[Q] Stock rooted Lollipop SD card grief - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the stock rooted Polish Lollipop ROM and am on the verge of going back to Kitkat. The main problem is that many apps do not have permission to write to the internal or external SD card and there seems to be no way of fixing it. Amazon app updates and Tripadvisor cityguides to name but two. I'm well aware of how to grant permission if prompted but these apps never request permission. I've run the Kitkat SD card fix which seems to have sorted out the external SD card but not the internal one. Any offers before I hurl my phone through a window?

Get a custom rom. Crap stock

Tempting but I wanted to keep Knox 0x0

Update - I ditched the Polish rooted stock ROM & tried Alexandr's Devbase ROM & everything works fine now. No more stupid SD card permissions nonsense either.

Take Kitkat update OR keep Jelly Bean ?

Hi all:
this time I see Google insist that any new smartphone should be ships with the latest Android version.
What Google is looking for in KitKat ?
For me I will not update to KitKat !
Because of the following:
"The WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission must only grant write access to the primary external storage on a device. Apps must not be allowed to write to secondary external storage devices, except in their package-specific directories as allowed by synthesized permissions."
That means your microSD card is secondary storage and apps will not be allowed to use it, Google has screwed up the KitKat API as they think there is a big security problem with external SD cards !!!!!
Oh... your SD Card is completely useless, applications will no longer be able to create, modify or remove files and folders on your external SD card. As a for-instance, you can no longer use a file manager to copy files from your computer to the SD card over a network.
in short Google want you to use their cloud services instead of your SD card, I feel like we are going back in time, and Samsung is involved in this game.

Well, my S4 is not rooted , that fix also could miss your phone, I don't know what is the point in having a MicroSD slot, then Kitkat will make it useless !!!
as it is not enough that Touchwize rom taking much of the phone storage, but Kitkat will make things even more hard !!!!
Guys just be aware of what you are going to do with your S4

I would suggest go for KitKat as it's awesome for performance and battery is beastly
Sent From S4 I9500 Crash Rom Final 4.4.2

Foldermount doesnt work on 4.4.2 i9500. Please recommend any alternative.

Hello,
Yesterday, I flashed 4.4.2 stock rom on my S4 i9500 through Odin. I was also successful in rooting it. then after installing titanium backup I uninstalled all the knox applications. now there were no knox warnings poping up all rooted apps were working good. Then I installed most essential root app in my phone called "foldermount". You know being a s4 owner how easy it makes your life when you can transfer all big games to the sd card and no internal memory full issue.
Now the bad part of story starts. When I opened the Foldermount it showed me an error message that To fix the error click okay and reboot the device. After rebooting all apps of phone like gallery, camera, Shealth, filemanager, music etc. Either stopped working or started showing the message that you dont have any internal memory or external sdcard on your device. In settings>storage, there it also said that 0 mb internal memory 0mb external memory. I also tried connecting my s4 to pc with usb storage option. It showed there too that internal/sdcard has total 0 memory.
So basically foldermount had screwed my phones memory. I think it had messed up the partition table of my phone. After that I reflashed my 4.4.2 and tried installing latest version of fouldermount and the whole thing happened again.
Now I have again reflashed the 4.4.2 rom. I think in 4.4.2 samsung has changed some stuff and foldermount is no longer compatible. Now I have also come to know that You cant downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3. :/
Please someone tell me alternative to Foldermount which is working on 4.4.2.
I would also like to know why foldermount no longer works on 4.4.2? is it only samsung's 4.4.2 rom or it also doesnt work on other 4.4.2 based roms.
Thanks!

4.4.2 has sd card write problem. There is a fix for this problem on the forum n then use Foldermount or may be foldermount isnt compatible with 4.4.2. They ll release a compatibility update for it. I havent rooted yet n 8.41 gb is enough as internal!

There is a easy fix for kk4.4 sd write protection issue by adding a simple line into a system file. Just search for it in the forum.

Thank you guys for replying.
I just checked the changelog of Foldermount and found this
v2.6.4
-Updated Portuguese (new translator: extream87), Polish, Latvian, German and Finnish locales. Thank you volunteers!
-All patching menus are scrollable. This should help some users that are not able to see the bottom buttons correctly in these dialogs.
-Fix a rare case where some S4/Note 3 users that update from 4.3 to 4.4 and patch the system using FolderMount leads to the disappearance of the internal/external sdcards.

I think now foldermount will work fine on S4/Note 3. If it still doesnt work then I will try fixing "write_external_storage" thing.
damn...
After using the forums for a long time without registering, just did to point out I had the same problems. Read a lot before flashing 4.2.2, all went well until installing Foldermount... wish I read this one before installing it. SD Card looks empty on phone, but fine on computer, Play Store, S Health, Story Album kept crashing. Ended up doing a factory reset I didn't need, and flashing it all over again.

[Q] Apps are deleted after being moved to SD card!!!

hello everyone
I have been experiencing this issue since I flashed the new lollipop custom ROM "AntaresOne & Alucard24's optimized CM12 builds", and it works pretty well... I have just noticed that whatever I move to the SD card from phone storage gets erased.. i don't know why.. I'm moving the apps from the settings by going to "settings" > "apps" > and I select the app and move it... I've moved an app recently just for experiment, and I rebooted the phone, checked the sd card apps and it says no apps.. so I'm not sure if this is a problem of my sd card or an issue in this ROM.. I've been using this sd card previously and it was just fine..
-please note that this happens only after I reboot the phone and I lose all the apps that were moved and I need to download them again from the play store..
Any idea guys?!
thanks in advance!
I don't know. The GPE lollipop rom I am using doesn't have that feature to move apps to sd card. I heard it's not supported. I'm not sure if on this particular gpe rom or on lollipop in general.
But if moving apps to sd is a custom feature from CM12 then it might still be buggy and thats why they get deleted.
I think you'll be more successful searching the rom thread.
Hi,
It is indeed a bug in CM12, happened the same to me. So, don't worry about it being any problem with your sdcard, I didn't find any solution other than copy the app from the sdcard to the phone as soon as it is installed.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 Moving app+files to SD Card

Hello folks, I just got new SD Card 64GB because the official rom from samsung systems takes about 7GB from the internal storage [Notice: My internal storage 16GB].
So, I want to move almost all of my apps + files to the SD card (not all of them mostly the high size files).
For e.x: I've Mortal Kombat X from the play store when I move it to the SD card only the app is moved but the data stay in the internal storage Phone/Android/obb/xxxx also I tried other apps the same thing!
also I've tried moving the file by my self to SD/Android/obb/xxxx same problem and on launching the game it required an file installation (dowloading)!
My device info:
Model: GT-i9505 LTE
Android Ver: Official Samsung Lollipop 5.0.1
Internal Storage: 16GB
SD Card: 64GB
Root: NOT ROOTED Device
So, is there any solution ?
Thanks for your time guys...
You can try this. However, there is no guarantee it will work, and you assume any and all risks in trying it, including but not limited to bootloops or soft bricks. The app requires root as it needs to be able to pull data files from the /data partition, and you'll need to make a second partition on your MicroSD for the storage space. Certain features require a purchase to unlock.
I will give it a try!
I have just downloaded it from the play store but I think it required a root access!
Is there other way to move files to SD card without rooting my phone?
And what is the easiest way to root my phone
I mentioned that root was needed in my first post on this thread and why it was needed. There's no way to do what you want to do without rooting, so search for CF-AutoRoot on the forums for the easiest way to root.
Okay strephon thanks dude ☺I really appreciate that...

SD card as internal storage - adoptable storage on Samsung galaxy J530f ?

Hi, is there a specific ROM I can use, which enables me to use SD card as internal memory on my Samsung J530f on Android 9.0 preferably? I tried just one custom ROM and rooted the phone with Magix and and downloaded Root Essentials as well, but this is not working. I am looking for a working solution, not for a guess, how it might work... I tried the "maybe" options, now looking for a verified solution... Thanks!

I don't prefer you to do that
Bc which speed your internal storage has is more than any sd card that you use!
This way works for older j5(such j5 2015 that have 15mb/s but i buy sd card with 35mb/s and set it as internal)you can measure your speed by specific apps
And about your problem
Most of aosp pie and oreo roms have this by default, just Google it
or if you use tw rom you can ask your dev to provide this for you(sorry l have different model so i don't have that)
Well
Speed is not an issue. Problem is, that currently i have to move every application manually to sd card, which after update moves back to internal memory. I leave for a week to mountains and am not on wifi and after my return 20apps needs to be updated. I update one, than jave to move it to sdcard as there is no space to upgrade the rest. Now imagine updating 20apps with manual intervention every fcking day. So of dourse i rather sacrifice speed and invest in a fast sd card than manually update very app every time. I was expecting someone to let me know a difect working rom, instead of googling, as on xda i was not able to find a suitable one.

Every Oreo and pie rom has it. If you want a 7.1.1 stock rom port there is also an adoptable storage patch enabler zip.
So basically any rom from nougat upwards has it.
