Verizon LG G Pad 8.3 VK810 Lollipop OTA VK81035A - G Pad 8.3 General

It's here folks, Lollipop for Verizon's iteration of the LG G Pad 8.3, the VK810 (code name "Altev"). You can start downloading and installing via Settings - System Updates - Check for Updates. I don't have the time to update today, but please tell me how it comes out for you.
Modders, rooters, and ROMans (ROMers?) out there, I'd love to hear if you keep root with OTA Survival Mode or Chuck Norris mode enabled in your super user app (SuperSU, SuperUser, etc...) or if you can find the file ( @roirraW "edor" ehT you seem to be the king of KDZs for our device) to flash via TWRP.
Thumbs up if this post was helpful and don't forget to vote on that poll.

***Reserved for bug reports, issues, and fixes***
I will try to keep this up to date as they come in.

I used the kdz in normal mode and lost root.

I was waiting for someone else to make a centralized thread for issues, so I wouldn't have to maintain it. ?
Under 35A_08, I can't seem to expand notifications in the pulled down notification shade. You can expand them at least on an insecure lock screen (swipe) and it seems that what you expand there are then expanded in the notification shade too. I think this survives a reboot.

Already rooted without downgrading. Check my guide in general section.
In your poll, add the option. Already running , debloated, rooted and working on recovery.

Took the OTA. Lost root. Trying to decide whether I need to root again.......

There's an official lollipop update for 8.3 VZW? Missed that
Sent from my Nexus 6

Do I need a Verizon SIM in it to pull the OTA?
I've tried both the update button in settings and the "Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant" PC client.

Tmo SIM doesn't work, VZW does
Fortunately I had an active VZW SIM out of a Galaxy Tab 2.
It asked me to download with it in, and would not let me see it with a T-Mobile SIM. Kept saying I was up to date.
Put the VZW SIM back in and it let me get it. Downloading over WiFi now, just over 600 megs.
Sure they'll gladly send you the OTA with an active VZW SIM, probably hoping you'll use your data allotment to do it...
Typical VZW antics, which is why I'll never use Verizon. MAYBE if someone else paid for it, but I'd resist even then. Worst carrier IMHO except of course their coverage is great. I carry a PagePlus $10/120 days for emergencies, camping, etc.
But I digress...

I just noticed that " LG BACKUP" is no longer available on 5.0.2. Has anyone else seen this?

Previous releases for the VK810 had LG Backup? I'm not saying they didn't, just if they did I never noticed it. Was it (originally) in the same place it is on the G3 (Settings / Backup & Reset)? It is in fact not available there on 35A_08, but I know at some point I looked there on 24A and didn't see it either - unless I only checked after I had debloated it and I took it out by mistake or not knowing.
Was it definitely available on 24A? Curious because on the G3 once I tried it, I noticed it sure was fast and easy, and might not trump Titanium Backup for all purposes, but certainly for my most common uses.

It worked basically the same for me as the other LG devices I've seen (VS980 and V500), but with a different KDZ file of course.
1 - Download the VK810 35A KDZ file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60857185&postcount=2
2 - Follow this guide to use the LG Flash Tool 2014: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Note: To put your VK810 into download mode, power it off, then hold the volume down button while you plug it into your PC. A small rectangle will appear in the middle of the screen that says "Download Mode".
Worked like a charm for me. yesterday.

You may be right, it is that I use it on my G3s that I assumed it was on the VK810. I use it to transfer files and apps between devices, I remembered that I tried but failed to get Snapdragon Battery Guru to the VK810. Shame it does have it uses.

I thought it was a twrp flash. LG flash tool. Won't you lose root/recovery? I'd like to see a rooted twrp like they do in S5 vzw&art threads. Simple kernel swap..Voila
---------- Post added at 10:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:02 PM ----------
If nobody posts one soon then I will.

Definitely no LG Backup for the last 3-4 OTAs, but I haven't owned it long enough to speak for the entirety of the software history. I know that this device has been hamstrung by some of the carriers' antics by not including some basics that the flagship phones enjoy like a full feature Quick Remote, the absence of LG Backup (which just may be the best BU short of Titanium), and the exclusion of baked in goodies like Dual Window and adjustable Emersive Mode (hides the nav bar on a per-app basis). I know DW fix can be found, but not sure about the others yet.

Gotcha. Last I checked the SnapDragon Battery Guru wouldn't install from the Play Store on my G3's Lollipop, but I haven't checked lately and I don't recall if I tried just restoring it from Titanium Backup. I'll check again on the G3 and on this device in case it's changed (probably not), thanks for the reminder.

can someone post the update the sd slot on my phone stopped working after trying at least 3 microsd cards, i decided maybe if i flashed the older firmware it would start working again needless to say it didnt work and now my phone wont boot and everytime i try to flash a firmware i keep getting an error that says "sw rev check fail : {abort}fused 4 < binary 2" can someone help me out on this please
The good news is it is fixable, you just need the exact firmware you were using before (or newer.) It sets a version number in the bootloader and the firmware you downloaded has a lower version.
Unfortunately, I've been trying to find that same new firmware for 3 days now with no luck. (Keep reading though!) I'm trying to switch a tmo over to att, and since its going to be a work phone they insist it have the att firmware in 'official' mode - fortunately, they don't care what the paint on the back says.
If someone with that firmware posts the 'Firmware' page from Phone INFO ★Samsung★ I might be able to get it. (And if I do, I'll send it over - much more reliable than the official recovery method.)
You may have already lost everything on the phone, but I hope you were prepared for that. You might be able to fix the softbrick (resulting in it being 100% stock) with 'samsung smart switch' (win/mac) using 'emergency device recovery'. It will ask for your model number (SM-G935A) and serial # and then it will download and odin-flash the firmware for you.
I say 'might' because I tried that for the tmo phone last night and it eventually just crashed.
Forgive any weird disjointed text, it is early in the morning.. if some part of that didn't make sense let me know.

The firmware is available, but the source is questionable. As you discovered, ATT does not post their ROMs (just one more reason why they are THE Evil Empire).
Most are getting their files from a Persian site:
http://dl.pars-hamrah.com/ (switch to English)
And the G935A PI2 files are here:
http://dl.pars-hamrah.com/index.php...ATT4API2_USA ATT Android 6.0.1_4File Firmware
Premium fee is required for download and I have not looked into the cost. I have read that they are legit, but who knows...
Found it on clangsm.com as well, which is just as sketchy. I'll see what I can do, might have enough info with the filenames (and might not..)
Edit: Might just be too early in the morning (I'll try later tonight) but the info I need is definitely on that page from the phone info app. (I'm not doing anything magic, just trying a couple of apps.)
Alternately if someone wants to PM me an AT&T serial number (not the imei! always think REALLY hard about saying no if anyone asks for that!) I can see about listening in on the smart switch recovery.
It be great if you found it. Be nice to start from Sept firmware.

Missed this the first time through but you should be able to use Odin on the files posted above.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
Confirmed worked flawlessly with Odin3 v3.12
My steps for updating and saving data/config:
0) Unfreeze all system apps
1) FlashFire backup to external SD card, make sure to backup /data and /internal storage along with /system in case you need to roll back.
2) Boot to Download, use Odin 3.12 (the unmodified version) to flash the 4 OE FW files
3) Let the phone fully boot, go through the basic setup, go to settings, enable USB/ADB debug and unknown sources
4) Reboot into Download, flash Eng bootloader with the PrinceComsy Odin
5) After phone reboots and starts, run root
6) "Enable SuperSU during boot"
7) Install FlashFire, grant root
8) Flash fixes/debloat, let the phone boot, reboot for good measure (I find that the extra reboot contributes to success)
9) After reboot, flash Xposed, etc.
10) FlashFire restore backup
11) After the phone boots, refreeze system apps
12) Profit.
OMG!
I can't even begin to thank you for sharing these files. I thought I was going to be without a phone for a little while. You are clutch!
Did Sammobile stop carrying USA firmware? It looks like there is no good way to download and manually update the firmware on any USA Samsung devices now.
I was looking for this firmware and had no luck, so I went and check a few other devices I have and NONE of them are on Sammobile anymore... WTF is going on. why would they pull all of the USA firmware off their site and not provide any news release about it.

Easiest way to install is:
Restore TWRP Backup. Seems to work even on unlocked sprint.
Get the backup from HERE
Instructions on how to restore:
1. Download the rar, extract it to your PC.
2. Boot to recovery mode, take a backup of just the boot.
3. Mount USB Storage in TWRP, and connect to PC.
4. Navigate to TWRP - Backups - HT5xxx - 2016xxx
5. Delete the stuff
6. Copy the extracted stuff (ensure that the file format of your sd card is exfat)
7. Restore using TWRP
Its recommended to factory reset.
ROOT:
Easiest way to root is by using Magisk.
Instructions:
1. Install Magisk v9 by flashing the zip in TWRP. Reboot.
2. Install Magisk Manager.
3. Open Magisk Manager - Downloads - phh's SuperUser
4. Reboot to Recovery, flash phh's SuperUser zip
5. Reboot, and install phh's SuperUser from PlayStore.
You may use Magisk Manager to disable root for Pokemon, or Google Pay.

I just completed updating. It is 99% sense 8. The only difference I'm seeing is that the quick setting shade retains the same shade of grey.
Good news: navbar icons are aosp-like now, double tap to quick switch between apps work, multiwindow works and you can change the dpi in settings like in aosp nougat. Also, the default theme closely resembles the htc10's (same wallpaper?).

So in that case ,you don't have to go back to stock?
I'm rooted but S-On... does that affect the process?
Should I turn S-Off first?
( too many questions I know?... not noob tho...just new to HTC dev)
How do u change the DPI for muktiwindoe? I see no option in settings

Can anyone post some screenshots?
I reset my M9 to the latest RUU and there is a minor update before Nougat, here's the captured OTA URL: http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_HIMA_UL_M....35.617.21_release_486262q8itc31r2y2o2ht9.zip

S7 will be unresponsive for a few seconds randomly

So I rooted and flash my s7 back to stock. Since then and after doing a couple of full factory resets and with no SD card in the phone's "recent" and "back" buttons at the bottom will light up, screen stays blank during this, then the phone will not wake up for a few seconds. Even if I'm pressing the Home and power buttons. Happens randomly.
I've used Package disabler Pro to disable all bloat ware, but still didn't help. Really not sure what to try next.
Any thoughts?
thanks
When you flashed back to stock, did you flash all 4 files via Odin? You didn't use Home_CSC, did you?
I believe I did flash all 4. But would you have a link for flashing so I can preform it again just to be sure. I didn't use the Home file either.
thanks
What is your current build number?

You can also look into the U-firmware. The latest build works very well on Verizon, and it's VERY responsive. You miss out on all of the Verizon based features, but everything else is silky smooth.

Is this Marshmallow or Nougat? I can;t find much on it, or maybe I'm looking t the wrong threads. Any write ups on what is different? Is it rooted?
thanks

The one I linked is the exact same Marshmallow build you already have.
The U-firmware I mentioned is also Marshmallow. I did a short write-up with pros and cons in this forum a few days ago, along with a link to the firmware.
Finally, nothing that you flash with Odin on this phone will be rooted. The engineering (root) kernel can be flashed with Odin as part of the process to root the phone, but it won't flash a rooted system.

The link you provided, I just need to flash the 4 files, excluding the Home file...correct?
I'll read up on the u-firmware.

Download SmartSwitch from Samsung and install it on your PC.

New update out for devices

New update has dropped. Version P-MR2-RC001-RZR-190914.3123 and brings the phone up to September 5th for security updates.
I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

Compatibility hasn't been confirmed yet, but previous discussions with someone who had an AT&T version that was on a July update had issues with arter97's kernel on September's update. The kernel seemed to be incompatible as it failed to boot and also switched the phone back to the old slot afterwards.

This seems to be a differential update, as the boot.img is 1/4 of the normal size. I thought, I could patch it with magisk... [emoji53]

It seems to be the case as the images are rather small. I'm not sure what to do now that I'm on Havoc OS GSI. Is there a possible way to patch stuffs other than system (such as vendor)?
I'm yet to make a backup as the current app I use for backup (Migrate) doesn't appear to work properly on this phone (while it worked on my previous one, Xperia XZ Premium), and that Titanium Backup hasn't been updated to be compatible with new features (such as split apks) so some backups can no longer work properly after restoring.
I also need to know if there were any improvements regarding Bluetooth compatibility. Currently I cannot use my bluetooth headset on GSI (only phone calls work), even with a modded overlay (with values changed to undo Razer's crippling of certain features such as aptX).
EDIT: I guess it's not that easy as the payloads are most likely block-based OTAs. These updates do not tolerate any changes on the partitions unlike file-based OTAs that we used to have. We'll have to wait for full factory images to come out and make a list of what we really need to flash from stock updates...
Any issues with the update etc please lmk everyone!
Enjoy it!

Not exactly an issue, but can you tell us, when razer will push the factory-image for this new update? That would make things mich easier...

Wish I knew!
But I can say to them that people are wanting the factory images if no major issues are present I can't see why it wont be up there but that's me.
I tried updating but it gives me an error everytime.
(Using the Deodoxed version)
Can someone help me with this ?
So trying to game plan here. Logic tells me to flash boot, vendor, and system from factory image of current build. Then let the system update itself. Then flash arter kernel, then go into twrp and flash latest magisk zip to get root.
Is this update still Android 9 or is this taking us to android 10?

And this .zip file you linked.... Can we flash this in TWRP or is this the standard OTA that needs stock recovery?

This is the standard OTA that needs stock recovery & the update is still Android Pie/9
Also, for anyone that's curious, it doesn't seem to fix any of the speaker phone/call quality issues currently present in Android Pie/9 (but weren't present in Oreo). I can't speak to Wi-fi performance improvements, or other fixes mentioned in the update notice, but I am very thankful that Razer has released this OTA with security patches through September of 2019 ? ?. Thank you Razer!
Wifi
The WiFi is fixed for wifi calling I believe if you put this phone into airplane mode and trying wifi calls it would glitch the wifi out before now seems to work
I think I'll wait to install it until someone else who is more educated in this tests it and makes a guide for it to put stock back on and whatever we need to do to make Arter 97 kernel work with it.
Any fixes to the camera apk?

i reflashed the stock firmware and ran the update to get the latest security update. I also have arter97 r11 kernel installed and magisk and have it rooted with no problems. Google Pay works as well as I was able to get it to pass the CTC scan.
