I am an electrical engineer, with 9 years experience in the field of PCB layout, design, and programming.
I have information to share which is valuable to this community. I guess I will share it in a few days when its relevance has diminished.

You can guess my point though if you search the title of this thread. There is a youtube video which I will link in 6 posts which I find fascinating.
This smart watch has android, is inexpensive, has a pulse monitor, and "e-ink" screen. I wanted to know if it is any good. It has the same cpu as the SmartQ Z1 but is much thinner 9.5 mm.
Thoughts?

No SIM or WiFi, 320mAh battery. Android 4.2.
I'm sure it's a good piece for those that prefer notifies. I guess someone will have to buy it and test it.

Yeah no SIM sucks, or WiFi, no Compass, no GPS. But it does have Bluetooth 4.0/2.0 whatever that is... anyone know if that is a mistranslated 4.2?
That is a small battery true 320mAh but that possibly leads to the lighter weight, lower height of the watch which is 9.5mm thick.
It does have Android 4.3 actually, and it uses the same cpu as the SmartQ Z1 which is already ported. It only has 512 megs rom and 512 megs ram, which will be a problem for adding apps, that right there is almost enough to kill it.
The big thing it does have is.
Pulse Monitor
E-Ink Background, it switches between e-ink and TFT seamlessly, there is a youtube video that makes me want to buy this watch.
Run time is 7 days on paper, while displaying time 100% of the time using e-ink (very cool)
It has android so it can be upgraded at some point by the ppl in this forum!!!
If there is something similar / better out there for the same money let me know before I buy this one! I am leaning toward this one mainly because it is so thin, its actually thinner than the apple watch (10.5mm)

Still 5 posts to go
So, there is the Reedone X1 which is interesting but does not have the low power e-ink TFT thing going for it. I like the specs but dont like the 11mm thickness and lack of e-ink TFT.
Reedone website shows the Reedone X2 (there would be a link here, but you have to find it yourself because reasons!) The Reedone X2 is the same watch as the X2 Smartwatch from IQI, with same pictures and stats.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a smart watch then?

This looks the same as GearBest are selling as Atongm WO13 http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_166847.html and has the same display as he MiMi Mi-W3/Podoor PW305II http://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_139964.html
I looked at this a few weeks ago but could see no advantages over the Mi-W3 I already own plus the following disadvantages:
Not waterproof - the MiMi is IP67 rated.
Much larger in height.
Proprietary charging cradle - what is the point when it isn't waterproof and uses exposed electrodes? Just something else to lose or break.
Edited to add: The BT 4.0/2.0 is because it uses a dual module that connects with either 2.0 or 4.0 protocols dependent on the device it is connecting to.

I have been researching this over the past day.
It appears to be sold under 3 different brands
As Antogm W013 through gearbest,, geekbuying, lightinthebox, everbuying/dealsmachine, coolicool/efoxshop, Ebay and Aliexpress - but no stainless version
As IQI X2 on Aliexpress
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Newe...32324780280.html?spm=2114.32010308.4.2.tnhc0X
As Simptech X2 on Lightinthebox and Aliexpress -
http://www.lightinthebox.com/simpte...kers-waterproof-for-andriod-ios_p2863209.html
Cheapest I found was mobile version of aliexpress for $72 (simptech version)

I don't believe it is Android based, apart from the splash screen there is nothing in the videos or adverts to suggest that it is. As it uses an Ingenics XBurst CPU I would guess it uses a version of their MIPS compiled Linux.

Although on Pandawill and Geekbuying, it clearly states Android 4.3 as the OS. Also, didn't the smart Q run on the same JZ4775 chip and run Android? i'll check with all the china shops tommorow and see what they say about the OS.

LightInTheBox says Android too, I was just going on the videos and screenshots, neither of which look like any Android I've seen, but of course it could be heavily customised.

Read the reviews of the NO.1 G2. Doesn't sound like a good buy. I'd definitely wait to see what the S7ler or others reviews have to say about the Sun.

maybe they mean it's compatible with android, not running it as an os?

I saw a video of the No. 1 S2 and the screen goes to the edges and beyond. I saw lettering go past the screen, which looks glitchy. I was tempted because of how slick it looks but they didn't do any work on switching the square scene to a round screen.

I am torn between this one and the Reedone HG-X1.
ISI X2 :
72.08 - Lowest Price
TFT Screen, Heart Rate Monitor, Pedometer, etc...
Reedone HG-X1:
80.99 - Lowest Price (black plastic?) at
Same as ISI X2
+GPS
+Waterproof
+Built in USB Connector
- 1mm thicker at dial
They are very similar. I have not seen a video on the Reedone yet though.
Any thoughts on these? Do they actually run Android? Would android gear be portable to these?

Distinguishing between a genuine G1 and a fake one? (CECT G1)

Hi all,
Basically I would like to buy a second hand G1 seeing as the price has come down to a reasonable level recently. But I am very worried about being duped into buying a fake one, as the fake one - CECT G1, looks exactly like the real one even down to the box.
So let's say if I am buying from eBay, what should I look for to distinguish whether a particular G1 is real or fake?
Suggestions welcome.
Many thanks.

usually when you're buying from ebay you can trust a seller with good rep. if they say it's genuine, then 9.7 times out of 10 it is. Just make sure you ask if it's genuine and not the cect rip off one. If you some how get a fake and you have documentation that they verified it was real you can always dispute. I don't think there is any way to tell its fake if someone over ebay is really malicious and wants to sell you a fake as a real. you can't hold the device until you get it and they can tell you whatever you want. As for purchasing in person, I've never seen a fake G1 so who knows how close it is to the real deal. And as always, if the price is too good to be true, it usually is a fakey. just my 2 centavos.
Ive seen 1 CECT G1, it was a young gentleman in my tmobile store...
The first thing I noticed was the camera isnt under the shield inside the cover, its positioned right above it in the corner...
Also, NO SLIDING KEYBOARD.and the theme they use sucks...
Other than those obvious things...looked like a legit g1 until he showed me it couldnt slide....
I wonder if they are able to be rooted....and have roms put on them...I probably would buy one just to be able to Test roms with.
Oh wow, didn't know the fake one doesn't have a keyboard.
That would be a good tell-tale sign!

Oh well, sometimes the fake phones out of china are more advanced and developed..like those with the 2 sim card slots, Tv/FM radio, touch screen, (come with 2 batteries), GPS, WiFi, BT, full qwerty and also a slider, etc, etc...no clue what OS is on those though. But I wouldnt mind a bootleg G1 with dual Sim cards, dual Micro SDHC, a Digital tuner for HDTV, etc, etc if it could still use our Roms =) and had the slide out keyboard. Would probably have a more advanced processor too.
It is funny though that they would not add the full keyboard and just make it look like it. Seems like they went to more trouble than it was worth. They could have just Bootlegged the Magic or Sapphire and not worry about a keyboard at all.
Engadget did an article on this kirf phone. It isn't even running Android, so good luck putting ROMS on it.
Here is a link to a kirf phone that will supposedly have a genuine Android OS.
Here is the article talking about the fake G1 and fake Android OS
the fake android phones run an os called nucleus os which is basically a phone os for mtk processors that sells for $15,000 for unlimited licensing. cheap when you're making hundreds of thousands of handsets and putting the same os on all of them. the os is skinnable, and it's responsible for all your fake chinese ipod, iphone, android, and almost anything with a touchscreen coming from china.
One would ask, why fake android if android is open source? well, android is a fatty. while nucleus os might fit in a 32mb nand, you can't cram android (an usable one anyway) in anything less than 64mb nand. most of those phone's mtk processors come with built-in storage, and nucleus happens to fit in them, so the maker saves money by using less components (i've had a few of those phones, you open them, and there's hardly anything in those pcbs), really, those phones cost about 30 dollards to make (maybe less) and they sell them for 100-200, that's a profit right there.
---edit---
android /system requires at least 64 mb memory (and that's removing some apks), i forgot to mention you still need /boot, /data, and other folders, so anything less that 128mb nand wont do

+1000 points to you, sir.
lol look through the specs
http://g1-clone-phone-review.com/
In terms of the screen, the G1 has a better screen resolution while the CECT G1 has a higher color depth. It even has an FM radio, stereo bluetooth as a standard and more... maybe the G1 could learn a few things from this look a like.
You guys should look through this site...
http://www.china-mobile-phone.com/
Also, mods, I am not advertising nor endorse this site, in fact I encourage no one to purchase these kinds of phones. They are not certified and are potentially even dangerous. Please just look through it for your pleasure
I mean, seeing some of those phones even tempts me to buy them. They have Wi-Fi, bluetooth, FM radios, TV tuners, TV outs, actual cameras with optical zoom (Click on Zoomer lense on the side to see them, they are actually pretty cool looking.) However, if only it would be possible to put our own operating system on them. The current ones are well, very ugly and simple. Basically, the phones hardware has a lot of potential...
Also to add, my friend actually has one of these phones, it has a 3 inch touch screen, 3 MP camera, dual sim card, etc. It looked pretty cool, the screen was decent, resolution was bit low at 320x240, but that is because I have been spoiled by the screen on my G1. However, now everytime even if the phone is just dropped from a small height, it shuts off. So I guess you get what you pay for? They look cool without a doubt though... maybe for those people who are on a tight budget but still need a more than typical functioning device.
Some very interesting insight there Jubeh.
Do you work in this industry?
---
Funny you say that SolemnWishing, because one of the reasons I didn't go for a G1 in the first place was the resolution. It is way too low compared to my Diamond and Diamond2 >__<
Yup I too have heard that the fakes have no Keyboaard so I made sure I took pics of Mine with the keyboard out when I listed it - If you are looking and want a rooted one, check my sig but only til Monday evening...

Are you kidding me? That thickness for those specs is ridiculous. The extra thickness is in the KEYBOARD, if that's gone then it's not hard to put those features into the body. If you have to wire the keyboard in it suddenly gets much harder. 17.1mm and the large body is horrible. THE TOUCH PRO 2 has that thickness... AND it has a CURVED back in order to make it feel SMALLER in hand.
//Just trying to get my point across, no offense.
OP, the chances that you get scammed by a reputed seller is very little. I really don't think it is something to worry about so much. Also notice that the trackball on the CECT doesn't have the same texture as the original.
If there was a way to install APK's on this clone, I would absolutely buy one. I would use it to play around with and try to mod. I bought an ADP because I knew I would be too chicken **** to mod a $300 phone.

Well, the G1's resolution when scaled down to the size of the screen if very very average, and the color depth is just flat out disappointing. Look at the new Sidekick LX's with a screen with 850 x 480 pixel resolution, that just blows the G1 away. And one thing I have noticed about the screen on the G1, when looking at pictures, the colors just don't feel alive. They don't feel vivid or bright or saturated enough. I have a Sony Ericsson w580i, your basic slide phone, and the colors are way better looking on that.

It would be nice if you describe display quality - viewing angles, panel type (is it IPS) how it performs in sunlight. Is minimum brightness good for reading in dark conditions? Thanks!

Viewing angles are a subjective issue, personally when i pick up my mobile device and look into it, it's always straight in front of me, so that's all i want, but if you have a viewing angle of over 45 degrees like the Tab, all you get is people on the bus, train or plane looking sideways to see what you're looking at
I'm based in England at the moment, they don't have that much sunlight and even less direct sunlight
First impressions, it feels to plasticky, not like it's price suggests that it should, not as bad as an X10, but almost.

Like if you have had chance to use the ipad, maybe like how does it compare value wise? As I think how much it costs £599 is putting me off, but if it is worth it compared to other tablets then I would consider it more

Wouldn't know about call quality as it's only owned by an engineer that comes into our office, he doesn't have any problems as far as i've heard, but as with other threads here just don't expect it to fit into you jacket or trouser pocket, one it's to big and another it's to heavy to be comfortable.
You may have visited the dell streak forum, or heard of how fragile the dell streak lcd screen is? because of it's large size the body flexes but LCD's by their very nature cannot flex and they snap. Well just look at the size of the LCD on the Tab, and the body of the Tab is made of plastic and (not titanium as per streak) to save weight, this by it's very design will make it more suceptible to breakage, (the body will flex under pressure the LCD will not) = ££££££

Well the ipad and the Tab are two completely different entities, one is a bookreader trying to be a netbook pc, the others a smartphone with obesity problems. They shouldn't be compared IMO.

Similar to all owners i would think! why did samsung insist on utilising such a large bezel around the screen? therebye turning a 7' screen device into one more akin to a 10' without any benefits of a 10'?, and adding nothing to the looks of the device at the same time.

As in other posts! you will not carry this around on your pocket, unless you want to break it! You might try a large overcoat with a very wide collar, if the pockets big enough and you want to look like the FBI everywhere you go.

Thanks for trolling another thread entirely off the rails.
To the OP:
A few things that I'd like to see discussed. Firstly how does it feel to type on it ? I've seen in a few first-impression pieces that it feels good (like a galaxy S in landscape) but it'd be great to get the feelings of a regular user. Also, some shots of the keyboard in action would be nice.
Secondly, can you toss some 720p video on there and show us how it looks. It never looks the same in video as in person, but it'd give us an idea of how the screen does as far as contrast and colour vibrancy is concerned.
Finally, how does the device feel to you ? Does it feel to you like you could carry it in a pocket all day ? Does it meet your expectations for speed/ease of use ?
GL with the video, hope to see it soon!
It is maybe off topic, but ... here goes :
- What release of Android is running ? Same as the one on Galaxy S device ?
- Does this android release supports multiple Exchange sync accounts (like HTC Desire & Desire Z do) ?
- Does it have 2 SIM card slots ? (saw that somewhere, don't remember ... where). If so, is it one for voice plan, second one for data plan ?
- Does it come with a USB host port (or the hw to take care of it) ?
Thanks.
Does it play 1080p files (mkv & flash) or does i only output 1080p..?
I got my hands on this last week to try out for a good half hour, and i loved it. The size was great, and great to watch movies on.
Looking forward to it. Release in Norway is 21. okt )
could it be confirmed if the Tab is going to require Kies in the same way as the Galaxy phones, e.g. for firmware updates
i assume that there will be no difference between this and their phones, but as Kies is software that i truly dislike, i am living in hope that it does not.

Yes, it is confirmed by Samsung already. In their official site, it says in the "PC connectivity" section "KIES". Sorry. I know, I hate that application with a passion myself...
If you have time, it would probably interest many people if you'd manage to try some popular apps from the market and see how they act with the increased resolution. We all probably have out own top10 lists for software, but I think browsing appbrain for most popular and trying a few of them would give people some idea how far that compatibility is.
(I, personally, would love to see how WidgetLocker, Beautiful Widgets and Launcher Pro work on that, but unfortunately at least the first two ain't free.
But more generally, how do widgets work on that screen? What I've gathered from the pictures is that the Tab has a FIVE column display (instead of the traditional 4) on the homescreen. How do widgets work with that? does a 4x4 widget scale to full size, or does it live a "column" free. Also, how many rows does the screen have?
EDIT: oookay, I don't know why these two posts became separate, this was supposed to be an edit to that earlier...
Actually thats a good idea.
I even forget that widget locket etc are even apps these days! But yes that'd be good to see if they scale up or still work properly on the big screen.
I imagine beutiful widget and switchpro you could make them bigger with launcherpro+ if they won't scale up by themselves, same with any other widgets, but it'd be good if they did it for free! However I think the 'grid' on the Tab is bigger anyway, so 4x2 widget would cover more space, but then it appears to have more rows too, so they might still appear small
Anyways, if you have any paid for apps on your main smartphone, you should be able to put the same market account on the Tab and download them again, so that's one way around paying twice just to demo them.
A few things I'd like to see:
- Spotify in action if possible.
- Proper comics and hos they scale to the screen and if it's easy or hard to read them (The Walking Dead for example.)
- A bit more on reading eBooks in different lights.
- In-depth look at the calendar and how flexible it is.
- If possible, how the accessories (like the keyboard) work.
- How it handles different resolutions of video.
Thank you for accepting suggestions!

smart watch for $100

I read lot's of good info under this post, but I would like to ask what would be the best move to buy for $100?
I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, so it will be so easy to check my wrist instead of pulling that monster out of my packet every time. Also I am looking something "classy" looking watch face , please help me out. Will be a good choice the Smart Q Z?
SmartQ Z isn't really what I'd call a classy design. Are you looking for something with calling features? Or just a watch that can give you notifications? If you're looking for calling features, I'd probably go with a LX36 Galaxy Gear 2 clone (dhgate.com). It's a dumbwatch, meaning it runs a j2me system, not full Android, but, it has notifications and calling. If you're looking for notifications and mini-apps, I'd pick up a Sony Smartwatch 2 off of ebay. They're going for right around $100 these days and has a classier design. Other than that, there's not much on the market for $100.

Check out the elegance u8 thread
What I am looking for ,something has a design look , clear screen, has a built in camera (works itself not as remote) & I can use for saving pdf or notes for test in the class.. Large enough screen to see it, not necessary a standalone device, answer phone call would be a plus ,but I am not expecting a lot about that considering to the noise reduction , etc.. Would be nice with an app for running , or hearth reading
Other than that , I don't really care...

So...basically you want a watch that has everything. Kingelon K2, which is a Galaxy Gear 1 clone, is the only one that's going to fit your price range. Doesn't have the heart rate monitor, but, it has the camera and can save pdf/notes. It runs full Android. It can be found at dhgate.com as well.
Yes , that Star Kingelon K2 really looks nice, but I couldn't find on Ebay, I know Vifocal.com was selling under $90, but they are out of stock. Also I was reading about it , and they saying the battery holds for only 6h??
What about ZGPAX S5 or S6?

K2 can be found on dhgate.com from numerous sellers. ZGPAX S5 and S6 aren't what I would call a classy design and are both standalone phones with no sync software from the company itself. They also both run an outdated Android 4.04 operating system out of the box.

The more functionality a watch has = less battery life. And vice versa so you have to make a choice which you prefer.
The WeLoop gives 2-3weeks but with basic functions and the opposite side you have the Gear S.

So why is the Star Kingelon K2 is better than the original Samsung gear watch is cheaper now ? K2 around $100 SG is around $90-100.
Is the K2 knows more things?

Samsung Gear 1 is supposed to only work with Samsung phones. There are some mods to get it working on non-Samsung phones, but, notifications are screwy without additional notification software like Tablet Talk. Not to mention, the Gear 1 received an update which converted the watch over to Tizen rather than Android. Tizen has a long way to go in terms of functionality and apps compared to Android.
It seems it would be a lot less hassle to just get a watch that would be supported on your non-Samsung device out of box and one that runs Android by default. That's the K2.
Thank you for all of you , I just need to find one now for a better price? 1 more question, is the K2 has an option to read pdf ?

I don't think you're going to find a better price. You're asking a lot for such a small price. The K2 runs full Android so yes, it can read PDFs. You may have to download an app to read them if support isn't there out of box. But, yeah, it'll do a PDF.
Thank You again. The cheapest I found is $110.87 free shipping.

If I were you I would buy the Galaxy Gear... Keep it on android and install the SWApp Link app on your Phone and Smartwatch, instead of using Samsung's notification system and problem solved. Galaxy Gear looks great, superb OLED screen, and fast GPU and Processor, its basically an underclocked Galaxy S2

The version I test here is only for Android. MIMI are saying they are working on a version for iPhone, but they can't say when it is ready. They are aiming for December. The cost is right now unknown, but I believe it will be around the same as this version.

Sorry I missed it but what is the cost of this current version?
On the IP67 test. The International Electrotechnical Commission requirements are 30min/1m. The IEC is the organization that makes the standards for the test/rating, so if it does not meet 30min/1m static immersion test then it can't technically be IP67. Just a heads up.
Thanks for reviewing it.

okay thanks for the info, but here http://aceeca.com/handhelds/ip67 it says
6 Totally protected against dust
7 Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m
And if that's the case, it does fill the requirements. As it is water & dust-proof. Can be soaked more than 3 hours in 50cm deep water according to MIMI.

Max 3 days it seems.
looks nice, but also rather huge
and very disappointing to see the exact same crappy companion app
that came with the u8 and all those other clones
i assume you have to have either phone or media audio connected for the watch to work at all?

IEC 60529 (doesn't get any more official than this)
The link you posted is technically incorrect as the lowest point has to be at a depth of 1m. If the object is more than 850cm (can't remember exactly but it's in the pdf) tall then it requires 15cm from the top of the device to the surface of the water.

Hello,
I just bought this smartwatch and waiting for delivery. Do you know if there will be more clockfaces ?
Btw, 3 days battery sounds good enough for me.

I have this watch almost two weeks now, very nice watch and the design look quality. The things that i notice is that, connection sometime disconnect and you need to connect it by your smartphone not like other models that the watch it self searching for the phone. Heartrate seems accurate. The liveview cam is laggy and not full screen. I hope they implement auto face detection most pics taken is blurry. Qwerty keyboard not a default handwriting is awful very slow. Sometime the watch is autorestarting so you need to pair it again thru you smarphone and open the apps. I hope they could update thebfirmware soon.

Also how to change alert tones, when entering engineering mode theres a lot of tones to choose but cannot change or use it.

Battery is ok for a couple of days, BT connection is stable for me, but also depends on what phone you use and how strong the BT is on the phone. No idea about Lollipop, but I think it would work.
I have a OnePlus One, I owned rwatch m26, the app worked well with kitkat while with lollipop I had to use an alternative apk, SmartWear. Since you bought it there were updates? I found a blog that talks about a new firmware with the voice command, but the site mimi-hk says nothing. However, I think I'll buy, the transreflective display, the ability to watch the time or answer the call with the shake and ip67 are rare on this type of device. On Lightinthebox it's 89 euros + 13 for shipping, I think it's a good price. Thanks for your suggest

The new Lemfo Lem X

Check this new Android Smartwatch from Lemfo go AliExpress Lemfo store or google it for Lemfo Lem X just I will give some of the specifications; design like the Lem 7 but removable straps, 2.03 inches full around Amoled display, the SoC mtk6739 with power VR GPU, 1/16 Gb, Bluetooth 4.2 , 4G capability , better camera and Android 7.1, but not Bluetooth calling feature, to bad.
It’s in presell right now .
Bigger is better
Once again, AliExpress is a bit sloppy with the details.
From the "Item Specifics": battery 450mAh, camera 5MP
From the "Product Description": battery 900 mAh, camera 8MP.
Which is correct?
900Mah and the price went down
The watch looks promising but I do not trust the render pictures. On official pictures the Lem7 is almost bezelless but in reality there is a big bezel. If the watch has also such a bezel and a 2inch screen it will be huge...
If it’s like that I will cancel the order, I don’t think that they will do like that because the Lem 7 has a lot feedback about it, will see
I bought one on pre sale. Specs are really good! Can’t wait!! Game changer compared to other watches!
Replaceable straps, nice resolution, big screen, nice cpu. Like it!

Ip67 waterproof,900Mah battery capacity , but maybe if you notices its going to have the flat tire, but small, because is the resolution is 640 x 590 just 48 for full around i believe so????
https://www.omnicalculator.com/othe...ght_res:640,width_res:590,diag_size:2.03!inch
428.8ppi density
one more other things no buttons so i am wandering , beside the red one on the left side, maybe power on/off
Think the button is a “home button” have to wait for a review on youtube for real life experience. All we got now is the rendered images from alieexpress(photoshopped)
But it’s only 140 euro. So worth a gamble
Didn’t get the flat tire remark, but you are right, comes due to the resolution. Hopefully there are some nice dials, so it won’t be that obvious.

Why do they never implement NFC payments?!
Such great specs, but for lack of NFC. I know QR code payments are the most common in China, but why not add this feature and broaden the appeal of the watch?
I'm not familiar with these smartwatches - from the description it appears that you can install apps from the Play store... is this correct?

This companies, not being racist or anything, they think of the market margins....2 billion people/customers in China vs, what, about 700 million in Europe. That's how Huawei started and that's why they toped Samsung on sales.
There are more people that can afford a £100 watch then a £300 one.
It won't cost more to add NFC and Bluetooth calling but it takes time to implement the software feature and to sort the bugs, as all the developers on this site will know.
This componies there are about quantity and new models as soon as possible.
What they do is watch the big companies watch/phone tech leaks and they will try to implement them first. 1 penny plus 1 penny makes 8.7 trillion $.
