Galaxy S 5 headphones? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
So I just got the S 5 about a month ago and I was messing around with the box today out of boredom and I saw the headphones. Tonight, I was going to plug them in so I could fall asleep to music but they don't stay in the adapter? I've never had a galaxy before so I don't know if they have a certain way the headphones go in but the headphones that came with the phone don't fit into the phone. Help? ??

Then you probably have fake ones, because the OEM headphones perfectly fit in the S5 without any adapter, why on earth would Samsung give headphones that aren't compatible with the phone ?
And yeah it's just a basic 3.5mm, like most headphones out there

Well they can't be fake if I got them from the Verizon store with the phone.

Are you sure you are plugging them all the way in?
I had a similar problem on my SGS4... but it was me not plugging them correctly...

Yeah you're not plugging them in all the way. It's kind of a new thing, the 3.5 port is harder to plug in to than on previous models. If there's even the slightest gap between the plug's rubber and the phone's 3.5 port and you can see the plug's metal then you're not plugging it all the way in. Otherwise go back to verizon store and explain your problem

Questions belong in Q&A, not General.
Thank you.

3.5mm Adapter for Raphael

I've seen these on eBay for cheap, curious if anyone knew of a reliable online site that had one like this for cheap. The link below is to one on eBay for about $4 shipped, looks like it'd be nice with not too much extra bulk. Also seen ones with a short cord for the same price on eBay and about $14 at other online stores. Might be too small, but thought it'd be cool to have.

Looks like with this you can use your own headset but can not charge the phone at the same time. I am using this one with which you can listen to music and also charge the phone if you want. Check this link.

I have something that looks exactly like that, from Sedio. I got it so that I could use my Shures instead of the cheapo HTC ones.
I have to say that I was disappointed, as the wire is pretty flimsy, and I wonder how long it will last. I cannot imagine it lasting too long. It does work well though.
Don't you guys already have one? My Fuze came with one. I also have a 3mm/USB Elbow like pictured in the original post, that I got with my work motorola flip phone (cheap verizon). I haven't tried it with the Fuze yet (I should).
Does anyone know if you can use a headset with built-in mic with these adapters?
I mainly want to use it with my Shures but wouldn't mind using it with my iPhone headset to make calls with from time to time.

I've seen accessories for the Fuze that plug into it and have a mic on them, and a 3.5mm jack to plug your own earphones in. So I'd imagine whatever headset you get with a built in mic will work as long as it plugs into the 3.5mm jack.

A 3 band headset with mic works (aka original iPhone and blackberry type) but the newer 4 band on the new in-ear ipod headset does not. FYI.

I just received mine and it's awesome.
The size is just perfect and most important: it works
The only "negative" thing is, that the phone thinks that there are headphones connected whenever the adapter is plugged in, even if just adapter and USB cable are connected. But why would anybody connect the adapter, when he/she doesn't use headphones?
Anywhere in Aus?
Does anybody know if you can get this on any other online store other than Amazon? They want to charge me $40 for shipping for a $5 product!
I live in Aus and it's so hard finding stuff like this, it looks awesome.
guyes, should these adapters be plug and play?
I bought something similar for my HTC touch pro and it doesnt work, the sound still plays out of the phone speakers.
what am i doing wrong?

Yes. They're plug and play. If you bought one and it didn't work I'm sorry It's either faulty or you didn't buy the right type. An htc device uses extUSB not a regular usb like the moto adapters use.
This weekend I'm going to a radio shack to buy to do-it-yourself plugs. Why buy these connectors when you should be able to make one yourself? My idea is to open up the headset, remove the standard earplugs and rewire it to a 3,5mm socket (don't know how to call it). Voila, you have your own adapter with microphone too!

You need a female 3.5mm socket, a soldering gun, some patience, and some time. It would take some skill, you'd have to open it up carefully and if you don't solder right, you'll ruin it.

[Q] Xperia Play audio jack issue

Hey guys!
Has anyone else experienced a faulty audio jack on their Xperia Play? The speakers work great, but when I plug into the headphone jack, it sounds very strange, like one of the channels isn't going though. When playing Michael Jackson, I can pretty much only hear the music without any vocals...
Also, I bought it from Best Buy, and apparently they said that they don't cover the phone after 30 minutes of use or something ridiculous like that... I was wondering if there was any way of resetting the minutes usage.
Cheers!

Nope... I've tried 3 different headphones and plugged them in as much as I could. Unless the body has faulty construction and is not allowing me to plug it in all the way.
Have you tried both handsfree and standard stereo headphones? I haven't had any problems with either on my phone but I thought it was quite interesting that the supplied headset didn't work properly in other 3.5 mm jacks where other handsfree sets work.

Loud buzzing from wall charger

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this. I unplugged the wall charger today and noticed it was buzzing. It continued to buzz for about 30 seconds after I unplugged it.
Maybe I have a bad unit? Or is it normal. It takes about 3 hours to charge to full and for it being a 1.2 amp output charger that seems kinda slow. I figured it has something to do with the lithium polymer battery but maybe it's the charger?
Going to bed now but I'll try to get a video recording of the buzzing noise in the morning.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Would it be more like a "whining" sound from an internal capacitor discharging? I recall hearing that sound as well, when I switched off the charger and unplugged my phone. I think my previous HTC charger had that sound as well.
My OEM gnex charger does this but it's going through a UK adapter also
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm pretty sure this is actually a fairly common trait of mobile device chargers, and it has something to do with the rectifier(?) used to change the current from AC to DC to charge the phone. It shouldn't buzz at all when you have the phone plugged into the charger.
I simply remove my charger from the wall when the phone is not plugged in. I save a (minuscule) amount of energy this way, too.
FWIW my charger buzzes like crazy too (UK).
did anyone request a replacement charger from Google or is everyone just accepting it for what it is?

It's normal. My Gnex charger does this as well. There was a thread in the Gnex forum that discussed this and I believe it was said that it was the capacitors making the sounds which is why when you unplug it the sound goes for another second or two before fading away.

I thought I was hearing things until I put my ear up to the charger. It's definitely audible from a distance...but mine isn't high pitched. The buzz I'm hearing is almost a tiny motor as odd as that sounds.

Micro USB cable for power and audio out

Does a micro USB cable ---> car charger power + audio 3.5mm connector exist? Coming from the iPhone I had such a cable that was convenient, only 1 connector to plug in the car, not to mention that with 2 cables on the N4 it would be very weird, power at the bottom, 3.5mm jack on top, at least they could have put them on the same side ... While my car has bluetooth, it doesn't support A2DP, my only option is audio through a cable into the AUX in.

You might want to double check that the Nexus 4 has proper USB audio capabilities. The Galaxy Nexus never did, and as such, using the headphone jack or Bluetooth were the only options. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any USB audio for the Nexus 4, but then again, I've never tried or researched.

my S4 headphone jack experiencing sound distortion...

I got my S4 few days, since my car able for Bluetooth audio, so its working fine on my car, but today I took my car for service, and I am using my s4 with aux cable on the loaner car, I found out that the sound was terrible, with lot of noise distortions, with it. when I back to office I am testing the aux cable with iphone 5, galaxy note II, and galaxy S4, only S4 have problem, and then I test it on my wife car, same thing, I guess I have a defective S4, does anyone having the same problems?

Well I bought my phone from Best Buy, they have a 15 day return policy. I was on day 16 but they were kind enough to swap me for a new phone. I also have their Geek Squad protection so I could have gone that route as well. From the article it looks like its hit or miss on which handsets are affected. The new one I got is not affected and has no headset static unlike my old one. Guess I got lucky.
Great success!

That would make sense as the distortion effect apparently has to do with the impedance on audio devices. Low impedance devices are experiencing the issue. Find out what the Ω Ohm measurement is on the headphones from meelectronics. I know the Apple headphones are Ω23 so it is higher impedance thus not experiencing the issue.
Mine breaks I had to clean with proper alcohol the jack port and connector. No issues so far since then. I'm worried that would be damaged!

Did the new one exhibit the same issues? This is supposedly an issue that effects any and all GTI9505 variants. Whether or not you hear it depends on the setup you use to listen to music off of the device.

Was the phone being charged? If so, that for some reason is the source of the problem. It worked on the galaxy s4 and LG G2.
