[GUIDE][ROOT] Newest Root Method for LG devices - G3 General

Hi!
This is the newest root method for LG lollipop devices.
Try this method if the original guide or the original one-click guide don't work for you.
Features:
This is a script for Send_Command.exe. Newest LG stock roms hate shell scripts.
With a trick, I found a new way to remount /system in new roms as read-write.
It will install SuperSU without flash nor override any device partition (means: no TWRP nor kitkat stack bootloader in this script).
Tested with LG G3 D855P (20B). But may work with others LG lollipop devices.
Advises:
This method is for lollipop ONLY!
Don't try to run this script if your device is already rooted!
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Pre-requisites:
LG drivers installed.
A lollipop stock rom.
Unencrypted device.
Usb cable.
Confirmed devices:
LG G2
D802 (30D)
D805 (30A)
LG G3
D850 (21Q 21R)
D851 (20E 20G)
D852 (20F 20G)
D855 (20G 20H 20I 20M 20P 20S 20T 20U 21A)
D855K (20F)
D855P (20B 20C)
D858HK (20D)
F400K (20I 20N)
F460S (20M)
VS985 (24B)
LG GPAD
8.0 V490 (20A)
At the moment, not working with:
LG G3
AS990 (20A)
F460K (20J)
LG G4
H815
H815P
My device isn't in the "Confirmed devices" list. Can I try anyway?
Since you are using lollipop, there is no big risk for your device.
But, in the worst case (if your device doesn't boot), you can enter in Download Mode and flash your rom again using the LG Flash Tool. And with the "Normal Flash" option you won't lose any personal data in your device.
Using this root method, there is *NO RISK* (in theory) of your device lose the Download Mode. So, go ahead and try it! And please, don't forget to tell us your feedback! :fingers-crossed:
Ok.... Let's go!
First method: Using the easy way with one-click script.
Script and zipfile maitained by @NBreunig3. Questions about this method should be directed to him.
Download and extract the zip file: http://bit.ly/1Ln9FKB
Then, exec the root.bat script.
Second method: Using the classic way.
Enable ADB debugging
Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information and tap build number until you are presented with "You are now a developer".
Back to Settings screen.
In Developer Options, enable USB Debugging.
Insert the USB cable
Send the required files to the device
Code:
adb.exe push busybox /data/local/tmp && adb.exe push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp

}
Go to Download Mode
Disconnect the USB cable.
Power off the device.
Hold volume up and insert the USB cable.
Find which COM port your device is connected
Look for the DIAG port.
Code:
ports.bat
Run the root installer script
Change the COMx with the correct port number of the DIAG port.
Code:
Send_Command.exe \\.\COMx < root
Send_Command.exe \\.\COMx < reboot
Feedbacks are welcome! :good:

is this TWRP also direct installed ?

Ports.bat doesn't seem to be included in the zip file? Should I be obtaining it from elsewhere?
eidt* I got it from the previous archive. After trying 4 different root methods, this one finally worked for me! Doesn't include TWRP but I just used autorec from the play store.
Many thanks!

Tested and working for D855 20P, thanks a lot.

Working on D855 v20i-eur.

Maybe a issue in serial protocol between virtualbox and your mac.
Please, if you can, try again using a windows machine.

Thank you guys for your feedbacks!

can confirm working for D852 on v20f. Thanks a lot!

Don't work on LG G4 LG H815
Thanks anyway

I can confirm it works on D855 v20g. Thanks a lot!

Does not work with LG-AS99020a 5.0.1
Gosh, I was so excited to try it 'cause a lot of people had success with this :|

Great Job! It works on D855 v20h-HKG!!!
Thx!

Thanks buddy! Finally rooted my Hong Kong D855 (stock 20h)!
I don't know why LG has made it so difficult to root their phones . I've been trying every thing for the last week without success.

D855 w/v20i-EUR confirmed (again)
thanx a lot !!!
the only issue observed so far was with LGBackup. it started to update immediately on phone reboot but stopped with service failure. i don't really care about it but maybe it's worth to mention.

Of course not. This is for LG G3. LG G3 root methods use an exploit where you can unmount and remount system/write. LG G4 had patched that. Check out the LG G4 section of XDA and see if they have a new root method.

Yes indeed
Dowloaded the .kdz file put G3 in DL mode, plugged into PC, used device manager to change port from whatever it was to 41, loaded the .kdz into LG Flash Tool 2014, used "CSE flash" left all other settings as they were and started it going..... took about 5mins and badabadabing brand new G3 again

Hey guys,
I am new to LG devices.
Does this also work on branded devices (G3 16GB vodafone branding)?
Thanks in advance.
should do, you might loose Vodafone boot-screen or any Vodafone bloat.... neither of which are bad
as long as you have a D855 16GB UK G3 you should be fine
That's my goal
My G3 will be a DE version I think. Shipping mid July. Should be fine too?

Does it work with phones locked to a operator.
Can I flash any other ROM for unlocked phones?
I've flashed kdz files twice now but it strikes me that I'm relying on the files being the correct one. How can I tell if I have the 16gb or 32gb version ?
Maybe I didn't explained me the right way.
Is there any problem to flash, this way, a ROM for SIM unlocked G3 on a SIM locked G3?

[Guide]LG One Click Root - root LG firmwares (KitKat / Lollipop)

Hi evryone.
Recently I came across this guide, and it worked fine for me.
So I wrote a tool that basically does the same thing, just make things easier.
This method should work on any LG G3 official firmware (4.x.x / 5.x.x), and on other models too.
Please leave your feedback if it worked for you, and indicate whether you used the graphical user interface or the old script.
And if it's didn't worked, please attach here the log from the window.
Notes
I saw a lot of questions of G3 users about how to install Twrp after the root, so I will explain briefly:
For now, if you are on stock lollipop you can't just flash Twrp via flashify etc like the old days in KitKat, but you can follow this guide over here.
After the root, if you want for some reason (warranty etc) to unroot the phone, all you need to do is a full unroot from the SuperSU settings.
I don't know if this is enough to get OTA updates back, I'm still waiting for somebody else to answer this question. so please don't ask me about this any more because I really don't know the answer.
Devices confirmed working with this method (If your device isn't listed it's most likely still supported)

There is NO working Root method at the moment[
If you want to go back to JellyBean or Kitkat by using Flash Tool select CDMA mode. Thanks to @Die Bruine
Credits; Thanks to @quangnhut123 for LG Flash Tool 2014
Thanks to @sugaritos for letting us know about KDZ
Thanks to @ckret 'If you Select Type CDMA and select CSE Flash you don't have to perform HardReset'
Perfect - it all worked a treat! Many thanks!!!
However, in my haste, I didn't switch off the V500 and set it to "download mode" - but the flash updater does this for you. Also, there's no need to hard reset once flashed - just have patience and wait (and wait) for the tab to complete its background tasks while the static LG logo is displayed (with the occasional "light reflection" animation on the red sphere every now and again...) After a (long) while, the "optimising apps" box is displayed (changing all of the Dalvik runtimes to ART?) and finally gives you reassuring progress feedback as all of your installed apps are processed.
And eventually - voila, Android Lollipop 5.0.2 (English) on the LG G Pad 8.3 (V500) with all my original data and apps still intact!
Thanks again!
Great!!
This version have Brazilian Portuguese Language?
Thanks

Wireless storage and plug and pop removed!
Im looking for a wireless storage app. Can someone help me?
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks for the tutorial! Gonna do this soon.
Also, how do I know where my pad came/manufactured from? I bought my pad "used" so I don't know where it was originally bought.
So I can know what would I download to go back to v20d Kitkat or Lollipop once it's released to what area my pad from.

Well, there's nothing to lose anyway after flashing KDZ. Since I have no warranty to worry about.
I was just making sure that I can somehow return to it's factory ROM.
Gonna flash this after I fully charge my pad and download.
WAU!!
@iko11
Thank you, it works beautifully!
I am glad to see you like this tutorial have fun

The Brazilian G Pad 8.3 community in G+ has been flashing without hiccups. And they came to the conclusion.... A V500 is a V500. Double check your model. If it is V500, flash without fear. Works flawlessly.
BUT, if you are rooted, only CSE Flash and/or hard reset before/after flash will do the trick, which means you lose all your data, so backup first.
Personally, I will skip update 'till a method to upgrade and/or root which doesn't wipe my data is out, I'm not in the mood of backup/restore my stuff - past experiences have not been good and some data were lost forever.
Tnx for the KDZ, but i come in to problem.
I flashed the KDZ, it goes very smoth til the end, but when pad must start up it comes to boot loop where says securty error (Autentication Fail #9)
I doit the factory reset , again flash KDZ but every time ended on this securty error. Can enybody help me?

My LG G6 (H870DS) still not getting oreo?

Am I the only one? Is there any ways to do it manually within warranty limits?
I haven't received the Oreo OTA update too. I have H870DS, unlocked version. I am in the Philippines. I tried using VPN and connecting through the US, UK, and Hong Kong but that didn't work. I hope to get the update soon.
Probably because it's Dual SIM version.

Why would that make a difference?
Don't know. I'm just guessing... I've H870 and got an update ~4 weeks ago.

If you wish to update android 8.0 do flash manually with TWN kdz only (Don't use other region, you will stuck with LG logo).
Google is about to launch Android P to whole world and LG is trying hard to launch Oreo to G6. No prizes for guessing, Google will beat LG handsdown in launchnig Android P first. Ofcourse LG will win consolation prize because LG ensures Android P is delayed to LG devices as a lot of them are yet to be updated to Oreo.
If not fod Quad DAC, I would have said RIP for LG phones! LG G7 is struggling with poor sales due to unreasonably delated Oreo update to flagships like G6 and V20. May better sense prevail at LG for improved software support.
