Best Recovery For G900F - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a slight problem i am using Philz recovery and when i try to flash a ROM it shows me the Android Logo in the middle of the screen and i cannot see anything else. For instance in Aroma Installer i can see it in the background, but the logo doesn't disapear and i cannot see what is behind the logo and the screen shows lines from top to bottom.
So my question is whats the second best recovery. Cheers guys

Second best?
TWRP is No.1 in my books
Not sure why you put Philz touch at number 1 if its not working properly

I seen that this or CM was good, so i tried it and it doesn't like my phone is guess lol
So i will go and put TWRP on.
Thanks for heads up

lol, I've been using TWRP on different devices for years, really great recovery, very powerful with a nice big touch UI

[SOLVED] Boot animation missing.

Well, usually when I boot my TMN 2.1 ROM, I see a TMN splash screen and then the regular Android boot animation with the glowing text.
However, from day before yesterday, this is not happening. The TMN splash appears and the screen goes blank. Then after some time the regular Android text animation appears and immediately loads the launcher/home.
Everything appears to be working fine. Even the time taken for boot looks normal but the screen suffers a blackout for some time during the boot.
Any idea how to fix it or why this happens?
In my lg gt540 reference thread in developers part there is a post about possible solutions when you brick your phone, check it out, hope it helps!
hi lavero, i just wanted to ask which app you use for customizing your phones visuality like launchers, widgets, etc. i couldnt able to pm you cause im at the school now and gives problem with pm'ing.
sorry for my english.
@lavero: The phone is not bricked. :/ It works fine. Only boot animation is missing.

Check if you don't get to see recovery too. If so then is bricked but not big deal just check my thread and do what is in there
Now if you manage to get in recovery try flashing boot.img again but always erase then flash. What was the last ROM you flashed?

Am in the stock ROM with fastboot. The ROM used to work fine. I installed a few apps and ubuntu(from nexus one hacks)... The recovery works fine too..
The boot animation(Android logo) is stored in boot.img? Not in system.img? Looks like I will need a bit of tinkering to extract boot.img from the kdz.
Anyway, thanks. I could just try a clean flash. Restoring apps is the only pain since I use link2sd. I should've made a NAND before that day. :/

Question about CWM vs TWRP

I am real new to the KindleFire community but so far loving my Kfire. I see in slot of posts they say to use TWRP to install or update a ROM. Since I have CWM installed can I use it instead are they interchangeable for installing files?
Hope that make sense.
Thanks
Rod
most people are taking about twrp because it was the first recovery for the kf
cwm is quite new for the kf
you can use both to install roms ...
Cwm is able to be updated by current developers. Twrp looks cool, but just needs to be updated. If someone updates the reboot wrappers it'd be a winner. But I do like and prefer cwm

yeah twrp is dead for our device. cwm is still alive though

Is there or link or how-to to swtich from TWRP to CWM? Does CWM have all the features as TWRP? I have been using TWRP since I rooted the KF, have used it to back up, flash new roms to try out, flash back to my backup. CWM does all this, just dosn't have the nice CWM interface?

The easiest way is to use THIS method, just be sure to unzip the file on your Kindle rather than on a computer or it may not work correctly. The only difference I've noticed between CWM and TWRP is that CWM does not compress the backup so the file is a lot bigger, my backups used to be in the low 500mb range and now they are in the low 800's.
Any particular reason to migrate to CWM? I have TWRP from the first day ant it doing a job very well. So, did CWM have any new features?

Development should be the main reason imo I think the interface looks way better. I got annoyed by the flickering backlight with twrp. It does all the same things, but cwm looks better. Plus before I switched, twrp wouldn't flash roms or gapps all the time, it would get stuck and I would have to reboot

For me there was not a reason to use TWRP as I have been using CWM for the last several years on smartphones and was more comfortable with it. I also read several articles where people had issues with TWRP so with as much problems as I was having trying to root my kindle because of USB driver I wanted to stick with something I know. So I thought it best to stick with and old friend I was used too. Not saying one is better than the other I just like CWM better for me and think it gives me more options to perform operations on my phone and kindle.

How have the pros and cons changed with the intro of TWRP 2.1? I am currently using CWM touch but prefer the TWRP interface, but don't want to sacrifice any features.

all the reboot option in twrp are still broken so Cwm is still the way to go and mabe im ocd but i like haveing Cwm on my phone and tablet plus you dont have to worry about accidenty hiting reboot to recovery and being in a boot loop
different versions of CWM touch?
I just switched from CWM touch (DooMLorD) v1.0 Final to v5.0.2.7-kf1.5 I was wondering what the differences are? I tried the Change UI color feature, but it doesn't seem to work, just stays red. is there something I'm missing? and what else was changed?
its just cleaned up. not sure why it wont change colors, works fine on my device I tested all the colors when I posted the screen shots.

I installed it and changed it to cyan with no problem! Thanks!
PS, not to resurrect a dead issue, make sure you use Root Browser (if you used Root Explorer it may not have updated check the version).

Hmmm....I followed the instructions to the letter, even retried it, then rebooted, no luck, installed TWRP, rebooted, reinstalled CWMT 1.5 still no luck with colors. It's not really a big deal, I'm just Being kinda OCD! Everything else about it work perfect though....
P.S. I realize this probably belongs in the DEV thread, but I can't post there yet YAY For Noobs!!

Download flashify and choose reboot to recovery.. Or you can use any app that has a reboot to recovery option. And yes you are good to flash.. Make sure you make a backup tho lol

[Q] Stuck on LG logo

I recently purchased a lg g2, the korean variant f320s, it was running kitkat with a lot of bloatware on top. I successfully rooted the phone and after that i found a cwm recovery installer for this version of the phone and i hooked up the phone and ran the installer on my pc, it finished installing and the phone rebooted into the custom recovery which was in chinese i went into a menu option and then pressed the back button on the screen and the phone instantly rebooted and got stuck at lg boot logo. Is there anyway to fix this? i have tried wiping cache, dalvik and factory reset from the recovery that i can access(chinese or something) but to no avail. I can access the download mode but my pc does'nt recognize the phone and this step is crucial for i guess installing the stock rom through lg flash tools. The phone however is recognized when im in recovery and i plug it in but it only shows as a drive that is faded out and entering it shows nothing. please help me i just got it two days ago

Yeah you just need to flash a different rom through the sd card i tried cloudy rom but it didnt work then a i tried Lamhoang rom and it did the trick im on jellybean now though and i'll try flashing something else in a month or so
ALL FIXED
You are a legend!! Device back up and running.
Okay so I installed that same rom you did but the home/back/menu buttons weren't working so not wanting to muck around, I did some quick searching (which I should have done before >.<) and worked out how to get the Cloudy roms working on a korean device.
You need "Philz cloudy f320 recovery", the kitkat baseband and the rom. LINK
1 - Install the new recovery from zip and then boot back into recovery after this. You will now be greeted with philz recovery which is awesome.
2 - From here, proceed to install the rom as noted on the rom page.
This process worked for me for the Cloudy G3 V1.3 rom.
Thanks a lot for your help!! happy to return the favour! But i am hoping the above info already does that. :victory:

Good to know you got it working again i still cant figure out why this problem occurred in the first place why did the phone brick from the recovery when the recovery was working fiblne after? Also i can just get the new recovery over the one already on the phone without removing the previous one right? Thanks for the info im gonna try out the cloudy roms soon
I have no idea.. something to do with that chinese recovery I am guessing.. There are still a few issues I am going to address but for now my phone is 95% working.
The only issue is that if I try go into download mode, it still doesn't go to the second screen (All i get is the small blue dots). Bit of a pain because that's something nice to fall back on if you ever need to.
I'll search around and try and figure these out in the next week or two, but I am happy with what I have for the moment.
Yep, you literally install the new recovery over your current one and then you can restart phone back into your rom and then reboot back into recovery using an app or the button method.
