Well I haven't found too many other apps in the normal Market that aren't in the ATT one beside the Tethering software. Then again turn the phone to Airplane mode while on a Wifi network and you are no longer filtered by ATT so you can install what ever you want as long as you have root.
Lol...apparently ATT blocked a game called Toss It by Boolba Labs because theirs an option to toss an iPhone into the trash can. Lol.
Is it..."legal" that ATT cab filter apps they choose?? I mean they're already blocking installing third party apps. I mean what "legit" reason could they come up with?
swype has to be sideloaded
i'd be more concerned with removing the junk at&t wants you to have rather than putting stuff they may not like on there!

Is it Legal?! HA ha...They (ATT) can do wahtever they want. Lock that ***** down..You dont like it you can not buy it...
Or buy it and tell ATT to KISS OFF by rooting it and flashing another ROM.... That's Legal, too!!!..I have Liberated b005. Took me all of 5 minutes..
Ok so rooted my G2(first rooted phone ever) and installed Titanium Backup and Auto Hide Soft Keys. Any other apps you guys can recommend?

I'd suggest the tweaks zip that allows you to choose a handful of cool ones. It's in the development thread.

Greenify. Viper 4 Android. Busybox. Astro file manager. Read about tasker it's hard core programming but it can do anything using almost any triggered event.

Can we assume you don't want to go all in and install TWRP and a ROM like Cleanrom 1.1? Do you want to keep it completely stock, just with root?
Since you're rooted, I would at least remove the so-called bloat apps put there by the carrier by using a script that will remove it. That would be found in the development section of the G2 forum.
Better yet would be to install TWRP and then go for CleanROM 1.1 which does the debloating and much more.
In addition, there are a few UI tweaks that are nice and can be found around the forums. I suggest poking around these forums while it's still small and seeing what might strike your fancy.
To recap:
1. Root
2. TWRP --> then good idea to backup
3. CleanROM 1.1 or at least a debloat script which will remove junky carrier apps
4. Remove softkeys
5. Tweak UI stuff ( remove brightness slider/volume slider/shrink notifications/navigations/ that sort of thing ) -- search forums for the tweaks you like
6. Turn off Carrier IQ -- there is a thread for G2 that shows how
7. Xposed Framework -- not totally necessary at this stage but why not take a look, eh?
For myself, the first six are a must. But, the first five I recommend since you already turned to the dark side by getting rooted. :highfive:

Baby steps for now, I might load a different ROM later, until then playing around with stock rooted. Can I unroot if I ever have to?

Yes you can. There is always a way to unroot any device, you just have to search and find the proper method.

Hi everyone,
Just got my G2, D802 today. It got released in India, the country I belong to, today. The phone is brilliant, no doubt about that. The first few things negatives I have experienced in the first couple of hours of use are:
1. The phone earpiece is not up to the standards of a flagship, its week.
2. The same has to be said about the phone speakerphone.
I'd love to hear the experience of everyone else using the device.
I'd like to root the device & get rid of the bloatware as well.

Congrats for the phone, where did you purchase it from? which model 16/32 and how much did you pay for the same? What Bloatware are you talking about? can you name few, since it is a international variant and not carrier specific, i wonder what bloatware could be added.

Hi Buddy,
I am from Durgapur, West Bengal. Purchased the phone from the Distributor directly who billed the phone to one of his dealers who in turn billed the phone to me. The phone is 32GB Version. I paid INR.42300.00
By Bloatware I mean the unwanted features/apps for me like the LG Smart World app, Slide Aside feature & then the QSlide feature. I want a minimal ROM on my phone so that I can enjoy maximum free RAM & system resources which are you know eaten up by these apps & features.

That... Is a brilliant idea. Hm, can't find on store. Is it an xposed mod, or just an app? I don't want to flash anything..
Edit: All I find on Play store is this, but is there really no option to run it from the bottom edge? Guess I'll give it a shot.

Not interested in other launchers though. I went with Auto Hide Soft Keys. Seems to work fine.
Problem is that when I'm using Pie Control there's a delay for when I hit something. Like just going back, and it takes like... 0.5-1 second before it respons. Is this a bug or something that everyone has?

Hi all first lg phone ever.always been a htc fan.as my contract was up this month. i decided That the htc m8 was not worth the upgrade from my m7. So here i am a proper LG phone virgin
me too, just joined this sub-forum, coming from the Nexus 4 end. Gotta say this G3 is a step up from the Nexus. Just got to figure a way out to delete all the LG crap, especially the McAffee anti virus. Anyone know how to get shot of unwanted apps, was easy with the nexus.

Disable it. Settings-Apps-find the app, click it-hit Disable. If you cannot disable it, then you will have to root and freeze it with Titanium.

I have already disabled a few apps but I want to delete them totally, they are just using space up. Cannot root as my two banking apps will not run and neither will Sky Go

I don't believe you can without root. You could root, remove them, and use a root hider for the apps that won't work with root.

root doesn't break apps. Root is just a permissions thing. IT's like gaining admin access and nothing more. Unless I'm sorely mistaken about some unique thing with the G3 root exploit I've never heard of root breaking an app.

Well there are several apps that don't work with root.
thats strange because I haven't noticed. I rooted my G3 as soon as I got home with it and I didn't have any apps break due to it. I don't use all the apps though and froze a lot of them. Perhaps the ones it "breaks" are those I don't use. Can you tell me which apps having root breaks because I'd like to check that out because in almost 4 years of rooting my past 5 phones I've never encountered root breaking an app.
Isis/softcard can read if you can get root permissions and displays an error message, but if you use rootcloak from xposed framework, it'll run just fine.

Yeah you can. All you gotta do is, root with Stump, get superSU from playstore and then get titanium, do what you gotta do and then go to superSU and "Unroot".
That option deletes root. Goodluck

well the two main ones for me are Halifax Banking and Sky Go. Also the Barclays banking app will not work. When you try to run them you get a message saying "Sorry we do not support rooted phones".
As it happens I have now moved a few apps to my SD card so have freed up a bit of space which was my main reason for my original post, I rather like the LG way of doing things, much better than Sense and definitely better than TW, so might just keep it stock :good:
Also my first LG phone been 4 days and I love it!! First thing I did was root with Towelroot the easiest I've ever rooted an android. With root everything is the way I want it now and so much less bloatware then my S4 had.
Really happy with this phone and quickly got use the buttons in the back which I find much easier.

Banking apps, not all but the ones I use don't work plus sky go.
I bought my Galaxy S7 Edge a week ago and rooted immediately. I just noticed today that I actually don't have ANY Sprint apps on my phone. This is a mixed blessing... most of them are bloat but some I'd like to have, such as Voicemail (I have no voicemail app right now) and maybe SprintZone.
Is this normal for root users? Or was this because I didn't go through all the setups prior to rooting my phone?
Is there a way to get the apps I need back (or get them from Sprint)? Sprint's website wasn't helpful in getting an answer... and I would search more here on XDA but their search is down right now.

I need Voicemail. I probably want SprintZone. If I even knew what was supposed to come with the phone I may want one or two others, but the voicemail is the biggie.
I'd also like to know if my immediate root played a role in not getting the Sprint apps... for future reference.
Wait. I just "found" Voicemail... it was disabled. Several other apps are disabled, too.
I think I'm alright for a bit until I can figure out what I'm doing.
Most of sprints app are NOT in the play store but baked in the actually stock rom. You'll have to search around for the apk's if you can't find them on your rooted phone.

Many of Sprint's apps are downloaded as part of the activation process, so if you didn't go through that process, it would explain why you don't have them.
I am seeing some apps I am not familiar. All the LG stuff, voicemate for some examples. Has anyone got any input on what is good to freeze and what is not so good? Thanks.
It's up to you. Some can't. Others give warnings when you do. Some don't. Experiment. Doesn't work out for some dumb reason factory reset.
Trail and error.. also google it if u not familiar with it or it description.
Yeah and it seems each carrier version and unlocked is very different.

Don't de-bloat,just disable,at least until we have a fully functional TWRP backup to fall back on to restore w/o any data loss.
If you're rooted,use either Titanium Backup or SD Maid Pro to freeze/disable unwanted bloat.
I'd start with all the carrier garbage & any unwanted Google Apps,but,leave any pre-installed keyboards or Home (launcher) apps alone.
You could probably freeze some of the LG apps,but,I'm not gonna speculate on what's safe to freeze,especially since we're in uncharted waters w/Android Nougat.

Agreed. Im unfamiliar with some of these apps so im not freezing them. I dont want to loop it somehow. I did the basics but hopefully we will get a better explanation of what some of these do in the near future. Ill research what i can and post them.

I'm sure you can disable anything that has the option out-of-the-box,without any worries.
There's not much you can disable w/o root,YMMV depending on which carrier/model you have.
I'm not seeing too many LG apps that can be disabled,but,I'm good w/that,for now anyway.
The next best thing you can do for the apps you want to disable/uninstall,but can't,is to force stop & revoke all permissions/notification options on the app.
Make sure you be careful disabling apps on the v20, from experience on the v10 one of the apps can cause the second screen to stop working and re enabling does not fix it you have to factory reset.
