LG G2 : Unlock the Bootloader? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
So, first, I don't create this thread to explain you how to unlock bootloader, for now, it's impossible, but, today, I was on @somboons' facebook page, and I see that LG G4 has an unlockable bootloader (LINK), so, my question to developers: is there any way(s) to unlock LG G2's bootloader by applying G4's method (or a close method of this one)?
(I don't know if my thread is in the right section...?)

Nope. As you need to be registered as LG developer first and then you need to choose the device you have and copy your imei and device id. I suppose that if the imei and the phone which you choosed doesn't match it will fail guarantee. So for now as far as I know it's not possible. I also suggest waiting for it as LG would soon add also unlock method for other LG device downside of this method is that there is no way back. Once you unlocked it you can't unlock it back and your warranty will be gone. So even if the G2 unlock method is out I still suggest to wait as some dev might come up by identifying the unlock method a way to unlock the G2 without registering your phone to LG and be able to lock it back

Hope to see LG G2 with unlocked bootloader as soon as possible..

Observation regarding the vk410's locked bootloader.

Forgive me if this has been covered already; I did my due diligence and found nadda regarding this. Anyhow, heres the observation: If you take a vk410 and flash that test 4.4.2 kdz to it, you can unlock the bootloader via the fastboot oem unlock command. Then, you can flash back to 5.0.2 lollipop vzw rom and retain the unlocked bootloader. HOWEVER, with fastboot apparently missing or disabled in 5.0.2, it seems impossible to properly test this. So, for sh**s and giggles, I did this, then flashed BACK to the test rom again so I could see the lock status @ the fastboot menu, and presto its still locked. What usefulness can be had from any of this? Probably nothing just thought I would share with ya'll heh
lk410
I was wondering the same question
I have the same tablet on at&t, with the lg logo on the top (at&t variant) and I used the test kdz to go back to 4.4.2.
Also, partition #33 (userdata) was labeled "grow" and I was missing 8 gigs of space. The bootloader on mine was not locked by default tho

This Sub is effin confusing. Need help removing ads on a unlocked bootloader xt1625

1st off I've been on XDA for many years and this Sub-forum confuses the hell out of me. Threads are cluttered with talk over all the variants of the G4 which confused me on what I could do with my device. That being said here is my issue...
I just got a XT1625 G4 and proceeded to try to get the adds removed. Reading this thread. It failed so it said to unlock the bootloader via getting a key from Moto which they let me do and I am unlocked according to the boot screen warning and fastboot info reporting "flashing_unlocked".
I then ran the script again but the device was unable to boot and went straight into recovery with it reporting at the bottom "WE HAVE DETECTED AN ATTEMPT TO FLASH UNAUTHORIZED SW ON YOUR DEVICE. CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR ASSISTANCE." which I fixed by following this thread
Now reading more users say that this device can not have the bootloader unlocked (um mine is) and that amazon/moto have patched removing adds. Not sure what is true so I need some clarification.
Ideally I want to just flash a stock rom with no adds if possible and receive ota updates...can i?
OR remove the adds on the amz rom and get ots updates.
This phone is not for me so i dont want to have to fix it all the time. If this is not possible im going to send this amazon virus infected phone back....
I would honestly spring for the normal xt1625, you can even flash the nougat update on it since it's the xt1643 with a lower camera, no laser focus, and no fingerprint reader.
I got mine at best buy and did unlocks with no issues. It's definitely an Amazon thing. Like my old Moto g on Verizon I couldn't unlock.

Is relocking bootloader possible for H990DS

I have been thinking about rooting my v20(H990DS) and I was wondering if there is way to relock the bootloader afterwards in order to receive the oreo update (if ever released). Also after relocking will I still have warranty or not? I will probably use Dirty Santas guide for rooting.
Any help?
Yes you can relock your bootloader, however, unless you want to lose root, that isn't how you would want to upgrade to Oreo if you want to keep root.
LG phones don't have a knox style indicator to show if (or how many times) the bootloader has been unlocked. I have sent various V20 phones to LG for warranty repair after I bricked them trying to root them -- take that however you like.

Google Unlocked Pixel 3a on Verizon

Hi all. I have been searching high and low for information on this specific question:
Will activating an unlocked Pixel 3a on Verizon disable the OEM Unlock and bootloader unlock capability?
I got a Verizon variant before I realized that there was not way to unlock the bootloader. Bummer. So, I returned it for an Unlocked version from Google, which I just received tonight. I breezed through the setup (without the SIM card) and noticed that OEM Unlock was disabled stating I needed to connect to the internet. So, I enabled WiFi and the OEM Unlock was then available. It would seem that I an now able to follow the unlocking procedure.
My goal is to unlock the bootloader and root, but do I have to do it immediately? My concern is that activating the phone with my Verizon SIM could:
1) Prevent unlocking the bootloader in the future if I don't unlock it before I activate with SIM (research seems to indicate that factory resets will undo disabling OEM Unlock if this can happen if I understand correctly)
2) Re-lock an unlocked bootloader - maybe this is not even possible?
I don't want to mess this up. All the info I am finding are discussions related to trying to unlock a Verizon variant and I cannot find good info on what happens to bootloader unlocking options on unlocked phones that are activated on Verizon. The only reason I may want to delay this process is because I dont have a lot of time at the moment and would rather not rush the bootloader unlock and root process. However, my HTC 10 is in bad shape and need a phone to get through the holidays. I was hoping that I could activate it on Verizon now, use it with its locked bootloader for a few weeks, and when things cool down after the holidays, implement the bootloader unlock and root.
If that is not advisable, what about unlocking the bootloader immediately (doesn't seem too hard and I have used ADB before), and activating without root. Then root later? Any possibility of concern #2?
Can OTA's re-lock a bootloader and prevent future unlocking?
I appreciate anyone's incite, experience, or links to the needed information for clearing this up. Thanks you!
I would advise you to unlock the bootloader asap. If you wait it will be a pain later because unlocking causes loss of data. If you don't care about that, wait as long as you like.
As far as Verizon is concerned, if the phone is unlocked, I don't see how they could possibly lock the bootloader. They may restrict your services but they can't touch the lock status of a device you purchased.

US997 US Cellular/BRIGHTPOINT Bootloader Unlock Solution??

OK so I need some help...
When I originally purchased my LG G6 in June of 2019, I made sure it was a US997 model, but I ended up getting a BRIGHTPOINT version during my purchase. I went through the website to check the imei and the device ID and it gave me the not unlockable status.
After that, I went and decided to update the software manually to US99721e since it wouldn't OTA it and have been on that ever since. Now, I just recently tried while on the 21e software and I was given an unlock.bin code!
So if someone could help me out:
IF you're on a US997 BRIGHTPOINT G6:
-Download LG UP and UpperCut
-Download US997_21e_01_0211-UCL.kdz at lg-firmwares.com (this is the one I'm on, try this one first!)
-Once it's done, enable developer mode, adb debugging, and OEM unlock
-Go through the unlocking process
Please let me know what you find out!!
Is that only for us cellular?

I have a brightpoint LG G6, which I bought as the seller claimed it was an unlocked US997, failing to share it was a OEM phone. I don't understand how this works please can you clarify? I tried the unlocking process and I have to supply my phone information to LG. Their database says it is a brightwell phone and so they won't release the unlock. Are you saying that after installing this ROM I don't need the key from LG to unlock the bootloader?
I have installed Uppercut and LGUP (1.14 as newer versions don't seem to work). I downloaded the ROM and I have the LGUP loaded. It shows the phone using US99721a. I have 4 process options, Refurbish, Upgrade, FOTA upgrade or Phonesettings which is the one to use?
It works! At least I obtained an unlock.bin file from LG. I need to work out which is the best LG G6 US997 ROM and how to load it when my SD card doesn't work. Any help or pointers to useful information much appreciated. For anyone else trying this here is what I found. I downloaded the LG windows drivers and LGUP 1.14 (There are newer versions but these don't work with uppercut. I downloaded Uppercut from XDA website and then you run Uppercut not LGUP. This immediately caused my virus checked to block it as it contains a trojan. I didn't like that but googled to find others had the same issue. There seems to be a way to load the correct file to get LGUP to work directly and I would recommend researching that but I disabled the virus software and proceeded. I used the UPGRADE option in LGUP - you need to reboot your phone into download mode. To do so, disconnect USB cable then Power off the phone completely. Now hold Volume Up then plug in USB cable at the same time. Make sure that LGUP is NOT running when you connect the USB cable and start it once you are in download mode. It loads the ROM very quickly and takes a bit longer to reboot and then it needs time to upgrade android as you have a 6 months newer version of Android 8. Then follow direction on the LG unlock site https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev. You will need to install ADK https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools unzip after you download. LG emailed my unlock code immediately.
Yes, I can confirm that it works with the US997 model now. I already was at version US99721e so I didn't have to jump through the hoops to load this version. I went through the steps to unlock the bootloader via the LG developer website and voila, got sent the unlock.bin file, too.
Now I am pretty sure that I tried that in past perhaps 1-2 years ago and it didn't work, so perhaps LG has secretly flipped a few bits in their database to allow unlocking for these not quite brand new devices.
I just applied the unlock.bin and got the "cannot check for corruption" warning on the boot screen. So this is working - fantastic!
Now have to restore my device from the LG Backup I made before and put on the SD card.
I had tried the unlock last year but I didn't retry before I updated so it may have worked anyway and the update of the ROM wasn't needed. I unlocked the phone and installed Sky Hawk recovery but when that starts it asks for a deception password and nothing I have tried works. I'm not sure if that is a real issue or I can continue safely with flashing a new ROM. Has anyone worked through this issue?

First, when you're in Adroid remove all screen lock mechanisms, you can re-enable it later.
Enable USB debugging, do adb reboot bootloader and fastboot flash recovery with this recovery instead (rel_o2):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-fixes-t3722199
Do the button combo to launch recovery. If you're in recovery, first reformat /data (you have to enter "yes") to get rid of encrption and after that flash the anti-root removal tool mentioned in the post. Then reboot into recovery and then flash Magisk and/or your ROM of choice. Note that I have only used this with stock ROM and Magisk and not tried any custom ROMs, but the thread has plenty of people having also tried other ROMs.
How do you even know if you have a Brightpoint device?
I found out when I tried to unlock. http://mobile.developer.lge.com/
Thanks for the info. I'll dig into this once I know for sure that a version of Android 10 is available to load into the phone.
What I've been dealing with so far keeps asking for a 15 digit IMEI number. My phone only has a 14 digit value.
I pulled box (yes I kept it) and discovered that the IMEI is 15 digits. No idea why the value is the phone truncates the last digit. The site that checks IMEI numbers says that it is the platinum edition: US997PL. Gee, the box says that.
