, not a slow part). However, with Mango on the train I can hear the same song, same part perfectly fine at 15-16 volume.
Also, does anybody have a way to put the custom ringtones on? Custom ringtones was an original release feature of Mango...
I've noticed that while animations are generally very fast and smooth, the stock applications tend to have more loading time than they did before. In NoDo, despite notoriously long load times for 3rd party apps, 1st party apps all popped up and were responsive immediately - with Mango, there's definitely more delay often times, for me at least.
Also, from the dev side, apps unchanged but compiled for Mango have some funkiness to them, but nothing too drastic I don't think. Most were made in the name of better performance it seems, so they're for the best, but can require some changes in the source code.

Strip a audio file using Audacity (or anything similar) to 39 secs or less and less than 1MB size. Save the strip'd file as mp3 or wma to your zune folder (for some reason mp3 ain't working for me using Audacity). Now load up Zune and go to the song that you strip'd and 'edit details'. In the Genre field, label it as 'Ringtone'.
Now copy/sync the song to your device.
You should now see the song as ringtone under Settings->ringtones and sounds. It will be in the top under custom ringtones while choosing it.
Alerts are limited to MS provided tones.
Note: You won't see this ringtone as a song in Zune player in the device.

Thanks man, Sorry to say your DVP Flashlight App is not working now that mango is installed. I used it a lot as the LED is more powerful than I first thought.
Does the current dev build of Mango address any of the color banding / 16-bit color depth issues?
My DVP with Mango is super fast and the boot time is the fastest I've ever seen on any device. My WiFi is still busted though, so once that is fixed it will be all good. I may not even need to upgrade to one of the new phones coming out with Mango...
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
how are you guys upgrading to the Mango beta? I wanna try it on my phone really bad.
I found this tutorial here but Im not sure if it applies to DVP as well?

Oh and also, how did it affect your battery life?
battery life is amazing!
I love mango but I'm having an issue, if I call someone I can't hear anything on the internal speaker. I have to switch to speakerphone to hear them but if they call me it works just fine. Not sure what's causing that issue.
question for the ones that flashed Mango.
Does the camera app finally saves your settings now? and can you turn off the shutter sound off?
Yes and yes.
Headset volume
Is the low headset volume improved?
I believe the headset volume is better, however some will disagree. I think it will be much improved once the firmware + mango final is on the phones.
