[DEV/ASSISTANCE] Samsung GT-S7710 XCover 2 Attempting OMNIbased lollipop (5.1) port - Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 Questions & Answers

Right.
Seems the old Xcover 2 has lost out on the love front.
Im currently trying to pick up the peices laying around the s7710 threads and working with some verry helpful people from the Zombi project in getting a form of 5.1 built for the device.
This thread at point of posting is initially a call to arms for any XCover device owners who have any experience in compiling and porting (as well as error debugging experience) to make themselves known and possibly help me to pinpoint errors in builds im running.
If anyone has a bit of time and enthusiasm to breathe a little bit of life back into this devices world then pls do reply to this post or message me with any details and offers of support.
Im fairly green to the whole process but I am learning a lot its just taking a lot of time and when I hit issues often times there are not people with freetime to ask for guidance.
As progression is made i will be editing and updating this post with any builds that i get booting and functional on my own device for further testing from other people.
But pleas do by all means get involved if you think you can help
All the best
Regards
Mehmeh

Handroid; The android port to the Hermes

Handroid; Android on the Hermes.
Hi all!
Ok, first off i'd just like to say i'm not as new here as I may seem - i've been stalking round these parts for 2/3 months now. Please don't flame me for that.
My only other post was on the discussion on a possible android port to the Hermes.
I liked this idea greatly, and so I decided to start the 'Handroid' project.
The idea is simple, a full port of android to the hermes. Nothing more, nothing less.
The port will be based on the linux port to the hermes as it would be foolish to let that port rust a little more while we start a new one.
We've all seen videos of android running on other pocketpc's so it's evidently possible.
But this is where I have to ask for your help. To get this port underway quickly and efficiently we need a team. And a team means that people like yourselves that feel they could help us out in some way. Help. Or even anyone you know who might have the skills required.
Handroid now has it's own wiki up Here.(That address is only a temporary one on my blog's webspace, handroid.org will be registered soon. Also, please for goodness sake don't flame because its a Work In Progress site. It will be looking much better soon.) I would love to hear from some of you soon on the wiki, or here.
Any help or even just a few points of input (or even failing that, simply encouragement) would be greatfully recieved. However, make no mistake, if this project is to suceed we need your help. I can't do this on my own.
I really hope to speak to some of you on the team soon.
Sam
Ok we will on touch!!!
Ok men if we could find anything usefull maybe pmed you must works... nice wiki...
BTW how can you do it? i have an account there too and i dont know where to start hahaha
*flames lick feet... i think*
Ok, so I take that's the first of many flames? Or was it genuine. Some how I doubt. *sigh*
Welcome !!!!
Hi,
i appreciate this attempt of getting some attention to port some alternative OS to hermes platform. Indeed it could be done and it would be in the spirit of GPL like the openmoko people did for there mobile devices.
In fact we urgently need some brave kernel hackers to push this forward, because the base of all that android stuff is a nice working kernel.
Please have a look at this thread to get an idea of the work that has been put into this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273579
There's a lot of useful stuff
There are some barriers (arrrghh) and there are new devices drawing attention so the progress of linux port stucked a bit....
Anyway the winmob family is doing great work, so let's see how far we would come with this alternative!
Have fun,
scholbert
I am very interested and I hope I can be helpful (at least cheer leading). Though I don't know anything about the Hermes kernel, as a reverse engineer, I always hack my way out. I keep my eyes on your wiki.
Great!
Thanks for the anti-flames.... I think my feet didn't get burnt too much.
We ultimately need people with a specialism in linux driver/kernel development. However, as far as I can tell the kernel is pretty much functional, but I will check more closely later.
I'm also going to contact some developers of the other Android ports around and see if they have any advise.
Will report back soon,
Sam
Any new notice?
Anybody still working on this?

PLS STOP UNFINSHED ROMs ONCE AND FOR ALL

Agreed, lets stop devs until they do something actually.. Call me insane but SE roms although slow are stable in one way or the other, and dev roms are not, full with bugs, wlods, freezing, ?!?viruses?!?.. Developed on someone others idea !
And all that is done is unfinished.. Always something missing.. And every two to three days update.. After what we get pls stand by "work in progress"..
100 ROMs and everyone missing something.. NO COOPERATION AT ALL..
Finally in latest happenings they shown us why they can't cooperate..
After all ROMs I tried, SADLY, but I have to admit that I have returned to stock ROM !!
I had faith in you but seems that mine faith was futile..
Sorry guys.. I m dissapointed..
DO something SERIOUS or get a real job !!

Stop spouting rubbish. All work on here is a work in progress. its a community of official developers who develop nice things for us in their spare time.
so for you to come here and display not only a lack of basic understanding of how far we've actually come but also a massive amount of disrespect is actually quite upsetting, if you have read the forum you'd know that A, most of the roms here are BETA or ALPHA B, We have no boot-loader access so cant get a lot of things working
Im expecting your apology via pm so i can replace you embarrassing post with it

Personal reflexions about Samsung and this forum

Hi!
I came first at imate jam times (mean HTC Magician). Have enjoy here a lot and, figuratively, this XDA world has been my second home for more than six year.
Before, I have been at doom's 9 (a DVD decryption and edition forum). And even before in Peque's Worlds (a Spanish Secam and Nagra decryption forum).
I use to write Access VBA for my own since more than 20 years and remember the times when I connect to a BBS with a 28 kbs modem. So, nearly sure, I’m older than most of the people here.
In real life I'm lawyer and use my smartphone for work everyday.
My last device (HTC HD2 running WinMo) pass away last summer (to be franc it is at the 'doctor' to get a new screen) and when I ordered my SIII, I was really afraid of so many changes coming.
Finally, English is not my mother language. I have, mostly, learned to read and write it here.
All that introduction is my small presentation in this SIII forum (not my first post). A way to justify why I dare to open a new thread and, finally, a pray for a little condescendence with my personal and not natively writed opinion.
After three months here, going to the subject, I'm slowly learning to use this new toy. Still far from providing something evaluable, but beginning to understand this new ecosystem with the help of a handful of masters that are teaching here for nothing.
I’m grateful to all of them and to XDA forums in general, but on the other side I’m also feeling that particularly this SIII area is a little missed, being feed by Samsung without order nor proposal and a little clutered by no sense.
Do we really need so many leaks and roms for our devices? Do we really need to lose time asking each other if UK leak should be first or not? Or, as an advanced user’s community, shouldn't we better be asking Samsung firmly to solve all the problems we find and to push fixes to our devices without waiting new local otas or leaks.
In general we have a very good device. Hardware is incredible. Android is a wonderful open source project. And Touchwiz a very nice interface made by Samsung for us.
But touchwiz is also the reason why many people bought a Samsung phone and mandatory interface for a lot of functions, and definitively it has some glitches very difficult to understand.
Should we really be changing manually firmwares to get a colour to our likes?
Don’t we deserve a proper skining system, to decide the colour of our notification bar or to change the switches we has in it, with just a menu option?
Do we deserve a final fix for lags, the battery gripes lot of people has suffer without an explanation or the poor dialer we get?
Shouldn’t Samsung forget that way of feeding us and begin to work to solve immediately the problems we find and to send us and maintain daily updated a software that at least do right the few things it should do out of the box.
Come on Sammy, you have make wonderful things for this device (prediction in Keyboard is incredible, battery life is most of the time incredible, interactivity in touchwiz is very well constructed...) but you are also kidding us and being dumb to the voice of the people that at the end could tell you what the user need...
Don’t know if it will be for god or not, but for me threads asking for solutions, like the one claiming Exynos sources, are the ones who should be pinned and treads like “Increase your battery life up to 500% (All android phones)” or the one discussing which should be the leaks order, must be immediately closed and forget. Personally I feel that only this way XDA’s SIII forum will has the chance to do the things forums has made for advance and knowledge I other areas.
To conclude and focusing, shouldn’t we refuse to act like a laboratory mouse and drive to more constructive ways, with clear petitions to Sammy internal developers?
Thats all.
Please, forgive me if this sound a little stupid ....or should go to and specific threat

Apology to AT&T Galaxy Note 3 users

I know this thread will probably get shut down quick, so I'll keep it simple. Some of you may remember that I created a thread for a ROM entitled ENCOREROM and did not follow through with a release. I would like to apologize for that and explain a little. I have been an avid ROM flasher and seeker of knowledge in the field of Android development for some time now. When I set off to build a ROM for the Note 3, I was unaware of just how much time it would take. I was in high school, both regular and an extended hours performing arts school, and found myself with very little time to work on development. I have since moved on to college and am attempting to reach out and work more on my development skills. I have reached out to a fellow new dev that is attempting to do something that I attempted a while back, Android Wear for the original Galaxy Gear. I know I haven't always been the most reliable, but I try my best to share, learn, and teach where I can. I thank every member of XDA for this amazing site and hope that my past mistake will be forgiven. If you have any input on the Android Wear for Galaxy Gear, PM me and I will pass it along. If you have any information that may help in my learning, also PM me. Mods, if this is out of place, feel free to shut the thread down immediately. I no longer own a Galaxy Note 3 (currently on an LG G3). Happy New Year everyone, I wish you luck in all of your endeavors.
Thanks for the explanation...
Happy New Year!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (SM-T230/SM-T230NU) ROM Development (Help Needed)

Dear owners of the 2014 degas/wifi tablets, a team is forming to help make your old device run like new again. We unfortunately may not be able to guarantee an Android version upgrade but a performance upgrade instead. Now, as of the last year or so, there has been a group (Will not be named for reasons) claiming they have been creating ROMs for the device that are new editions of Android or similar to the newer versions. I’m here to say that they have been deceiving you the entire time. But this forthcoming team will not do so and will give the 4-year-old tab some love like it needed a long time ago.
Though, unfortunately, the team being assembled only has two members at the moment. We are in need of more experienced/inexperienced people to help develop this upcoming ROM/s. Though, if this isn’t your thing but you have a tab to help with testing, that would be an excellent help to us as well.
Some criteria for people applying is:
+ You own or have a SM-T230/NU tablet that you will have for the entirety of your assistance
+ You have your own PC to help develop (Or if testing, have a PC to flash the ROMs onto your device)
+ When developing, the latest version of Xubuntu (18.04, Bionic Beaver) is highly recommended to install in order to help us. (If you have any questions if your PC specs are good enough for development, please message me.)
+ You have a Discord or are willing to create one in order to communicate with us. (XDA doesn’t have voice chat and would be too slow for this kind of development)
We will be actually developing ROMs/mods for this tablet. Not taking others work and making slight adjustments and then claiming it to be ours! That is stealing and that is not what our group is about. If you have any questions about anything in this post, please comment below or message me.
I've tab for testing, but unfortunately that is where my skills end.
That’s alright!
Please message me privately so I can set you up with helping us further with this.
Moderator Edit:
All "discussions" must be kept on XDA and in public - collaboration happens here.. Or use our Discord Channel...
