[Q] Is the camera quality of galaxy s3 neo same as that of original s3 especially in - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I didn't see any in depth camera review of s3 neo in youtube, but I've checked some of video sample where I noticed some pixelaration while moving the camera. But when I searched for original s3 samples it seems to be pretty ok.So pls tell whether there is any change in camera clarity in neo coz apart from certain HW changes, these 2 handset are almost similar in look and specs.

Searched for hours for any in-depth info about camera (sensor type & size, pixel size, iso values...), but couldn't find anything beside f-stop (f/2.6) and focal length (3.7mm). Those two values are the same as on Galaxy S3( check on devicespecifications . com).
I guess I'll have to try getting info from local Samsung customer support via live chat, and I recommend you to try that too.
Can you please post links to aforementioned videos here?

Hey,thanx for ur rply. Link for the s3 neo sample: { well xda says I can't post outside links upto 10 posts, U just googleit with search term "s3 neo camera sample" and U''ll get one with 0:50 length shot infrnt of a sea and pebbles arround there post by some Arindo Vlore}
also see the comment section there. Overal the video looks good( natural colors & all that) but U can see those annoying blocks dat makes it dirty.I don't think galaxy s3 has any such camera issue.

Xperia P-Camera Samples!! Superb quality!! can we import the camera drives?

Hi all,
after so many post regarding our xperia 8mp camera low quality- look it the new xperia p camera samples here:
http://www.ixbt.com/mobile/sony-xperia-p.shtml
another sample:
http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62213636/DSC_0031.jpg
http://mobilenet.cz/galerie/sony-xperia-p-82599/clanek-9207
Sony finally fixed the compression, lake of small details, strong sharpening problem
the photos are more like iPhone 4s now -clean and full of detail with no more aggressive post processing
is there any way to import the new camera drivers to our 8mp xperia devices?
Well I guess we would run into some big obstacles.... as much as I know the qualcom drivers are responsible for the bad quality output of the pictures.
Since Xperia P is running on the Nova Thor SoC the device gets better picture quality.
Look into this thread for more information concerning the related libs that need to be changed for better camera quality:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309080
wow, amazing picture quality.
like pro camera
Excellent picture, wish we could get something like this with an update from Sony, or by modding from out great developers.
Damn, is this really a phone camera, looks so neat.
I think we should first know wheather the senser on ARC is the same to the senser on P
if it is we can import it on it by modify some place in the camera.apk
also we can choose the ISO
It sounds really great!
Damn, zoom in 100% on this picture, and it still looks sharp!

yes- and real natural sharpness (lens) and not crappy software sharpening like on our phones! and full of details!!
so qualcom is to blame! (crap post-processing!)
wow so much better than arc's camera, I'm 100% sure it's a different sensor
*JELLY*
It's the compression. With good lighting 2011 8MP camera's make good shots too.
Here are some pics I made with my Neo:
http://minus.com/mxCtiKuyk/1g
infairness to Xperia P, picture quality is mere like with the iphone 4s... hmmp...
The Iphone 4S picture quality is still one of the best for smartphones, and the sensor in it is similar (or the same) to the one we have in Xperia Arc.
Wow first of all this forum looks great if a little daunting.
If you'll permit a noob's questions who doesn't know anything about modding Android or any other OS for that matter, (I've searched the forum for similar questions but couldnt find anything):
I'm currently looking at buying a new phone and my top two conflicting priorities are camera and price. So I gather there's something wrong with the Arc's processing that the Xperia P doesn't suffer from?
I've currently got an Xperia Ray coming through the post but have discovered I could get a Xperia P for around about the same price. Are the differences in spec (and camera) worth me returning the Ray?
Or should I not be so Sony loyal and look for other brand mid/upper range phones? I can get the Galaxy SII for a little bit more, but if the camera difference is negligible I'd rather save the money.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

im a hobbyist photographer
i'm wondering, perhaps you(or someone) could do a well set up test of the camera of the note 2? i'm curious about the performance as mine is yet to arrive.(eta 1 week)
test setup example:
a full size(detail) daylight, shimmer, shimmer with flash, night and night with flash, macro and distant would be nice to see a comparison of, and if you have one, a reference card (i.e. contrast and color range) ISO range test (noise) and is the white balance with flash alright?
all this information would be nice to have available (perhaps post results to wiki)
Anyone else notice pictures and videos coming out dark?

Performance
Could you also comment on the performance of the camera in terms of shutter lag and speed of camera app launched from lock screen?
Here's a HDR mode shot
And a lil standard pic
Thanks for these, although they are downsized quite a bit from the fullres originals they look very good with sharpness and few if any visible artifacts common to cellphonecameras. Except for the second image which has a blown out sky and a bit strong contrast on the chrome parts.
Keep the pics coming, i wanna see more!

A few more randoms from work i just snapped
Thanks for the photos guys, please post more...I can't wait to get stuck into my GN2!
Wow those are crisp and sharp! it seems to expose pretty well. This is exciting news!
I see some colornoise in some images, but it's not bad at all..

More images please... I'll be posting a few as soon as I have the phone.

Looking good Twistedchild420, thanks.
Thanks guys^^^^^^
Here is a gem from earlier
seems like the Note II's cam firmware tend to overexpose and wash out the colours a bit by default.
unless u do some further tweaking in settings like what OP did, then u should be able to get good photos. I think a cam fw update is required to improve the image quality. I will judge again when there's more sample pictures (shot in default auto settings).
Not mine, but from Note 2.
Here you can find many Note 2 vs Galaxy S3 and some Note 2 photos.

Can someone please find photos of display, up very close? for V.small text?

Not a single review has produced a picture like this yet
http://photos.pcpro.co.uk/images/front_picture_library_PC_Pro/dir_327/it_photo_163531_52.png (but that's old)
I want to see the S3 vs S4 display on REALLY small text.
Check out this website on the phone, scroll to the bottom and choose "full page" http://www.theage.com.au/ the 'non mobile' version looks like crap on an S3 due to the pentile DPI being not high enough. - I'd love to know the S4 vs S3 on ultra fine text.
Unfortunately NO ONE is taking shots like this in review, sigh

I may be getting one ahead of retail release, will try and get those photos. I cannot believe that at a DPI of 441 anything is visibly noticeable to the naked eye, so for myself I'm not getting hung up on this.

Your effort would REALLY be appreciated - no damn reviewer online is competent enough to do it.
Ideally
S3, S4, Iphone 5 and HTC One all at similar range on the same web page- specifically the S3 vs the S4 though, as they are such comparable phones.
I've heard people speculate pentile can be as bad as "40% worse" then same DPI of a normal display
So 1920x1080 - 40% = only 1152x648
Food for thought
(I've also heard 20% worst, 25% worse and 33% worse)

I wouldn't say it's worse in a percentage like that
it still has 1920x1080 blue and red subpixels, it just shares the greens as far as I'm aware of

Doesn't have a good camera and definitively no macro mode, so it might not help, but here is my two cents:
- picture from S4 hpics.li/edae2bd
- picture from HTC One : hpics.li/c745d54
- and the same on S3 : hpics.li/bcb10ce
[Sorry, not allowed to post attachements and/or URL, so copy paste]
My own opinion: can't seems to distinguish any pixel on S4 and One, but as screen is brighter on One and less blurry, seems better.
PS : whole screen just to see how small it is, so very difficult to read with eyes : hpics.li/5e304c3
[Edit: Use copy paste in browser to see pictures. If someone can make a post with inner pictures, feel free to do this]
I really liked the sgs3 display. It wasn't the brightest, nor the sharpest, but any pixelation caused by the pentile layout seemed to be very round and subtle in comparison to pixelation caused by rgb pixels... maybe just me though.

Hey thanks man - pics a little shabby due to no proper camera - but got most of what Iwanted answered. The improvement from S3 -> S4 is huge, even if the one is a bit better again, the S4 looks much more usable.
If anyone else can nab some more ultra fine text shots like that with a camera camera, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks man
Right around 4:05 this video shows you a decent shot of the sub-pixel arrangement but nothing stellar. I'm sure as time passes we will get this content.

Actually looking at it extensively the colours on the S4 look much worse than the S3 - is the S4 set to low brightness mode perhaps? It's definitely crisper and more readable and less over saturated (good) but almost excessively dull.

Yeah I've seen that one before - thanks - but it's actually too close to be honest, you can't really get a good idea of the quality - whereas the other photos in this thread are much more user friendly - close to what the limits of human eyesight can see, that's good / realistic for every day use.

It was set to Auto + 5 for brightness. I took a new pic at high brigthness. And please note that software isn't final yet, so you'll have different settings in final software. Color accuracy might be adapted. And I'm quite sure it will differ from my sample.

Two more pictures with my no-macro camera as close as possible.
S4: hpics.li/7ed6128
One: hpics.li/1b76d3c
One full width, just to notice that it shouldn't be a problem on both handsets, even at 5cm of the eyes : hpics.li/2182e11 :cyclops:
Definitely appears to be a superior screen to the S3, no question. I'm pretty convinced I'm snapping one up - thank you!

Galaxy Note 4 Video Quality

This is for anyone looking to get the Note 4 and wanted a sample of the Video quality. The video is done though the Note 4, and nothing was modified or changed in anyway.
You can also get a few photo samples here: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Camera Samples So far the phones camera is awesome in my option.
Mod Edit: closed as a duplicate.

Camera performance under low light

I found this video on youtube showing samsung galaxy s6 Edge under low light, the results are just awesome, The video also shows comparision between samsung galaxy s6 Edge and note 4 and you can clearly see the diffrence inspite of both using same shooter

Amazing
what if the camera he is using to record the youtube video actually making environment seem darker than it actually really is? :silly:

In the BGR shot especially s6 camera does not show anything better than note 4 can do currently.
f1.9 might help a faster shutter by 3-5 frames / sec indeed, but the post processing is still off ... same as note 4 i.e. extra softening of the image to reduce noise.
EDIT: In the German article "Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: Die Kamera bei Low-light auf den Straßen Barcelonas ausprobiert" the bicycle shot between Note 4 and S6 is completely off as both are taken at different angles thus different metering and exposure results along with different set of details too.
However only found one conclusive proof and that was the in restaurant food shot. I detail checked the photos and I can confirm that Samsung has improved the post processing in S6 to a bit. Less softening and slight increase in noise has enhanced the clarity of picture. The new hardware f1.9 can seem to lighten up darker areas as well which is good but the best they have done so far is increasing the clarity by letting in a bit of noise intelligently in the post processing. Exactly this is causing 80% if the goodness here.
As far as Note 4 & iPhone6 goes, only difference that I can see is iphone is allowing much less light absorbed on sensor than note 4 by using a faster shutter by 4-5 frames and also lesser softening of the image with a bit of noise left that helps in a sharper looking picture but a darker one. Note 4 has much much more light absorbed onto the sensor thus illuminated picture but very soft look due to de-noising and then extra sharpening filter applied as well to over come it which in turns produces aliasing on the lines/borders and artifacts here and there
wow!
I got my first Iphone 6 at 3 months ago, before that i always had a Samsung made....and the iphone 6 is so boring and the low light pictures is terrible I don't like it at all!! I am so exited to get a samsung galaxy s6 edge and back to android!
Unbelievable!!!
No need for camera now.I found the curved water line on the wallpaper resembles a dancing woman. has anyone found that too?
Info
Hmmm It s the best performance i v ever seen...
