Samsung denies warranty repair my phone... - Galaxy S6 General

Hi
I bought the new Samsung GS6 a few months back. I just got it, noticed some pink dots on the front camera, but it was gone next time I used it.
I rooted it and after a few months I noticed that they're there in low light conditions. I sent it for repair and they will repair it for 1962,5 kr. (297.72 USD).
I was told, that warranty in Europe was not void by rooting and have seen many people link to this.

Anyone know what to do? I live in Denmark if that helps.
Do anyone know if it is void or not? I know in my country, they should (in the first 6 months) prove that the fault is made by me if they should deny it. They will change the circuit board and I should pay that myself, because I rooted the phone. The dots were there before and also, how can rooting the phone (with the right root) cause hardware issues since they will change the circuit board?

Most custom roms allude to telling you it voids your warranty, i'm not sure if rooting software tells you that as well. Generally you take your phone in your own hands when you root because technically the phone has been altered which could theoretically cause problems.
I doubt there is anything you can do aside from pay for the repair or refuse it.

They just told me, that they cannot enter the phone, because I have rooted the phone. They said I can not get back to stock, before the circuit board have been changed.

If you used the pingping root method, it doesn't trip knox so you should be able to go back to stock without them ever knowing, however I stand to be corrected if this is not the case.

If you rooted the phone using CF auto root, then you would have tripped Knox and you have technically voided your warranty. However, if you used PingPong root, then Knox protection should still be intact, which means you still have warranty.
What you can if you have tripped Knox is try to go back to stock firmware and hope they don't notice that Knox has been tripped.

I used CF-autoroot. Fixed the link, try read it. I should get it covered. It's barely 3 months old.
It's back to stock, just with tripped knox counter. I unrooted and did a factory reset. Do I need to flash stock rom too? The knox counter will still be 1...

It's not about root. It's about tripping Knox, which voids the warranty - different from root altogether.

It doesn't matter what custom roms say in their disclaimer or what samsung claims, samsung needs to adhere to the local law, which states that simplly rooting does not void your warranty

it's the law that deal with statutory warranty based on EU Directive 1999/44/CE, §7.1, which samsung cannot deny

I did so, they send it to their workshop (or what you call it in english) and they sent it to Samsung, which confirmed the root and now back to me.

you should bring it back and get it repaired and also demand back the money they charged you for inspection but maybe speak with a consumer organization in your country first. Sometimes it can also help to use twitter and facebook to get your right.

Yeah, will try. Can call consumer organization after 9 tomorrow morning, so will try that and see what they tell me.

btw it's not samsung that denies you warranty, it's the shop you bought your phone from, they are responsible for the warranty

Probably the main reason behind not to decide yet to buy it. For me is a BIG ISSUE. I have always rooted my phone, and have installed many ROMS, for me, is a MUST. I am buying a hardware not a software.
95% of mobile device owners don't even know what a bootloader is and could care less. Almost 100% of companies with BYOD policies don't let rooted and unlocked phones on their networks whether or not they have Knox.
You're also confusing Knox for consumers and Knox for business. On the consumer side activating Knox is totally optional and when left unactivated makes the N3 just like all Samsung's previous devices. There are real benefits of Knox to people that don't care about bootloaders being locked. You can prevent the phone from being wiped if it's lost and stolen and can hide sensitive files you don't want people to see in a seperate container on your phone.

In the end, if we are talking only about the loss of the guarantee, it is a fair fee for changing the characteristics of the instrument. After all, no one is saying that the manufacturer refuses to fully service the smartphone - for your money every whim. It's time to learn how to make decisions and to take responsibility ...
Finding about this issue has just knocked the N3 from the top of my upgrade choices. Not happy at all.
Looks almost like a kicked up refreshed version of hboot on HTC devices. Anybody else get that feel?

Rooting voids the warranty. Anyone in there position wouldn't care about the 5% who void their warranty then try to get around it and still have it covered.
So it's harder to scam a company into covering it under warranty? Oh well... we all full well now we are voiding our warranty every time we root.

The Samsung has no obligation to xda. And we have a choice - to lose warranty or shake for it. The validity of that to pay for everything. And the phrase "I do buy the hardware and not a soft" - fundamental error ..

Yes and no. Pretty much all of Samsung's devices have had some form of flash counter in them. Plenty of people who root their devices and don't use Triangle Away have returned the phone for service, and Samsung fixed it anyway. I recall one guy saying has flash counter on his Note 2 was over 100 and they still fixed it without blinking an eye.
The legal side is questionable too - Samsung can put any clauses they want in their warranty agreement, but even if you were to agree to them in writing they wouldn't necessarily be enforceable. I don't know if anyone has ever had reason to test it, but if they refused service on my device I'd be expecting them to be able to justify with reasonable certainty that the fault was caused (at least indirectly) by running non-standard software on the device. I suspect if this were tested in court they would have a hard time enforcing it. In reality the non-rooting clause cannot render the device void of all warranty, but if the software needs to be reinstalled by them because of a faulty flash or to rectify a problem caused by rooting, they can still charge you for that.
Same way Dell can't void the warranty on my laptop if I load Linux on it........

Do not need the bloatware offered by Samsung. Cynogenmod 10.2 is just fine for me.

You do not understand the basic. This technology Samsung KNOX ® has one goal - to tie the device to one particular user. That is, the device will not be a secondary market, as the user can not be removed. This means that the whole story is not vulnerable device, basically ...
p.s. I think that's why this technology has been approved by the Ministry of Defense USA. Or maybe I just being paranoid ...
In the EU rooting does not void warranty. I work at an official samsung cervice centre and we must fix softbricked phones at no cost since the updated licence.

Root Solution without tripping knox counter

Will there be a root solution without tripping the knox counter and how soon do you think after launch??
The phone isn't even being sold yet. Nobody can answer that question until the phone is in our hands.
although what EP says is 100% accurate, maybe worth checking out if something was found on Note 2 (which is no), Note 3, S4, or S5. If none on those, then most likely not on the Note 4 either.

And if you concerned about warranty I would say your on the wrong site . I tripped my note 3 knox counter right after I bought the device and never looked back.

I think that in regards to warranty, Sammy still has an obligation to repair your device. They may charge you for the repair, but I'd say they'd need to prove that rooting was the cause of your problem - say a defective battery or non-functioning sim slot. :laugh:

Well, because not tripping knox is better than tripping knox I would say. What if something goes wrong with your phone that has nothing to do with rooting? I am sure Samsung in that case would also say, sorry, you rooted your phone, there will be charge for fixing this. If I create an unrecoverable brick, then, I would take responsibility for that, however, No one I am sure would want to be responsible for a problem with their phone that had nothing to do with rooting. It was just a question, that's all. I am rooting whether knox is tripped or not.
when you root your phone, Samsung says your warranty ends.
Period.
Your carrier may cut you some slack on a issue that comes up, not related to rooting, but most of them will refuse to do anything warranty wise if you are rooted. Obviously, they have to either ask you, or check themselves.
Over the years, I never had a warranty refused because of being rooted, and when I brought a phone in with a problem, I never volunteered that the phone was rooted, and they never asked me.
But, that might not be the case for you or anyone else.
Sure, if you can root, and not trip Knox, and there is a way to unroot and return your phone to stock in case of service being needed, that is the ideal scenario, but once I root any phone, I always assume my warranty is over, and I think most of us that have been on XDA for awhile would agree with that statement.

Anyone had this happened to them? Half of my screen now flickering, showing weird lines, unreadable stuff, and constantly flickering, and turning off. I can't even keep it on for more than 5 seconds.

All of those are software related customization. This problem I am having is strictly hardware. The AMOLED screen panel is internally damage somehow that cause it to messed up like that.
Flashing, rooting, tripping knox or whatever won't cause this. A lot of people get this wrong and blame on modifying the ROM as part of the cause but one must understand the difference between the 2 before making judgment.

Yeah, I know that.
I meant that messing with the software (flashing, rooting, tripping knox) voids the warranty, and if a hardware problems occurs (irrelevant to your flashing activities), such as in your case, you 'll be left without a warranty (although you didn't cause it)

Oh man! That is killer! I have never heard of them doing that, but I have never heard of such a catastrophic failure on a Samsung tablet That kind of result will make ya a Samsung customer for life!
mine doing the same thing and its rooted so know is voided. i called samsung and they gave me an RMA to ship it back. lets see what will happen

in my experience from years past, nobody that takes these returns really cares about root or custom ROMS when there is a hardware problem. The customer is usually shipped a refurbished model immediately while the damaged unit goes back for repair. By the time it gets to someone whos smart enough or loyal enough to care about root, the customer already has their refurb. when i sent in my droid x2 for repair it would ALWAYS boot to recovery options on first boot, then you would have to tell it to boot normally and it would. i was fine with it but forgot about that when i went to get it repaired....
they asked me "whats that green stuff on the screen?"
me: oh nothing.... *presses -boot normally- button*
"does it do that every time?!"
me: yeah but i dont care
"wow that must be annoying!".
then they shipped it off for repair and i got my refurb.
i dont think manufacturers or service providers care as much about root as many people think. they do a lot to prevent it sometimes but I have never had an issue on getting warranty services on a rooted device.
keeping in mind that none of those warranty services were because of software problems... every phone had something wrong with it physically.
Agreed, most phone warranties are like cars. It under warranty unless the "mod" could have possibly caused the problem.

only now i realize I cannot even use Knox any more, it shows a customer ROM has been installed previously.

No. Knox Flag is permanent or at least no one manage to reverse it since it exist.

The value is defined using an eFuse, its contact is severed by applying high current through it, it is therefore a physical modification of your SOC and cannot be undone.

What does this mean?
"Warranty is easy to repair on the side"
On some devices in the past (the Exynos Note 3 for example) the Knox flag was a software marker. This meant that, once the location of that flag was discovered, it could be reset and a lot of people did precisely that every time they tripped the flag. However, with their newer Exynos SOCs Samsung have since followed Qualcomm's example and gone down the e-fuse route with Knox. So no, regardless of what SOC you're running, once tripped, it's now physically impossible to take your device back to a non-tripped state without a mainboard replacement.

Its more then **** from Samsung, that and the next that nothing new costum Roms are no anymore . If i have buy my S7 i have look first here and have see custom Roms but i don't have see that its only from stock. What is it, that in this time, where I need Root for Firewall or AntiVirus the Knox make the Life hard for costumer?

it will not work on rooted devices no permanent solution found.

Lol as soon as i got my s7e i rooted without even looking into it. But I'm happy with Android pay i guess. Not sure if samsung pay works in the UK right now anyway.
How is the situation regarding samsung pay, if you tripped knox, but still use stock rom without root? I had to unlock because i had to change csc within a multi-csc. Just curious.

In Norway Knox does not affect warranty. I have had two Samsungs (S4 and S5) serviced under warranty. Both with Knox tripped. No problems whatsoever.

S7 edge knox counter reset

Hi, my phone is an s7 edge exynos g935w8 and I've tried using triangle away to reset the knox counter but that doesn't work... So are there any other options?
The only option is app called KNOX disabler. It reverts knox back to 0x0. But your warranty is void anyways

No,knox counter is one time programmable e-fuse,when burned and get status 0x1 its irretrievable,that is the point of knox,more here
I am looking for a nox reset also. F*ck samsung. They dont want to fix my S7 edge flickering screen because of root. YES root made my screen flicker!!

Once you tripped your Knox you can do nothing. It's like peeling off the security label. I'm sure you were aware of voiding warranty with rooting the device

AAAAH!! Finally found a Samsung employee I can complain to. Or the Samsung police? Or just a Malaka fanboy? F*ck Samcrap, my screen flickering is not caused by rooting, and ANYONE who thinks otherwise is not thinking at all.

Samsung police, that sounds hilarious. The only person you can be angry with is yourself. I bet you are a young person that doesn't care about money your parents gave to you to buy this device. Otherwise you woulda thought about consequences or you just don't know yet how the world works. That's how you make money on silly customers. PEACE

Surely everyone knows that your warranty is void if you root your phone. It is classed as mishandling and can cause vulnerable software to be installed.
Your flickering issue may not be caused by rooting but the fact you rooted the phone goes against Samsung's terms of use and therefore they have no obligation to fix the phone for you.
I am rooted myself but when I did root, I accepted the fact that I would void my warranty, therefore I took out insurance that would cover any damage I may get. This is not Samsung's fault, it is your own fault for rooting if you wanted to keep your warranty.

It's pointless imo. The device is still knox-tripped, the phone just shows 0x0 instead of 0x1. I see no reason why this would be useful.
Of course, and by the way I don't have any reason to revert to 0x1 or 0x0 ... my provider/seller will never look at this for warranty
But it would be funny if Samsung accept to repair a 0x0 fake device lol

It's well known that first thing the serviceman will do is flashing Sammy rom which reverts knox back to 0x1 no matter what

You can use knox apps like disconnect , myknox with that with root and custom rom and probably Samsung pay ? They are still testing if samsung pay works . But for warranty , it's useless lol.

I can't comment on other apps but it will NEVER work on Samsung Pay
If Your mainboard is completely damaged they will never know about tripped knox fuse.....

if it's clearly a hardware problem, would they still bother flashing stock? cos that would mean data is wiped after every samsung repair.
